is because I don't think there's many more well balanced
from you and I get into it where you gonna

LA and I did want to the reason I'm in
New York, and I've mentioned this earlier at the top
of the show, Kelvin is tomorrow I'm gonna be celebrating
my fortieth year of covering Major League Baseball, something I'm
proud of. I'm not gonna have many more years of
doing it, you know, or if I retire like I

think I am. So it's special around number forty nineteen
eighty six is when I started here. We are twenty
twenty six. It's hard to last that long doing anything,
you know what I mean? It just is. And I'm
not patting myself on the back, but I know it's
just longevity, is you know. I'm gonna give you credit.

By the way, are you unk to me? I never
really called you that, but I'm just.

I'll give you credit. Unk is that like one thing

where I think people missed the boat is they get
and you know this, they get locked in like this

the box. I'm good And even if they're very successful,
like this is it, I give you credit because when
I first moved to LA, a lot of people weren't,
in my opinion, do utilizing it, taking full advantage. I'm like, yo,
you don't do this, you don't do that, and you
know how to add too, Like I'm doing TV. I'm
gonna I'm gonna do TV. I'ma still right. Okay, I'm

still right, but I'm gonna do this' And I get
I think that's dope. And that's to me a part
of what happens with longevity. Some people kind of get
stuck in one thing and it could be good at it,
but if it pivots the industry pivots, they don't know
what to do, and then you never hear from them,
and so I was aware of that, and I caught
onto that, and so I've been able to okay music, okay, sports, okay, news, okay, anchoring,

TV radio. And I saw you do that obviously growing
up in Detroit. So I'll give you credit for that
because you kind of had your hands in a few
different pots always. And I think, again, you don't want
to for young people, make sure you first master something.

I always tell them your writing.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Yours was writing, and that's what got you employed, kept
you employed, kept your name out there. Then you jumped
in the radio, TV, so on and so forth. So
I always tell people, don't just try to do everything.
You gotta master something first, so then other opportunities come.
But I saw you do that, you know, growing up
in metro Detroit, and uh and then like I said myself,
I tried, Okay, let me make sure you you know,
be to do this, be able to do that, as

you mastered. For me, it was radio, music, radio, talk radio, sports, radio.
So now I can do a bunch of other things.
But shout out to you, because that's how that's a
formula to me for having forty years.

Longevity. Is you have to be virtutile. You really do.
You have to be able to do other stuff. But
I just want to say so, I'm in New York.
I'm celebrating with my family and friends tomorrow at City Field,
and Kelvin, here's the hat that I had specially designed
for all my friends. I can see this, okay, let
me see. Oh clean, and it's a it's a stretch

fit in the back, so it's fitted and in the
back it's real nice. So everybody attending the game will

and uh is I Ian? You're gonna set up this
told Lebron story where he talked about if he was
doing a draft, he would draft hisself first out of
all the players available. I'm not incredibly familiar with this story,

but Kelvin has it. Then, Kelvin has it well. Lebron.

Of course, he was asked recently just talking about if
everybody was kind of you could draft everybody, who would
you draft? And he went ahead and said that I
would draft myself. This was a time piece and he
was talking about I would draft myself, and I feel
like all the other great players would do the same
thing as well. They would draft themselves. If you could

lay it all out in history, who would you get?

Great players feel like, you know, they're those guys, there's
those ones. So it got us thinking, you know, if
you were to draft let's rob Let's set kind of
a criteria. Everybody. Everybody's ever touched the NBA basketball, everybody's
ever been on the court. They're all, say, twenty two
years old, and they're gonna have an opportunity for the
rest of their lives, you know, or a ten to

twelve year career. I should say, you're gonna draft him?
Who would you draft? Lebron said it take me? He said, absolutely,
take me. But obviously great players feel like they would
be themselves. Who would you select?
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Is he crazy? Is he right? Did he? Did he
nail it? I get what he's saying, because in order
to make it to that level. I don't think people
realize this. Everybody was the man at their high school.
Do you know how many high school you know what
I mean? There was a guy who is the best
basketball player and on their college team, right, he was
(07:34):
the best. There's a ton of guys who were mister basketball.
You think mister basketball in every state is in the
NBA Kelvin.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
Right, I.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Shoot, I know a couple that didn't. This is what
I'm trying to say. From Michigan. Yeah, right, who didn't
make it? They were the best player in the state
of Michigan or whatever, and they didn't make it. So
my point is, yes, all players would think they're great.
You gotta play with that kind of chip on your shoulder,

