Speaker 1 (00:00):
Turtles that got stranded on the Cape eons ago were
pretty much destined to become a crab's five course dinner.
These days humans have a hand in sparing them that fate.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
It's kind of an ICU for a lot of these animals.
They're going to be getting medications. They get a broad
spectrum antibiotic that's in fluids.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
That's Adam Kennedy, who runs the New England Aquarium Sea
Turtle Hospital in Quinsy. The hospital is currently looking after
more than two hundred turtles and for the cold shock
their system. The turtles would swim south for winter, but
the long arm of the cape keeps them trapped.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
So they'll spend anywhere between five to eight nine months here.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
This is happening more and more, Adam says, because the
Gulf of Maine is getting warmer, confusing the turtles and
leading them into Cape Cod Bay. The turtles that stay
the longest get names.

Speaker 2 (00:42):

Speaker 1 (00:43):
They'll eventually get released back into the ocean where they belong.
