Speaker 1 (00:02):
Live from the Mercedes Benz Interview Lounge.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Someone and find Nick Jonas, bring him to me. Hello,
there he is, happy day one for the new album
Midnight Sunday Best Out and now it's a whole new live.
How are you feeling about the Rings so far today?
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Incredible? You know, early reactions are just the best.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
You know. I love seeing people shout out their favorite song.
And it was important me to put this whole thing
out and just give you know, the audist chances to
digest it and kind of you know, apply it to
their own life and find their connection points.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
And I love I love seeing that.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Last night I actually played the whole album in its
entirety live the first.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Time, right here in New York City Urban Plaza. It
was an amazing show.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
And then the blue note, the world famous blue note
in the Village Tomorrow Night, and then.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Blue note well in La actually so wait.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Wait, Nat, there's a blue note in La yea that
they can't have that out there. That's in New York.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
They're always they're always copying.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
You know what, Nick, What I'm hearing from all of
my friends who've heard every inch of the album Sunday
Best they say all solo albums are very personal. This
is ultra personal stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
You know.
Speaker 5 (01:14):
I wanted to give people a window into my life
and kind of my experiences of the last couple of years.
And and you know, between Gut Punch and songs like Princesses,
which is about my daughter, and you know, all of it,
it's just it's got that sort of window into my world.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
So when you open this window into your life, are
you you're actually looking through that window at yourself? I
mean it must be very, very very cathartic to learn
more about you in the process.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
I mean I think that you know, it's it's taking
about two and a half years to make this record,
but in some ways I feel like it's it's thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Three years, you know, snapshots of my.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Life and my experiences that just took some time to
sort of find a way to articulate.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Sunday Best, of course, the album from Nick Jonas that
came out at midnight, I got to take. I got
to say, before we get back to the album, your
interview with Jay Shetty was amazing talking about your daughter
and bringing her into this crazy world of ours in
a crazy way. And I don't think I've ever seen
you be so personal about something that's that most people
(02:17):
would find very private. Are you still feeling that was
a great, great interview you did with Jay.
Speaker 6 (02:22):
Yeah, We've known Jay for a long time, and the
safety out of knowing that you're speaking to a friend
allows for, you know, things like some of the topics
we discussed to be a bit more natural and for
that for that doorway to be open.
Speaker 7 (02:37):
I know that this is not obviously your first solo album,
but this is maybe your most personal What are the
nerves like before it comes out?
Speaker 4 (02:48):
There's not a whole lot of nerve, and it's just
you hope that people kind of find a way to
connect with it in their own way. Obviously it's my
experiences in my life, but I think I tried to
write it from a place where, you know, you don't
have to have lived exactly my life or my experience
is to know what it feels like to you know.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
For instance, sweet to Me is the first song on
the album, is.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Probably my favorite, and it's just about wanting to reconnect
with that inner child and kind of the safety of
growing up in a small town where you know, everyone
knows each other's names and there's just a simplicity to it.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
As you get older and some of.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
These situations happen in life, it just gets harder and
harder to kind of access.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Those those memories. But I think that nostalgia kind of
lives in all of us.
Speaker 7 (03:31):
So when you talk about connecting to your inner child,
what are the ways you do that?
Speaker 4 (03:36):
I think, you know, honestly through bes seeing the world
with the wonder that our daughter sees the world. She's
four now and got such a great perspective and outlook
and disposition. And I think you know, trying to find
ways to explain simple things like why why is glass clear?
Speaker 3 (03:52):
It's like, that's a good question. You can give the
scientific response look at it. Sometimes you have to, Yeah,
sometimes you have to. You have to come up with
something that helps shape, you know, the sort of the worldview.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
And that's incredibly exciting and you know, I would say
frightening prospect when it's so rewarding.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
And now, I know you're very private, and you and
Prianca are very private about your personal life and being
a mom. I know you know I want to protect
my kids no matter what. So before you would go
on to Jay Shetty and talk about something like this
and talk about like these things that are going on
in your life or how she came into the world.
Did you and your wife sit down and say, okay,
(04:33):
we're ready to share this, this is okay. Is it
like a joint decision on something like that.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (04:38):
Absolutely, I mean everything is you know, you know, we
always try to make sure we're on the same page
and that we're in lockstep and that in that way.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
You know, doing doing these Sunday sessions, the intimate live
performances just after you come off this massive tour and
then I'm looking down the list of other stuff you
have coming up. Now you've got a lot going on.
Is are you finding that now that you and your
brothers have reconnected on stage and in the studio with
each other, that it's this is just a journey that's
(05:09):
going to continue until so when pulls the plug on
you or do you have to push a pause button
at some point and go, I need a minute so
I can enjoy all this great life I'm living.
Speaker 9 (05:19):
I think you know, the good news is we really
genuinely enjoy what we do and getting to perform for
our fans, both brother stuff and solo and if we
didn't enjoy it, then, I don't think you know, we
we'd be doing as much as we are. But there
are times we find those windows to just kind of reset, disconnect,
(05:40):
try to have some quiet time as a family.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
And for sure, well Sunday best of course, the latest
solo album from Nick out as of midnight last night,
and he's all over the world talking about it. I
know you'll be in la tomorrow and then London and
you've got so much going on. But let me ask you,
this is adulting fun for you? Are you starting to
understand You know, I'm sixty seven years old. I really
haven't figured out the adulting thing. I know it's kind
(06:04):
of silly to say that. Are you really getting into
the rhythm knowing that your your family, your your wife,
your child, your brothers, your family and their families. It's
a whole other world. Do you enjoy it?
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (06:17):
And no.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
Right, being young and not having to worry about all
the things you have to worry about as adult is great.
But you know, I think that perspective and life as
we just talked about, have a kid and see what
that what your worldview becomes, is a thousand times more
rewarding and more fun than just having no care in
(06:41):
the world.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
But yeah, I mean it's it's good and bad.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
I would say, right, it will be forevermore. But the
difference is now with Sunday Best Out, you're telling your
story and that's that's I think that's a great step
and I'm looking forward to hearing every square into this album.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Nick.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
You know what they told me when I was pregnant
with my kids. They said, you know your part acting
your kid right now. It's in your belly. Just wait
till it gets out and it breeds that Jersey air.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Oh yeah, here we go.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Yep, it's a rude awakening for everyone.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Anyway, Nick, thank you for coming on, play some music
from the album and tell the brothers we said hi
and all the best to you and your family.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Okay, thank you so much. Great talking to you guys,