believing you're great, not acquiescing to other people when you're
competing with people. So I get that that Lebron would say, well,
I would take myself, And that's why you couldn't have
people involved, because it's just human nature for them to
want to take themselves, bet on themselves, believe in themselves.
(08:30):
So I'm not knocking Lebron for saying he would draft
hisself first, but I don't think that everybody else would
be in that camp. Despite his longevity, despite the numbers
he put up, there's a lot of stuff that go.
I just don't know how you can look past Michael Jordan.
I just don't. And it ain't just the ring culture.
(08:51):
Can we stop? It's not ten times scoring champ average
thirty in the playoffs, you know what I mean? Nine
times defensive player like I could go on. It ain't
just the six championships. And yes, we get it. He
was six and oh in the NBA finals and despite
(09:12):
everybody making claims about how great Scotty was and if
it wasn't for Scotty he wouldn't have the rings. Whatever
it is, Scotty never won a finals MVP. He was.
It was open for Scotty to win the finals MVP.
Andre Igo Widow would won a finals MVP. Am I right?
So they like the best player automatically gets it correct? Right? No,
(09:35):
you're right. So if you told me the Bulls won
six championships, Scotty won three finals MVPs and Michael won,
do you think we'd have a different conversation as wouldn't
it be different? Sure, it'd be different. That's not what happened.
He was six and oh won the MVP and all
(09:56):
those six championships. But it's the body of work. If
look at Michael Jordans came in as a dunker, stopped
at became a shooter, right did everything, got stronger like
every year something new in his bag, and built his game,
(10:16):
got beat up by the Pistons and the Celtics. Right
took his lumps. Six seven years. Wasn't an overnight sensation,
nothing nothing. I was covering Michael Jordan when people said, oh, yeah,
he's flashy, he's great, whatever, But he'll never win. He
doesn't make other people better. They used to say that
(10:36):
about Michael. He'll never win Kelvin because he doesn't make
his teammates better. That's what I used to hear. And
I would take Michael over anybody. Even Kareem was a
great player in high school. Cop like you talk about
all around, it's Kareem high school, college and the pros unmatched.
(11:01):
But if I was drafting a player to start my team,
it would be Michael Jeffrey Jordan.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
So I'm gonna tell you who my answer is, and
I'm gonna put lebron aside. The answer is Shaquille O'Neill,
and I will never debate or argue with Jordan.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
I get it right.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
It's Michael Jordan, and he is the greatest of all time.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
But I'm gonna tell you why.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
For me, it was one a one in one a
between Lebron and Shack because they have something similar for me,
and this is what I would look for as general Washington,
if I was a general of a team general manager
Kelvin Washington, I want a guy that, of course is
absolutely gonna be dominant, obviously maybe best player in the

