Speaker 6 (06:06):
The heart wants what it wants and wantszza.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
You know what funny, Alex is.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
During the last break, we were talking off the air
and we're like, they always say, don't read the comments.
I always read the comments. I love the like I
always read them too, And I'm like, yeah, but I
don't like reading your comments because yours is like a cesspool.
That's true because I've been tagged in a few of
Monty's posts and it's either thirsty dudes or racism.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
There is no between, there's no in between. It's true.
It's true.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
Hey, balance, balance, balance, You can't have one with that
the other can all be good.
Speaker 7 (06:44):
You know she had a New Balance shoe in your
hand right now. It's such a good promo. Racism in
thirst You need New Balance, not a sponsor.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
You gotta have.
Speaker 6 (06:52):
Both, gotta have both balance well.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
Speaking of New Balance, Oh, Alex is good at this man.
I love he is so good. I know, I think
you saw the topic. You're like, let me throw this
lob up. I might have a rundown because we're gonna
slam downk right now. The face of New Balance sneakers
Jamal Murray.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Oh, I don't even know he was on New Balance.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
No, that would be one no.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yes, no.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Kawhi Leonard is back in the news again because Pablo
Tori is on a one man mission to tear down
Kawhi and the Clippers. Most recently, on an episode that
dropped last night, uncovered some emails between Clippers Marketing and Daktronics. Okay, Allegedly,
(07:48):
Daktronics and Kawhi had a deal in place that would
pay some money. And what's interesting is that Kawhi, to
our knowledge, never promoted dak Tronks in any kind of way,
never did an audit signing, was never featured at any
press release or anything. So they had a deal, but
similar to the Aspiration deal, Kawhi didn't have to do
(08:08):
anything to get the money. And some of the emails
read as follows from the Clippers. We wanted to check
in to see if your team has already met with
the player and his rep or if you need a
meeting on the books. We look forward to beginning the activations.
If you have any questions about anything, please don't have
needs to reach out. Followed a few weeks later, saying
wanted to check in to see if you've been able
to connect with Uncle Dennis. Now they're using names and
(08:31):
kl to secure a date. Then finally Daktronics responds back,
I'll follow up and get back to you. Thanks for
the reminder, Go Clippers. The reason why this is interesting
because it seems innocuous, is that Steve Balmer has gone
on record a couple of times and said we have
never served as a middleman between Kawhi Leonard and any
(08:54):
sponsorship deal. Now at the time, he was, of course
talking about the Aspiration deal. In this case, it's very
clear because it says the emails are from a Clippers representative,
that the Clippers were involved in this particular deal. So
I ask you, given that now Pablo Torri has uncovered
(09:17):
at least three different side deals involving Kawhi Leonard and
somebody somehow tied to the Clippers organization as a means
to circumvent the salary cap, why on earth have we
not seen any punishment hung down and will we ever
see one come down?
Speaker 5 (09:37):
Well, the simple answer is that Adam Silver has no spine.
Speaker 6 (09:40):
That's the simple answer.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
But these emails, don't They kind of contradict the idea
that he was not going to do anything for the endorsement.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
It could.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
It seem like they try, They're.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
Trying to and multiple emails trying to get it going.
So I feel like that contradicts the original stuff that
Pablo Torri was trying to say with aspiration. So in
this particular one, it seems like they were trying to
figure out when he could go and do what picture
Who knows?
Speaker 6 (10:10):
Who knows what I'm saying?
Speaker 5 (10:11):
Uh, I don't know why it's taking so long because
at this point, again, if you feel like you have
the smoking gun, why not just punish Kawhi Leonard whatever
it is?
Speaker 6 (10:20):
Half a season some people say a whole year. I don't.
I don't know, but the stay in this.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
Limbo instead of I think people looking at the situation
and getting more mad at the Clippers or KWHI how
is how are we just not getting mad at the
NBA and Adam Silver? Like earlier in the show we
talked about the Tians and you're like, you know, is
it because nobody cares about the Titans?
Speaker 6 (10:41):
Who cares about the Clippers? You do exactly?
Speaker 5 (10:44):
So aside from me and seven other people including Ben
Maller who cares.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
About the Clipper.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
Shout to Ben Maller, Shout to my family, Shout to
Grace Aside for those people who are Clipper fans, nobody
cares about this.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Do you care?
Speaker 6 (11:00):
Honestly, do you care?
Speaker 7 (11:01):
No?
Speaker 6 (11:02):
Okay, So instead of pretending to care.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
About this organization that has been a laughing stock, especially
next to the Lakers, for their entire their entire lives,
just make a decision, Adam Silver, find Steve Balmer because
you're not you're not gonna remove him as a quote,
as an owner.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
Just find him whatever billions of dollars you want to
find him.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Tell Kawhi Leonard he has to miss I don't know,
fifty games this season and then he can be on
his merry way to Toronto because the Raptors are gonna
be like, wonderful, so he can play the later half
of the season great, so he'll be healthy for the postseason.
