been a sports fan for a very, very long time. Okay.
I had the misfortune of picking the Jets when I
was a young guy. Still zero Super Bowl trips. I

picked the Knicks when I was a young guy, and
there was some major heartache against the Rockets. I won't
even bring up the Spurs the last time, and I
was happy they made the finals. And folks, this was
just an amazing weekend of sports. Obviously, I'll talk about
USA versus Paraguay. That was incredible. Friday. My Friday was
off the charts, and then Saturday for the Knicks to

win the title. This felt different than the Yankee titles
because the Yankees spend more money than anyone else. They
buy far the best players and in the in the
nineties and early two thousands, I mean, they're just stacked.
You know. These are the teams that I rooted for forever,
and so when you win, it feels great. But when
you win as an underdog, oh my gosh, it feels

so much better. Where Amy Patrick, you and Jersey probably
Nicks take down the Spurs in one of the closest
series you will ever find. I mean, I've got it
avalanche of stats here.

The series ended Saturday night after the Spurs choked away
another fourth quarter, So I won't go through every single thing.
But if we're being completely honest with ourselves, guys, we
have to say this. This was no, this is not
your normal four to one series. Okay, so unbelievable ESPN
Analytics stats. So in Game five, the Spurs had a

ninety five percent chance to win with seven minutes left
in the fourth, ninety five. In Game four, it was
ninety nine percent, up twenty in the fourth. Obviously Madison
square guard. Game two, which they choked away seventy two
percent chance to win with a minute left at home,
and they blew that that was the wenby throwing it
off castles back. Game one, up thirteen in the third,

ninety one percent chance to win, and they blow it.
So I don't want to hear all this Spurs doom
and gloom nonsense. Oh, Spurs are never gonna win a title.
I saw one of the most clueless takes ever from
Doc Rivers. I don't know if you guys saw this,
Doc Rivers, we don't know if the Spurs are gonna
be back. Look at the Thunder. The Thunder got there

against the Miami Heat, and it took them like almost
twenty years to get back. Timeout. Timeout, Does Doc Rivers
know something? I don't. Are the Spurs trading Steph Castle
or Jelan Harbor like the Thunder traded James Harden one
of the dumbest moves this century in basketball free agency.

Of course they're not gonna get back there. And then
Kevin Durant left, But like settle down, Doc Rivers, the
Spurs we'll be back. In fact, one of my seventy
two hot takes I got on this pod, I think
the Spurs have a better chance to get back to
the finals next year than the next two. And I

don't really see how that's some kind of scorching hot take.
I just and that's not a knock on my Knicks
at all. I think the Knicks are a phenomenal team
right now. They had an epic run. I you know,
hot take number two, this is the greatest Knicks team
in franchise history. Again, I don't see that as anything
like of a hot take. I said that before the

series when they had won what was it a nine, ten, eleven,
eleven in a row? And so they finished the postseason
with only three losses, and you know, I know that's
not the Shaq Kobe Lakers, that's not the KD. Curry Warriors.

I think I forget how many. Yeah, I'm pretty sure
Jordan's Bulls had won where they didn't lose more than three.
Are they in that group? Yeah, it's tough to tell
if you look at stuff like point differential. Yes, that's
for sure there. But this was a nip and tuck
series with the Spurs all five games with two minutes left.

It was clutch time all of them. It was an
unbelievable series. And you know, and Rob put it, well,
last time we spoke, if we're just we're looking at
it completely. In this postseason, the Spurs did not have
any choke moments. They were a young team, they looked
like they were big enough for them. They didn't choke
against the Thunder. They saved it for the finals. And

I still maintain that a lot of the Spurs energy, zest, life,
everything was just sucked out of them in that Thunder
series and mentally they were just fried here. Just collapsing
late against vintage Jalen Brunson obviously didn't help that Deer
and Fox was a complete disaster. Again, I'm not gonna

go overboard. Let me give the Knicks to their flowers.
First of all, we're gonna have a special guest, Becky
Hammond on the podcast tomorrow. Psych Becky Hammond would never
show up on this podcast, not the way I would
tell her, like, come on, get a clue here. She
had one of the worst takes in years. She was
loud and strong, the worst you could possibly be, super

confident the next Jalen Brunson's are number one. No way,
he's too small. Bro had forty five points in a
closeout game in the NBA Finals, he had forty five.
He was the Finals MVP. My og In and ob
Bett fell short. Happens. Brunson in the NBA Finals average
thirty two four and four, shot forty two percent for

the field, thirty eight percent from three, did a lot
of damage in the last couple of games with three
because he started out slow. Guys, we gotta put the
narrative to bed. And here was just one no. I mean,
we tried to tell you Isaiah Thomas did it. Steph
Curry did it? Like it be done, it probably will
get done again depending on what your reference of height is.

You know the stuff. Curry's not small, It's just it's
a goofy take because look at the way they were built. Now,
A great question that I asked a couple buddies in
a group chat was if the MAVs keep Brunson and Luca,
do they win a title? I think the answers probably
know because that backcourt doesn't stop anyone. Brunson's backcourt wing

made Is Bridges a really good defender. Hearts of plus
defender OG's excellent. You need those wing defenders. I mean,
the blueprint is out there. We saw with Luca and
Kyrie it works, but it had a ceiling. In the
finals they got touched up by Brown and Tatum, great
wing defenders Derek White. So you can't have two supremely

offensive minded guys in the back court and expect a
winner time. Now, you can get to the finals and
maybe things break your way. But like Tyrese, Haliburt's not
a great defender. Sga is not a great defender, but
look at the guards next to him, lou Dort Damn,
I'm spacing on the Pacers shooting guard from last year
in the finals, but I know he's a good defender.

I remember him. It's essentially, you know, Jalen Brunson is
on the perfect team. And I saw a TikTok, not
like the actual app but like a blow by blow
of how the Nicks ended up with Brunson and how
the MAVs with a generational fumble. The guy went through

it and he looked at the MAVs, so it's weird.
In twenty twenty two, I had to call it the series.
The Mavericks were playing the Jazz, Luca got hurt. I
don't know if you guys remember this. Jalen Brunston had
to carry the load. Everybody picked Utah because with Luca out,
Jalen Brunson is something special. Jalen Brunson was phenomenal in
the series, led them in scoring, played all six games,

and they take down Downovan Mitchell in the Jazz and
it was like, oh, Jalen b he pretty impressive. It
shouldn't be considering as a superstar in high school, superstar
Villanova whatever. And next thing. You know, the off season
comes and the Dallas Mavericks could have gotten Brunson, wait
for it, four years, fifty five million dollars. He was

eligible for that in the off season and throughout the season,
but according to his dad, he told the Mavericks he'd
be willing to sign that on two occasions before the
season started. In the first half of the season, the
Mavericks never put the offer on the table. Now, I'm
sure Mark Cuban will do finger pointing and say that's
not my fault. But they lost Jalen Brunson badly. And
(08:41):
then of course what are the Knicks do. They're like, oh,
these guys screwed up. She let's go hire Rick Brunson
and then let's go grab Jalen. And then Jalen obviously
didn't take all the money, and because he did not,
that enabled him to trade for col antin Towns. That
enabled him to pay og Internobe. And now you've got
this sick roster. And the Knicks played incredible and their

champions and I again I had the hot take rob
that since the Warriors with Curry and KD, this Knicks
team was the best champion. So you'd be going up
against the Celtics, the Nuggets, the Thunder. Remember the Spurs
were favored to win this series. At the beginning, I maintained,
the Knicks are the best champion since the Warriors with

Curry and KD. What say you?

