I know earlier we talked about the fouls and how
the game would be officiated. This game started, the Knicks
had five fouls to the Spurs. One that was right
on how they're calling this game.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Because I've been covering this league for a long time,
I know how it plays out, you know what I mean,
especially for the road team.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
As I'm looking now, Louke Cornett just bumped brunts in,
so like there's physicality. It's going to be interesting how
they call this game and how it shakes out. But
you can already see it affecting the way some of
these guys are defending and how they're playing.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
So yeah, we got an interesting one here.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
But the Spurs have a look on their faces, like
a nasty look, like we're.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Not going quietly. Right, this is our house.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
They know it, like, this is the game, this is
the Seriously, you cannot You can lose, go down two
on the road, you know what I mean, and then
come back and win your two home games and change
things like that. But but to lose the first two
at home and then have to win four out of five,
that's just just a tall order, you know what I mean.
It's just a real tall order. So I don't think
that that's something that the Spurs can look at and

think they can get away with.

We got a little NFL news today basically Rob g
the NFL and the Bears. We're hearing news about their
new stadium. Yeah, not the kind of news you want though,
if you're a Bears fan. Let me tell you that
right now.

Now, as you guys know, they've been trying to get
a new stadium for years now, for years. They don't
like Soldier Field.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Jeez, have you ever been to Soldier Field? Yes, sir,
I have, okay, you know, and they put the spaceship
covering over it and all that, they've remodeled it, they've
done things.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
It's right down on the water. Then they don't like
it though.
Speaker 6 (03:31):
They don't like it. They don't like it.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
And so they've been trying to get a new stamum
in Arlington, trying to get a new stadum downtown, trying
to get new stadium.

Here, all over the place.

Well, on Thursday, the Bears Board of Directors voted to
advance a stateum development. Not in Chicago, not even in
the great state of Illinois. Instead, they want to cross
the border into Hammond, Indiana. And the anticipation is, barring
something really unforeseen, Goo Bears will eventually play their home

games in a different state.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Here we go.

We already saw the Kansas City Chiefs. Where did they go?
They went to Kansas right. They got a new stadium
coming in Kansas, Kansas City, Kansas right, not Kansas City, Missouri.
There are two they're going across to get their new stadium.
And now here comes to Bears. And I'm gonna say

this to you, Keith, and I believe this, and you're
the perfect person to have on this. Being a kid
who grew up in New Jersey and with the two
football teams in New York, I think the Bears have
all right if they want to move to Indiana. Go ahead,
move to Indiana, Go get the stadium you want, do

whatever you want, But you can't take Chicago with you.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
You can't take Chicago Keith Chicago Stays.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Change your name to the Hammond Bears, change your name
to the Indiana Bears, whatever you want.

To change it, you can't reap the benefits of being
called Chicago and playing in ham and Indiana once you
cross state lines. I've always said, as a kid who
grew up in Queens that the Jets and Giants should
have taken They should have been the Jersey Jets, they

should have been the New Jersey Giants. As somebody who
grew up in New Jersey, like the nets, I covered
the New Jersey nets.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
They played in New Jersey. Where do you feel? Where
are you on this?
Speaker 1 (05:39):
And is it disrespectful to the taxpayers in Indiana putting
up the freight for this big, brand new stadium and
you don't even want to be identified with the place
where you're playing.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
Yeah, let's go from New Jersey to Indiana to Chicago.
First off, being in Jersey as a kid, I remember
playing Madden. I remember playing in a video game and
they're coming into East Rutherford, New Jersey. And as a kid,
I'm like, why they don't rep us? There's two teams,
neither one could be New Jersey. I ended up being
a Dallas Cowboys fan anyway, so it bumps, well it.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
So it bothered you, am, I right, didn't you? You
just it was odd. I didn't know geography yet.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
I didn't even know where Dallas was I didn't realize
it was all the way in Texas. But hey, I
don't have to rep them. There's no pride in repping
the New York Giants the New York Jets. They play
in Jersey, but they don't claim us. Nah. I wasn't
going that way. Nobody told me to go that way.
And now you here forever. All of the people that
have to come from Long Island to go see the
Giants or Jets over there complain about going to those games,
(06:39):
and when they're not good, that stadium is empty.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Whatever.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
You'll see how much of a mess it will be
when FIFA comes to New York, New Jersey Stadium for
the World Cup.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Let's go to Indiana.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Now, I've only been to Indiana one time, when I
was staying in Chicago for ten days.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
With my homie and we got bored and we wanted
to go to the casino.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
There's a casino out there called the Horseshoe, Lucky Horseshoe Casino.
I won five hundred dollars. I left, and that's all
I know about Indiana. Maybe they're trying to get closer
to Bloomington to get that Hoosiers luck after they won
the national championship.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
I'm one hundred percent right there with you.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
You cannot make them the Chicago Bears by way of Indiana.
They cannot be the Indiana Chicago Bears. The thing about
Soldier Field and the Chicago Bears and all that history
and them playing outdoors on grass in that area of
Chicago where they play is exactly that.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
It's windy over there. It's right by the water over there.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
The one time I went there, you can tailgate right
out there in the parking lot. You come in, you
see the historic stuff. Like they gotta revamp that place.
They gotta figure something out with that. Chicago is a
city that is steeped in tradition. They don't think that
they're the second city to New York. They love their
sports teams from the Chicago Bulls to the Blackhawks to
the Chicago Cubs. Some people like the White Sox moving