Speaker 6 (11:35):
Wonderful. We'll take him. Toronto wants him, he wants to
go to.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
Torontoes, like I don't.
Speaker 5 (11:41):
I again, just punish him, and I wonder if that's it,
because they're like, well, if we punish him half a
season that benefits Toronto. Do we want to do that,
but it's like, no, either do it now or don't
do it at all and say we did not find
sufficient evidence to prove that this actually happened. I've not
seen a smoking gun. I have seen okay and th sysme, okay.
Speaker 6 (12:04):
If it's that obvious, give me the smoking gun. But
you don't say to me, this is like the.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
Miss the missing X when it comes to how humans
came around, there's a missing there's a miss a missing
link here that I to me, we are connecting a
B and C two D or a B T D
and we're missing C.
Speaker 6 (12:20):
Like but we're trying to connect it. That you get
what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (12:23):
Like, Okay, it's it's there, But I don't see it
as clear and black and white as Pablo Torri wants
it to be. I don't know what Kawhi Leonard did.
I don't know if Uncle Tennis, uncle Dennis pisted him off.
Speaker 6 (12:35):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
Reddit has a thread that I came across and I
was like, oh, that's interesting conspiracy theory.
Speaker 6 (12:40):
I like it.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Red It has a thread remember that trainer for the
Clippers that tried to sue the Clippers saying that he
they were doing weird things with Kawhii and like his
injuries and remember all of that, and he tried, they tried.
Speaker 6 (12:57):
That guy tried to sue the Clippers.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Yes, because termination.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
Right, there's a Reddit threat that thinks that that guy
is the.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
One feeding this information.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
Oh, because in all of the stuff that Pablo Torri
has uncovered.
Speaker 6 (13:13):
He always leaves that out.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
Why would you leave that out when it would make
Kawhi look bad. You're trying to pile on Kawai, that's
what you're trying to do. But you definitely never mention
that guy. That's there's something weird here. It seems like
it's very targeted. And I'm not saying that Kawhi is innocent.
Speaker 6 (13:31):
I'm just over it and just punish him.
Speaker 5 (13:34):
And I don't think Steve Bomber is gonna get a
mega punishment because let's be real, I think all the
owners are like, we kind of do stuff.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
Like this, and they're afraid of him, and they're.
Speaker 6 (13:43):
Afraid, Well, he's a billionaire, and also like in.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
A sea full of billionaires, he is the megaladon he.
Speaker 5 (13:48):
Is, And also he is everything you would want in
an owner. He is a fan he is out there
cheering on your team.
Speaker 6 (13:55):
So it's like, this is bad.
Speaker 5 (13:56):
It's a bad look for a billionaire, but it's everything
you'd want in an owner. He came and changed everything
for a poverty organization, right, So it's a hard position.
But at this point, if there's if you're not gonna
do anything, just say you're not gonna do anything, and everybody,
I promise you, everyone will forget about it because nobody
cares about the Clippers.
Speaker 6 (14:15):
Nobody cares. Nobody cares, and Kawhi will be on his
merry way to Toronto.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
Well to your point, I think when the Lakers the
ownership deal came down, one of the things that d
from Salon was these new hedge fund guys, most of them,
this is not a big deal to them, right, This
is a business transaction. I'm not in it because I
want to win an NBA championship, because I care about
the city I'm providing for, because I even care about
the team on the court. What I care about is
(14:41):
this asset is going to continue to appreciate. So that's
why there's so many teams that don't go into luxury tax,
that refuse to pay big contracts. I think it famously,
the Denver Nuggets have never paid or I think maybe
paid two hundred thousand dollars total in twenty five years
towards the luxury tax. Well, this year's obviously different because
they're kind of screwed. But like, there are a lot
(15:02):
of owners who are like that, like they kind of
want to win, but not at the expense of money.
Speaker 6 (15:06):
It's not at the top of right exactly.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
And Steve Baumer, to his credit, seems like that he
wants to win so badly for the Clippers that he's
willing to do things that are illegal. And to your
original point about there is no smoking gun, the difference
is is that only in a criminal case do you
have to have beyond a reasonable doubt. In a civil
case or in something like this, you could have enough
(15:31):
circumstantial evidence that would still get them in trouble. The problem, though,
to your other original point about Adam Silver, is if
the two parties don't agree on the findings or any
proposed settlement that involves punishing the team, then they don't
have to go forward with the punishment, like Steve Balmer
(15:54):
has to be like, Okay, you found X, Y and Z,
your punishment is five million dollars voiding a contract to Noah.
I don't agree with that.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Okay, I guess we'll just push this off again.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
Yeah, so it's like Adam Silver number one.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
I agree with you.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
I don't think I don't I think he has no spine.
I think that he gets pushed over in every negotiation.
He's worried about all the wrong things, and when it
comes time to really put his foot downs on things,
the only time that he has done it is when
it's an easy layup of a decision. The Donald Sterling
banning him for life seemed controversial at the time, but
(16:30):
then you're like, well, no, the players were gonna skip
plaoff games. We cannot have that. And none of the
other owners like Donald Sterling, so there was no pushback
whatsoever except for I think Mark Cuban was the only one.
