doesn't sound that good right now.

No, I can't believe they're going to keep up this
pace like like they've they've done all this and they're
still behind the Yankees and they're still behind Tampa.

Think about what they've just done, you know, baseball, and
to do all that in the division and I get
the wild card and whatnot, and they have you know,
some some room, but all of that and they still
could be third in their division. And the other thing
that's scary is they can easily have a bad week
and change everything. That that's you know, when you're when

you're trying to dig yourself out. They can't keep this up.
Baseball is very very It balances out. I can't give
you and say what for sure, they're gonna lose and
this and that. But I just I'm watching this and
I can't figure it out when teams win on this pace,
that there's an evening out in baseball?

Do you agree with me on on that? Do you
understand what I say? We talk about the way we
talk about it.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
On games, UH Dodgers score eleven runs, We're like, oh,
you've better save some of those for the next game
or whatever.

And they get shut out or they score one run.
It's very weird.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Here's the thing. I hear you.

But at some point it is just simply what it is,
and it's becomes all right, Well, this team has turned
it around, and this team has become good. And what
makes this interesting is how they're doing it. Rob they
ain't doing it because all of a sudden the bats
are on fire.

I mean you look at it. There have the fourth
worst UH runs per game. They're only averaging four point
one none of it adds up.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
That says, I'm sorry, I'm a phrase that it's the
fifth worst that they've had since nineteen seventy three.

So the offense isn't doing it.
Speaker 5 (04:04):
Uh in their last right now in the American League
in home runs, so it's.

Like playing at Fenway Park one.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
So what's going on is the pitching right now has
really stepped up for them, and so that's keeping them
in games that maybe they had no chance or no,
they shouldn't be in uh and all of a sudden
they're able to do that. So you talked about it.
They won fifteen straight games in mid to late July.
That was a franchise record, and what they're on right
(04:32):
now is a great streak where they're all of a
sudden able to be they're sixty three and fifty one.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
You mentioned that they're three games behind the Yankees.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
A game behind the Yankees, I have to say for
the wildcard spot, a few games behind the Tampa Bay Rays.
And they got something going. And it reminds me of
me sitting next to you back our first year that
that fall watching the Tigers where it just kept not
making sense. We kept going, well, no, they got okay,
well man, well yeah, that's what you know.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
That's when Cleveland won the division, right you're talking about
when the Times kept losing and they lost like fifteen
out of seven.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
No, no, that was last all last year you mean
two years ago, now, two.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
Years ago when they got on fire and got into
the postseason and everybody was.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Like, oh, last year was the other way right.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
Yeah, exactly, and it was everybody it was two years ago.
Go oh man, the Tigers are supposed to be as good.
It's not supposed to get his run and they and
they were able to get it done, getting the postseason
and really brought some life to the city, as you know.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
So I feel like the Red Sox are just on
this run right.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
Now where they're believing they got a change of mojo
the pitch and is keeping them in games. And you
know how important that is because you can steal games
that you're not supposed to win.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
And right now they got a good thing going. And
so shoot, I mean, ride this thing out. Any Yankees
gonna be going quite what how much long? With out
Aaron Judge?
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Right, no, no, no, And the whole idea is them
being able to which is incredible when you think about
it that they were able to hold the time, considering
that that you don't have not only him, you don't
have Stanton. There's been a lot of injuries, Cody bellingers out.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Of the lineup.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I mean there's three guys right there, like three big pieces, three.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
Big bats, huge bats from two of them, right You
know that that you would obviously need to try to
make a run for this. So I'm just looking at
it as if you're the Red Sox, just saying, hey,
this is we've We've righted the ship. We got something going.
You know, the Yankees aren't necessarily world beaters. Now, the
pitching has been good for the not to the last
last few they'll go arounds Yankees, but the pitching has

