out of the game. We don't know how serious his

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Coming up in about 28 minutes, it's the college kids.
They're back.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Mark Gunnels, he will be joining us and also Last Call.
They were fun last year, the college kids.
Speaker 5 (01:20):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Shout out to Mark. Didn't we see him in Atlanta? No,
he didn't make it this year. He didn't make it
this year. Yeah, this year he didn't make it. But, yeah,
so there we go. And nothing, nothing. No score.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Listen, the first weeks or two, everybody's preseason. Oh, people
will be scoring. You think everybody's going to be not scoring? No,
some games are going to be a little off the first,
at least first half. You know, you've got to get
in sync.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Jittery.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
This is the first game of the season, too, on
a Wednesday. They're out here jittery, nervous. Plus the Seahawks
defense is, if it's anything like last year, it's insane.
So I think this will end up being a close
one at the end, but I don't think it's going
to be high scoring.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Good thing you got your quarterback you think is so great.
How's he doing so far? I didn't check the stats yet.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Rob G., can you check the stats? Look, man, probably
70 yards. I'm just saying, Drake May.
Speaker 6 (02:08):
You're worried about the wrong stuff, Rob. You know that
Drake May built up his reputation. You mentioned it off
playing the soft schedule and the terrible quarterbacks. And who
does he get now opening night against Super Bowl champs
but another than Drew Locke?
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Exactly. That's what happened last year.
Speaker 6 (02:21):
So maybe he's going to be better again this year, Rob.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
The only thing is they're going to lose this game,
and then they'll be losing, start losing to those easy
quarterbacks they got last year.
Speaker 6 (02:29):
Drake made four or five 32 yards.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
He sucks. He sucks.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
Oh, that's funny. Nothing, nothing this one. If nothing else,
I'm consistent. You know, a good bread muffin in the
morning gets you going, Alex.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
You know what else you're consistent about? Tearing the rest
of us up. These daggone scrimps.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
What? Can you at least eat them at one setting? No,
I'm done. I'm done. What I'm saying is you double back.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
You started at 8 o'clock on the East, and then
you started this hour with them.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Now I'm in here, scrimped up, fished up smelling. Crustaceans.
Speaker 5 (03:04):
What?
Speaker 2 (03:04):
It's just shrimp. It's not like it stinks. Does it stink? Yes. Really? Yes,
I literally thought you had, like I said, tilapia or something.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
But I had to buy, the only thing is, it
was on sale, but I had to buy like a
big 30-pack so I didn't eat that many shrimp.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Otherwise, they go bad. Well, did they go bad?
Speaker 4 (03:22):
No.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Because you know you don't mind eating. Bad meats. No, no, no, no, no.
They were all good.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
When you took the daggone deli sandwich across states on
several time zones.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
I wasn't paying $ 16 a thing for it. The reduced
meats was crazy.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
It's all right.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
You were like, yo, I got this sandwich for $ 2
because it was due today. It was the last day
you eat it, and I've traveled all the way from
New Orleans.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
That's just the last day you could sell it in
the stores, not the last day you could eat it.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Remember, there's a big difference between the two. That's true,
and they're trying to change the labels to make sure
that people get that. The best part about it was,
Rob G., he thought I left the room. Oh, my God,
my stomach hurts so bad.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
But a lot of people don't even realize that if
you go out and buy bacon that's expiring in a
couple days, you put it in the freezer, Rob G.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
you know that. We do that. Because you get two,
four sometimes. There's nothing wrong with it, yes. Oh, we
do that big time at the house. I'll buy three
of them.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
You eat that one, and in the freezer, once you
open it up, it's good for a couple days to
eat it.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
It doesn't go bad, like, immediately. We do that a lot. Right?
It's just smart. Just listen to me next time.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Don't get old deli meat traveling across time zones from
New Orleans to L.A.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Well, the only thing is this year, Rob G., where's
the restaurant that we went to?
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Fixin's? We went to Fixin's the last time the Super
Bowl was here. It was really good. Shout out to
Kevin Johnson. Yeah, really good. That's like one of the
best restaurants there.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
I mean, I love Fixin'. I've been here a gazillion times,
but we got to do something else.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
We got to do something else. No, no, but that's
one night. I'm just saying one of those days. One
night only. For lunch or whatever. Oh, Fixin's good. The
catfish there. In the greens. I'm about to have you
talking about Alexante, Alex.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
All right.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Hey, Rob G., some wishful thinking executives. What they didn't say.
