North Shore Man Trades Grass For Pollinator-Friendly Flowers

Aurelio Dimiko got tired of mowing his front yard all
the time here in Swampskot, and he learned about the
declining number of pollinators and decided to replace the grass
with wildflowers.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
I decided to rip everything up, and I looked into
what were the native flowers that naturally are occurring in
this area should be if there weren't lawns everywhere, And
I ordered those seas and I planned them. This is
the second year that I've done it.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Its front yard, with its wide variety of wildflowers, is
an explosion of color that's constantly changing. He's visited by
neighbors who stopped by to see all the wildflowers, and
so do well fed bees and hummingbirds.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
I'm fifty four years old. Never saw a hummingbird in
my entire life until I plan in this garden, and
now I've seen four or five of them every year
from Swampscot.