league one, two, three, Right, So I get that in Shack.
But what I also get is sometimes I'm gonna get
a guy and he'll be good. That he might not
be as great as I thought, and I might not
hit on every draft pick, but as long as I
got a guy that's good, up with him and a
couple other dudes who understand the role, I have a
chance to go to the finals every year, and at
(12:06):
their peaks, those two guys, to me are the greatest
of all time in that Lebron and Shaq. That's why
you go to Orlando, you get to finals, which with
Shag he didn't win it, he was young, but he
got there. You go to the Lakers, you go to
a bunch of finals, you win a few. You go
to Miami, you go back to the.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
Finals, you win.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
Lebron did the same thing. And it's because to me,
those guys are the best two at long as they
have a guy with them, and they can have anybody.
I can miss on a few picks, I can disc
guy's not as great good teams, great teams, okay, kind
of good teams. I still have to get to shot
to get to the finals because they're that good. And
(12:46):
I think that's the one difference for me if I'm
the general manager between I admit, when they got it right,
they were unbeatable. Right when Jordan finally got Phil Phil
Jackson and he got out. Obviously Horace Grant playing well
and he got Scottie Pippen at his apex, it was
a rat literally six and oh. And obviously Horace Grant
(13:06):
will leave it and it replaced him with Dennis Robin.
But it was a rat when six and oh in
the finals. I think the one difference for me when
I look at a Kobe and I look at a Jordan,
a couple other players of their ilk, if it wasn't
quite right, I didn't get that next level for them.
I don't know if they could make everyone better. I
(13:27):
don't know if they can switch their games like a
Lebron could where he would say, Okay, look tonight, I'm
gonna score forty. Okay, tonight, this night, I'm gonna put
up twenty and get you guys going, Shaq, I'm gonna
be so dominant. Then I'm gonna get you looks that
you can you'll never get anywhere else because they're gonna
triple teamy literally, and you're gonna get the wide open
shot you've never got except shooting in your own driveway.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Right, I'm gonna get you shots.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
I'm gonna get guys that are great in foul trouble
and they literally got to sit out an entire half
because I'm that dominant, and it changes the complexity of games.
So if I have that guy for you know, ten
twelve years, I got a shot to go to finals
every year.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
And to take out in the end of games because
he couldn't make any free throws, that guy.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Right, And that's why I said, you got to have
another good I don't even have to have an all
time great, but if I got a good guy with him,
I just feel like, Shaq is that good. It is
apex that I'm gonna have a shot year and year.
And I'm not saying I'm gonna win it every year.
But I love the fact that I got a shot
because he's that good and he's gonna make that everybody
else around him better simply because he's the most dominant.
(14:32):
And it's the same thing with Lebron, and that he
can be so versatile, he's so skilled, he reads the
floor so well that he canve Matthew de Lavadova. All
of a sudden, the name in the NBA that Timothy
Moskoff got seventy five million dollars from the Lakers skill
they thought he was.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
But Lebron also lost a lot like that. I mean,
I don't know how you.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Do fully aware, No, I'm not just gounting it. I
look just as he did.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Just lose lost a lot for a guy.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
And singularly, that's my point is that I know I
can't I don't know if I'm gonna win, right, but
I want a shot every year. And I feel like
at their Apex, I got a shot every year whether
the team was solid, good or great. And I don't
think a lot of guys can do that. They think
the situations had to be perfect for them to win

at a high clip.

against would be Larry Bird. I'm taking even with all
the available information right and legacy. You know, from college
into the league. The guy was dominant three MVP Street
and he's and he's able to call Michael Jordan one
of the best ever. Well, I think I think he
sent in Mike home even that year while you know
Mike was playing. You know what that was, I can't remember.

I believe it was okay.

Because the first one I remember is the second Pistons final, Jockie,
I'm always guessing about Isaiah Tomas Summon's best, greatest basketball
so I played. You know, he had to beat those guys,
and I'm taking Larry first overall.

Listen, Rob knows I'll keep what I keep telling you, Rob,
Larry keeps dropping on people's Listen. I don't understand it.
I tell you that all the time.

I agree, and and I'm with you, Uhry. And I
was somebody who covered Larry Bird and saw him up close,
you know what I mean, Kelvin, And I'm with you.
I know a lot of people try to discount them.
He looks like he's awkward with the little shorts on
and all that. That dude was a killer.

Are you doubt the other opposing teams? Bitch going crazy
every time you score. Remember what he did to Atlanta
Hawks put a sixty piece on him and the whole
bitch every time that falling all over his team. Dominique
Wilkins said, he was like, y'all smile, laughing, high five
each other.

Thanks for taking the call. Yeah, Larry Joe Bird was
certainly out of this world. He belongs in the conversation.
Back to back to back MVP's eighty four, eighty five,
and eighty six with two championships in there. And the
thing about Larry Bird that we have to recognize is
there would have been more championships in the late eighties
had Len Frosty bias Rt not passed away.