the Chicago Bears with Caleb Williams to Indiana. I don't
care how great the stadium is. I think that's an
l I don't think that's the right move.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Yeah, I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
There are certain places that I don't think people are
going to buy into. And it's not like the Clippers
new arena is in Inglewood's. That's La proper, you know
what I mean, it's La proper. I'm talking about going
to another state. Could you if the Lakers the Lakers
move to uh, I don't know, New Mexico, could they
still be the Los Angeles Lakers? Or what would be
(08:25):
the closest rob GD could just go over the state Arizona, Nevada,
you know what I mean, or something that's close to California,
close to the area.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
I don't know. It just feels weird.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
And if I'm the governor, or I'm the mayor of
Chicago or whatever it is, you know, when you go,
you can't take Chicago with you. We won't allow it
to happen because you want the juice of it and
you want it. The history of it and Chicago sounds better.
That's what the Giants and the Jets have done.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
You know that. Why is it called Why are.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
The Angels who were in Anahei, who are in Anaheim
call themselves the Los Angeles Angels?
Speaker 2 (09:06):
You know why?

Because there's more cashet with Los Angeles being included in
that marketplace, even though they are forty miles away in Anaheim,
and Anaheim has its own city, and Anaheim is a
fine place in Orange County, but they still decided from
a marketing standpoint, that is Los Angeles because that's what

they want to be in there. Rob G you're a
football fan, you you were into the football. Would it
bother you if the Bears were still Chicago? Would it
bother me if they moved to Indiana and they kept
the name Chicago Bears? Yeah, it's stupid. It insults my intelligence.
It's it's now the Giants and the Jets get away

with it because you say, hey, we're a hop's keeping
a jump.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Away and it's what is it eleven miles or seven miles?
It's it's close.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
And also, they can't build that type of complex in Manhattan, right,
They can't build that type of stadium in the city, and.

So that one gets a little bit of a pass.

But when you have a situation like Chicago, where they
already have a stadium there, what they're doing is they're
just being greedy.

And they don't want to pay for it themselves.

They want the taxpayers to pay for this and someone
else to pay for that, and we just collect all
the money by hosting the venue there.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
And so for them to do this kind of.

Thing, and by all accounts it's going to happen, is
just a matter of where exactly.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
I can't. It's just crazy Chicago, of all places. I just.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
And you know the other thing is is Chicago historically
you go and watch their games, cold weather, physical football.
Speaker 6 (10:43):
That's part of what it is.
Speaker 5 (10:45):
One of the plans that they've had are all the
plans they've had so far that we're in Illinois and
now this one in Indiana, all domes, right, how does
that gonna make you feel?
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Rob It's another one as somebody who's cover games that
Soldier Field for a long time. You know, I've been
in the league since nineteen eighty seven, the NFL, and
to go to all these different stadiums and seeing what
we're doing. It's like the people of Kansas City too,
You don't think they feel like, like, what do we do?
All we do is sell out the place every week? Right,
(11:16):
all every game? We sold out the place. We did everything,
and it wasn't enough. Not only are you making a
gazillion dollars, you want us to pay for your stadium
and have it come out of our pockets. So they
ditch the people of Kansas City, Missouri to go to
Kansas and now here we are in Chicago. Why are
we here? Go if you want, you can go in

a free country. I'm not mad. If they want to.
They they got they got a sweet art deal. They
got a better deal. They want to go to hamm
in Indiana. Fine, but you should be the Hammon Bears,
the ham and Cheese Bears, that's what they should be called.

The ham and hot Dogs. That dogs are big out
there in Chicago. They like their brats.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
They're all that. But ain't no way.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Should you get the opportunity to be able to use
Chicago and use that as a flex. Chicago's a major
city in this country, right, there's something that goes with.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Chicago, even in that division.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
Rob you think about it they put a dome on
that stadium in Indiana, the Lions play indoors, the Vikings
play indoors.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
It'll just be Green Bay outside.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
So that cold dynamic of you got to go there
to the frozen tundra and play in the elements. In
the later months into the playoffs, you know, we're gonna
start to see that eliminated. And I know there's a
narrative around that too, Like we saw that game with
the Denver Broncos and how that was affected by snow.
But like that's fun for us as fans, but the
NFL probably doesn't really want that product.

They want them to play.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
You know, in an area that the elements can't affect
the football and what you know, plays are run and.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Stuff like that. But I'm I'm stuck on this.

If you go to Indiana, b Indiana, whatever, rebrand right,
the Commanders exist, change your name to whatever it's gonna be.
That is Chicago Soldier Field historic if.

