Dual Red Sox, Liverpool Fans Caught Up In Rafael Devers Trade Conspiracy

Did the Red Sox trade Rafael Devers to help fund a record signing for a soccer team? The Sox say no, but local fans of both teams are still finding themselves caught up in the conspiracy theories. WBZ's Kyle Bray reports.

Billy felt the same as most Socks fans when he
heard that Raphael Devers was traded.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I was just numb, like I was in my car
and I just couldn't believe it.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
It threw a wrench in the excitement he'd been feeling
as a Liverpool fan. The team had just broken a
Premier League record to sign German midfield They're Florian verts.
Shortly after, Red Sox fans started blaming Liverpool for the
Devers trade, and Liverpool fans just gloated back with their
new toy. Red Sox podcaster in Liverpool fan Liam says
this sibling rivalry dates back to when John Henry first
bought the soccer team.

I always think of it as like the first child
being scorned. Now there's a second child and you want
to be the favorite. And obviously, I mean Liverpool are
their own massive brand.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
As for who they'd rather have.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
I'm gonna say no, I think I would have rather
have kept Devers.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
It's really tough, but I would probably pick the Devers.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
The Red Sox insists the trade was purely a baseball move.