We thought of this before I leaned the bubble Lakers,
And again it's only because of the regular season success
that they had. Because coming into this playoff run, the
New York Knicks were statistically the longest shot champion that
we have seen, you know, in terms of betting, right,
Like I read somewhere that they were seventeen to one
(09:50):
coming into the playoffs. So nobody expected them to do
what they did because their regular season was uneven. They
were up and down, and even in that first round series,
there were a lot of people my off included, who said,
you know, even I'm picking the Kicks to win the series.
Atlanta wanted to face the Knicks for a reason. They
tanked that last day of the season because they thought
that they had a good opportunity. There was something about

New York mentally, physically, emotionally that they thought they.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Could capitalize on.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Do the first three games, they looked like they might
be right and then, which was flipped in a way
that we have never seen before, and they have to
diisically now become the single most dominant playoff team ever.
Like I'm repeating that, the single most dominant playoff team ever.
Their net rating is plus fifteen point four. The next
(10:36):
closest team is the one Lakers, a full one point
seven points behind. Like the gap between them number one
and number two was the same as the gap between
number two and like number ten. So yes, they have
been extraordinary in this playoffs. And I'm just glad that
I jumped on the train early so I could celebrate

I will say, Knicks fans this postseason showed out, I
mean in Philly, in Atlanta, and then of course in

was some harrowing moments with the locals. I guess they
were sick of the New Yorkers, and you know, there
may have been some eggs thrown and some f bombs hurled,
but man, the next quite a celebration. I did have
some fomo of not being in New York, although you
know it's I do miss New York. I'm not one
for crowds in the streets, ripping doors off of cars.

That's not really my jam. But it did look like
quite a party, and the Knicks fans they got to celebrate.
You know, this was an unbelievable run. You know, I
don't want to say they caught lightning in a bottle.
Rob I think you know, people are gonna talk about
repeating what we've got, the exact lineup back. I mean,
they The only guy I think they could lose is
Mitchell Robinson. If you look at I like to go
(12:14):
to hoopsite salaries, Mitchell Robinson the guy that could go somewhere,
and you know, it's not like he's made a ton
of money, so he may just say, yeah, I'm gonna
go take the bag from the Brooklyn Nets, and you know,
then they'll end up trading me because it doesn't work out.
But yeah, I do think the Knicks will have a
legitimate shot to come out of the East again next year.
But it's going to be a much tougher East given

Terrese Halliburton's back. Of course Yannis, who will get into
Oh I also forgot they've got Landry Shamitt and Jordan
Clarkson on the bench. You know, somebody's going to clearly
overpay Landry Shammitt after the postseason that he had. And yeah,
all their starters are back. They should be right there.
I'm not ready to make a pick yet. Obviously I
(12:55):
want to see what happens to Yiannis. But obviously Indiana
very very good. I think will be a threat in
the East. Celtics, let's see what the moves they make.
They're gonna need to make some. I would put the
Sixers in there, but you know, come on, Rob, We've
seen that, We've seen that movie before. They usually fold
in the postseason. Maybe the Pistons make a splash. I
don't know. I think the Knicks could come out of
(13:17):
the East again, but I want to just savor this title.
I know that sounds cheesy, but I do want to
relish it. I mean it feels good man, when your
team wins a championship. Now we just got to get
the Jets a quarterback super Bowl. Yeah that's different.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
Well, the Knicks are, I mean, just to give you
context to what you're saying, they're currently only having the
fourth best odds to win.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
The twenty twenty seven championship. But let me get to
the top four. It was Spurs number one, yes, Thunder two, correct, Nuggets,
no Celtics, Celtics, Celtics and then Nuggets and no Knicks
are four Knicks.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Yeah, So to your point, like, it's not like everybody's
just assuming like.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
We have the last several years, where like, hey.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
When the Thunder one, watch out the Thunder, they're gonna
run the league. When the Nuggets want watch out the Nuggets,
they're gonna run the league. When the Celtics will watch
out this other. But nobody feels that way about this
next team.

So with the Thunder, you got Jokis the undisputed MVP
best player. You mean, the Nuggets, Nuggets, deadness, thunder SGA correct,
and then you know, uh, Celtics have been around for
a while. Tatum and Brown correct. But Rob where it
gets interesting is the Jalen Brunson disrespect and I compared
on social media this too. Jalen Hurts of the Eagles
(14:32):
wins the Super Bowl MVP, and there's still a billion doubters. Well,
he's never gonna win an MVP. Jen Jalen Hurts is
no Lamar Jackson, He's no Patrick Malomes. You know all
these guys with the MVP who were first round picks.
Jalen Brunson not a first round pick. Jalen Brunson undersized.
There's still people doubted Jalen Brunson. Honestly, yep. Yeah, I

mean it's just gonna happen. So I and now, obviously
he was a more instrumental to the Knicks than Hurts us.
But it Hurts was hugely pivotal to push I mean
barely turn the ball over. One of the best running
quarterbacks in the league. He was a cheap code inside
the ten. I think there are similarities beyond the name.
But yeah, I'm guessing that that people are just like, yeah,

I see that. That was good. Congratulations. You guys aren't
that special? Like is brunts are gonna win an NBA
MVP any time soon. No, is he gonna is he did?
He has he even gotten votes? Ever, I'm trying to look.
I don't think he has. And it's weird because, I mean, Rob,
how many guys we do they're like the best American player.

Jalen Brunt is never anybody's number one. We do best
point guards. Jalen Brunt is never anybody's in number one.
He doesn't need to care about that stuff though. He's
a finals MVP. He averaged thirty two in the finals
against the Spurs and the Spurs and they're great defense.
So this, the brunts and hate is just it's gonna
keep going. It's not gonna subside. Ever, It's just not

People are gonna say, oh, give me Sga. Well, we
just watched SG against the Spurs. He couldn't do anything.
I know he had two other guys down. But Sga
just won the MVP. Shouldn't he be able to have
a better series than Brunson. Brunson outperformed SG against the
Spurs by a mile. Now, quickly, Rob, I want to
pivot to this dearon Fox narrative. Was he awful in

the series, Yes, he was, DearS terrible was he maybe
still hurt by the high ankle spring. Possibly, you can't
use that as an excuse though. Deeron Fox and his
huge contract, shot thirty four percent from the field, twenty
five percent from three. He looked just outright terrified. I

think undeniably he's their six man next year. I think
you have to have him come off the bench. There
was a Devin Vessel leaked something on accident about you know,
Dylan Harper wasn't happy. Dylan Harper was her second best player.
I love Castle. Castle was not as good as Dylan
Harper in the series. He just wasn't. Harper was unbelievable,

carried them, had a tough free throw, tough miss lay
up in Game five. But I think you have to
start Castle and Harper in the back court and say
Fox you're the six man. I don't see Daron Fox
being a rock the boat guy. I think he's happy
to go to the finals. Remember this guy had zero
playoff series wins before this one in his career, and
now he's in the NBA Finals. I don't think it's

a tough sell to move him to the bench. But
I mean, if if you ask me anything, they need
the Spurs. I would say, just another veteran, because Harrison Barnes,
to my knowledge, didn't play in the final three games.
He's just he's not he's not good enough. So I
don't know if there's a veteran out there on the
market that you could go get. I don't know if
it's quite a Eudonnas Haslam or one of those guys,
(17:49):
you know, not like a ring chaser, but like a
poised guy who's gonna calm everybody down. The problem is,
I need that guy on the court, Rob. I don't
need him on the bench in the huddles only. I
need him to be able to be on the court,
and it would probably have to be a three and
D guy to unseat Vasell or Champagnee or maybe compliment them.
(18:10):
I don't know, do you have any thoughts on this
deeron Fox? Everybody wants him traded because his salary is
so huge they're not paying anybody else. It's not an albatross.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
No, I would agree with that part, and I will
say before I get to the main point, it is
funny that a couple of months ago Rich Paul caused
headaches here in Lakerland when he said, Hey, if you're
a championship team, Austin Reevez needs to move to the bench.
You know that's going to be the best things for
the team, not about yourself, It's about the team. And
I think we can all agree that what's best for
the team is for Danon Fox to move from the bench.
(18:38):
And uh, you know, last I checked, d'aron Fox is
a Rich Paul client, so we'll see if he's that
is a public about that kind of narrative now in
the wake of this series. The thing that's I agree
with you one thousand percent. They need veteran guys, and
I think we talked about before. I'd like to see
them get a guy who is ideally somewhere between six
seven and six ten that they can play a legitimate