You leave that area, and even you know how it is.

When the Baltimore Colts left and went to Indianapolis, right,
they didn't call themselves the Baltimore Colts.

just something about what is it Lake Shore Drive and
driving up there in Chicago and going to that stadium.

It's an iconic place. It's like Rigly, it's like Fenway,

And then the unique angle as a division rival fan.

the Green Bay Packers, the only publicly owned team. They
could never move that franchise. We wouldn't allow it. They

hard to find. I'm just doing a lot of different

I've done this like six or seven times. Yes, yes,

I'll just say this, okay, Keith is one of the
best in the West, so he's best in the East.
So I'll just say he's even best in Canada. But
by the way, you know, the original Chicago Bears were
called the eight the Decatur Stanley's after a E. Stanley
Food Company, and George Hollis bought the team in nineteen

twenty one and owned it until eighty th reason I
know that is was when I was in university. I
love the Bears. My cousins are from Chicago, and it
was Bears Bears, that Bears, the Bears, the Bears. But
you know, you had refrigerator, you had Perry, and you
had the greatest of the greatest. When they won the world,
the World Championship or whatever you guys call it down

the States, we have the Great Cup up here, I
guess you know I would be sad to see them
go to I would say, maybe let's call them the
French Lick Indiana Bears, or let's say the French kiss
Chicago Bears. You know, like, let's give them a little
bit at possessed. No I'm not, I'm being serious, but.

All right, let's start in New York with Judge and
you know the Yankees are a different team when he's
not in the lineup and and whatnot. And it looks
like it's going to be almost two months or at
least six weeks or two months.