been good for them as well. That's kind of been
what a lot of us, even you and I talked about.
What makes them think that if they get in the postseason,
they got a World Series chance.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
But they got three they got three great starters at
the time.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
I don't I don't look at any al team for
the most part, I don't look at any of them
as world beaters already, Like you're you're shook it.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
You're like, oh no, no, all the teams have flawed.
All the teams have flawed, I agree with you. And
then and the al is open and and again even
the Red Sox is a lot of bad teams. So
people are saying, well, they're just gobbling up all these wins.
They've been so other good teams as well. They just
swept the White Sox, you know, and they lead the
division in the Central, but they've had their own issues

in the Central. If you look at the records, like
everybody over the last ten games are like under five hundred,
they're all playing poorly. It's something and I don't know,
maybe it does. It just feels like the other shoe
is gonna drop. They got something, You got something going.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
With you because we joke about it, we laugh about it,
but I also know we see this happen in sports
where we get on that. I mean, look at they're
twenty six and four since July first, twenty six for baseball.
That's ridiculous. I told you, yeah, they had that fifteen
game winning streak. I mean, they've just they've got something
going during this that I feel like for them, they've

bought it. Opposite what we were saying about the Mets
early on earlier.

Oh yeah, I don't know what's wrong with us?

And it was like, well, no, it's like the first
three weeks of the season it sounded like they mailed it.

And then but what crazy is the Red Sox? They
fired Cora. You remember people were helping on, oh what
are you doing? He's a great manager, and the Mets
kept u Close Mendoza and that didn't work out. The
Phillies fired their manager after they struggled early, right Rob Thompson,

and guess what, Don Maddley got that straightened out.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
It's just funny how.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Those teams look dead and buried and they made changes
at the manager's position and now they're off and running,
and the Mets didn't make a change, and obviously they're
off to it.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
Just an awful season, just a awful This has been
a bat two years se Mets. You don't make the
postseason when you get won Soto last year. This season
has just been abysmo like it's just been rough for them.
I look at this too, you know, I always talk
about this when I sit next to the guys at
Sports and la Jerry Harrison, Junior, Don Treil, Adrian Gonzalez No,
Mark Garcia par and the crew, and I get to

hear them, and you know this, you you cover the league,
you're arm guys. Sometimes it's just good to hear these experts,
these playing from players and like what they see.

And one of the things.

I've brought up many times with you is that I
always talk about man like the game should be so
much more simple. And right now we talk it's just
home run and strikeout. And what the Red Sox are
doing right now, they lead all of baseball. They have
thirteen sacrifice bunts since since July, they got more than
any other team. They're doing the small ball station and

station offense. They're not using the power I told you
the home runs where they're little. You know, they're terrible
when it comes to home runs, and so they're just
finding ways to kind.

Of small ball this thing.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
Just hey, just get the you know, advance a runner,
advance a base runner, and and and get some point
and you know, get some runs. And it's working and
depending on their pitching, and we don't often see this.
Right now, we know the league has become where it's
home run or nothing, you know, or or or a
pitcher is.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Just amazing and wow, how long, like like.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Why can't it be to new them? Twenty six and
four is crazy?

They are like fifteen and three. I give you that.

We got six weeks to go. Really, this this is
they're gonna They're gonna run the table.

the low run total and not hitting home runs and

I think the earlier you know, how this goes, I
think Dodgers are. They don't have another one. They don't
have another bad stretch coming to Red.

Sox relatively week.

If they lose go six, one and six, that can
alter where they are.

That's I mean, when you're when you're fighting uphill battle, Yes,
you have no marginal era.

Because once you lose a few games, That's what I'm saying,
like you put in all of his energy to try
to catch the Yankees and and and the the Ras,
the Rays, and then you have a bad stretch and
then I'm looking I want.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
To look at the uh, the Yankee schedule because just
to kind of see, so the Yankees play the Braids
is tough obviously, so that's gonna be a tough series there.
You're going to get on the best teams in the league,
and then you go to the Mayor you got the
Blue Jays after that, Oilers Orioles Orioles. I say that

to say, I'm looking to see if you're the Red Sox, Like,
is there a run from the Yankees where they go
crazy and catch fire and you're you know, you're just
too far behind. But I think this the Yankees got
a nice, little, you know, a little difficult run coming up.
So if you're the Red Sox, keep doing what you're doing,
keep trying to find ways to win. The manufacture wins,
God forbid baseball find ways to manufacture wins anymore.