either big wing or small four small ball four there
with Wemby because they play all this. What about Zach Lavigne,
it's too small. I think they have they have the
market corner on six five and under guys. I'd like
to see him Middleton sure, well, I mean he can
give me ten, ten to twelve minutes a game shore whatever, right,
Somebody like Bias Harris. Absolutely, you don't got to be
(19:20):
a great player, just someone who can credibly give me
ten to twenty minutes a game in a playoff game,
like I think that would be awesome. What where I
think that they're going to run into an issue because
even though I agree with you, I think Dylan Harper
was fantastic. All the numbers say that he had a
historically great series, not just for a rookie, but for
any sixth man ever. Players name a history with twenty
(19:40):
plus pointe hundred plus rebounds fifty plus assists off the
bench in a single playoff run. James harden Man, who
Genobli and Dylan Harper. Dylan Harper, I last that take's
like nineteen years old, right, So he is awesome. I
think without question, three years from now you're talking about
him as easily their second best player, potentially in an
All NBA third team kind of guy like he is good.

The problem is for this specific team. I know that
it's it's only one playoff run. So take up with
the grain of salt. Every combination with the Aaron Fox
on it was negative, right, every combination in terms of
the Big three Fox, Castle, Wemby, Fox, Harper Wemby. However,
you want to slice it, he's negative, Castle, Harper, Wemby
(20:25):
was positive.

Right, here's the other issue.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
The problem with that is Castle, Harper Wemby had one
of the worst offensive ratings any big three could have
at ninety six point nine.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
How much wait, do you how many minutes was added?
Do you know? Not a ton? Not a ton?

Because you know you didn't You didn't want to play
the two young guys often, right, Like that was just
going into it. But the issue that you're going to
run into is as great as those three are potentially,
we all agree that potential is phenomenal. At this point
in their career, Victor Wembin Yama doesn't have a go
to offensive move, Steph Castle doesn't have a go to

offense move, and Dylan Harper as of now is still not.

A great shooter.

So you you're if you're trotting out a situation where
your three best guys are great defensively and offensively. In
terms of creation, I don't know if that's necessarily gonna
get you through an eighty two game regular season and
you're gonna remain at the top of the Western Conference.
You might have to be willing to say we are
gonna struggle through most of this year. Maybe we're a two, three,
(21:26):
four seed, but we know come playoff time, they'll be ready.
It's just are you gonna be willing to make that
sacrifices the question?
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Hm? Well I think you could. I mean again, you've
got a young ish team and you don't we we
so we don't need to overload Wemby with minutes. I
think maybe a backup center is a big need. Like
Cornette was fine, but let's be really, he was largely
unplayable in the uh in the finals, right he was,
(21:53):
You'd be gone for like three or four minutes and
then it's like, bye, we need we need someone else.
So I don't know. Yeah, I'm not as doom and
gloom on this person. I are they the number one seed? Well,
let's see what happens with with okay, see, are they're
still gonna be awesome? They're still gonna be awesome. Yeah,
we're sixty one deep. Now if if somebody gets hurt,
then what Doc Rivers looks like a sage because save
get injured, like give me right? So overall, I mean,

I thought it was an amazing final. I haven't seen
numbers for viewership, but it was consistently over twenty million,
and I think that's it was just an interesting finals.
It did have a Red Sox Cubs type feel to.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
It, and it was the first at least through the
first four games. I don't remember what Game five was
like in twenty twelve, but the first finals game since heat,
thunder and twenty twelve where the first four games all
had clutch time.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
Wow, every game was the night close? Yeah, and I
don't forget it.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
It was tight down the stretch and then Lebron and
Wade would make plays. The veteran team made plays. Same
thing happens in this series. It's tight, it's tight, it's tight,
veteran players make plays.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Yeah. Interesting, So the next the only thing that stinks.
And again, and it's tough to say, hey, we won
the title. Anything that stinks. But if we're being honest, guys,
like I'm a little bummed, we just no more NBA
for four months, you know, I mean we do have
what does Lebron do? What does Reeves do? What does
the honest do? That that will that will be fun?
But I don't know, man, I mean, my family's gonna
(23:16):
be happy that, you know, nights now when there's no
when there's no World Cup that we have Knights back
to hang out. You know, I know rob G's got
the little one at home, but like the little ones.
But yeah, like we do definitely more interviews. We won't
need to be waiting up for the games to end
to record, you know, at like nine ten o'clock at night,
(23:37):
at least on the West coast, it's you know, twelve
one o'clock on the East coast. So overall, great season,
great postseason. It's funny nobody hasn't mentioned tanking in a while.
Huh yeah, Oh my gosh.

Why do you think they Nick squashed that thing? Now
that they they have nobody on their top or their
starting lineup. I think no one in their top seven
who is a homegrown player. So I guess mister Robinson is.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
The only Robinson's the only guy is.

So you know, that's been a big narrative coming into
the whole season, like, well, you can't win in the
NBA unless you draft well and then you you know,
build that way. Well, the Knicks just said f that
we're gonna buy all the players a week. They essentially said,
f them picks, right, they did, They said it on
the podium too.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
But Cal Bridges ad f them picks. He said that
he did. And how about listen, uh, I know some
people want to fire Mitch Johnson. My guys, let's settle down.
Did he did he coach at poor finals? I would
say yes, it was his first coaching matters. But remember,
look at the other side. Tom Thibodeau leads the Knicks
to the conference finals and they fire him. They bring
(24:34):
on Mike Brown, who was not their first choice. If
you guys remember first choice was Michael Malone. They badly
wanted Michael Malone. There was and then there was the issue,
well is he too similar to Tibbs. Answer is probably yes.
And then after that there was this big push to
get Jason Kidd. Remember they wanted Jason Kidd, and they
(24:57):
settled for their third choice, Mike Brown, who was a
guy who's been in some battles, having been with the Warriors,
he's been in the playoffs with the Kings, and they
take him off the scrap peat and you know, they
get Jalen Brunston on the cheap. They get a coach
nobody really wanted in Mike Brown, and they win the title.
That's a pretty damn good story and without winning, without
(25:17):
having a tank for like a number one pick. I mean,
I'm still young enough to remember Rob, all the hypeover
Oh my gosh, are we gonna get Zion? Are we
going to get Zion? Are they going to rig it
so we get Zion? We don't get Zion. I don't know.
I just think it's been a really good run for

see by yourself at like, you know, two o'clock in
the afternoon. It's honestly, I really enjoyed it. Spielberg is
as good as guests. Then we doubled up and we
saw a movie. Oh my gosh, i'm spacing on. There's
this comedian in Nate Brigatesey. Yeah, yeah, you know that.
You know the guy. Yeah, so he's in a movie
called The bread Winner. It's only rated PG. It's good

Family Fair. You know what I compare it to. Did
you see the movie with Mark Wahlberg where he was
like with a family and they were like spies, him
and his wife and they had kids and they were
all like on the run. Did you see that? It's
like a comedy. I don't think so. Yeah, your kids
are too young. Anyways, that was a good movie. I
have good Family Fair. This one was really funny. The
premise is obvious, right, Dad works, Mom's to stay at home.

Mom crushes it, and then mom comes up with this
idea and becomes like a business person and Dad decides
to stay at home. You could imagine the absolute shit
show is going to follow. I'm sure you know, rob
G and I probably couldn't handle that kind of thing
if the wives took over. Actually, your wife works, but
I'm sure if you were full on stay at home

all the time, it would be a massive challenge. And
this is you know, a comedian and funny stuff, but
I highly recommend seeing both. But the Kappa of the
weekend for me was USA Paaraguay Friday Night. I'll just
I'm not going to give you the full like blow
by blow, but I'd never been to a World Cup game. Obviously.

