Hingham Trades Fireworks For Drone Show During Fourth of July Festivities

It is just a giant television screen up.

In the sky.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
That's Marco Bord, chair of the Harbor Development Committee, who
gave me a little sneak peak of the drone show
on tap for Hingham's Bathing Beach. It's a change from
the traditional fireworks show, mainly due to some new Ish residents,
endangered nesting birds called oyster catchers.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
They found a home here during COVID on one of
our islands and they haven't left, and so we are
precluded on the federal law from disturbing them, so we
can no longer do fireworks.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
They have three hundred drones ready to tell Hingham's history,
and Board thinks they'll start taking more of the celebratory
spotlight nationwide.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Because ultimately, environmentally, I mean, while we love fireworks, the
amount of pollution that they create, the smoke.

Speaker 5 (00:39):
The noise, you know, it's something different.

Speaker 6 (00:42):
So life is full of traditions, but traditions change, and
so we are starting a new tradition and I think
it's going to be great from Hingham.