Rob, I get it. I just I thought that team
was dead. I know that they winning all these games.
I still I have to see them from my own eyes.

we had Bob Kendrick on earlier, who runs it, and
it was really kind, really really good guests. Good to
chop it up with him, and he was congratulating you.

How you got this? Not this wonderful honor? Tell us

a little bit more about it again.

Yeah, it's coming up on September twenty sixth and I
got the Innovator Award, which is basically for you know,
people who have done something, created something, done something different.
And this is special to me because you know all
the work I put in. I know you guys are
with MLB bro and we always joke about it, but
you know, there's been a lot of work. We started
(17:51):
six years ago, and we started with fourteen people and Kelvin.
We now have seventy people all over the country. We
have a nameplate in the press box at Yankee Stadium.
And you know this, Alex you noticed from the very
beginning when I just had when it was just an
idea and a thought, you know, of trying to put
this thing together.
Speaker 6 (18:13):
It's how they all start though, right.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
Oh yeah, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates was just sitting
there at the garage.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Their garage. That's crazy.

And that's why I tell people all the time, like,
don't be afraid to step out there.

Very comfortable and just do my gigs that I had
right and not try to change the world quote unquote
or try to add something different to the mix. But
there's nothing wrong with trying to, you know, dream and
put things together and make opportunities for me in my case,
for other people because it ain't just about me. I

have my baseball writing career. It's about all the other
people that's involved. So for them to recognize MLB bro
it warms my heart. It also gives more spotline on
the site, so people, if you really haven't checked it out,
it's a beautiful site.

I think we do a really good job at.

Covering black and brown baseball players, uh and telling their stories.
We don't cover games or it's more features and who
they are and trends and stuff. Not MLB dot Com

need to do that, So that's not what we do.
And I'm really proud, really proud of the staff and
a lot of it. Kelvin is the staff and the

people other people, not me. I'm I'm the front man.
You know, I'm the front man.

It takes listen, man, it takes it to build anything.
You got to have great competent people.

So absolutely congrats to you man, And you just talked
about something one thing I thought I saw a great
orator he's no longer with as a minister. In Miles Monroe.
He says something great. He said, God will give you. You
can see the dream, right, you can see that, like, oh,
this is what I want to be. I want to

be a sports reporter. I want to be a doctor.
I want to be a business and entrepreneur. You can
have the thing. You'll see the vision, you'll see the end,
but you don't get to see the process. And the
reason is because if you saw the ups, the downs,
the failures, the bankruptcy, the people that will leave you, you'd.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Be a hacking off. Get all that. I ain't going
through that.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
It ain't worth it being a sports writer, being a broadcaster,
being an anchor and have this national sports show, being
a filling the place, even if being a father, whatever
it is, you know the vision. God will show you. Hey,
this is what I want to do. This is what
I believe. This is the dream for me, the purpose.
But boy, you ain't gonna see the process because you
would not want to go through the pain.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
The agaty is starting the business. You know this. I've
my wife and I had a bit.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
We have stored the Glendale Gallery out here We have
a brand literally behind me right now for fashion brand
since twenty thirteen. We're on our year thirteen now. But
point is, boy, the journey, Rob, you know it. If
you knew the process to get some started, you wouldn't
do it. So that's why you got to go through
it and push through and keep keep striving and keep
putting that that one foot after another. Keep going, man,

and keep having the faith because nothing worth having is easy.