We're talking about Joe Burrow.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
Yeah, well, quick, before we get to that, all eyes
still on Sam Darnold. They're calling it a hip injury.
We'll see if he comes back in this game. But
it's not looking great if you're a Seahawks fan right now.
All right, big story coming into tonight's game. Not involving
these teams. Everybody's doing these anonymous execs, anonymous scouts, anonymous coaches.
What's your pick for this season? Who's going to win
(05:28):
the MVP, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year,
so on and so forth? We mentioned at hour one,
they said, who's the best young quarterback? They said Drake
May over Kayla Williams. ESPN asked a bunch of executives
the same kind of question. Like, hey, who do you
think is going to win the MVP award? And the
guy they settled on was none other than Bengals quarterback
Joe Burrow. Interesting thing, though, is the anonymous exec who
(05:52):
did pick Burrow and the anonymous exec who did not
pick Burrow both mentioned the same thing. They said, hey,
all going to come down to health. If he's healthy, absolutely.
If he's not, which he hasn't in most of his career,
no way, no how.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
I just can't. I think Joe Burrow is a fantastic quarterback.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
I just can't see how he's going to win an
MVP with that team until they improve. Like, the numbers
aren't there for guys who don't... Like, Stafford won the
MVP without winning the division, right? It doesn't happen.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Rob G.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
you had the numbers. You don't know how infrequently it happens.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
I mean, it's almost... It was an anomaly, and Stafford
just won by one vote.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
But it doesn't happen, and he would have to win
that division to even have a chance, and I'm not
convinced of their defense.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
But what is the number, Rob G?
Speaker 6 (06:45):
Since 1970, only eight players have won the MVP without
winning their division.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
And not since 2012, right?
Speaker 6 (06:51):
And not since 2012 has a player won the MVP
not being in the top two seats.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
It just doesn't happen.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
And I don't think that the Bengals are good enough.
And they're going to have to prove me wrong. Because
I've seen this guy play. You know I'm all on
Joe Burrow. When he went to Cincinnati, they couldn't win
a playoff game. They struggled.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
They had a couple of runs.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Won the Super Bowl, won the AFC Championship. You know,
and they had seven. At one time, they had lost
seven straight postseason games. And Joe Burrow. And then he
went to what?
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Don't do Marvin Lewis like that. Well, but it's true.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
I mean, they were good under Marvin Lewis. They just
couldn't win a playoff game. And a couple times they
were winning and they choked or whatever.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
And Carson Palmer got hurt the one year. Yeah, just brutal.
I mean, Marvin Lewis was a really good coach.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Where he been in life? I think he's got to
be retired. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
You know, like pop up on TV, doing stuff. I
haven't seen Marvin Lewis anywhere. But anyway, my point is,
I think it's a hard thing for him because of
the defense, which I'm not convinced of, and then the
other players in that division. I expect there's no way
he's going to win an MVP when Lamar and the
Ravens win the division.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (07:59):
I don't know how you're going to be able to
justify that, and I don't see them winning the division.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
I don't see it.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
We both picked the Ravens when we did our picks earlier.
But I will say this, and you mentioned it. It
happens every now and again, and I think Joe Burrow
can make it happen. When you look at what he
did in 2024, me and you sat here astonished, and
we said, man, if the defense could just have helped
him a couple of games, two, three games, he might
have been the MVP that year. He had 4,918 yards,
which led the NFL. 43 touchdowns led the NFL. Nine interceptions. 71%
(08:29):
completion percentage. It was insane what he was doing, right?
And we talked about it.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
He had.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Nine touchdowns, one interception against the two games versus the Ravens,
but his defense doesn't help him out.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Even last year, only playing in eight games.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
17 touchdowns, five interceptions in almost 2,000 yards in just
eight games. So when he's rolling and the offense is
incredible and they got all the guys and got all
the pieces, to your point of the defense, They have
tightened the defense up. Now, do I expect them to
be looking like the 0-1 Ravens? No, but they have
tightened the defense up a little bit as well, which
could help. So I think more like a Russell Westbrook
(09:02):
season when he won the MVP, where typically it's a
top one, two seed, wins the MVP in the NBA and.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
So on and so forth.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
Him being a what? Six seed, I believe it was, six,
seven seed when Russell Westbrook won. Because it was that exceptional,
I think Joe Burrow can do that where, all right, yes,
it's normally what you guys were just discussing, but the
man just threw for 42, 43, 45 touchdowns, 4,800 yards,
and they ended up being, you know, 10 and 7,
11 and 6, and I think he could have a
(09:30):
chance to do it because the numbers will be that gaudy.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Who you got instead? If it ain't him, then who
you got? Lamar. Okay. Lamar's been hurt, been beat up.
