Boston Receives Federal Grant to Fund Climate Jobs

With the climate getting warmer and more out of whack.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Hurricane Helene and Milton caused three hundred billion dollars worth
of damage in two weeks. The entire defense budget of
the United States is eight hundred billion dollars.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
The City of Boston is trying to get a next
generation workforce trained in skills that people will need for
climate emergencies. Construction workers to rebuild sea walls, first responders
to tackle ever bigger storms, and wastewater people to redesign
those systems. Thanks to ten million federal dollars, the city
is planning to train more than twelve hundred workers in
those in similar fields.

We have only two options with climate change. Deny it,
I deal with it.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Senator Ed Markey was on hand for the announcement, as
was Mayor Michelle Wu. Despite some concern that the Trump
administration would rull back the grant.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
This particular grant is already under contract and so legally
it cannot be revoked.