And and here we are, year six, and uh a
brand we we actually you know what I mean, branded
something that the players have been great when we deal
with them and they recognize us. I told you about

three iconic legends all passing at a certain time, different
errors they've led, legacies they've left for others. And the
craziest thing too, is, like you mentioned, what does it
really mean right to be missed at such an extent?
Do you think like this will have trickling effects on

future generations when it has like the passing of these
type of errors, Because if you think about it, I
had this conversation with Kelvin Rob. I know you weren't
in here, but I asked, Calvin, why aren't you the
guy that does like on social media skits? And he
had a perfect example of it because he's like, well,
our generation we grew up from Rob, Like you know,
for example, too, these legendary artists, like I'm talking about
musicians back to back to back, iconic. You could go

to any station, whether it's jazz, rap, classical, rock, anything,
you had iconic legends, and everything's kind of become mundaned
and almost pluribis, like everybody's imitating each other. And even
Kelvin said, like skits now, it's just living it's normal life, dude.

I was telling him a lot of times. You know me,

you came trekking in an industry where you're the first
one at your whole newspaper, the first person to get
hired there as black American, and you set the tone,

for others. When you think about Elvis, Aretha and Babe,
I wish we got John On. But you think about
now modern day fame. Most of these people becoming actors
have a following. Most people who get now these musical deals,
whether it's with Sony or any of these big companies,
Warner Brothers, Rob, they just have a following. They're not
even talented anymore.

Yeah, and that's the other thing. Two people are falling
for that. Oh they got a three million followers. You
don't even know how many of those people are real?

who will pay. So let's say you pay me. Let's
say let's say me and you start a record label,
and we want to sign Alex. We want to make
Alex hot. So we pay a farmer, uh, and we'll

on something, a million or a million following, right, and
what they do is a million better better. He had

a million views on his video on YouTube. So we
can go to these labels, bigger labels and say, hey,

State the vice followed. Vice went to this kid. He

with literally like one hundred phones and they're just streaming, streaming, streaming,

And this was it over a month. And you know
what I mean.

And so now we get up to a million views
and you pay me ten thousand, you get a million
views me and you cannot walk into a label. You know,
we got this hot kid Alex. He's blowing up in

to sign us a sign that's crop. But that's crazy
to think about this. That's a guy in his house.
Imagine having Warner Brothers or Sony's backing, and you have

Think about what they've just done, you know, baseball, and
to do all that in the division and I get
the wild card and whatnot, and they have you know,
some some room, but all of that and they still
could be third in their division. And the other thing
that's scary is they can easily have a bad week
and change everything. That that's you know, when you're when

you're trying to dig yourself out. They can't keep this up.
Baseball is very very It balances out. I can't give
you and say what for sure, they're gonna lose and
this and that. But I just I'm watching this and
I can't figure it out when teams win on this pace,
that there's an evening out in baseball?

Do you agree with me on on that? Do you
understand what I say? We talk about the way we
talk about it.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
On games, UH Dodgers score eleven runs, We're like, oh,
you've better save some of those for the next game
or whatever.

And they get shut out or they score one run.
It's very weird.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Here's the thing. I hear you.

But at some point it is just simply what it is,
and it's becomes all right, Well, this team has turned
it around, and this team has become good. And what
makes this interesting is how they're doing it. Rob they
ain't doing it because all of a sudden the bats
are on fire.

I mean you look at it. There have the fourth
worst UH runs per game. They're only averaging four point
one none of it adds up.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
That says, I'm sorry, I'm a phrase that it's the
fifth worst that they've had since nineteen seventy three.