How many games did he miss?
Speaker 4 (09:41):
I'm not ever mad at Lamar. You should have three MVPs.
You know I'm never mad at Lamar. Until I, you know,
and now I just think, I don't know, I was
soured on John Harbaugh.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
I told you that even before that. They just soured.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Wasn't that Adam Kaepernick we had on who was saying,
you know, talk to me later about what was going
on with Harbaugh and it wasn't good?
Speaker 4 (10:00):
And the other thing, too, I think if you really, like,
look back and think to yourself, like, how bad– How
many bad things have happened for Lamar and the Ravens?
And I'm not excusing Lamar, but drop ball, fumbles. Yeah,
you know what I mean? Like, they should have won. Like,
(10:20):
as bad as they were last.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Year, they should have won a division.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
He marched them down the field for, what was it,
Rob G, a 35-yard field goal or something?
Speaker 2 (10:28):
It wasn't that far.
Speaker 6 (10:30):
He had never missed from inside 40 all season.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
And he missed it. Like, he missed it.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
And that's what all those games missed by Lamar and
the defense being terrible. And they finally got it together.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
Together.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
So, no, I expect Lamar to be, listen, if there's
a top five candidates for MVP, Lamar's, you know, my
top three every year. Because if a guy's going to
throw me, you know, 30 touchdowns and rush for eight
and then do what he does and put the high
percentage and all that, I'm right there with you. So, Lamar,
Josh Allen, those guys are always going to be candidates
for sure. But Joe Burrow, to me, this is his
(11:00):
year of, dude, your defense is better.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
I don't, again.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
They start 0-5 every year. I don't know what MVP's winning.
I don't know what that is.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
What's their early season record, Rob G, right? The last
three years.
Speaker 6 (11:11):
Under Zach Taylor, they have the worst September record in NFL.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
By the way, with what you just said and what
you just confirmed the numbers, Zach Taylor keep a job,
don't he?
Speaker 2 (11:20):
It's crazy.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
That boy keep a job. You put yourself in such
a hole. It's so hard to dig out. Who did
they start out, Rob G?
Speaker 2 (11:28):
I got it up here. I got you right here, yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
I'm just curious as to where they start and what
situation they'll be in.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
They play week one. It just went away. They ain't
gonna schedule. They play the Bucs at home.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
That's winnable. Be a good one, I think, but they
should win that. They go, just to give you the
first five or six games, four games.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
They go... They go Bucs.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Then they go Texans, Steelers, Jags, Dolphins, just to read
off a few. Bucs, obviously the Texans, that defense is
going to be insane. They could beat the Steelers. They'll
be on the road. And then the Jags, that should
be a good one.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
And then the Dolphins. I remember it's a divisional game, too. Yeah,
and the Dolphins should be. I mean, they just, they
should be. They win three, four games. I got them
with one game. One of the, how many did I read? Five.
One game.
Speaker 7 (12:36):
1-4?
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
I'm going to say that. And then they play the Ravens.
That would be a good one there. So 1-5. They
got a little run there. 1-5 to start. I'm just saying.
Wait a minute. 1-5 to start. So you have the
Steelers beating them.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
At home?
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Yeah, I do. The Bucs beating them.
Speaker 5 (12:55):
Hold on.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
I'm not the Bucs beating them. The Dolphins and the Jags.
Are the Dolphins the only win?
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Yeah, Dolphins. They'll beat the Dolphins. So they'll start off 0-4?
Speaker 5 (13:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Yes, then they'll win a game, and then they'll lose
to the Ravens. So I got them at 1-5 to start.
Because you know what you were never going to say?
That they'll be 2-2.
Speaker 7 (13:11):
No.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
They'll either be 5-0 or 1-4. And I think Joe
Burrow's a fantastic quarterback. So it has nothing to do
with him. I have to see the changes they made defensively.
