Speaker 1 (00:00):
Eat Pittsburgh and iHeartRadio station guaranteed human.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Rudolph gets a snap, need a purse down thrown and
bat it down at the line of scrimmage in that
football game, the Suitors will lose here at Soldier Field,
they will lose their lead in the AFC Nord, and
the Bears will win thirty one to twenty eight.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
And it almost didn't feel that close at the end,
but it was. I mean, they had a chance to
win that game there. Now, if that ball doesn't get
knocked down at the line of scrimmage, it's not going
to be completed. DK was not open. Mason Rudolph was flailing.
They looked like a very confused, hurry up offense. Oftentimes
(00:50):
that's the case even with a starting quarterback.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
But with Mason back there and.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Wide out too, I just don't I just don't think
pose a threat to any defense. There was never any
danger of the Steelers getting a first down there. Mister
Wednesdays here on a Monday for US Today, Jeff Conkole
hanging out with US Morning Live in studio as we
review Steelers thirty one twenty eight loss to the Bears
in Chicago yesterday.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
And they had a chance. They had a chance right
to the very end.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
Is there ever a situation though, when you're in that
third down games, you know, game tying situation on the line,
but you're back, you know where were they on their
own thirty five or something like that? They had a
long way to go still with forty five seconds left? No,
did okay, did you feel like that? Did you at at.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
Any point think we got this?
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Yeah, because we have Boswell we needed I didn't even
think we could get there. They were at their forty
seven yard line. They needed, they needed one more first down,
and they have a Boswell field goal. Now a lot
of people are upset that they didn't try this sixty
four yard field goal or sixty five yard field goal
for r right here.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:56):
I mean as soon as I saw warming up on
the sidelines, I was like, we're fine.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
I need Well absolutely.
Speaker 6 (02:03):
I was just like, we can tie it and then
and then we won't be fine. After we tie it.
At least we could die it.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
I don't think that was a high percentage kick in
any way, shape or form. Boswell lets them know what
he's good from before the game in a dome.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
Yes, kick it yesterday on that field. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
I just said, let Boswell line up at wide receiver.
He's that clutch. I would have expected him to get open.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Somehow, you might have had a better opportunity than what
they had out there yesterday. The Steelers receiving is just
not a threat. Everything is. I mean, they take dink
and dunk to a new level with Arthur Smith's uninventive offense. Somehow,
statistically it looked not so awful for your Pittsburgh Steelers.
They out rushed them one hundred and eighty six to
(02:53):
ninety nine, and from passing perspective, Caleb Williams had a
pretty decent day two hundred and twenty nine yards to
Mason's one hundred and fifty nine.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Mason was bad, rural bad.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
He was not good, and he will He'll be the
first person to tell you that that interception to start
out the game, in which they crack off nine yards
on the first play, just pound the rock.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
Their linebackers are all injured. Run the ball all day
right away. Hey, you got DK one on one there, Darren.
You need to take a shot.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Fine, but you cannot underthrow him there. And Mason makes
the critical mistake. He underthrew Roman Wilson later in the game,
and that was like a wolf mass, like like what
business right again? And Wilson ended up you know, turning
dB and playing pretty good defense on that one to
(03:49):
save another interception.
Speaker 7 (03:51):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Just a brutal day for a really boring and incapable
Steelers offense. And I'm telling you right now, Steelers football
hasn't been this unfun in a long time.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
It's just not fun. It's not now. If Aaron Rodgers
plays yesterday, is there a different result.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
I'd like to think so. I'd like to think so.
I think you can just chalk it up possibly too.
The backup was in and it was a close game.
It was a one possession game right down to the
last play of the game basically, so all right, that
can shift the balance there. But defensively, I know they
came up with the stripsack touchdown. Mike was pointing this out.