So the offense isn't doing it.
Speaker 5 (04:04):
Uh in their last right now in the American League
in home runs, so it's.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Like playing at Fenway Park one.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
So what's going on is the pitching right now has
really stepped up for them, and so that's keeping them
in games that maybe they had no chance or no,
they shouldn't be in uh and all of a sudden
they're able to do that. So you talked about it.
They won fifteen straight games in mid to late July.
That was a franchise record, and what they're on right
(04:32):
now is a great streak where they're all of a
sudden able to be they're sixty three and fifty one.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
You mentioned that they're three games behind the Yankees.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
A game behind the Yankees, I have to say for
the wildcard spot, a few games behind the Tampa Bay Rays.
And they got something going. And it reminds me of
me sitting next to you back our first year that
that fall watching the Tigers where it just kept not
making sense. We kept going, well, no, they got okay,
well man, well yeah, that's what you know.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
That's when Cleveland won the division, right you're talking about
when the Times kept losing and they lost like fifteen
out of seven.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
No, no, that was last all last year you mean
two years ago, now, two.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
Years ago when they got on fire and got into
the postseason and everybody was.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Like, oh, last year was the other way right.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
Yeah, exactly, and it was everybody it was two years ago.
Go oh man, the Tigers are supposed to be as good.
It's not supposed to get his run and they and
they were able to get it done, getting the postseason
and really brought some life to the city, as you know.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
So I feel like the Red Sox are just on
this run right.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
Now where they're believing they got a change of mojo
the pitch and is keeping them in games. And you
know how important that is because you can steal games
that you're not supposed to win.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
And right now they got a good thing going. And
so shoot, I mean, ride this thing out. Any Yankees
gonna be going quite what how much long? With out
Aaron Judge?
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Right, no, no, no, And the whole idea is them
being able to which is incredible when you think about
it that they were able to hold the time, considering
that that you don't have not only him, you don't
have Stanton. There's been a lot of injuries, Cody bellingers out.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Of the lineup.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I mean there's three guys right there, like three big pieces, three.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
Big bats, huge bats from two of them, right You
know that that you would obviously need to try to
make a run for this. So I'm just looking at
it as if you're the Red Sox, just saying, hey,
this is we've We've righted the ship. We got something going.
You know, the Yankees aren't necessarily world beaters. Now, the
pitching has been good for the not to the last
last few they'll go arounds Yankees, but the pitching has

been good for them as well. That's kind of been
what a lot of us, even you and I talked about.
What makes them think that if they get in the postseason,
they got a World Series chance.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
But they got three they got three great starters at
the time.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
I don't I don't look at any al team for
the most part, I don't look at any of them
as world beaters already, Like you're you're shook it.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
You're like, oh no, no, all the teams have flawed.
All the teams have flawed, I agree with you. And
then and the al is open and and again even
the Red Sox is a lot of bad teams. So
people are saying, well, they're just gobbling up all these wins.
They've been so other good teams as well. They just
swept the White Sox, you know, and they lead the
division in the Central, but they've had their own issues
(07:10):
in the Central. If you look at the records, like
everybody over the last ten games are like under five hundred,
they're all playing poorly. It's something and I don't know,
maybe it does. It just feels like the other shoe
is gonna drop. They got something, You got something going.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
With you because we joke about it, we laugh about it,
but I also know we see this happen in sports
where we get on that. I mean, look at they're
twenty six and four since July first, twenty six for baseball.
That's ridiculous. I told you, yeah, they had that fifteen
game winning streak. I mean, they've just they've got something
going during this that I feel like for them, they've

bought it. Opposite what we were saying about the Mets
early on earlier.

Oh yeah, I don't know what's wrong with us?

And it was like, well, no, it's like the first
three weeks of the season it sounded like they mailed it.

And then but what crazy is the Red Sox? They
fired Cora. You remember people were helping on, oh what
are you doing? He's a great manager, and the Mets
kept u Close Mendoza and that didn't work out. The
Phillies fired their manager after they struggled early, right Rob Thompson,

and guess what, Don Maddley got that straightened out.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
It's just funny how.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Those teams look dead and buried and they made changes
at the manager's position and now they're off and running,
and the Mets didn't make a change, and obviously they're
off to it.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
Just an awful season, just a awful This has been
a bat two years se Mets. You don't make the
postseason when you get won Soto last year. This season
has just been abysmo like it's just been rough for them.
I look at this too, you know, I always talk
about this when I sit next to the guys at
Sports and la Jerry Harrison, Junior, Don Treil, Adrian Gonzalez No,
Mark Garcia par and the crew, and I get to

hear them, and you know this, you you cover the league,
you're arm guys. Sometimes it's just good to hear these experts,
these playing from players and like what they see.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
And one of the things.