And I know they added some pieces.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
They have.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Let's see. They have. Let's see.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
And they tightened up the offensive line a little bit, too,
because that was another thing. Had that man running around,
you know, for his life. I don't think they're that.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
I think they spent too much money on offense.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Listen, that's going to be their strength. You know what
I mean? They're going to have to outscore you. But
you don't win games, though, like that. We saw that.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
We saw them score put-up points against the Ravens, left
and right. Still couldn't win the game. Because you've got
to be able to get a stop. You remember you
watched the Pistons in 2004 and their teams and all that.
Remember it was about getting stopped at the end.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
That was the old. In those days. One and four. Dang,
that's crazy. I'm going to give you. I'm looking at it.
I'm going three and two.
Speaker 5 (14:02):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Three and two.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Which, to your point, though, that would be great for
them to finally start off actually good versus always trying
to have to catch up in the latter part of
the season.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
But Joe Burrow, I think he's going to have a
monstrous year. Monstrous. I think he's going to be like,
y'all must have forgot type of year from Joe Burrow.
You got everybody. You got Patrick Mahomes, too, right?
Speaker 1 (14:24):
No, I think Patrick Mahomes is going to have another
similar like last year. Obviously, he played the whole season.
Where it'll be top 10 type of a, for the quarterbacks,
top eight, but it won't be here. I don't think
he's ever going to go back to what we saw
those first, you know, four or five or whatever years.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Like, I think it'll be perfect. I think you'll have
a Sam Donald type year.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
He'll be, you know, give you 30, give you 11 interceptions,
be fine, be perfectly fine, but it won't be like spectacular.
Like I'd expect Josh Allen, Lamar, Joe to have like
crazy years. Cause also the running ability, right? Josh Allen,
he'll give you 15 touchdowns on the ground.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
All right, 877-99 on Fox. Is Joe Burrow a legitimate
MVP candidate this season? I say no because of his team.
Kelvin says he's going to be an MVP or have
an MVP-type season. We'll continue that conversation next with you.
877-99 on Fox. It is The Odd Couple on a
Worship Wednesday. Rob Parker, Kelvin Washington, right here on Fox

Speaker 6 (15:27):
Especially if Uncle Rob will celebrate another injury in the
US of A.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
No, I'm not celebrating injuries. Rob. I just want to
be right.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
And even if that means you walk out of here
on a stretcher.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
I said Alex played taps and that was on Alex. Oh,
he's throwing it on me. Oh, he's going to throw
you under the bus, Alex. Quickest non-fluffer of my life
right now. Don't do it to your fluffer now. You know, Alex,
I'm playing. Come on. Oh, God.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Yo, college football is back and in the NFL, but
we're talking about college football, and there's no better place
to trade the action than Cal State America's number one
prediction market platform, Texas, trading at 52% to beat Ohio State,
meaning a $ 100 trade pays out $ 185 with a win,
and the Buckeyes are the number one team in the country,
but the Longhorns have the home field advantage and... a

heck of a matchup. On Kalshi, you're trading against peers

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Rob G., check that for me. Yes, it is. All right.
I couldn't see the score. I was yawning, so I

Speaker 7 (18:50):
Oh, God.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
All right, let's take some calls. Joe Burrow, a lot
of folks thinking he's MVP this season. I think so
as well. You say not. What say you?
Speaker 2 (19:00):
Andre, in Mississippi, you're on the Odd Couple Fox Sports Radio.
What's happening? How are you? I'm doing great, man.
Speaker 8 (19:10):
Why are we bringing.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Up Joe Burrow, man?
Speaker 9 (19:13):
Joe Burrow is the football Anthony Davis.
Speaker 7 (19:18):
He's never available.
Speaker 8 (19:20):
So do you think he's going to.
Speaker 9 (19:22):
Be the MVP?
Speaker 2 (19:23):
Well, you know, it's funny. That's what the executives both
mentioned that. You're right.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
I mean, he's been injured a lot. Listen, ain't no
denying it. Throughout his pro and college career. Ain't no
denying it.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
He might be best dressed.
Speaker 8 (19:34):
He keep living on that one Super Bowl he did
get to.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Hey, he was getting.
Speaker 7 (19:38):
Killed then with the offensive line. Nothing's going to change
in Cincinnati, guys. Don't waste your time.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Vote for somebody else. I hear you. I'm with you, Andre.
It ain't happening. It ain't going to happen. As good
as he is, I just think he's one of those guys.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
Unless his team, if they win a division and make a,
you know what I mean, and have a year we're
not expecting, oh, then they definitely got a chance for that.
Let's go to Chili Tim in Atlanta. Chili, what's happening?