How devastating is this? Can the Yankee survive?
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Now? They got pitching, Bob, but offensively, uh, the Yankees
wan't the same with I'll judge in the lineup.
Speaker 11 (24:20):
No, it's a huge blow, but you know, hopefully Stanton
comes back, you know, soon in the lineup. But that's
what good teams do that survive injuries. That's what you
know the Dodgers do year after year. Uh. You know,
when guys go down, whether it's their pitchers or Mookie Betts,
they're able to withstand that. So I think the Yankees
are deep enough to survive it. And not saying you
(24:43):
know that he's got to come back at some point
because you need him down down the stretch right uh,
in the postseason. But I think they're good enough to
withstand that just because they, like you mentioned, the pitching
is so good and at some point Max Freeze coming
back too. So I still like the Yankees to win
the America.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
I was going to ask you about that.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
The pitching when you look at their top three, I'm
not even counting Rodin.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
It's pretty impressive.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
You go into a playoff series, Bob, with those guys,
because Freed has been outstanding since he came to New York.
Speaker 11 (25:15):
Yeah, everything they wanted to be with the injuries, but yeah,
they're they're they're loaded, and hey, if Scooba becomes available,
they'll be riding on him too. And can you mention
that rotation or you put Scooba in there, match that
team up against anybody went through four in rotation and
that's that wins in the postseason.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
Hey, Bob, let's stay here in New York on the
other side of town. I'm not worried about the Yankees,
but I've been worried about the Mets for a long time.
This is a New York mess. What do you think
about them having a fire sale and selling off. It
seems like they're so stubborn in their ways. They won't
fire Mendoza, they won't even start to talk about the
trade deadline.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
But I think it's done.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
I mean, they're holding on to being six games out
of the Wildcard and it still being any man's race.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
But I just look at this as a mess.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
They got to make more changes after they just made
a bunch of changes this off season.
Speaker 11 (26:03):
Yeah, I think the delusion that they think it's gonna
get back in the race, it's over.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (26:07):
You know, there's a lot of guys that people don't want.
They can trade Freddie perraulta but you know there's a
lot of guys, you know, with the big many contracts
and stuff, they're unmovable. I mean, you're not trading you know,
they're not trading semi in, they're not uh training Lindor
you know, so they're not trading Soto. So I just
think they have to regroup and see what happens in
the off season. And they were almost like in a
(26:29):
chemistry lab, just throwing a bunch of stuff together and nothing,
nothing worked. Uh, you know, I didn't mind that much
about Alonso, Like, Okay, if you want, if you don't
believe he can do it for five years, that's fine,
but not to get with, you know, planco replace them.
I mean, here's you know, the one thing about Alonso
is he played every day. So Alonso's already missed more
(26:50):
games than two months Alonso did his entire Met's career.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Yeah, he was always available and could play in New York.
He was he was a special guy to be able
to and then hit some big home runs in New
York as well. Let me ask you we Keith brought up.
Mendoza is still around. But the Phillies took the opposite approach.
If they had a manager that got them to a
World Series, Bob, they got off to a bad start.
(27:13):
Rob Thompson's fired, Don Mattally comes in and saved their season.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
They're playing much better baseball.
Speaker 11 (27:21):
I think different since they knew the Phillies were salvageable
and you know, let's you know, medically and Rob Thompson
are about the same guys, the same personnel and everything else.
I think they would have eventually turned around under Thompson.
I think what this was just a wake up call
to the players like, hey, you just got a good
guy fired, you feel good about yourselves? What you can
do about it? And then responded. I think in the
(27:42):
Met's case, I think they already know privately is a
lost cause, Like you're bringing our manager in. Nothing changes, Oh,
that's filelight right now is in the front office. So
then people are looking at David Stearns, so now you
can let Mendoza, you know, staying out there and be
the scapegoat while everybody upstairs can can sit back and
not taking a heat.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
So sticking with you know, David stens and and good managers.
How about Pat Murphy out there in Milwaukee with the Brewers.
What's the secret to the success over there? Like they're
better without Sterens Uh. You know, I'm looking at this
team again. They've got a bunch of you know, young
guys and random guys over there. They don't have big
money guys over there, but they consistently win. What is
it that they do consistently to stay at the top
(28:24):
of the division and now the National League?
Speaker 11 (28:27):
They had such a smart, fun office and just do
things right. I mean every single year, every the Roles
picking the Cubs to win it, every single year, the Mets,
I mean, the Brewers on one is laughing last Uh,
you know a lot of no name guys, and they
just fleeshed the Red Sox for for Harrison, I mean,
Giants gave up on them. Red Sox gave up on them.
And here's Calvin Harrison about a one to five e
(28:49):
r A they and they get they play the game hard,
they play it right. I think Pat Murphy is the
only manager in baseball that can call guys out in
the paper. They can pull you can pull guys from
the games in Uh. He's old school. I mean now,
I think there's a lot of coaches, managers, you know,
afraid upset their players the same thing. Murphy's not afray
(29:10):
at all, Like you better play the game right, or
you're not playing with the Brewers.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
But the only problem I have, and I you know,
I'm not going to give the Brewers a parade because
every year they have a good team and they don't
play well in the postseason or they choke or they
you know what I mean, Like they've had a lot
of plunders in the postseason. Are they good enough for
the regular season but they can't win a playoff series?
Speaker 11 (29:34):
Yeah, I just don't think they had that talent. I
mean last year, for instance, Rob but you know, went
up there for the after the Dodgers series, figuring Dodgers
will play the Brewers next. I watch the game five
the Brewers Cubs. That was their deciding game, and the
Brewers went absolutely wild. That was like that was a
world series, right, And they say.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
But they couldn't hit against the Dodgers. You remember that
they couldn't they couldn't hit. It was it was unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (30:01):
No, I just think they had nothing left and drillinge
wise and motion wise. They're not talented. That's the problem
with the Brewers. That's what I'd love to see if
scoopl is available, love for them to you know, go out,
get a school, do something dramatic here to give him
a chance and get to uh, you know, the Rules Series,
and I just you know, have him any parade every
time to make the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
Like they like they did when they got CECI. You
remember that, go do the same kind of thing. CEC
came there and led them to the to the playoffs.
Speaker 11 (30:30):
Yeah, first the first time in twenty six years. And
uh he changed the whole culture there after. CC did
that and went to what eleven and two in uh
you know they maybe there are two games away for
the World Series. Three years later now they're a juggernaut.
But yeah, because of that trade at CC trade, even
though he's only there for half a season, completely change
(30:51):
the culture their whole organization.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Keith, you got one last question for Bob.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
Yeah, sure, Otani is the greatest thing ever in baseball,
and the Dodgers are going to just win their third
World Series in a row. We shouldn't even watch the
rest of the way, right Bob, It's already locked up.

The thing is is like, you know two years ago
that the Pottery should have beat the Dodgers. The Pottery choked.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
They absolutely choked. I want to choke. Job that was.

Yeah, up, two games of one, they're having a bullpen game.
They don't have Freddie Freeman and in our score a
run for the next two games. Philadelphia, remember the year
were there Robert Dodgers Stadium last year? He throws the
ball away the eleventh inning. They had have played Game
five and Philly in the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays choked.
I mean, they had that.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
World so all they needed was that one fly ball.
They had like nine chances to win the World Series
at least.
Speaker 11 (31:40):
Yeah, I know, those people in Ken are just so heartbroken.
I mean, then all got to just put the ball
in play. And even after Rojas's home run, you know,
the Associated went about the night. So yeah, I mean,
uh yeah, Dodge are a good team. They'd be back
in the postseason again. But you know, they got some flaws,
they're beatable, and we'll see what happens. You know, I think,

I do think of the Doggers went out and got school,
But I think the baseball world would just go ballistic.

the game would be officiated. This game started, the Knicks
had five fouls to the Spurs. One that was right
on how they're calling this game.

Because I've been covering this league for a long time,
I know how it plays out, you know what I mean,
especially for the road team.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
As I'm looking now, Louke Cornett just bumped brunts in,
so like there's physicality. It's going to be interesting how
they call this game and how it shakes out. But
you can already see it affecting the way some of
these guys are defending and how they're playing.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
So yeah, we got an interesting one here.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
But the Spurs have a look on their faces, like
a nasty look, like we're.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Not going quietly. Right, this is our house.