You guys know my soccer history. That was like my
number one sport growing up in my family history in
the Caribbean. My dad's dad and his brother both were
like pretty big time soccer players this tiny island. They
never made the World Cup or anything, but they were
like really and that was that was what I thought,
you know. But before I was gonna be Magic Johnson,
(28:11):
I was like, Okay, I'll be the next Maridona. Fine,
you know, no big deal. And so I was like
a pretty good soccer player and I just love soccer,
and I'm a minority owner and a team. So we
made sure to get tickets. We had to pay for them, obviously,
I know you guys are oh Fox hooked you up? Nope,
they did not. The only negative throughout the whole thing
(28:32):
was getting into the stadium. And I'm not gonna stand
here and bash FIFA for an hour. I'll let others
do that. But the seed to get in the stadium
was just an absolute disaster. And like it's sunny and
like seventy eight, I'm starting to sweat and I don't
handle lines well and it was just a mess and
(28:52):
the lines were super long. We got there the two
hours before the game, no, like ninety minutes before the game,
and I start to panic and I'm like, are we
not going to get in? And I just kind of
lost it and I was just like we're cutting. I'm sorry,
and we just busted in front of these people and
somebody said something. I'm like, yeah, I'm looking at my
phone trying to get my family in order to the
guy and he just turned back around. So it just
(29:14):
was like a bit of a crush to get in
and there was no order. There was It was you know,
there's a million people for FIFA, and none of them
were like, hey, this is what you do, this is
a line. There was none of that so it was
kind of like a bottleneck. And so we're standing there
and my wife looked at this guy with this kid
and I'm like, Aim, do you know who that is?
She's like, that's him? And it was the comedian Sebastian Manusculo.

Is that, I says Scalco, Yeah, yeah, that guy who
was just on Saturday Live. Hilarious. He's just standing out
there and he's in the same struggle. We are no
security around him, just him and his kid, and nobody knows.
Maybe people knew who he was, but nobody said anything,
and he's just struggling to get into. It's just it
was absolute chaos. And but once you get in, you're

just like, oh, finally, and it was just incredible. The
vibes were off the charts. We get an own goal
I think like seven minutes in, and I was just
in pure shock and the whole stadium is just going crazy.
And then we happened to be in the corner right
where Polisic was cooking, so we got to see all
his one on ones and I mean he must have
(30:18):
roasted in three or four times setting up plays and
it was just like I had no idea we could
have been this dominant. It was an unbelievable performance. And
his third goal or the team the USA's third goal
right before the half balligan with a just a laser.
It was the loudest I ever heard so far. I mean,
I mean it was just like you know, when you
(30:39):
go up one nothing, like oh my gosh, we could
do this, and at two nothing, you're like, holy is
this happening? At three nothing, it's, oh my gosh, we
freaking got this. Edward good who wants next? You know,
like it was just awesome, and so the whole experience
was great. The lines not amazing, you know, and just
to back up a little, yes we did see Taylor
(31:00):
swift as so far that was louder. I was talking
the loudest for so far for a sporting event, and
usually that's because there's opposing fans. Paraguay had maybe like
ten percent of the fans, but they were out of
it from like the seventh minute when when they had
the own goal, and you know, the lines outside sucked.
The lines inside were terrible. It was what I paid
(31:22):
twenty dollars for a beer, but it was like a
beer and a half, one of those big ones. But
overall and experience that I'm unforgettable. Instantly on the way home,
I'm like, all right, round of thirty two, we're gonna
win the group now, round of thirty two in Santa Clara.
All right, who's with me? You know, let's try to
parachute in. Let's see if we can get tickets. And
I'm fired up. Rob, I'm just curious. There weren't a

ton of replays in the stadium. What was it like
watching the game? I have no idea how the production
was or anything. Oh, it was awesome. It was fantastic.

And that's coming from me, a guy who will casually
watch soccer. But I'm locked into the World Cup. I'm
locked in even to the Olympic Games.

Some people didn't like it because you know, if you
are a soccer fan, you already know what a red
card means, and you know it's hey, ten men on
the field, so be aware of that. But they made
a point to put that on the graphic. So if
you're a casual fan, just tuning in for the first time,
trying to catch World Cup fever. You saw that they
made it so that the casual fan could enjoy it,
and they were very very good about repeatedly pointing out

that this team has been building for a while, that
this is the team that USA put together several years ago,
knowing they were going to take some lumps, knowing that
there were a lot of young guys, knowing that they
were unrealistically going to make a run a couple of
years ago, that they were all building towards this particular season,
this particular team, because it's it's in the USA, We're
(32:57):
going to host the World Cup.

Let's put our best foot forward.

And you could feel it immediately that this was different
than the other World Cups with a game in USA soccer.
So I thought it was a great product. It was
a hell of a game. You don't see that often
or out of a match. Excuse me, you don't see
that much scoring historically in soccer, so for them to
put up a three in the first half was awesome.

Yeah. So, I know you're not a huge soccer guy,
but I'm curious, given what you just saw, are more
friends and family people you talk to Are they more
into Oh my gosh, us say who we got next?

Absolutely the people I was because I put it on
because I wanted to watch it, and I was at
my father in lass house.

He wanted to watch it.

Everybody else kind of just meandering throughout the house worrying
about whatever. And after the first goal, you see like
one person sit down, and then you see like another
attempt and they don't quite score it, but it's like, oh,
well right there. Then another person is down then and
before you know it, everybody in the house is gathered
around one TV, whether they like soccer or not.

And so then to see USA play the way they did,
it was such.

An incredible experience and I'm glad that.

I went to the Nike store on Sunday about my
daughter a USA soccer stuff.

Yeah, excited about it. So, yes, we're in. I mean
it is, Uh, things are looking good for us for sure.
We have Australia next. Yes. I stayed up Saturday night
till like eleven or something. It's laughable. Its Saturday night, Jay,
it sounds better. I stayed up to two am Eastern, Yeah,
to watch Australia absolutely smoke Turkey in an upset. So

essentially we'll play Friday against Australia for the first place
in the group. And I mean that's not really what
anybody expected. I know that maybe we pull that off,
but even if there's a tie, given the point gold differential,
you know, for one win were locks, you know, so
we just can't lose.

The Polisic thing has to be scared. Were they were
they aware? Like in the city of people like why
is Polisic out? And there was just like nothing and
then we find out like well after the game he
got kicked in the calf and wasn't in great shape.

tells me that they're not gonna play Polistics. So I
did bet under two and a half goals for USA. Australia.

Obviously calves you got to be careful with and if
they do have bigger dreams and you know they want to,
I don't know, maybe get to the quarterfinals.

for a living. Because most Americans, after what they saw,

We're putting up three and you're like, hey, I'll tell

there were a lot of cheers and booze for Iran. Yeah. Yeah,
I'm not totally following all of it. I'm more into this,

uh yeah, that was That was one of the louder
teams that people were cheering or booing for. It's a
very polarizing topic. I just saw a post about you know,
people are Jalen Brunson's wife. Yeah, yeah, what what do

I had the misfortune of picking the Jets when I
was a young guy. Still zero Super Bowl trips. I

picked the Knicks when I was a young guy, and
there was some major heartache against the Rockets. I won't
even bring up the Spurs the last time, and I
was happy they made the finals. And folks, this was
just an amazing weekend of sports. Obviously, I'll talk about
USA versus Paraguay. That was incredible. Friday. My Friday was
off the charts, and then Saturday for the Knicks to

win the title. This felt different than the Yankee titles
because the Yankees spend more money than anyone else. They
buy far the best players and in the in the
nineties and early two thousands, I mean, they're just stacked.
You know. These are the teams that I rooted for forever,
and so when you win, it feels great. But when
you win as an underdog, oh my gosh, it feels

so much better. Where Amy Patrick, you and Jersey probably
Nicks take down the Spurs in one of the closest
series you will ever find. I mean, I've got it
avalanche of stats here.