(04:33):
They had two big stops three and out to get
the offense the ball back when they needed it in
the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
Prior to that, though, letting.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Up thirty one points in the first place to this
offense when they were playing the softest zone defense that
made absolutely no sense to me the entire game. I
just can't give them the credit that he wants to
give them. Also, the defensive line I thought lost the
the battle and the trenches yesterday.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
You said it, I think in the last break.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
But like those Bears receivers were open, like a seven
to eleven, like they're the sheer radius of no defenders
in their area. It made you think like people slipped
on the line or something like that.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
Did one close? He just walked right in.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Just wide open, running down the field on a vertical
both touchdown.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
That was college ball. It was bad. All right. Well,
I'm more in that coming up for you.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
But but you know, prior to the game, Abby, so
much went on this weekend and uh.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
I know Jeff went to the same show I went to. Uh.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Saturday, I did the small As Watch. We'll talk about
that later. But yeah, Friday I completely forgot. I bought
tickets to Steve Martin and Martin Short at the Beninem Center,
and I got a text message on Thursday night that
was like, here are your tickets.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
Wasn't surprise alert? Pleasn't surprise alert? Oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
I spent a lot on tickets and I forgot about
it seven months ago, so there was no like I
just won't go. It's like a right, I was really
looking forward to stay at home, but I went. I
loved it, and I'm anxious to hear what you have
to say about it.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
But you went on Light Up Night and the same
thing happened.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
My sister bought us tickets like eight months ago.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
So it's one of.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
Those things that you say, yeah, that sounds awesome, and
then on Thursday she's like, don't forget we have those tickets.
On Saturday, I was like, oh cool, and then my
wife looks at me and she goes.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
That's on light up night. We can't go. We can't
go down to Pittsburgh on light up night? What are
you crazy?
Speaker 5 (06:40):
Like, no self respecting pittsburgher wants anything to do with
any Light up Night anything at all. But we were like,
she bought the tickets, like we gotta.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
Go, Like my parents were going.
Speaker 5 (06:51):
It was just in me, like the six of us,
like my sister, her husband, my parents, and us. So
we were like, all right, let's suck it up and
let's go.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
Now.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
Our neighbors are from Houston. They've never been to Light
Up Night.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Before.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
So they're like, we want to go to Light Up Night.
And they were like, do you want to go with us?
And we're like, not a chance. This is months ago,
so anyway, not a chance. I'sgay? Am I going to
Light Up Night? So long story short, they were supposed
to babysit our kids, but they wanted to go to
Light Up Night. So through some cajoling, we're like, all right,
(07:26):
let's go all down together.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
You take our kids to Light Up Night.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
We're gonna go see the show, we'll converge, we'll meet
back up here after the show's over.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
That type of thing. Now, it's very nice, Well we try.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
They're they're like basically like you know, aunt and uncle
to our kids, like sort of at this point.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
So we trust them.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
But it was harrowing because my wife is my wife
thinks that every light up night there's gonna be a
dirty bomb.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Like she just thinks that.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
There's shenanigans, there's gonna be some kind of international incident.
So we leave the kids like we were walking across
the Warhol Bridge. We leave the kids with our neighbors
and we're like, hey, goodbye, stay safe and everything like that.
We go to Cafe Milano to go eat before before
the show. Great place. We're talking to this woman who
(08:13):
comes in off the street, like looking like really haired
and like we're like oh, and we're like, how is
it out there?
Speaker 4 (08:18):
She's like, Oh, it's nuts out there. There's some kind of.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Stabbing that caused a big stampede.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
There's people all over the place.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
There's people getting pepper sprayed, there's tear gas, and my wife.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Is just like, aha, okay, okay, everything would be fine.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
I can't wait to laugh at Martin Short and Steve
Martin and your kids are now there. They're just in
the city with our neighbors around, maybe being arrested.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
We're not sure if they're part of the problem, like
none of us. You know, I don't think they stabbed anybody,
but we don't know they were. They were into it too,
but they're being interviewed by Marty Griffin.
Speaker 5 (08:54):
It was like just that alone was like and then
we're texting our neighbors like everything okay, and they're like,
we'll tell you about it later because they know they
don't want to totally ruin them. Like we haven't even
walked into the theater yet, Like we're about to go
have fun. So they're they're trying to slow roll it
there like everyone's fine, we'll tell.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
You about it later.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
But yeah, So I mean that I think what the
deal was, like you guys said in the earlier break like,
it wasn't anything.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
I don't know that there was actually anything like the
big incident. I think that was just like a prank
or whatever. But my older son I was like, what
was going on out there? He's like, there's people swearing
and smoking, and there's two people that got in a
fist fight right in front of me. And he's ten
years old. There's like two women like straight.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Up like like getting into a fist fight right in
front of him, you know, over what over you know,
elf on a shelf placement.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Like I don't know what was going on down.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
There, but it just made me again resolve to be
like that's for other people, not for us, Like that's
not gonna be something that we do going forward.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
And then a woman threw a slurpee on a man
during Joe Gershi.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
He said, yes, I mean it was so weird because
when we got down there, the sister bridges are, you know,
they're lit up, like there's there's tons, tons of people
downtown and you just sort of thought, You're like, this
is it, Like, this is society congealing back together.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
We can do it.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
This is this is how downtown is supposed to feel
in this time of year. There's economic activity, people smile,
and people with their families, people at restaurants, and then
slurpy Gate and teenagers causing a stampede.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Well, I mean those teenagers are always around Market Square,
you know, for the past few months they have been,
and they do kind of the same stuff all the time.