They know it, like, this is the game, this is
the Seriously, you cannot You can lose, go down two
on the road, you know what I mean, and then
come back and win your two home games and change
things like that. But but to lose the first two
at home and then have to win four out of five,
that's just just a tall order, you know what I mean.
It's just a real tall order. So I don't think
that that's something that the Spurs can look at and

think they can get away with.

We got a little NFL news today basically Rob g
the NFL and the Bears. We're hearing news about their
new stadium. Yeah, not the kind of news you want though,
if you're a Bears fan. Let me tell you that
right now.

Now, as you guys know, they've been trying to get
a new stadium for years now, for years. They don't
like Soldier Field.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Jeez, have you ever been to Soldier Field? Yes, sir,
I have, okay, you know, and they put the spaceship
covering over it and all that, they've remodeled it, they've
done things.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
It's right down on the water. Then they don't like
it though.
Speaker 6 (03:31):
They don't like it. They don't like it.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
And so they've been trying to get a new stamum
in Arlington, trying to get a new stadum downtown, trying
to get new stadium.

Here, all over the place.

Well, on Thursday, the Bears Board of Directors voted to
advance a stateum development. Not in Chicago, not even in
the great state of Illinois. Instead, they want to cross
the border into Hammond, Indiana. And the anticipation is, barring
something really unforeseen, Goo Bears will eventually play their home
(04:02):
games in a different state.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Here we go.

We already saw the Kansas City Chiefs. Where did they go?
They went to Kansas right. They got a new stadium
coming in Kansas, Kansas City, Kansas right, not Kansas City, Missouri.
There are two they're going across to get their new stadium.
And now here comes to Bears. And I'm gonna say

this to you, Keith, and I believe this, and you're
the perfect person to have on this. Being a kid
who grew up in New Jersey and with the two
football teams in New York, I think the Bears have
all right if they want to move to Indiana. Go ahead,
move to Indiana, Go get the stadium you want, do

whatever you want, But you can't take Chicago with you.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
You can't take Chicago Keith Chicago Stays.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Change your name to the Hammond Bears, change your name
to the Indiana Bears, whatever you want.

To change it, you can't reap the benefits of being
called Chicago and playing in ham and Indiana once you
cross state lines. I've always said, as a kid who
grew up in Queens that the Jets and Giants should
have taken They should have been the Jersey Jets, they

should have been the New Jersey Giants. As somebody who
grew up in New Jersey, like the nets, I covered
the New Jersey nets.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
They played in New Jersey. Where do you feel? Where
are you on this?
Speaker 1 (05:39):
And is it disrespectful to the taxpayers in Indiana putting
up the freight for this big, brand new stadium and
you don't even want to be identified with the place
where you're playing.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
Yeah, let's go from New Jersey to Indiana to Chicago.
First off, being in Jersey as a kid, I remember
playing Madden. I remember playing in a video game and
they're coming into East Rutherford, New Jersey. And as a kid,
I'm like, why they don't rep us? There's two teams,
neither one could be New Jersey. I ended up being
a Dallas Cowboys fan anyway, so it bumps, well it.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
So it bothered you, am, I right, didn't you? You
just it was odd. I didn't know geography yet.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
I didn't even know where Dallas was I didn't realize
it was all the way in Texas. But hey, I
don't have to rep them. There's no pride in repping
the New York Giants the New York Jets. They play
in Jersey, but they don't claim us. Nah. I wasn't
going that way. Nobody told me to go that way.
And now you here forever. All of the people that
have to come from Long Island to go see the
Giants or Jets over there complain about going to those games,
(06:39):
and when they're not good, that stadium is empty.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Whatever.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
You'll see how much of a mess it will be
when FIFA comes to New York, New Jersey Stadium for
the World Cup.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Let's go to Indiana.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Now, I've only been to Indiana one time, when I
was staying in Chicago for ten days.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
With my homie and we got bored and we wanted
to go to the casino.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
There's a casino out there called the Horseshoe, Lucky Horseshoe Casino.
I won five hundred dollars. I left, and that's all
I know about Indiana. Maybe they're trying to get closer
to Bloomington to get that Hoosiers luck after they won
the national championship.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
I'm one hundred percent right there with you.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
You cannot make them the Chicago Bears by way of Indiana.
They cannot be the Indiana Chicago Bears. The thing about
Soldier Field and the Chicago Bears and all that history
and them playing outdoors on grass in that area of
Chicago where they play is exactly that.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
It's windy over there. It's right by the water over there.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
The one time I went there, you can tailgate right
out there in the parking lot. You come in, you
see the historic stuff. Like they gotta revamp that place.
They gotta figure something out with that. Chicago is a
city that is steeped in tradition. They don't think that
they're the second city to New York. They love their
sports teams from the Chicago Bulls to the Blackhawks to
the Chicago Cubs. Some people like the White Sox moving
(07:54):
the Chicago Bears with Caleb Williams to Indiana. I don't
care how great the stadium is. I think that's an
l I don't think that's the right move.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Yeah, I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
There are certain places that I don't think people are
going to buy into. And it's not like the Clippers
new arena is in Inglewood's. That's La proper, you know
what I mean, it's La proper. I'm talking about going
to another state. Could you if the Lakers the Lakers
move to uh, I don't know, New Mexico, could they
still be the Los Angeles Lakers? Or what would be
(08:25):
the closest rob GD could just go over the state Arizona, Nevada,
you know what I mean, or something that's close to California,
close to the area.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
I don't know. It just feels weird.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
And if I'm the governor, or I'm the mayor of
Chicago or whatever it is, you know, when you go,
you can't take Chicago with you. We won't allow it
to happen because you want the juice of it and
you want it. The history of it and Chicago sounds better.
That's what the Giants and the Jets have done.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
You know that. Why is it called Why are.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
The Angels who were in Anahei, who are in Anaheim
call themselves the Los Angeles Angels?
Speaker 2 (09:06):
You know why?
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Because there's more cashet with Los Angeles being included in
that marketplace, even though they are forty miles away in Anaheim,
and Anaheim has its own city, and Anaheim is a
fine place in Orange County, but they still decided from
a marketing standpoint, that is Los Angeles because that's what