The series ended Saturday night after the Spurs choked away
another fourth quarter, So I won't go through every single thing.
But if we're being completely honest with ourselves, guys, we
have to say this. This was no, this is not
your normal four to one series. Okay, so unbelievable ESPN
Analytics stats. So in Game five, the Spurs had a

ninety five percent chance to win with seven minutes left
in the fourth, ninety five. In Game four, it was
ninety nine percent, up twenty in the fourth. Obviously Madison
square guard. Game two, which they choked away seventy two
percent chance to win with a minute left at home,
and they blew that that was the wenby throwing it
off castles back. Game one, up thirteen in the third,

ninety one percent chance to win, and they blow it.
So I don't want to hear all this Spurs doom
and gloom nonsense. Oh, Spurs are never gonna win a title.
I saw one of the most clueless takes ever from
Doc Rivers. I don't know if you guys saw this,
Doc Rivers, we don't know if the Spurs are gonna
be back. Look at the Thunder. The Thunder got there

against the Miami Heat, and it took them like almost
twenty years to get back. Timeout. Timeout, Does Doc Rivers
know something? I don't. Are the Spurs trading Steph Castle
or Jelan Harbor like the Thunder traded James Harden one
of the dumbest moves this century in basketball free agency.

Of course they're not gonna get back there. And then
Kevin Durant left, But like settle down, Doc Rivers, the
Spurs we'll be back. In fact, one of my seventy
two hot takes I got on this pod, I think
the Spurs have a better chance to get back to
the finals next year than the next two. And I

don't really see how that's some kind of scorching hot take.
I just and that's not a knock on my Knicks
at all. I think the Knicks are a phenomenal team
right now. They had an epic run. I you know,
hot take number two, this is the greatest Knicks team
in franchise history. Again, I don't see that as anything
like of a hot take. I said that before the

series when they had won what was it a nine, ten, eleven,
eleven in a row? And so they finished the postseason
with only three losses, and you know, I know that's
not the Shaq Kobe Lakers, that's not the KD. Curry Warriors.

I think I forget how many. Yeah, I'm pretty sure
Jordan's Bulls had won where they didn't lose more than three.
Are they in that group? Yeah, it's tough to tell
if you look at stuff like point differential. Yes, that's
for sure there. But this was a nip and tuck
series with the Spurs all five games with two minutes left.

It was clutch time all of them. It was an
unbelievable series. And you know, and Rob put it, well,
last time we spoke, if we're just we're looking at
it completely. In this postseason, the Spurs did not have
any choke moments. They were a young team, they looked
like they were big enough for them. They didn't choke
against the Thunder. They saved it for the finals. And

I still maintain that a lot of the Spurs energy, zest, life,
everything was just sucked out of them in that Thunder
series and mentally they were just fried here. Just collapsing
late against vintage Jalen Brunson obviously didn't help that Deer
and Fox was a complete disaster. Again, I'm not gonna

go overboard. Let me give the Knicks to their flowers.
First of all, we're gonna have a special guest, Becky
Hammond on the podcast tomorrow. Psych Becky Hammond would never
show up on this podcast, not the way I would
tell her, like, come on, get a clue here. She
had one of the worst takes in years. She was
loud and strong, the worst you could possibly be, super

confident the next Jalen Brunson's are number one. No way,
he's too small. Bro had forty five points in a
closeout game in the NBA Finals, he had forty five.
He was the Finals MVP. My og In and ob
Bett fell short. Happens. Brunson in the NBA Finals average
thirty two four and four, shot forty two percent for

the field, thirty eight percent from three, did a lot
of damage in the last couple of games with three
because he started out slow. Guys, we gotta put the
narrative to bed. And here was just one no. I mean,
we tried to tell you Isaiah Thomas did it. Steph
Curry did it? Like it be done, it probably will
get done again depending on what your reference of height is.

You know the stuff. Curry's not small, It's just it's
a goofy take because look at the way they were built. Now,
A great question that I asked a couple buddies in
a group chat was if the MAVs keep Brunson and Luca,
do they win a title? I think the answers probably
know because that backcourt doesn't stop anyone. Brunson's backcourt wing

made Is Bridges a really good defender. Hearts of plus
defender OG's excellent. You need those wing defenders. I mean,
the blueprint is out there. We saw with Luca and
Kyrie it works, but it had a ceiling. In the
finals they got touched up by Brown and Tatum, great
wing defenders Derek White. So you can't have two supremely

offensive minded guys in the back court and expect a
winner time. Now, you can get to the finals and
maybe things break your way. But like Tyrese, Haliburt's not
a great defender. Sga is not a great defender, but
look at the guards next to him, lou Dort Damn,
I'm spacing on the Pacers shooting guard from last year
in the finals, but I know he's a good defender.

I remember him. It's essentially, you know, Jalen Brunson is
on the perfect team. And I saw a TikTok, not
like the actual app but like a blow by blow
of how the Nicks ended up with Brunson and how
the MAVs with a generational fumble. The guy went through

it and he looked at the MAVs, so it's weird.
In twenty twenty two, I had to call it the series.
The Mavericks were playing the Jazz, Luca got hurt. I
don't know if you guys remember this. Jalen Brunston had
to carry the load. Everybody picked Utah because with Luca out,
Jalen Brunson is something special. Jalen Brunson was phenomenal in
the series, led them in scoring, played all six games,

and they take down Downovan Mitchell in the Jazz and
it was like, oh, Jalen b he pretty impressive. It
shouldn't be considering as a superstar in high school, superstar
Villanova whatever. And next thing. You know, the off season
comes and the Dallas Mavericks could have gotten Brunson, wait
for it, four years, fifty five million dollars. He was

eligible for that in the off season and throughout the season,
but according to his dad, he told the Mavericks he'd
be willing to sign that on two occasions before the
season started. In the first half of the season, the
Mavericks never put the offer on the table. Now, I'm
sure Mark Cuban will do finger pointing and say that's
not my fault. But they lost Jalen Brunson badly. And

then of course what are the Knicks do. They're like, oh,
these guys screwed up. She let's go hire Rick Brunson
and then let's go grab Jalen. And then Jalen obviously
didn't take all the money, and because he did not,
that enabled him to trade for col antin Towns. That
enabled him to pay og Internobe. And now you've got
this sick roster. And the Knicks played incredible and their

champions and I again I had the hot take rob
that since the Warriors with Curry and KD, this Knicks
team was the best champion. So you'd be going up
against the Celtics, the Nuggets, the Thunder. Remember the Spurs
were favored to win this series. At the beginning, I maintained,
the Knicks are the best champion since the Warriors with

Curry and KD. What say you?

We thought of this before I leaned the bubble Lakers,
And again it's only because of the regular season success
that they had. Because coming into this playoff run, the
New York Knicks were statistically the longest shot champion that
we have seen, you know, in terms of betting, right,
Like I read somewhere that they were seventeen to one
(09:50):
coming into the playoffs. So nobody expected them to do
what they did because their regular season was uneven. They
were up and down, and even in that first round series,
there were a lot of people my off included, who said,
you know, even I'm picking the Kicks to win the series.
Atlanta wanted to face the Knicks for a reason. They
tanked that last day of the season because they thought
that they had a good opportunity. There was something about

New York mentally, physically, emotionally that they thought they.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Could capitalize on.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Do the first three games, they looked like they might
be right and then, which was flipped in a way
that we have never seen before, and they have to
diisically now become the single most dominant playoff team ever.
Like I'm repeating that, the single most dominant playoff team ever.
Their net rating is plus fifteen point four. The next

closest team is the one Lakers, a full one point
seven points behind. Like the gap between them number one
and number two was the same as the gap between
number two and like number ten. So yes, they have
been extraordinary in this playoffs. And I'm just glad that
I jumped on the train early so I could celebrate

I will say, Knicks fans this postseason showed out, I

was some harrowing moments with the locals. I guess they
were sick of the New Yorkers, and you know, there
may have been some eggs thrown and some f bombs hurled,
but man, the next quite a celebration. I did have
some fomo of not being in New York, although you
know it's I do miss New York. I'm not one
for crowds in the streets, ripping doors off of cars.