You're on the Odd Couple Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 7 (20:11):
Yo, yo, yo.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
What up, guys?
Speaker 2 (20:13):
What up, bro?
Speaker 5 (20:14):
Good, man.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Where you been, bro?
Speaker 7 (20:16):
I've been around.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
He called on Monday. Oh, yeah, you were off. He
called Monday, yeah. Working out here like a crazy man,
17 shifts. Who, me? You said I was off all summer.
I'm working now.
Speaker 7 (20:28):
But, Kelvin, you guys never took calls most of the time.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
There you go. There you go. I wasn't listening, though. Chili,
blame Rob G. I'll tell her. I'll be like, Rob G.,
you got to open the lines up. When I'm not here,
don't listen, because they're not going to include you guys.
I'm just telling you.
Speaker 7 (20:42):
I'm still going to listen to them.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Thank you, Chili.
Speaker 7 (20:43):
I'm still going to listen to them, but... Is Walter
Matthau the coach of the Angels? I was just wanting
to know. But, you know, the bad news bag.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Right, right, yeah.
Speaker 7 (20:52):
But I think with the– I think you got Josh
Allen and Lamar. You still have Stafford and maybe even
that Chris Scott. Those teams will.
Speaker 9 (21:00):
Have better records. And so those guys will have a
better opportunity even before you get to Joe Burrows. I
think there's about four of those four guys are probably
ahead of him because those teams will have better records.
and probably have a better chance of, you know, hitting
winning division or being a top two seed.
Speaker 7 (21:18):
So as good as he is, I would put those
four guys possibly, probably ahead of him. And maybe even
Caleb Williams, depending on how the Bears shake it.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Right.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
If they follow up and Caleb is better... And they
start winning games. He's going to be in the mix.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
I agree.
Speaker 9 (21:37):
I think four or five guys are probably even ahead
of him because they'll have better records.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
I get what you mean. Dak will be an interesting one. Dak,
he's going to be an interesting one. The offense should
be potent for them. But, again, similar to Joe, it's
like something always goes wrong with them. You know what
I mean? So, on paper, I agree with you. Dak
Prescott should have a huge season. So, we'll have to
wait and see. He's got some crazy good receivers on
the outside, without a doubt, Pickens and Lamb. All right,
(22:01):
college kids with Mark Gunnall on the way right now.
Monsi Bolaños is getting you updated.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington. Weekdays at 7 p.m. Eastern,
4 p.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
It's The Odd Couple. Rob and Kelvin on a worship Wednesday.
Last call on the way in a little bit right now.
It's time for the first of this season, college kids
with Mark Gunnall.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
It's time for the college kids here on The Odd Couple.
A look at this week's college football through the eyes
of the young and inexperienced.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
The rookie in the bed. They swear they know college ball.
Takes it into the end zone. Yeah, right. Fundamentals are
going to show up.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Are their takes sophomoric or graduation-worthy?
Speaker 2 (22:48):
Rob and Calvin will decide. Bring them on. That's right.
Speaker 6 (22:52):
College Kids is back for the second season, 2026, a
segment we go around the college football world and discuss
all the biggest headlines in the Big Ten and the SEC,
also known as the AFC and the NFC of college football,
because nobody cares about the other conferences.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
In order to break.
Speaker 6 (23:08):
Down the Big Ten properly... We had to bring in
a real sports media expert, a man who was so
quick to disrespect the Sean Foster that he was almost
too right. He said he was going to make it
to the end of the season. He lost his job
for like three weeks.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
He was right about that. I was tough.
Speaker 6 (23:22):
I got to admit that one. But none other than
our friend.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
You know him.
Speaker 6 (23:24):
You love him.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Mark Gunnels. Mark.
Speaker 7 (23:27):
Hey, how you guys doing?
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Welcome back, bro.
Speaker 7 (23:30):
Another year, man.
Speaker 8 (23:31):
I appreciate you guys bringing me back.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
You did a great job last year, right? Yeah, you
were all right. Some of your picks, you know, and
it was all right.
Speaker 7 (23:38):
You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (23:38):
But, you know. Nah, you did your thing. Welcome back, bro.
Speaker 7 (23:41):
Nah, thank you, man.
Speaker 8 (23:42):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 9 (23:42):
You guys had a good summer?
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Oh, yeah, man. I didn't see Rob the whole summer.
I was here.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
All right.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
Rob, I give you credit. You like to lock in.
But let me have my little fun that you finally
had a little vacay, okay?