And they it's like a swarm of mosquitoes. Yeah, like
they're over there. Now they're here, and they're it's just
like causing bedlam. And I keep wondering, like where are
they from? Like where where they because in my opinion,
nobody lives in the city, not not that age, I
(10:54):
don't think. But at any rate, The Light Up Night
Shenanigan's None with Standing Steve Martin and Martin Short, I'm
sure you loved it as much as I did.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
So good and it was like it really felt to
me like bridging the gap between a older generation of
show like show biz, almost vaudeville comedy like it wasn't
quite stand up like. It was a show like there
was all sorts of elements to it, music and dancing
and singing and comedy and pranks and gags and you know,
(11:28):
props everything like that, and it just felt like this
is as complete a comedy show as you can possibly get.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Yeah, I loved everything about it.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
I was wondering the same thing as I looked around
and saw that most people were my age was the
youngest there. Well, yeah, it was a pretty older crowd
pretty much. But the appreciation for only murders in the building,
I think is what brings a lot of people there.
And then you know, they of course acknowledged that and
the success they have on that show, but those guys
(11:57):
are still pretty fearless for their Martin's eighty yeah, and
he is ripping on a banjo and I mean that
is hard to do it.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
Seventy five and he's he's like bulgarian split squatting up
to a grand piano and like break dancing on it practically.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
I mean that's press was.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
In a nude suit and running around and doing the
old Martin short moves that he became so famous for.
I don't know what it was like on Saturday Night,
but they had a video like prelude to the show
that highlighted some of their famous SNL, SE, TV and
movie you know, highlights through the years, things they were
(12:38):
known for and some things you might not have seen
that were hilarious. Friday Night, it was a major Lee
pro Steve Martin audience.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Every one of the Steve Martin clips was like ah.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
And there were so many of the Martin short ones
they chose that weren't getting a laugh at all, and
I'm like, this is this isn't justice, This is not
justice at all. Because one of them was Nate Thurm,
the character he did on SML where he's the lawyer
with the cigarette.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Oh yeah, why would I be nervous? Maybe spent some
less time on sixteen minutes And to me, I'm like,
that's a character he had any idea.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
It was one of his old SETV sketches which a
shower in a box.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
They didn't like. Nobody knew that. It was like shower
in the box is the best.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
And I kind of was wondering, like, is he gonna
get short ripped when he comes out here?
Speaker 4 (13:22):
No pun intended, And he didn't know he was.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
I mean, he got the biggest laughs of the overall
Conco family. I would say is if you had to,
if we had to pick a Sophie's choice between the
two of them, were taking Steve Martin. But after that show,
we were all walking out and be like, man, I
forgot how good he was Martin Short Martin George like
so we we I think we left saying like, man,
we forgot how talented he he is and still or
(13:48):
it was and still is because he's eighty.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
There's an element like going to see McCartney the week
before of Kissing the Rings and I just want to
see it. Yeah, my expectation are low, and I've seen
them before do this same tour and they probably did
sixty sixty five percent of the same show they did
last time they were in town. But my expectations are
low other than I just want to go there and
(14:11):
be around Steve Martin because I love Steve Martin so much,
and same with Martin Short. For me, though like both
of them and their friendship makes perfect sense to me.
His timing skill, like acumen, comedic sensibilities for that age.
I just don't know if people understand what a unique time.
(14:32):
We are living in my dad's seventy one and he
was watching Martin short at seventy five do like cartwheels
and stuff, and you could see him just.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Be like, good God, look at this guy, Like that's incredible.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
How is Paul McCartney on stage doing what he's doing
at his age?
Speaker 4 (14:46):
How is Steve Martin doing this still?
Speaker 3 (14:49):
We we haven't let go of people that we made
famous five decades ago because they're still performing at a
high level.