they want to be in there. Rob G you're a
football fan, you you were into the football. Would it
bother you if the Bears were still Chicago? Would it
bother me if they moved to Indiana and they kept
the name Chicago Bears? Yeah, it's stupid. It insults my intelligence.
It's it's now the Giants and the Jets get away
(09:50):
with it because you say, hey, we're a hop's keeping
a jump.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Away and it's what is it eleven miles or seven miles?
It's it's close.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
And also, they can't build that type of complex in Manhattan, right,
They can't build that type of stadium in the city, and.
Speaker 6 (10:02):
So that one gets a little bit of a pass.

But when you have a situation like Chicago, where they
already have a stadium there, what they're doing is they're
just being greedy.
Speaker 6 (10:12):
And they don't want to pay for it themselves.

They want the taxpayers to pay for this and someone
else to pay for that, and we just collect all
the money by hosting the venue there.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
And so for them to do this kind of.

Thing, and by all accounts it's going to happen, is
just a matter of where exactly.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
I can't. It's just crazy Chicago, of all places. I just.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
And you know the other thing is is Chicago historically
you go and watch their games, cold weather, physical football.
Speaker 6 (10:43):
That's part of what it is.
Speaker 5 (10:45):
One of the plans that they've had are all the
plans they've had so far that we're in Illinois and
now this one in Indiana, all domes, right, how does
that gonna make you feel?
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Rob It's another one as somebody who's cover games that
Soldier Field for a long time. You know, I've been
in the league since nineteen eighty seven, the NFL, and
to go to all these different stadiums and seeing what
we're doing. It's like the people of Kansas City too,
You don't think they feel like, like, what do we do?
All we do is sell out the place every week? Right,
(11:16):
all every game? We sold out the place. We did everything,
and it wasn't enough. Not only are you making a
gazillion dollars, you want us to pay for your stadium
and have it come out of our pockets. So they
ditch the people of Kansas City, Missouri to go to
Kansas and now here we are in Chicago. Why are
we here? Go if you want, you can go in
(11:38):
a free country. I'm not mad. If they want to.
They they got they got a sweet art deal. They
got a better deal. They want to go to hamm
in Indiana. Fine, but you should be the Hammon Bears,
the ham and Cheese Bears, that's what they should be called.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
The ham and hot Dogs. That dogs are big out
there in Chicago. They like their brats.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
They're all that. But ain't no way.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Should you get the opportunity to be able to use
Chicago and use that as a flex. Chicago's a major
city in this country, right, there's something that goes with.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Chicago, even in that division.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
Rob you think about it they put a dome on
that stadium in Indiana, the Lions play indoors, the Vikings
play indoors.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
It'll just be Green Bay outside.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
So that cold dynamic of you got to go there
to the frozen tundra and play in the elements. In
the later months into the playoffs, you know, we're gonna
start to see that eliminated. And I know there's a
narrative around that too, Like we saw that game with
the Denver Broncos and how that was affected by snow.
But like that's fun for us as fans, but the
NFL probably doesn't really want that product.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
They want them to play.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
You know, in an area that the elements can't affect
the football and what you know, plays are run and.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Stuff like that. But I'm I'm stuck on this.

If you go to Indiana, b Indiana, whatever, rebrand right,
the Commanders exist, change your name to whatever it's gonna be.
That is Chicago Soldier Field historic if.

You leave that area, and even you know how it is.

When the Baltimore Colts left and went to Indianapolis, right,
they didn't call themselves the Baltimore Colts.

The Ravens became. Yeah, the Ravens became and yeah, there's
just something about what is it Lake Shore Drive and
driving up there in Chicago and going to that stadium.