Yeah, there's no doubt about that. That was a big
blow to that franchise.
Speaker 7 (22:55):
Oh but in terms of this conversation, it has to
be Michael Jeffrey Jordans that I did. I'm taken first overall,
and I appreciate the other calls that they brought up,
Wilt Chamberlain. For me, it's gonna be William Felton Russell.
That's going to be second overall on my list, because
these are the two individuals and it's beyond winners. These
are conquerors. Okay, we're talking Alexander the Great, We're talking

Ganghis Khan, We're talking Napoleon Bonaparte.

Okay, wow, okay, oh yeah, oh yeah.

In history, you know when we talked about the total wealth,
that is the singular difference between these two individuals, and
there's a couple others and the rest. That's why, Michael,
that's why Lebron and to Quillneill have to drop down
in my opinion, because in high leverage situation, Let's talk
about the finals in ninety five, not the finals in
two thousand when they had the three peat. The finals
in ninety five, a young Shaq went up against career

went up against our team, Okay, and it was a
four oh sweet he wasn't ready. And we know that
Lebron James has had issues in seven he was young.
But for me, you lost to Dallas in eleven and
then you lost to the Spurs.

You gave it awaychampionships to the Spurs in fourteen, and
we know that Ray Allen saved you with it with
that that shot. I just deal with Michael and Bill Russell.
Bill Russell having his Olympic experience right going through the racism,

when they came, they just had that extra that some
of the other players, particularly that one that that skipped college,
you don't have it in crunch moments. I'm going with

say this, whatever criticism you have with Lebron, I would
agree with it. But the only thing is I've seen
Lebron win at I consistent high level. Has he always
won the championship? No, But like Kevilyn saying, he's going
to have you there consistent, Jordan has always had optimal

conditions to win. When he was in college, he went
to the best school, played with the best coach, best players,
went to the Olympics. Of course, you got the best players.
When he got to the NBA Initially things weren't right,
and management wasn't right, the players weren't right. The coach
went right. Eventually management got right. He had the best management,

they got the best coach, they got the best players,
and he started to win it. And that's what great
players do. Lebron really has never had a great coach.
Now when he went to Miami, he got with a
great management, organization, players, and then he started winning. But
I would take my chance with Lebron because, like Kevin
was saying, if I don't have a right as being

the management of the team, I feel that player that
Lebron's mentality would help us win. And I also think
Jordan's mentality will also hinder the team to somewhere if
he doesn't have the right parts around them.

to a flagrant spurs at Knicks tomorrow. New York leads

they get twenty four free throw attempts TAR eight and
maybe we were fouling. Maybe we were fouling, but.

Can't gets the ball off of loose ball rebound and
he shoots it and he gets whacked across the arm
and they hit the ball and it goes out of
bounds on the baseline. There's no foul. There were opportunities
for fouls to be called to at least try to
even the free throws out to go twenty four free
throw attempts in the second half, that's forty eight for

the game. If you think about it, the way that
they called that second half compared to eight all the
shots we took, we got fouled four times roughly for
eight free throw a stemps. Again, I don't complain much.
I never thought i'd see that in an NBA Finals game,
and I saw it tonight. It's tough to overcome when
you're playing against a great team, all right, you.

Got an issue with that, Yeah, sour grapes, just to
bring up the officiating when you've just won thirteen straight.
There were some times when the Knicks got calls as
well along that thirteen game winning streak as well. And
if you're going to cry about it, you know this.
Teams can be more aggressive sometimes and other teams aren't.