I've brought up many times with you is that I
always talk about man like the game should be so
much more simple. And right now we talk it's just
home run and strikeout. And what the Red Sox are
doing right now, they lead all of baseball. They have
thirteen sacrifice bunts since since July, they got more than
any other team. They're doing the small ball station and

station offense. They're not using the power I told you
the home runs where they're little. You know, they're terrible
when it comes to home runs, and so they're just
finding ways to kind.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Of small ball this thing.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
Just hey, just get the you know, advance a runner,
advance a base runner, and and and get some point
and you know, get some runs. And it's working and
depending on their pitching, and we don't often see this.
Right now, we know the league has become where it's
home run or nothing, you know, or or or a
pitcher is.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Just amazing and wow, how long, like like.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Why can't it be to new them? Twenty six and
four is crazy?

They are like fifteen and three. I give you that.

We got six weeks to go. Really, this this is

think Dodgers are. They don't have another one. They don't
have another bad stretch coming to Red.

If they lose go six, one and six, that can
alter where they are.

That's I mean, when you're when you're fighting uphill battle, Yes,
you have no marginal era.

like you put in all of his energy to try
to catch the Yankees and and and the the Ras,
the Rays, and then you have a bad stretch and
then I'm looking I want.

To look at the uh, the Yankee schedule because just
to kind of see, so the Yankees play the Braids
is tough obviously, so that's gonna be a tough series there.
You're going to get on the best teams in the league,
and then you go to the Mayor you got the
Blue Jays after that, Oilers Orioles Orioles. I say that

to say, I'm looking to see if you're the Red Sox, Like,
is there a run from the Yankees where they go
crazy and catch fire and you're you know, you're just
too far behind. But I think this the Yankees got
a nice, little, you know, a little difficult run coming up.
So if you're the Red Sox, keep doing what you're doing,
keep trying to find ways to win. The manufacture wins,
God forbid baseball find ways to manufacture wins anymore.

We went to see his He does a big, huge
charity Christmas show and it's huge.

And at the end, you know, we were fortunate enough
tun to Tammy Matt KJLH radio station out here in
LA and everybody who stuck around say, it was maybe
fifty of us, and man, he just puts on a
personal show, tell stories. You get to go up there,
you know, shake his head, take a picture with him.
He just chops it up with everybody. Man, it was
amazing experience. He won the greatest artists of all time

just get to be around him for so long. So
shout out to Stevie Wonder and legend for sure, it
is the odd couple. On a fucky flashback Friday, we
got John Sirillo coming up here in a little bit,
author and pr legend. He's got a new book, Elvis,

you were saying months ago about the Negro League Museum. Yes,
we had Bob Kendrick on earlier, who runs it, and
it was really kind, really really good guests. Good to
chop it up with him, and he was congratulating you.
I thought it was some Choi Letard stuff going on.
How you got this? Not this wonderful honor? Tell us

a little bit more about it again.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Yeah, it's coming up on September twenty sixth and I
got the Innovator Award, which is basically for you know,
people who have done something, created something, done something different.
And this is special to me because you know all
the work I put in. I know you guys are
with MLB bro and we always joke about it, but
you know, there's been a lot of work. We started
(17:51):
six years ago, and we started with fourteen people and Kelvin.
We now have seventy people all over the country. We
have a nameplate in the press box at Yankee Stadium.
And you know this, Alex you noticed from the very
beginning when I just had when it was just an
idea and a thought, you know, of trying to put
this thing together.
Speaker 6 (18:13):
It's how they all start though, right.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
Oh yeah, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates was just sitting
there at the garage.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Their garage. That's crazy.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
And that's why I tell people all the time, like,
don't be afraid to step out there.