That's not really my jam. But it did look like
quite a party, and the Knicks fans they got to celebrate.
You know, this was an unbelievable run. You know, I
don't want to say they caught lightning in a bottle.
Rob I think you know, people are gonna talk about
repeating what we've got, the exact lineup back. I mean,
they The only guy I think they could lose is
Mitchell Robinson. If you look at I like to go

to hoopsite salaries, Mitchell Robinson the guy that could go somewhere,
and you know, it's not like he's made a ton
of money, so he may just say, yeah, I'm gonna
go take the bag from the Brooklyn Nets, and you know,
then they'll end up trading me because it doesn't work out.
But yeah, I do think the Knicks will have a
legitimate shot to come out of the East again next year.
But it's going to be a much tougher East given

Terrese Halliburton's back. Of course Yannis, who will get into
Oh I also forgot they've got Landry Shamitt and Jordan
Clarkson on the bench. You know, somebody's going to clearly
overpay Landry Shammitt after the postseason that he had. And yeah,
all their starters are back. They should be right there.
I'm not ready to make a pick yet. Obviously I

want to see what happens to Yiannis. But obviously Indiana
very very good. I think will be a threat in
the East. Celtics, let's see what the moves they make.
They're gonna need to make some. I would put the
Sixers in there, but you know, come on, Rob, We've
seen that, We've seen that movie before. They usually fold
in the postseason. Maybe the Pistons make a splash. I
don't know. I think the Knicks could come out of

the East again, but I want to just savor this title.
I know that sounds cheesy, but I do want to
relish it. I mean it feels good man, when your
team wins a championship. Now we just got to get
the Jets a quarterback super Bowl. Yeah that's different.

Well, the Knicks are, I mean, just to give you
context to what you're saying, they're currently only having the
fourth best odds to win.

The twenty twenty seven championship. But let me get to
the top four. It was Spurs number one, yes, Thunder two, correct, Nuggets,
no Celtics, Celtics, Celtics and then Nuggets and no Knicks
are four Knicks.

Yeah, So to your point, like, it's not like everybody's

gets interesting is the Jalen Brunson disrespect and I compared
on social media this too. Jalen Hurts of the Eagles

wins the Super Bowl MVP, and there's still a billion doubters. Well,
he's never gonna win an MVP. Jen Jalen Hurts is
no Lamar Jackson, He's no Patrick Malomes. You know all
these guys with the MVP who were first round picks.
Jalen Brunson not a first round pick. Jalen Brunson undersized.
There's still people doubted Jalen Brunson. Honestly, yep. Yeah, I

mean it's just gonna happen. So I and now, obviously
he was a more instrumental to the Knicks than Hurts us.
But it Hurts was hugely pivotal to push I mean
barely turn the ball over. One of the best running
quarterbacks in the league. He was a cheap code inside
the ten. I think there are similarities beyond the name.
But yeah, I'm guessing that that people are just like, yeah,

I see that. That was good. Congratulations. You guys aren't
that special? Like is brunts are gonna win an NBA
MVP any time soon. No, is he gonna is he did?
He has he even gotten votes? Ever, I'm trying to look.
I don't think he has. And it's weird because, I mean, Rob,
how many guys we do they're like the best American player.

Jalen Brunt is never anybody's number one. We do best
point guards. Jalen Brunt is never anybody's in number one.
He doesn't need to care about that stuff though. He's
a finals MVP. He averaged thirty two in the finals
against the Spurs and the Spurs and they're great defense.
So this, the brunts and hate is just it's gonna
keep going. It's not gonna subside. Ever, It's just not

People are gonna say, oh, give me Sga. Well, we
just watched SG against the Spurs. He couldn't do anything.
I know he had two other guys down. But Sga
just won the MVP. Shouldn't he be able to have
a better series than Brunson. Brunson outperformed SG against the
Spurs by a mile. Now, quickly, Rob, I want to
pivot to this dearon Fox narrative. Was he awful in

the series, Yes, he was, DearS terrible was he maybe
still hurt by the high ankle spring. Possibly, you can't
use that as an excuse though. Deeron Fox and his
huge contract, shot thirty four percent from the field, twenty
five percent from three. He looked just outright terrified. I

think undeniably he's their six man next year. I think
you have to have him come off the bench. There
was a Devin Vessel leaked something on accident about you know,
Dylan Harper wasn't happy. Dylan Harper was her second best player.
I love Castle. Castle was not as good as Dylan
Harper in the series. He just wasn't. Harper was unbelievable,

carried them, had a tough free throw, tough miss lay
up in Game five. But I think you have to
start Castle and Harper in the back court and say
Fox you're the six man. I don't see Daron Fox
being a rock the boat guy. I think he's happy
to go to the finals. Remember this guy had zero
playoff series wins before this one in his career, and
now he's in the NBA Finals. I don't think it's

a tough sell to move him to the bench. But
I mean, if if you ask me anything, they need
the Spurs. I would say, just another veteran, because Harrison Barnes,
to my knowledge, didn't play in the final three games.
He's just he's not he's not good enough. So I
don't know if there's a veteran out there on the
market that you could go get. I don't know if
it's quite a Eudonnas Haslam or one of those guys,

you know, not like a ring chaser, but like a
poised guy who's gonna calm everybody down. The problem is,
I need that guy on the court, Rob. I don't
need him on the bench in the huddles only. I
need him to be able to be on the court,
and it would probably have to be a three and
D guy to unseat Vasell or Champagnee or maybe compliment them.

I don't know, do you have any thoughts on this
deeron Fox? Everybody wants him traded because his salary is
so huge they're not paying anybody else. It's not an albatross.

No, I would agree with that part, and I will
say before I get to the main point, it is
funny that a couple of months ago Rich Paul caused
headaches here in Lakerland when he said, Hey, if you're
a championship team, Austin Reevez needs to move to the bench.
You know that's going to be the best things for
the team, not about yourself, It's about the team. And
I think we can all agree that what's best for
the team is for Danon Fox to move from the bench.

And uh, you know, last I checked, d'aron Fox is
a Rich Paul client, so we'll see if he's that
is a public about that kind of narrative now in
the wake of this series. The thing that's I agree
with you one thousand percent. They need veteran guys, and
I think we talked about before. I'd like to see
them get a guy who is ideally somewhere between six
seven and six ten that they can play a legitimate

either big wing or small four small ball four there
with Wemby because they play all this. What about Zach Lavigne,
it's too small. I think they have they have the
market corner on six five and under guys. I'd like
to see him Middleton sure, well, I mean he can
give me ten, ten to twelve minutes a game shore whatever, right,
Somebody like Bias Harris. Absolutely, you don't got to be

a great player, just someone who can credibly give me
ten to twenty minutes a game in a playoff game,
like I think that would be awesome. What where I
think that they're going to run into an issue because
even though I agree with you, I think Dylan Harper
was fantastic. All the numbers say that he had a
historically great series, not just for a rookie, but for
any sixth man ever. Players name a history with twenty
(19:40):
plus pointe hundred plus rebounds fifty plus assists off the
bench in a single playoff run. James harden Man, who
Genobli and Dylan Harper. Dylan Harper, I last that take's
like nineteen years old, right, So he is awesome. I
think without question, three years from now you're talking about
him as easily their second best player, potentially in an
All NBA third team kind of guy like he is good.