I don't know, Cat wasn't taken shots, but they drive
into the basket as much. And I'm not saying that
they didn't miss some calls. Don't get me wrong. Officials
are human. They miss calls. All the time. I just
think this is the wrong place to really cry about it.
I just like, I don't remember. Most of the year

he was always preaching about overcoming and that every night
we go out, we can beat anybody. I don't care
what the circumstances are. And then all of a sudden,
you're not up three old because you didn't win that
Madison Square Garden when the whole everybody in New York
was watching you and all the celebrities. Now I got
an issue, And I'm just saying, you could do that

referee of thing Kelvin every night. You could do it
every night if you want to, and most of the
time we don't want the game to get to that
point umpires. You could do it always squeezing us Kelvin.
You know, there was like three big pictures in there
that would have got us out of innings and you
know what I mean, for the third out and they

to scored any runs. We could play that game all night.
I just think it came off as like cry baby ish.
It came off as that to me. And unless you're
going to say, and even Kat said, the officials aren't
(34:21):
the reason that we lost. That's what he said he's
playing in the game, so Cat wasn't buying it. So
why is Mike Brown so hell bent? Is that hoping
that the next game, you know what I mean, they'll
remember him belly aching and try to make some calls
against the Spurs. Maybe that's his play, but for his
own team, the reason they didn't win was a lot

of reasons, and mostly because they were aggressive. Would you
agree with that the Knicks weren't as aggressive as.

I'll say this though I disagree to an extent that
I think this is part of the jousting of the
finals from coaches. I think coaches, that's part of what
I'm supposed to do, is start putting it out there.
You got the video out there, and obviously we just
got the news from Steve. They're breaking news that they
called it a file. They said they missed a file
on Wimby, but they didn't call it a flagrant, which
I thought it was clearly a flagrant. A minimum, not
(35:11):
saying he should have been flavored too, but it was
definitely a flagrant. You can't push somebody head all the
way to the ground. I don't even understand that they
clearly want to keep winby in the game. And so
to me, you make some noise the files, there were
some files missed, and you make us raise our eyebrows
and keep an eye out. And then you get the
stuff like Wimby now where they said we had we
missed it, and now you got stuff going for the

next couple of days, next twenty four hours, forty eight hours.
Me and you talk about it, other shows talk about it,
and you know these things. That's part of my job
as a coach.

Now we'll get in there, we'll fix what we got
to do. Right, we look at the film.

Oh, here's your thing. And then when they call a
big foul on the Knicks, lady, the game is going

calls and all that, like which one do you want,
because then they could say, well, if there was some
files by the Knicks, one, we'll call all that. We'll
keep calling those as well. I'm just saying, be careful

with that. And I hear, I hear that coaches are
trying to politic and get put a plan of seed
in officials heads or whatever. Just came up at thirteen
game winning, streaky lost, And that's your point I just
think that.

I think all the Spurs turned up the tenacity and
the physicality, and they got away with some stuff. Like
I mentioned a couple of Jalen Brunson. He's getting ran
over again, laid out, and I think for him it
was like, all right, I understand files happened, but there
are some stuff that got carried away. And now I've

on my team and I tell a man up. You

think I am. So it's special around number forty nineteen
eighty six is when I started here. We are twenty
twenty six. It's hard to last that long doing anything,
you know what I mean? It just is. And I'm
not patting myself on the back, but I know it's
just longevity, is you know. I'm gonna give you credit.

where I think people missed the boat is they get
and you know this, they get locked in like this

the box. I'm good And even if they're very successful,
like this is it, I give you credit because when
I first moved to LA, a lot of people weren't,
in my opinion, do utilizing it, taking full advantage. I'm like, yo,
you don't do this, you don't do that, and you
know how to add too, Like I'm doing TV. I'm
gonna I'm gonna do TV. I'ma still right. Okay, I'm

still right, but I'm gonna do this' And I get
I think that's dope. And that's to me a part
of what happens with longevity. Some people kind of get
stuck in one thing and it could be good at it,
but if it pivots the industry pivots, they don't know
what to do, and then you never hear from them,
and so I was aware of that, and I caught
onto that, and so I've been able to okay music, okay, sports, okay, news, okay, anchoring,