It's part of the experience.

we're in the Chicago Bears TV market and I got
to see Jill Sayers and Dick Buckis were fantastic in
the sixties. I mean, the best offense and the defensive
players in the game at that time. And yeah, I
don't I don't want to see them move Soldiers Field.
It's an iconic place. It's like Rigly, it's like Fenway,

It's like old Yankee Stadium. They're deserting the people of Chicago,

get all that cachet is Chicago if you're not located there.
And then the unique angle as a division rival fan.
I got to give a shout out to my team,
the Green Bay Packers, the only publicly owned team. They
could never move that franchise. We wouldn't allow it. They
need our permission. So I wish more teams were were
that way. We're the only one and the NFL won't

I'll just say this, okay, Keith is one of the
best in the West, so he's best in the East.
So I'll just say he's even best in Canada. But
by the way, you know, the original Chicago Bears were
called the eight the Decatur Stanley's after a E. Stanley
Food Company, and George Hollis bought the team in nineteen

twenty one and owned it until eighty th reason I
know that is was when I was in university. I
love the Bears. My cousins are from Chicago, and it
was Bears Bears, that Bears, the Bears, the Bears. But
you know, you had refrigerator, you had Perry, and you
had the greatest of the greatest. When they won the world,
the World Championship or whatever you guys call it down

the States, we have the Great Cup up here, I
guess you know I would be sad to see them
go to I would say, maybe let's call them the
French Lick Indiana Bears, or let's say the French kiss
Chicago Bears. You know, like, let's give them a little
bit at possessed. No I'm not, I'm being serious, but.