I could be.

Very comfortable and just do my gigs that I had
right and not try to change the world quote unquote
or try to add something different to the mix. But
there's nothing wrong with trying to, you know, dream and
put things together and make opportunities for me in my case,
for other people because it ain't just about me. I

have my baseball writing career. It's about all the other
people that's involved. So for them to recognize MLB bro
it warms my heart. It also gives more spotline on
the site, so people, if you really haven't checked it out,
it's a beautiful site.

I think we do a really good job at.

Covering black and brown baseball players, uh and telling their stories.
We don't cover games or it's more features and who
they are and trends and stuff. Not MLB dot Com
does the They go do the game coverage. We don't
need to do that, So that's not what we do.
And I'm really proud, really proud of the staff and
a lot of it. Kelvin is the staff and the

people other people, not me. I'm I'm the front man.
You know, I'm the front man.

It takes listen, man, it takes it to build anything.
You got to have great competent people.

It takes an idea, it takes a passion behind that.
So absolutely congrats to you man, And you just talked
about something one thing I thought I saw a great
orator he's no longer with as a minister. In Miles Monroe.
He says something great. He said, God will give you. You
can see the dream, right, you can see that, like, oh,
this is what I want to be. I want to

be a sports reporter. I want to be a doctor.
I want to be a business and entrepreneur. You can
have the thing. You'll see the vision, you'll see the end,
but you don't get to see the process. And the
reason is because if you saw the ups, the downs,
the failures, the bankruptcy, the people that will leave you, you'd.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Be a hacking off. Get all that. I ain't going
through that.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
It ain't worth it being a sports writer, being a broadcaster,
being an anchor and have this national sports show, being
a filling the place, even if being a father, whatever
it is, you know the vision. God will show you. Hey,
this is what I want to do. This is what
I believe. This is the dream for me, the purpose.
But boy, you ain't gonna see the process because you
would not want to go through the pain.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
The agaty is starting the business. You know this. I've
my wife and I had a bit.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
We have stored the Glendale Gallery out here We have
a brand literally behind me right now for fashion brand
since twenty thirteen. We're on our year thirteen now. But
point is, boy, the journey, Rob, you know it. If
you knew the process to get some started, you wouldn't
do it. So that's why you got to go through
it and push through and keep keep striving and keep
putting that that one foot after another. Keep going, man,

and keep having the faith because nothing worth having is easy.

And and here we are, year six, and uh a
brand we we actually you know what I mean, branded
something that the players have been great when we deal
with them and they recognize us. I told you about
Yankee Stadium and the name plate. That's significant. We were
at the All Star Game. We had five reporters covering
at the All Star Game. Uh, I'm just the work.

And then and the opportunity rap to treat them, you know,
mint all right, here we go.

I'm glad you didn't bring that up with Bobb. You know,

and shirts? That'll just but but I have another suitcase

That's fifty T shirts in that That takes up a
lot of space. That's why I can't get that all
my clothes in. And then I got you and that

from my I got this designer that I found I love.
He's been got a few from him. So I gotta

Those are three pretty big cons to die on the

do you have anything like relate Like for me, birthday
is August twenty third. The late great Kobe Bryant, he
and I share a birthday. He's a few, you know,
years older than me. But uh, you know, I always
say greatness was born on August twenty third.

What I mean? You got Kobe, I understand.

But but what I'm just saying, no, no, no, Alex, that's scary,
like to be on the same leg those are three
legendary people.

It's kind of weird, isn't it. It's not like you
can't say coincidences because I don't believe in that.