TV radio. And I saw you do that obviously growing
up in Detroit. So I'll give you credit for that
because you kind of had your hands in a few
different pots always. And I think, again, you don't want
to for young people, make sure you first master something.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
I always tell them your writing.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Yours was writing, and that's what got you employed, kept
you employed, kept your name out there. Then you jumped
in the radio, TV, so on and so forth. So
I always tell people, don't just try to do everything.
You gotta master something first, so then other opportunities come.
But I saw you do that, you know, growing up
in metro Detroit, and uh and then like I said myself,
I tried, Okay, let me make sure you you know,
be to do this, be able to do that, as
(05:01):
you mastered. For me, it was radio, music, radio, talk radio, sports, radio.
So now I can do a bunch of other things.
But shout out to you, because that's how that's a
formula to me for having forty years.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Longevity. Is you have to be virtutile. You really do.
You have to be able to do other stuff. But
I just want to say so, I'm in New York.
I'm celebrating with my family and friends tomorrow at City Field,
and Kelvin, here's the hat that I had specially designed
for all my friends. I can see this, okay, let
me see. Oh clean, and it's a it's a stretch

fit in the back, so it's fitted and in the
back it's real nice. So everybody attending the game will

doing a draft, he would draft hisself first out of
all the players available. I'm not incredibly familiar with this story,

Of course, he was asked recently just talking about if
everybody was kind of you could draft everybody, who would
you draft? And he went ahead and said that I
would draft myself. This was a time piece and he
was talking about I would draft myself, and I feel
like all the other great players would do the same
thing as well. They would draft themselves. If you could

lay it all out in history, who would you get?

Great players feel like, you know, they're those guys, there's
those ones. So it got us thinking, you know, if
you were to draft let's rob Let's set kind of
a criteria. Everybody. Everybody's ever touched the NBA basketball, everybody's
ever been on the court. They're all, say, twenty two
years old, and they're gonna have an opportunity for the
rest of their lives, you know, or a ten to

twelve year career. I should say, you're gonna draft him?
Who would you draft? Lebron said it take me? He said, absolutely,
take me. But obviously great players feel like they would
be themselves. Who would you select?
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Is he crazy? Is he right? Did he? Did he
nail it? I get what he's saying, because in order
to make it to that level. I don't think people
realize this. Everybody was the man at their high school.
Do you know how many high school you know what
I mean? There was a guy who is the best
basketball player and on their college team, right, he was

the best. There's a ton of guys who were mister basketball.
You think mister basketball in every state is in the
NBA Kelvin.

Right, I.

Shoot, I know a couple that didn't. This is what
I'm trying to say. From Michigan. Yeah, right, who didn't
make it? They were the best player in the state
of Michigan or whatever, and they didn't make it. So
my point is, yes, all players would think they're great.
You gotta play with that kind of chip on your shoulder,

believing you're great, not acquiescing to other people when you're
competing with people. So I get that that Lebron would say, well,
I would take myself, And that's why you couldn't have
people involved, because it's just human nature for them to
want to take themselves, bet on themselves, believe in themselves.

So I'm not knocking Lebron for saying he would draft
hisself first, but I don't think that everybody else would
be in that camp. Despite his longevity, despite the numbers
he put up, there's a lot of stuff that go.
I just don't know how you can look past Michael Jordan.
I just don't. And it ain't just the ring culture.

Can we stop? It's not ten times scoring champ average
thirty in the playoffs, you know what I mean? Nine
times defensive player like I could go on. It ain't
just the six championships. And yes, we get it. He
was six and oh in the NBA finals and despite

everybody making claims about how great Scotty was and if
it wasn't for Scotty he wouldn't have the rings. Whatever
it is, Scotty never won a finals MVP. He was.
It was open for Scotty to win the finals MVP.
Andre Igo Widow would won a finals MVP. Am I right?
So they like the best player automatically gets it correct? Right? No,

you're right. So if you told me the Bulls won
six championships, Scotty won three finals MVPs and Michael won,
do you think we'd have a different conversation as wouldn't
it be different? Sure, it'd be different. That's not what happened.
He was six and oh won the MVP and all

those six championships. But it's the body of work. If
look at Michael Jordans came in as a dunker, stopped
at became a shooter, right did everything, got stronger like
every year something new in his bag, and built his game,

got beat up by the Pistons and the Celtics. Right
took his lumps. Six seven years. Wasn't an overnight sensation,
nothing nothing. I was covering Michael Jordan when people said, oh, yeah,
he's flashy, he's great, whatever, But he'll never win. He
doesn't make other people better. They used to say that

about Michael. He'll never win Kelvin because he doesn't make
his teammates better. That's what I used to hear. And
I would take Michael over anybody. Even Kareem was a
great player in high school. Cop like you talk about
all around, it's Kareem high school, college and the pros unmatched.

