Speaker 1 (00:01):
Get you hit us together and we're gonna start and party.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
I'm ready to party. The Elvis Duran After Party podcast.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
Something so funny, something different. We're talking about our favorite
pots and pans. Kids, let's go away. But there's more
to this Caraway story today, of course, the CEO of Carraway,
Jordan Nathan's on with us. Hi Jordan, welcome to the podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Hey all this follow you. I'm tapping me on.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Well, I'm fine because no one's suing me right.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Now, happening.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
That could change by the end of the day. But look,
you know, let me just bring you up to speed.
Caraway is by far our favorite, our favorite tools in
the kitchen. They're fun, they're colorful, and of course nothing
sticking to these things. And I don't feel like it's
gonna give me some sort of brain hemorrhaging if I'm
eating food that I've cooked on my Caraway cookware. But uh,
(00:57):
and thank you for our relationship. We love the fact
that the six year old startup is turning into such
a powerhouse in the in the UH, in the cookware
industry and in the circles. But now you're finding that
there's people who want to take you down in a way.
I know, you have to be careful about how to
talk about a lawsuit. Tell us what's going on, because
(01:20):
this is interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah, that's right. So a couple of months ago, we
had a lawsuit file against us from the two biggest
cookwork conglomerates in the world, Group Said and Mayor Group.
They own brands like all Flad, Rachel ray T, fel Analon, Farberware,
and many more. They're over ten billion in revenue, they've
(01:43):
got forty thousand employees. They've been around for two hundred years.
And the lawsuits really focused on the fact that Caraway
is providing an alternative to forever chemical cookware and marketing
that consumers should really you know, shift away from them.
And so it's a really interesting case. But our kind
of goal here is we've actually launched a campaign to
(02:06):
help push more regulation and spread awareness around some of
these big industry players that are preventing progress within our category.
Consumers are asking for products without forever chemicals. There's eight
states that have banned forever chemicals and cookwaar and other products,
and we really feel like it's our duty to stand
(02:27):
up for the consumer. And you know, this case really
shines a light on I think just you know, big
corporations really preventing innovation.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
You know, let's take people back and talk about how
you started Caraway, and it's because of these chemicals in
these pans. Jordan started Careway after just noticing a pan
he left on the stove in the kitchen. Left, left,
left the fire on, and the pans has melted into obliteration. Yeah,
and he's thinking, we're eating this stuff every time we
cook on these non stick pot pans, and it made
(02:59):
you start thinking there's a better way. And that's where
Caraway was.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Born, right, that's right. Yeah, I was twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen,
I accidentally left a teflon fry pan on my burner
for about forty five minutes and my whole apartment was
filled the fumes. I actually got teflon poisoning from those fumes.
Started feeling nauseous and lightheaded, and discover that what we
(03:23):
were cooking off of was potentially not great to be ingesting.
And so we know, we launched the brand to create
non toxic cookwear, but also really helped consumers move away
from forever chemicals and plastic and really interestingly forever chemicals.
There's over fifteen thousand types. They're in almost every consumer
product today. They're in everyone's blood, they're in our soil,
(03:45):
they're in our environment, and they are just incredibly expensive
to clean up. It's going to take hundreds of billions
of dollars and talking with a lot of legislators and lawmakers, really,
the only solution to this is to just stop making
them in the first place, especially in categories where there
are alternatives. And so, you know, we've really brought a
new material to the category and clearly, you know, some
(04:09):
some larger conglomerates who are kind of rejecting the notion
of that progress have taken issue with it.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Wow. So look, we love our Careway so much. Even
if it was filled with arsenic, I would use it's
so colorful and fun.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Love it.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
It looks amazing.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
But you know, and that's that's what turned me on
to Careway to begin with, Jordan, all of us, because
you know, you can look at your teflon coded pans
or maybe whatever coded pans you have that you've had
for years, and you see things flaking off. You're like, well,
where's that going, Well, it's going into your body. Is
where it's going. And so not only is Caraway beautiful
(04:49):
to look at, we feel like we made the right
decision in buying Carraway. Any thoughts for Jordan or questions?