We said that, well, this is a slippery slope. John
tay Porter banning him for life, no problem, because nobody
even knows who John tay Porter is right right, But
anything else, well, I got to talk to the players union,
(16:54):
you know, we'll see what Steve thinks about this decision.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
And so I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
I don't think anything's really to come of this, and
if nothing does come of it, then if I'm the Lakers,
if I'm the Knicks, if I'm the Bulls or any
other team, I am actively looking to circumvent the salary
cap moving forward.
Speaker 5 (17:13):
You don't think they already are even more than I am,
even more than you already have.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
Yes, Like if this is what's gonna come of it,
where it's gonna be delayed and delayed and delayed to
a point where you can have a trade go down,
it get paused. They have a schedule put out and
we have no timeline for when the resolution is gonna come,
then what's to stop me from doing that? Like the
punishment doesn't fit the crime. I guess you know what
I mean? Like why would I stop?
Speaker 5 (17:37):
And one of the things you mentioned, it's like void
the trade? Okay, so what we void the trade? Now
what happens the trade has expired? That whole that whole
part of sending shake Gilgris Alexander signing.
Speaker 6 (17:50):
Whatever, all it's done. Yeah, so that can't you can't.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
Touch that it's over or even this trade with brandon
Ingram even it.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
Would be this one, but you would be punishing him
for what happened before.
Speaker 6 (18:00):
So it's just I don't I don't.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
I don't know what you can do, to be honest
with you, but I'm at this point it just is
kind of like, what is the hold up either way
at this Just do make a decision so everyone can
move on, because, as he also pointed out the release,
they released the schedule for the rest of the NBA season,
and one of the things I read was, oh, this
is the day Kawai will return to play the Clippers.
Speaker 6 (18:21):
Well, listen, he's still a Clipper.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
He never left. He never left.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
So I don't understand, Like what at this.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
Point, Adam Silver, You're becoming worse than Rob Manfred and
that is saying something.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Wow, you know who else's back?
Speaker 2 (18:34):
They never left? Ty Shirts.
Speaker 4 (18:36):

is not the right business.
Speaker 4 (18:59):

Speaker 2 (19:04):
It does go. I sent up for my Latino brothers.
Speaker 6 (19:07):
And sisters, right, that's right.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
Alex is darker than you.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
I'm pretty dark right now.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Is he?
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (19:13):

Alice in Pittsburgh are the last caller here on The
Odd Couple Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 8 (34:12):
Hi guys, Hi, thanks for taking my call. I usually
call and talk to Rob. I see that Rob is
off for a while, but I drive home from work
in the evening. I'm a nurse and I just wanted
to tell Monty that you're one of the two women
that I like in sports. Actually right now, you and
(34:32):
Mina Kines were the only ones.
Speaker 6 (34:33):
All right, that's sweet, Thank you.
Speaker 8 (34:37):
Monty's still there.
Speaker 6 (34:39):
I'm here, No, thank.
Speaker 8 (34:39):
You, You're welcome tonight. I'm a Steeler fan Steeler Notre Dame,
and I usually call and I talk to the guys
about eight or something related to football.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
I know you're on to.
Speaker 8 (34:52):
The NBA lately. But I went to training camp last
week and I watched the game last night and the Steelers.
I don't know if you followed the steel at all,
but with Mike McCarthy now having an offensive line, the
coach makes a big difference, and I think that our
quarterbacks are good. The young quarterbacks were really good. It's
some of the young players. So I as much as
people thought that the Steelers would be a dumpster fire
(35:15):
this year, I think that actually I have a little
bit more positive feelings about them now. So I don't
know if you've moved on to football yet, you're probably
stilling the NBA. I heard.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
No, we just did a whole divisional preview and Monty
does not believe in your Pittsburgh Steelers, Alice.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
Shame on her.
Speaker 6 (35:31):
I did, first of all, neither do you.
Speaker 5 (35:35):
Second of all, I do think that division is going
to be as always a tough division within itself.
Speaker 6 (35:42):
Yes it's not like it used to be where it's
the toughest.
Speaker 5 (35:44):
Division, but within themselves it's gonna be tough, and the
Steelers should should be competitive. They absolutely should be competitive.
I don't know how competitive. I don't know if they're
gonna win eleven games.
Speaker 6 (35:56):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
Alice, thank you for being the last college. Yes, I
thank you for being a nurse.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Shout out to all the nurses out there. Yeah for
real though, for real, Thanks Robgi, thank you for doing this.
Speaker 6 (36:07):

Speaker 4 (36:08):
We should totally do it again.
Speaker 5 (36:09):
Yeah, we should send Robin Kelvin to Atlanta again.
Speaker 4 (36:15):
I don't think what Kelvin's wife would let him go
back to Atlanta.
Speaker 6 (36:17):
She can go too with the girls. They can all
visit Magic City Monday.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
And if you don't listen to the couple tomorrow, this
is for you.
Speaker 4 (36:25):
Oh,