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Okay. You always complain I never take off, so I
took a few days off. I know. I ain't never
going to take no days off.
Speaker 8 (24:01):
All right.
Speaker 6 (24:01):
Now, it's been a hot minute since we did this segment,
so in case you forgot, if the guys like Mark's take,
you're going to hear this sound.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
Back to school. Back to school.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
That's the wrong one. No, it's about... There we go. Congratulations.
You're going to hear this one.
Speaker 5 (24:18):
Back to school.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
There we go.
Speaker 5 (24:19):
Back to school.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
We're a little rusty. We're a little rusty. We're not
going back to school. Exactly.
Speaker 6 (24:23):
All right, so he's got three takes. Let's get started
right here. Take number one involving the Big Ten. Mark
says that Michigan, who... Won a controversial victory there in
week one.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
They didn't win that game.
Speaker 6 (24:34):
Will not N-O-C, N-O-T, see the top 25 again this season, Mark?
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Tell us why.
Speaker 8 (24:40):
Yeah, I mean, everybody told you exactly what it is
right now. I mean, look at the recent polls. They,
in quotations, won that game, and they still fill out
the top 25. And then they got to play Oklahoma
this week.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
That's a loss.
Speaker 8 (24:56):
They still got to play Iowa, Penn State, Indiana, Oregon,
Ohio State. This team is fraudulent. Kyle Winningham is already
talking about maybe benching his quarterback. And there's already some
controversy there with Bryce Underwood, his press conference today. He
didn't even know that. That was even said.
Speaker 7 (25:14):
He was kind of caught off guard. Like, what? He
said that?
Speaker 2 (25:17):
Like, come on.
Speaker 8 (25:18):
Michigan's a joke. They would not be ranked again this year.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Hey. Mark, I think you're going to grad school. Right,
spot on.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
And I don't think, and I might be wrong, that
a team in the top 25 ever, you know, dropped
out completely after winning a game, right?
Speaker 2 (25:37):
That's ever happened.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
And they just weren't barely in.
Speaker 8 (25:40):
They were like 16th.
Speaker 7 (25:41):
Right.
Speaker 8 (25:42):
Right.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
They were 16th, and they dropped. You know, you got
a W, and you fall out of the top 25. That, like, never,
ever happens. But everybody knows. Everybody watched it. And you're
right about the QB. His reaction was shocking, as if
he was like, what?
Speaker 2 (25:58):
What? Like, he had no idea that there was any
talk about that. And that's why you're graduating, man. 90!
Speaker 1 (26:05):
And it pains me as, you know, a Michigan fan
and all. But the reality is Bryce Underwood is underachieved.
And that looked great. And last year wasn't great. You
thought maybe okay this year. Give him a little chance.
Give him some time.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Didn't look good. Against Western Michigan. He couldn't move the ball.
At all. Looked bad. Turnovers.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
And when you really look at their schedule again, you
mentioned some of the teams. And you know there's always
a sneaky team. You know what I mean? That you
get in there. Like maybe UCLA gives them a tough go.
Not to mention the one you already mentioned. So, yeah,
this is a rebuild for them. For them, absolutely. Maybe
some more alum money comes in, alumni money, and they
get some better NIL next year.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
I'm going to tell you something. Their new coach, he
probably had a heart attack. Had they lost? Even though
people feel they lost?
Speaker 1 (26:47):
But to lose officially on record to Western Michigan would
not have been good.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
He just got there. You can't be losing to Western,
Rob G.
Speaker 6 (26:54):
Shout out to the Broncos. All right, take number two,
switching gears to a good team in the conference, Ohio State.
Jeremiah Smith, their superstar wide receiver. Mark Gunnell says, you
know what? Not only is he going to win the Heisman,
he's going to run away with it. Mark, tell us why.
Speaker 8 (27:09):
Yeah, I mean, right now, that first game, because it
was before Saturday, everybody was talking about Malachi Toney from Miami.
And granted, he's an amazing player. But you have to
consider the schedule as well. Miami's in the ACC. They
don't play nobody. They play Notre Dame later in the season.
It's the only game they have that they may lose.
I think they will lose that game, actually. But look
(27:30):
at Jeremiah Smith. In the Big Ten, he's going to
be playing in big-time games almost every week. And I
know that was against Ball State, but he had 150
yards in the first half. He set the whole second half.
He didn't even have to go out and stat pad.
Clearly the best player in the country, regardless of position.