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Yeah, I mean, you know, I I love a story
of like a damn the man, the underdog fighting their
way out. This is amazing fight big cookware. I'm all
about it. I just what are you going to do?
Are you able to fight this fight against this humongous corporation?
Can we help you?
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Well, appreciate you bringing me on to help spread awareness.
You know, we're fighting this to the end. I think,
you know, stepping back, this is really about the consumer
and what they want. There wouldn't be you know, eight
state spanning forever chemicals and more coming if this isn't
where the industry was headed. And for us, it's really
an opportunity to, I think, take on something bigger than
(05:35):
care Away itself. And so, you know, I think our
encouragement to consumers is really to you know, understand the
products that you're buying, ask for transparency, and we actually
have a change dot org petition which you can you know,
view on our website. We've got fifty thousand signatures and
under a month, and we're going to be taking that
to lawmakers and legislators to help remove forever chemicals from
(06:00):
the market, not just in cookware but other categories.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Right, So how can we how can we help? Is
there somewhere we can go? And or do we show
up at the at the at the courthouse and dance
on the suv out front like Michael Jackson?
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Or what? Do we do a lot of fun? But yeah,
come check out our change dot org petition. You can
see it on our site Carraway home dot com. You
can check it out on change dot org. We also
have an amazing prime day sale if you want to
make the switch to Carraway Ceramics. So there you go.
(06:33):
Come check us out there.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Yeah, while we were talking doing this conversation, I threw
away my Rachel ray frypan.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Yes there she is.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
She's a friend, but I have to let her go.
But look, you know, I thank you so much for
making us where we knew how how important this line
of cookwear is to you and now to us. But
now that you have, you know, big cookware coming at you,
and you kind of wonder, well, can't why don't they
just eliminate those chemicals, and why don't they just play
(07:08):
play right? You know it has to do with money,
does it not. It's fun.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yeah. The irony of the situation is they sell five
other materials that don't have forever chemicals in them. They
own the factories, so there's nothing really preventing them from,
you know, shifting their products to the material. Wow.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Wow, what's what's the site say that you're looking at? Gandhi?
Speaker 1 (07:29):
I went to carraway home dot com to check it out,
and there's a little tab that says join our fight,
and it actually says big Cookwear wants to silence us.
We're not backing down. We're fighting for a world without
forever chemicals. They are suing us for it, so you
can sign the petition right there.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
So great. It feels very bully bully ish, bully esque.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
It feels like they're just like trying to push around
the little guy because they're just the big, big, big
people and it's like, no, what they're doing is wrong,
and also pointing us Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
That's the thing they're pushing on a litt guy who's
trying to like make it right. So, Jordan, when you
used to already this Cookquer company. Do you ever in
a million years think it would end up where we
are today, where you are today talking about this, Uh,
not at all.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
I mean it's just me and a few people and
we're trying to sell some cookwear, and I mean it's
been an amazing journey. It's been only six years. And
I think the fun thing is while we started with
cook where the brand stands for so much more. Now
we're really about the non toxic home and empowering the
next generation to live, you know, a healthier life than
(08:31):
we did. And so you know, we're so thankful for
our community and our customers, and you know, I think excitingly,
we've got so much more to build and grow into.
So you know, I would say to our team, we're
really here to build a brand that's going to be
around for one hundred years, and we've got a lot
coming over the next couple of years, which is really.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Exciting, excellent, and we'll keep an eye on everything that
you do. Yeah, removing the toxic from the home. If
only you could remove the toxic people from my home. Wow, Okay,
I would support that as well. If you want to
know everything about Carroway Home, you can start at cat Carraway. Brother,
you can start at Carrowayhome dot com. Go there. Yeah,

you and see where you go, and we're behind you
one hundred percent. Thank you so much for sharing your

Speaker 2 (09:31):
Amazing. Thank you all appreciate it.