The problem is for this specific team. I know that
it's it's only one playoff run. So take up with
the grain of salt. Every combination with the Aaron Fox
on it was negative, right, every combination in terms of
the Big three Fox, Castle, Wemby, Fox, Harper Wemby. However,
you want to slice it, he's negative, Castle, Harper, Wemby

was positive.

Right, here's the other issue.

The problem with that is Castle, Harper Wemby had one
of the worst offensive ratings any big three could have
at ninety six point nine.

How much wait, do you how many minutes was added?
Do you know? Not a ton? Not a ton?

Because you know you didn't You didn't want to play
the two young guys often, right, Like that was just
going into it. But the issue that you're going to
run into is as great as those three are potentially,
we all agree that potential is phenomenal. At this point
in their career, Victor Wembin Yama doesn't have a go
to offensive move, Steph Castle doesn't have a go to

offense move, and Dylan Harper as of now is still not.

A great shooter.

So you you're if you're trotting out a situation where
your three best guys are great defensively and offensively. In
terms of creation, I don't know if that's necessarily gonna
get you through an eighty two game regular season and
you're gonna remain at the top of the Western Conference.
You might have to be willing to say we are
gonna struggle through most of this year. Maybe we're a two, three,

four seed, but we know come playoff time, they'll be ready.
It's just are you gonna be willing to make that
sacrifices the question?

Hm? Well I think you could. I mean again, you've
got a young ish team and you don't we we
so we don't need to overload Wemby with minutes. I
think maybe a backup center is a big need. Like
Cornette was fine, but let's be really, he was largely
unplayable in the uh in the finals, right he was,

You'd be gone for like three or four minutes and
then it's like, bye, we need we need someone else.
So I don't know. Yeah, I'm not as doom and
gloom on this person. I are they the number one seed? Well,
let's see what happens with with okay, see, are they're
still gonna be awesome? They're still gonna be awesome. Yeah,
we're sixty one deep. Now if if somebody gets hurt,
then what Doc Rivers looks like a sage because save
get injured, like give me right? So overall, I mean,

I thought it was an amazing final. I haven't seen
numbers for viewership, but it was consistently over twenty million,
and I think that's it was just an interesting finals.
It did have a Red Sox Cubs type feel to.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
It, and it was the first at least through the
first four games. I don't remember what Game five was
like in twenty twelve, but the first finals game since heat,
thunder and twenty twelve where the first four games all
had clutch time.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
Wow, every game was the night close? Yeah, and I
don't forget it.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
It was tight down the stretch and then Lebron and
Wade would make plays. The veteran team made plays. Same
thing happens in this series. It's tight, it's tight, it's tight,
veteran players make plays.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Yeah. Interesting, So the next the only thing that stinks.
And again, and it's tough to say, hey, we won
the title. Anything that stinks. But if we're being honest, guys,
like I'm a little bummed, we just no more NBA
for four months, you know, I mean we do have
what does Lebron do? What does Reeves do? What does
the honest do? That that will that will be fun?
But I don't know, man, I mean, my family's gonna
(23:16):
be happy that, you know, nights now when there's no
when there's no World Cup that we have Knights back
to hang out. You know, I know rob G's got
the little one at home, but like the little ones.
But yeah, like we do definitely more interviews. We won't
need to be waiting up for the games to end
to record, you know, at like nine ten o'clock at night,

at least on the West coast, it's you know, twelve
one o'clock on the East coast. So overall, great season,
great postseason. It's funny nobody hasn't mentioned tanking in a while.
Huh yeah, Oh my gosh.

Why do you think they Nick squashed that thing? Now
that they they have nobody on their top or their
starting lineup. I think no one in their top seven
who is a homegrown player. So I guess mister Robinson is.

The only Robinson's the only guy is.

So you know, that's been a big narrative coming into
the whole season, like, well, you can't win in the
NBA unless you draft well and then you you know,
build that way. Well, the Knicks just said f that
we're gonna buy all the players a week. They essentially said,
f them picks, right, they did, They said it on
the podium too.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
But Cal Bridges ad f them picks. He said that
he did. And how about listen, uh, I know some
people want to fire Mitch Johnson. My guys, let's settle down.
Did he did he coach at poor finals? I would
say yes, it was his first coaching matters. But remember,
look at the other side. Tom Thibodeau leads the Knicks
to the conference finals and they fire him. They bring
(24:34):
on Mike Brown, who was not their first choice. If
you guys remember first choice was Michael Malone. They badly
wanted Michael Malone. There was and then there was the issue,
well is he too similar to Tibbs. Answer is probably yes.
And then after that there was this big push to
get Jason Kidd. Remember they wanted Jason Kidd, and they
(24:57):
settled for their third choice, Mike Brown, who was a
guy who's been in some battles, having been with the Warriors,
he's been in the playoffs with the Kings, and they
take him off the scrap peat and you know, they
get Jalen Brunston on the cheap. They get a coach
nobody really wanted in Mike Brown, and they win the title.
That's a pretty damn good story and without winning, without
(25:17):
having a tank for like a number one pick. I mean,
I'm still young enough to remember Rob, all the hypeover
Oh my gosh, are we gonna get Zion? Are we
going to get Zion? Are they going to rig it
so we get Zion? We don't get Zion. I don't know.
I just think it's been a really good run for
the NBA and the NBA haters. It's a tough time.
Tough time to be an NBA hater. Absolutely, you know.

a couple of years, and it's just it's not going
well for those guys right now.

see by yourself at like, you know, two o'clock in
the afternoon. It's honestly, I really enjoyed it. Spielberg is
as good as guests. Then we doubled up and we
saw a movie. Oh my gosh, i'm spacing on. There's
this comedian in Nate Brigatesey. Yeah, yeah, you know that.
You know the guy. Yeah, so he's in a movie
called The bread Winner. It's only rated PG. It's good