But if I was drafting a player to start my team,
it would be Michael Jeffrey Jordan.

So I'm gonna tell you who my answer is, and
I'm gonna put lebron aside. The answer is Shaquille O'Neill,
and I will never debate or argue with Jordan.

It's Michael Jordan, and he is the greatest of all time.

For me, it was one a one in one a
between Lebron and Shack because they have something similar for me,
and this is what I would look for as general Washington,
if I was a general of a team general manager
Kelvin Washington, I want a guy that, of course is
absolutely gonna be dominant, obviously maybe best player in the

league one, two, three, Right, So I get that in Shack.
But what I also get is sometimes I'm gonna get
a guy and he'll be good. That he might not
be as great as I thought, and I might not
hit on every draft pick, but as long as I
got a guy that's good, up with him and a
couple other dudes who understand the role, I have a
chance to go to the finals every year, and at

their peaks, those two guys, to me are the greatest
of all time in that Lebron and Shaq. That's why
you go to Orlando, you get to finals, which with
Shag he didn't win it, he was young, but he
got there. You go to the Lakers, you go to
a bunch of finals, you win a few. You go
to Miami, you go back to the.

Finals, you win.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
Lebron did the same thing. And it's because to me,
those guys are the best two at long as they
have a guy with them, and they can have anybody.
I can miss on a few picks, I can disc
guy's not as great good teams, great teams, okay, kind
of good teams. I still have to get to shot
to get to the finals because they're that good. And

I think that's the one difference for me if I'm
the general manager between I admit, when they got it right,
they were unbeatable. Right when Jordan finally got Phil Phil
Jackson and he got out. Obviously Horace Grant playing well
and he got Scottie Pippen at his apex, it was
a rat literally six and oh. And obviously Horace Grant

will leave it and it replaced him with Dennis Robin.
But it was a rat when six and oh in
the finals. I think the one difference for me when
I look at a Kobe and I look at a Jordan,
a couple other players of their ilk, if it wasn't
quite right, I didn't get that next level for them.
I don't know if they could make everyone better. I

don't know if they can switch their games like a
Lebron could where he would say, Okay, look tonight, I'm
gonna score forty. Okay, tonight, this night, I'm gonna put
up twenty and get you guys going, Shaq, I'm gonna
be so dominant. Then I'm gonna get you looks that
you can you'll never get anywhere else because they're gonna
triple teamy literally, and you're gonna get the wide open
shot you've never got except shooting in your own driveway.

Right, I'm gonna get you shots.

I'm gonna get guys that are great in foul trouble
and they literally got to sit out an entire half
because I'm that dominant, and it changes the complexity of games.
So if I have that guy for you know, ten
twelve years, I got a shot to go to finals
every year.

And to take out in the end of games because
he couldn't make any free throws, that guy.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Right, And that's why I said, you got to have
another good I don't even have to have an all
time great, but if I got a good guy with him,
I just feel like, Shaq is that good. It is
apex that I'm gonna have a shot year and year.
And I'm not saying I'm gonna win it every year.
But I love the fact that I got a shot
because he's that good and he's gonna make that everybody
else around him better simply because he's the most dominant.

And it's the same thing with Lebron, and that he
can be so versatile, he's so skilled, he reads the
floor so well that he canve Matthew de Lavadova. All
of a sudden, the name in the NBA that Timothy
Moskoff got seventy five million dollars from the Lakers skill
they thought he was.

But Lebron also lost a lot like that. I mean,
I don't know how you.

Do fully aware, No, I'm not just gounting it. I
look just as he did.

Just lose lost a lot for a guy.