I think this is a slam dunk, man.
Speaker 7 (27:48):
He's going to run away with it this year.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
You are getting held back, brother.
Speaker 5 (27:52):
Back to school. Back to school.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
And it's not that anything really– I think he's going
to be spectacular. But, man, you have to be on
another level for them to give it to a receiver
over a quarterback. And I don't know if you ever
heard of this dude named Arch Manning, who they are clamoring.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
They are drooling. They can't wait to give him a
Heisman Trophy winner.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
All he has to do is, you know, win the
games he's supposed to win, put up some solid numbers.
He doesn't even have to have a historic season. And
they're going to give it to Arch. So I love
what you're saying about Smith, but it's Arch to me.
Speaker 8 (28:21):
He's going to lose this week against Ohio State, by
the way.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
But they'll count that as a good loss. That's right.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
There are good losses in college. And, Mark, you are
going back to freshman year.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Sorry about that.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
Back to school. Back to school.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Only five wide receivers have won the Heisman Trophy. Five.
Speaker 5 (28:38):
Five.
Speaker 4 (28:40):
And only two since Desmond Howard won it in 1991.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
That's how infrequently wide receivers. I agree. I agree with you.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
We know Ohio State and receivers and all that.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
But I just don't see it. I'm with you. You're
going to have to have like 25 touchdowns. You know
what I mean? It's something absurd. All right. Last one.
College kids.
Speaker 6 (29:00):
Sports media personality Mark Gunnell sitting in with the odd
couple talking Big Ten foosball.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Here we go. We're going to close it out with
this one.
Speaker 6 (29:07):
Mark says that, you know what, Indiana will probably be
a better football team this year than they were last year.
But they ain't going to win it all. College football's
deeper this year than they were last year. Better teams
all across the country. Mark, explain yourself.
Speaker 8 (29:23):
Yeah, I think last year was the perfect storm. You know,
I mean, Ohio State was their biggest competition. That was
obviously in conference, so those games are always going to
be tough.
Speaker 7 (29:32):
Those were the toughest games.
Speaker 8 (29:33):
Miami, they were good, but come on, did we really
think they were like national championship good? I don't think
nobody really expected that. Obviously, Bama's been down. LSU wasn't
anything last year. Georgia was kind of whatever. Oregon was Oregon,
but I feel like this year, the depth, And college
football is a lot better. So Indiana is actually going
to be better this year, I think, as a team talent-wise.
Speaker 9 (29:55):
They have a lot of.
Speaker 8 (29:56):
Future pros in that team. A couple wide receivers. The
quarterback looks good. I like Omar Cooper Jr., their top receiver,
probably a first-round pick. But I just think the depth
this year in college football is just too deep for
them to actually win it. But they'll be better as
a team.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Congrats. You graduate, and you hit on a lot of
the points.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
Listen, it's hard to repeat anything in life, any sport
when it comes to champions. And absolutely, they kind of
have that target on their back. It's hard to duplicate
and replicate the magic that they had there. They had,
you know, so many things go their way, even some
last-second touchdown catches in the end zone and all that.
So I agree it's going to be difficult. I expect
them to be very good in a hard out. But
I don't think they'll be able to get it done.
(30:35):
I think somebody else pops back. Is it an Ohio State?
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Is it a Miami?
Speaker 1 (30:39):
Is it an Oregon finally does it? You know, obviously
some teams from the SEC as well.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
Yeah, I'm with Kelvin and you. I think you're cum laude.
How's that?
Speaker 1 (30:52):
We got confused there for a second.
Speaker 6 (30:56):
We got confused.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
You got it.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
Okay, I'm sorry about that. It's just, it is hard
to repeat. You're not sneaking up on anybody. It was,
everything worked out perfectly for them. They had 28-year-olds.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
They paid.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
Yo, by the time we end this show. $ 75 million
on their payroll. Like, yeah, Mark Cuban might not be
handing out. He got his thrill.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
He got his good, got his ring.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Right.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
My team won. Okay.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
I'm not sending you all of my money anymore. So
I'm with you, Mark. It ain't happening again.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
Good stuff, Mark.
Speaker 7 (31:28):
Thank you, guys. Appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
No doubt. Give him a follow. Mark A.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
Gunnels.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
On X. We'll do it again throughout the season.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
And the Angels did beat the Red Sox 6-4.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
They did. What are they now? A couple games, two
games up in the wild card. Very interesting.