Family Fair. You know what I compare it to. Did
you see the movie with Mark Wahlberg where he was
like with a family and they were like spies, him
and his wife and they had kids and they were
all like on the run. Did you see that? It's
like a comedy. I don't think so. Yeah, your kids
are too young. Anyways, that was a good movie. I
have good Family Fair. This one was really funny. The
premise is obvious, right, Dad works, Mom's to stay at home.
(27:09):
Mom crushes it, and then mom comes up with this
idea and becomes like a business person and Dad decides
to stay at home. You could imagine the absolute shit
show is going to follow. I'm sure you know, rob
G and I probably couldn't handle that kind of thing
if the wives took over. Actually, your wife works, but
I'm sure if you were full on stay at home
(27:29):
all the time, it would be a massive challenge. And
this is you know, a comedian and funny stuff, but
I highly recommend seeing both. But the Kappa of the
weekend for me was USA Paaraguay Friday Night. I'll just
I'm not going to give you the full like blow
by blow, but I'd never been to a World Cup game. Obviously.
(27:50):
You guys know my soccer history. That was like my
number one sport growing up in my family history in
the Caribbean. My dad's dad and his brother both were
like pretty big time soccer players this tiny island. They
never made the World Cup or anything, but they were
like really and that was that was what I thought,
you know. But before I was gonna be Magic Johnson,
(28:11):
I was like, Okay, I'll be the next Maridona. Fine,
you know, no big deal. And so I was like
a pretty good soccer player and I just love soccer,
and I'm a minority owner and a team. So we
made sure to get tickets. We had to pay for them, obviously,
I know you guys are oh Fox hooked you up? Nope,
they did not. The only negative throughout the whole thing
(28:32):
was getting into the stadium. And I'm not gonna stand
here and bash FIFA for an hour. I'll let others
do that. But the seed to get in the stadium
was just an absolute disaster. And like it's sunny and
like seventy eight, I'm starting to sweat and I don't
handle lines well and it was just a mess and
(28:52):
the lines were super long. We got there the two
hours before the game, no, like ninety minutes before the game,
and I start to panic and I'm like, are we
not going to get in? And I just kind of
lost it and I was just like we're cutting. I'm sorry,
and we just busted in front of these people and
somebody said something. I'm like, yeah, I'm looking at my
phone trying to get my family in order to the
guy and he just turned back around. So it just
(29:14):
was like a bit of a crush to get in
and there was no order. There was It was you know,
there's a million people for FIFA, and none of them
were like, hey, this is what you do, this is
a line. There was none of that so it was
kind of like a bottleneck. And so we're standing there
and my wife looked at this guy with this kid
and I'm like, Aim, do you know who that is?
She's like, that's him? And it was the comedian Sebastian Manusculo.
(29:37):
Is that, I says Scalco, Yeah, yeah, that guy who
was just on Saturday Live. Hilarious. He's just standing out
there and he's in the same struggle. We are no
security around him, just him and his kid, and nobody knows.
Maybe people knew who he was, but nobody said anything,
and he's just struggling to get into. It's just it
was absolute chaos. And but once you get in, you're
(29:58):
just like, oh, finally, and it was just incredible. The
vibes were off the charts. We get an own goal
I think like seven minutes in, and I was just
in pure shock and the whole stadium is just going crazy.
And then we happened to be in the corner right
where Polisic was cooking, so we got to see all
his one on ones and I mean he must have
(30:18):
roasted in three or four times setting up plays and
it was just like I had no idea we could
have been this dominant. It was an unbelievable performance. And
his third goal or the team the USA's third goal
right before the half balligan with a just a laser.
It was the loudest I ever heard so far. I mean,
I mean it was just like you know, when you
(30:39):
go up one nothing, like oh my gosh, we could
do this, and at two nothing, you're like, holy is
this happening? At three nothing, it's, oh my gosh, we
freaking got this. Edward good who wants next? You know,
like it was just awesome, and so the whole experience
was great. The lines not amazing, you know, and just
to back up a little, yes we did see Taylor
(31:00):
swift as so far that was louder. I was talking
the loudest for so far for a sporting event, and
usually that's because there's opposing fans. Paraguay had maybe like
ten percent of the fans, but they were out of
it from like the seventh minute when when they had
the own goal, and you know, the lines outside sucked.
The lines inside were terrible. It was what I paid
(31:22):
twenty dollars for a beer, but it was like a
beer and a half, one of those big ones. But
overall and experience that I'm unforgettable. Instantly on the way home,
I'm like, all right, round of thirty two, we're gonna
win the group now, round of thirty two in Santa Clara.
All right, who's with me? You know, let's try to
parachute in. Let's see if we can get tickets. And
I'm fired up. Rob, I'm just curious. There weren't a
(31:45):
ton of replays in the stadium. What was it like
watching the game? I have no idea how the production
was or anything. Oh, it was awesome. It was fantastic.

And that's coming from me, a guy who will casually
watch soccer. But I'm locked into the World Cup. I'm
locked in even to the Olympic Games.

The product on television. I'm not saying this because you
know you worked for Fox and FS one. It was fantastic.
I thought that they.

Made a point.

Some people didn't like it because you know, if you
are a soccer fan, you already know what a red
card means, and you know it's hey, ten men on
the field, so be aware of that. But they made
a point to put that on the graphic. So if
you're a casual fan, just tuning in for the first time,
trying to catch World Cup fever. You saw that they
made it so that the casual fan could enjoy it,
and they were very very good about repeatedly pointing out
(32:35):
that this team has been building for a while, that
this is the team that USA put together several years ago,
knowing they were going to take some lumps, knowing that
there were a lot of young guys, knowing that they
were unrealistically going to make a run a couple of
years ago, that they were all building towards this particular season,
this particular team, because it's it's in the USA, We're
(32:57):
going to host the World Cup.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
Let's put our best foot forward.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
And you could feel it immediately that this was different
than the other World Cups with a game in USA soccer.
So I thought it was a great product. It was
a hell of a game. You don't see that often
or out of a match. Excuse me, you don't see
that much scoring historically in soccer, so for them to
put up a three in the first half was awesome.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Yeah. So, I know you're not a huge soccer guy,
but I'm curious, given what you just saw, are more
friends and family people you talk to Are they more
into Oh my gosh, us say who we got next?
What's up?
Speaker 3 (33:33):
Absolutely the people I was because I put it on
because I wanted to watch it, and I was at
my father in lass house.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
He wanted to watch it.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Everybody else kind of just meandering throughout the house worrying
about whatever. And after the first goal, you see like
one person sit down, and then you see like another
attempt and they don't quite score it, but it's like, oh,
well right there. Then another person is down then and
before you know it, everybody in the house is gathered
around one TV, whether they like soccer or not.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
And so then to see USA play the way they did,
it was such.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
An incredible experience and I'm glad that.

I went to the Nike store on Sunday about my
daughter a USA soccer stuff.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Yeah, excited about it. So, yes, we're in. I mean
it is, Uh, things are looking good for us for sure.
We have Australia next. Yes. I stayed up Saturday night
till like eleven or something. It's laughable. Its Saturday night, Jay,
it sounds better. I stayed up to two am Eastern, Yeah,
to watch Australia absolutely smoke Turkey in an upset. So
(34:34):
essentially we'll play Friday against Australia for the first place
in the group. And I mean that's not really what
anybody expected. I know that maybe we pull that off,
but even if there's a tie, given the point gold differential,
you know, for one win were locks, you know, so
we just can't lose.

The Polisic thing has to be scared. Were they were
they aware? Like in the city of people like why
is Polisic out? And there was just like nothing and
then we find out like well after the game he
got kicked in the calf and wasn't in great shape.
But that to me, I'm a little nervous. My gut
tells me that they're not gonna play Polistics. So I
did bet under two and a half goals for USA. Australia.

Obviously calves you got to be careful with and if
they do have bigger dreams and you know they want to,
I don't know, maybe get to the quarterfinals.

You know, this is how we know you do this
for a living. Because most Americans, after what they saw,
it's like hell yeah, pounding the over. USA can't be stopped.
We're putting up three and you're like, hey, I'll tell
you what me personally, I'm hoping USA wins, but I'm
been the under on this one.

But yeah, no, no, we're not going to be able
to duplicate.

You're thinking head over heart and that tells you that
you're a legitimate wager.

Well, that's because some of the bets went well. Other
ones did not. Ecuador a brutal defeat, giving a zero zero,
they hit their crossbar twice and then they give up
a golden ninetieth minute. Oh that freaking hurt. Germany, easy one,
Mexico a good one. Scotland, I've been posting him on
the on the newsletter. Some on ig that are smaller.

But yeah, let's see what we got today. I think
Spain is Spain playing today. Let's see what the schedule
calls for. And that's the beauty of it, Like during
the day, live sports that actually matter. I mean, it
doesn't get much better than that. So today we have gosh,

ESPN burying the World Cup. What's going on here? So
we have.

Spain, Cabo Verde, Belgium, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay and Iran.

New Zealand. My father actually got tickets to Iran New

Yeah, they were given to him because I guess nobody
really wanted to see that match.

And he's like, I'll go to a World Cup game.
Screw it, I'm pumped. So yeah, yeah, it's weird. There
were a lot of cheers and booze when they you know,
the announced all fifty or forty eight teams countries and
there were a lot of cheers and booze for Iran. Yeah. Yeah,
I'm not totally following all of it. I'm more into this,

you know, sports and stuff as opposed to politics. But
uh yeah, that was That was one of the louder
teams that people were cheering or booing for. It's a
very polarizing topic. I just saw a post about you know,
people are Jalen Brunson's wife. Yeah, yeah, what what do
we I didn't even know he was married first of all.