Cool, But yeah, there's like something connected there where it
makes you wonder, like was this like a passing of
the guard in a certain way where you have these
three iconic legends all passing at a certain time, different
errors they've led, legacies they've left for others. And the
craziest thing too, is, like you mentioned, what does it
really mean right to be missed at such an extent?
Do you think like this will have trickling effects on

future generations when it has like the passing of these
type of errors, Because if you think about it, I
had this conversation with Kelvin Rob. I know you weren't
in here, but I asked, Calvin, why aren't you the
guy that does like on social media skits? And he
had a perfect example of it because he's like, well,
our generation we grew up from Rob, Like you know,
for example, too, these legendary artists, like I'm talking about
musicians back to back to back, iconic. You could go

to any station, whether it's jazz, rap, classical, rock, anything,
you had iconic legends, and everything's kind of become mundaned
and almost pluribis, like everybody's imitating each other. And even
Kelvin said, like skits now, it's just living it's normal life, dude.

I was telling him Rob, I was just gonna say,
I was telling him a lot of times. You know me,
Rob Off the air, we hang it out for him.
I'm crazy and silly and like a lot of times,
so what like, dude, if you do that online, I'm like,
that's just that's just normal.

That wasn't like talent in our eraas you know what
I mean.

Like, so I've always weirded out with like what is
deemed talent now. Aretha was talent, may Ruth was talent,
Elvis was talent, and so it's it's just what we've

it is changed now what we do, who we who
we make famous?

No, I'll give you a perfect example, okay, like the
content creators. Yes, and I'm not gonna I'm not you
get to rip on people, but let's be honest. Everybody's
doing my day. I got up from bed, I made
my bed, I ate breakfast.

You're right though, because think about it, when you talked
about starting MLB bro, which ties all this in like
a bow, right right. Most people don't even think about
starting websites now because the younger generation thinks it's already
been done. I'm seeing everybody do it. So what can
I do to make a difference in the world. When
you came trekking in an industry where you're the first
one at your whole newspaper, the first person to get
hired there as black American, and you set the tone,

and so for you, you're like, let me leave the track
for others. When you think about Elvis, Aretha and Babe,
I wish we got John On. But you think about
now modern day fame. Most of these people becoming actors
have a following. Most people who get now these musical deals,
whether it's with Sony or any of these big companies,
Warner Brothers, Rob, they just have a following. They're not
even talented anymore.

No, I would add Alex that someone Proble is purchased.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
Yeah, and that's the other thing. Two people are falling
for that. Oh they got a three million followers. You
don't even know how many of those people are real?
You know, like there's a ton of people.
Speaker 5 (29:09):
Man, that's to you. It's called farming rock. There's people
who will pay. So let's say you pay me. Let's
say let's say me and you start a record label,
and we want to sign Alex. We want to make
Alex hot. So we pay a farmer, uh, and we'll
pay them ten thousand dollars to get a million likes
on something, a million or a million following, right, and
what they do is a million better better. He had
(29:30):
a million views on his video on YouTube. So we
can go to these labels, bigger labels and say, hey,
we got We're.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
Gonna follow them, right what they do?
Speaker 5 (29:36):
State the vice followed. Vice went to this kid. He
had a mask on his shoulder. He has an apartment
with literally like one hundred phones and they're just streaming, streaming, streaming,
stream stream tree. So each one might get up to
ten thousand streams.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
And this was it over a month. And you know
what I mean.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
And so now we get up to a million views
and you pay me ten thousand, you get a million
views me and you cannot walk into a label. You know,
we got this hot kid Alex. He's blowing up in
the streets. He got a million views on YouTube, y'all
to sign us a sign that's crop. But that's crazy
to think about this. That's a guy in his house.
Imagine having Warner Brothers or Sony's backing, and you have

millions of phones to do it. Takashi six', nine before
his whole falled out and, everything when he signed with fifty,
cent he literally on game on an interview, said, listen
you see these five credit. Cards this bought me my
first platinum. LABEL i bought my, PLAYS i hits and
people that good. Documentary his documentary was good as far
as understanding all. This but that's some talented, people. Man

and SO i just it's interesting just where we are
now with like yeah and the three.