Brendan Johnson. If you're gonna keep a franchise in Chicago,

But now let's switch over to baseball and one of
the best in the business, my buddy, of course, Bob Nightingale,
baseball columnist for USA Today.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
Hey?
Speaker 11 (23:56):
Don't good? Don't good?
Speaker 1 (23:57):
All right, let's start in New York with Judge and
you know the Yankees are a different team when he's
not in the lineup and and whatnot. And it looks
like it's going to be almost two months or at
least six weeks or two months.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
How devastating is this? Can the Yankee survive?
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Now? They got pitching, Bob, but offensively, uh, the Yankees
wan't the same with I'll judge in the lineup.
Speaker 11 (24:20):
No, it's a huge blow, but you know, hopefully Stanton
comes back, you know, soon in the lineup. But that's
what good teams do that survive injuries. That's what you
know the Dodgers do year after year. Uh. You know,
when guys go down, whether it's their pitchers or Mookie Betts,
they're able to withstand that. So I think the Yankees
are deep enough to survive it. And not saying you
(24:43):
know that he's got to come back at some point
because you need him down down the stretch right uh,
in the postseason. But I think they're good enough to
withstand that just because they, like you mentioned, the pitching
is so good and at some point Max Freeze coming
back too. So I still like the Yankees to win
the America.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
I was going to ask you about that.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
The pitching when you look at their top three, I'm
not even counting Rodin.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
It's pretty impressive.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
You go into a playoff series, Bob, with those guys,
because Freed has been outstanding since he came to New York.
Speaker 11 (25:15):
Yeah, everything they wanted to be with the injuries, but yeah,
they're they're they're loaded, and hey, if Scooba becomes available,
they'll be riding on him too. And can you mention
that rotation or you put Scooba in there, match that
team up against anybody went through four in rotation and
that's that wins in the postseason.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
Hey, Bob, let's stay here in New York on the
other side of town. I'm not worried about the Yankees,
but I've been worried about the Mets for a long time.
This is a New York mess. What do you think
about them having a fire sale and selling off. It
seems like they're so stubborn in their ways. They won't
fire Mendoza, they won't even start to talk about the
trade deadline.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
But I think it's done.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
I mean, they're holding on to being six games out
of the Wildcard and it still being any man's race.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
But I just look at this as a mess.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
They got to make more changes after they just made
a bunch of changes this off season.
Speaker 11 (26:03):
Yeah, I think the delusion that they think it's gonna
get back in the race, it's over.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (26:07):
You know, there's a lot of guys that people don't want.
They can trade Freddie perraulta but you know there's a
lot of guys, you know, with the big many contracts
and stuff, they're unmovable. I mean, you're not trading you know,
they're not trading semi in, they're not uh training Lindor
you know, so they're not trading Soto. So I just
think they have to regroup and see what happens in
the off season. And they were almost like in a
(26:29):
chemistry lab, just throwing a bunch of stuff together and nothing,
nothing worked. Uh, you know, I didn't mind that much
about Alonso, Like, Okay, if you want, if you don't
believe he can do it for five years, that's fine,
but not to get with, you know, planco replace them.
I mean, here's you know, the one thing about Alonso
is he played every day. So Alonso's already missed more
(26:50):
games than two months Alonso did his entire Met's career.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Yeah, he was always available and could play in New York.
He was he was a special guy to be able
to and then hit some big home runs in New
York as well. Let me ask you we Keith brought up.
Mendoza is still around. But the Phillies took the opposite approach.
If they had a manager that got them to a
World Series, Bob, they got off to a bad start.
(27:13):
Rob Thompson's fired, Don Mattally comes in and saved their season.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
They're playing much better baseball.
Speaker 11 (27:21):
I think different since they knew the Phillies were salvageable
and you know, let's you know, medically and Rob Thompson
are about the same guys, the same personnel and everything else.
I think they would have eventually turned around under Thompson.
I think what this was just a wake up call
to the players like, hey, you just got a good
guy fired, you feel good about yourselves? What you can
do about it? And then responded. I think in the
(27:42):
Met's case, I think they already know privately is a
lost cause, Like you're bringing our manager in. Nothing changes, Oh,
that's filelight right now is in the front office. So
then people are looking at David Stearns, so now you
can let Mendoza, you know, staying out there and be
the scapegoat while everybody upstairs can can sit back and
not taking a heat.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
So sticking with you know, David stens and and good managers.
How about Pat Murphy out there in Milwaukee with the Brewers.
What's the secret to the success over there? Like they're
better without Sterens Uh. You know, I'm looking at this
team again. They've got a bunch of you know, young
guys and random guys over there. They don't have big
money guys over there, but they consistently win. What is
it that they do consistently to stay at the top
(28:24):
of the division and now the National League?
Speaker 11 (28:27):
They had such a smart, fun office and just do
things right. I mean every single year, every the Roles
picking the Cubs to win it, every single year, the Mets,
I mean, the Brewers on one is laughing last Uh,
you know a lot of no name guys, and they
just fleeshed the Red Sox for for Harrison, I mean,
Giants gave up on them. Red Sox gave up on them.
And here's Calvin Harrison about a one to five e
(28:49):
r A they and they get they play the game hard,
they play it right. I think Pat Murphy is the
only manager in baseball that can call guys out in
the paper. They can pull you can pull guys from
the games in Uh. He's old school. I mean now,
I think there's a lot of coaches, managers, you know,
afraid upset their players the same thing. Murphy's not afray
(29:10):
at all, Like you better play the game right, or
you're not playing with the Brewers.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
But the only problem I have, and I you know,
I'm not going to give the Brewers a parade because
every year they have a good team and they don't
play well in the postseason or they choke or they
you know what I mean, Like they've had a lot
of plunders in the postseason. Are they good enough for
the regular season but they can't win a playoff series?
Speaker 11 (29:34):
Yeah, I just don't think they had that talent. I
mean last year, for instance, Rob but you know, went
up there for the after the Dodgers series, figuring Dodgers
will play the Brewers next. I watch the game five
the Brewers Cubs. That was their deciding game, and the
Brewers went absolutely wild. That was like that was a
world series, right, And they say.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
But they couldn't hit against the Dodgers. You remember that
they couldn't they couldn't hit. It was it was unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (30:01):
No, I just think they had nothing left and drillinge
wise and motion wise. They're not talented. That's the problem
with the Brewers. That's what I'd love to see if
scoopl is available, love for them to you know, go out,
get a school, do something dramatic here to give him
a chance and get to uh, you know, the Rules Series,
and I just you know, have him any parade every
time to make the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
Like they like they did when they got CECI. You
remember that, go do the same kind of thing. CEC
came there and led them to the to the playoffs.
Speaker 11 (30:30):
Yeah, first the first time in twenty six years. And
uh he changed the whole culture there after. CC did
that and went to what eleven and two in uh
you know they maybe there are two games away for
the World Series. Three years later now they're a juggernaut.
But yeah, because of that trade at CC trade, even
though he's only there for half a season, completely change
(30:51):
the culture their whole organization.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Keith, you got one last question for Bob.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
Yeah, sure, Otani is the greatest thing ever in baseball,
and the Dodgers are going to just win their third
World Series in a row. We shouldn't even watch the
rest of the way, right Bob, It's already locked up.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
You know.
Speaker 11 (31:08):
The thing is is like, you know two years ago
that the Pottery should have beat the Dodgers. The Pottery choked.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
They absolutely choked. I want to choke. Job that was.
Speaker 11 (31:17):
Yeah, up, two games of one, they're having a bullpen game.
They don't have Freddie Freeman and in our score a
run for the next two games. Philadelphia, remember the year
were there Robert Dodgers Stadium last year? He throws the
ball away the eleventh inning. They had have played Game
five and Philly in the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays choked.
I mean, they had that.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
World so all they needed was that one fly ball.
They had like nine chances to win the World Series
at least.
Speaker 11 (31:40):
Yeah, I know, those people in Ken are just so heartbroken.
I mean, then all got to just put the ball
in play. And even after Rojas's home run, you know,
the Associated went about the night. So yeah, I mean,
uh yeah, Dodge are a good team. They'd be back
in the postseason again. But you know, they got some flaws,
they're beatable, and we'll see what happens. You know, I think,
(32:02):
I do think of the Doggers went out and got school,
But I think the baseball world would just go ballistic.