And singularly, that's my point is that I know I
can't I don't know if I'm gonna win, right, but
I want a shot every year. And I feel like
at their Apex, I got a shot every year whether
the team was solid, good or great. And I don't
think a lot of guys can do that. They think
the situations had to be perfect for them to win

at a high clip.

conditions to win. When he was in college, he went
to the best school, played with the best coach, best players,
went to the Olympics. Of course, you got the best players.
When he got to the NBA Initially things weren't right,
and management wasn't right, the players weren't right. The coach
went right. Eventually management got right. He had the best management,

they got the best coach, they got the best players,
and he started to win it. And that's what great
players do. Lebron really has never had a great coach.
Now when he went to Miami, he got with a
great management, organization, players, and then he started winning. But
I would take my chance with Lebron because, like Kevin
was saying, if I don't have a right as being

the management of the team, I feel that player that
Lebron's mentality would help us win. And I also think
Jordan's mentality will also hinder the team to somewhere if
he doesn't have the right parts around them.

they called that second half compared to eight all the

I never thought i'd see that in an NBA Finals game,
and I saw it tonight. It's tough to overcome when

There were some times when the Knicks got calls as

are human. They miss calls. All the time. I just
think this is the wrong place to really cry about it.
I just like, I don't remember. Most of the year

he was always preaching about overcoming and that every night
we go out, we can beat anybody. I don't care
what the circumstances are. And then all of a sudden,
you're not up three old because you didn't win that
Madison Square Garden when the whole everybody in New York
was watching you and all the celebrities. Now I got
an issue, And I'm just saying, you could do that

referee of thing Kelvin every night. You could do it
every night if you want to, and most of the
time we don't want the game to get to that
point umpires. You could do it always squeezing us Kelvin.
You know, there was like three big pictures in there
that would have got us out of innings and you
know what I mean, for the third out and they

to scored any runs. We could play that game all night.
I just think it came off as like cry baby ish.
It came off as that to me. And unless you're
going to say, and even Kat said, the officials aren't
(34:21):
the reason that we lost. That's what he said he's
playing in the game, so Cat wasn't buying it. So
why is Mike Brown so hell bent? Is that hoping
that the next game, you know what I mean, they'll
remember him belly aching and try to make some calls
against the Spurs. Maybe that's his play, but for his
own team, the reason they didn't win was a lot

of reasons, and mostly because they were aggressive. Would you
agree with that the Knicks weren't as aggressive as.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
I'll say this though I disagree to an extent that
I think this is part of the jousting of the
finals from coaches. I think coaches, that's part of what
I'm supposed to do, is start putting it out there.
You got the video out there, and obviously we just
got the news from Steve. They're breaking news that they
called it a file. They said they missed a file
on Wimby, but they didn't call it a flagrant, which
I thought it was clearly a flagrant. A minimum, not

saying he should have been flavored too, but it was
definitely a flagrant. You can't push somebody head all the
way to the ground. I don't even understand that they
clearly want to keep winby in the game. And so
to me, you make some noise the files, there were
some files missed, and you make us raise our eyebrows
and keep an eye out. And then you get the
stuff like Wimby now where they said we had we
missed it, and now you got stuff going for the

next couple of days, next twenty four hours, forty eight hours.
Me and you talk about it, other shows talk about it,
and you know these things. That's part of my job
as a coach.

Now we'll get in there, we'll fix what we got
to do. Right, we look at the film.

Oh, here's your thing. And then when they call a
big foul on the Knicks, lady, the game is going
to be a problem. Right. He's talking about officials and
calls and all that, like which one do you want,
because then they could say, well, if there was some
files by the Knicks, one, we'll call all that. We'll
keep calling those as well. I'm just saying, be careful

with that. And I hear, I hear that coaches are
trying to politic and get put a plan of seed
in officials heads or whatever. Just came up at thirteen
game winning, streaky lost, And that's your point I just
think that.

I think all the Spurs turned up the tenacity and
the physicality, and they got away with some stuff. Like
I mentioned a couple of Jalen Brunson. He's getting ran
over again, laid out, and I think for him it
was like, all right, I understand files happened, but there
are some stuff that got carried away. And now I've
done my part. Rob said it out loud. Now go
on my team and I tell a man up. You