Speaker 5 (14:59):
That most these people can't touch three words nic stem
cells exactly.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
That's like keeping everybody alive. That might be it.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
But to me, somebody had asked me how the show
was on Saturday, and I said, well, I had tears
in my eyes many times that like I'm.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
Not like balling, but like just out of I love reverence.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
I just love some like you do three Amigos songs
to me, like, I immediately like I'm in the theater
with my dad and we're the only two people in
the theater in you know, Cinema World and Eerie pa
on a Tuesday night during you know, one of the
nights I got to hang out with my dad and
laughing our balls off at it.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
Yeah, and they're singing that song.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
So I'm boom, I'm put back there, and that's not
why I'm I'm just so happy to see it all.
And I described it as a big bowl of comedy
soup where you're like, oh, this is soup sick.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
This hits the spot where it just warms your whole body.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
That was the comic effect of that show for me
is I felt like a comedy blank it wrapped around me.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Now.
Speaker 5 (16:01):
The only thing that did take us out of the
show was because it was a generally elderly population. The
woman behind us was laughing so hard that it was
flaring up her asthma or something like that.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
So as they're doing the like there's a couple of
bits there killing.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
She's and if you could just see the germs flying
over our head down into the mezzanine.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
It was that took us out of the show a
little bit.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
It was interesting too when they showed uh, they did
like a Show and Tell with pictures that all had
like their jokes were just so funny, like they're just
perfect jokes because they're master craftsmen. But when they showed
the picture on set at only murders in the building,
and they showed Meryl Streep. The place went nuts, and
I was like, this is because everybody is happy that
(16:50):
Martin Short is dating Meryl Streep. Think about this is
their favorite celebrity couple at the moment.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
I totally forget about that. But his singing Martin Short
is still amazing.
Speaker 7 (17:04):
Well.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
I never knew that he had pipes like that. Yeah
he was. He's always had that, man, But you.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Know, Steve had a little bit of those moves. To me,
he was like the the movie all of Me. Steve
Martin should have wont An Oscar for for the physical
comedy in that alone was incredible, and they both have
elements of that, like the physical part.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
Of their comedy. That man of famous like.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Steve Martin, I mean, he literally did a bit called
happy Feet when he was in his wild and crazy
guy days. But there's there was one part where he's
trying to get Martin Short off the stage and he
does like this dance and he's like trying to show
him and I was like, there it is.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
There's the happy feet. He still can do that, And.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
Then Martin shorton is doing the ed grimly thing all
over the stage.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
Collective Ages one hundred and fifty nine years old. Do
you want to know?
Speaker 5 (17:52):
What was also nice is that I feel like I
don't see this in any comedy right now. Is there
was some serious mugging, oh Steve, like like aren't in
short especially was making funny faces as accents and punctuations
to everything that was going on. And it did add
so much. And I sort of compare that with a
lot of stand ups today who don't. I don't know
if they think it's lame or they think that it's
(18:13):
it's trite or hack or whatever like that, but it
actually adds so much to the show. Don't you just
don't you know, you don't give it the respect that
it deserves.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
I think, but it meets that comedy. It doesn't work
for every kind of comedy. You know. Here's the other
big advantage of going to a show with all seventy
year old plus people they don't know if they're doing.
You can really get in and out of there quick.
You can get a drink quick, you can get to
the bathroom quicker than anybody. True, you just get to
navigate the theater. It's just like all rookies everywhere. You know,
(18:44):
it's just a bunch of people.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
Going where a lot of people in the railings.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Yeah, just realm fly right past them. I love the
in and out nature of it all. And you need
a drink. Oh there's a big line. Yeah, that's because
they don't know there's.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
No line at the other one. Let's go to the
other one. These people aren't going to the other line.
They think that other wing is a whole other building.
They're not gonna dare go over there.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
So I do love that it's, you know, manipulating the
landscape when it's dotted with people who don't go out
much anymore.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
The Benatum two, I mean, like coupled with the fact
that you're seeing two legends that it sort of has
a vaudeville nineteen thirties type action.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
What a good setting because.
Speaker 5 (19:23):
When you sit down in the bend and of the biome,
like you just look around, you're like, they'll never make
another building like this ever again, Like what we're like,
cherished this thing because it's a gem.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
It's a gem.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
Yeah, And then you walk outside and teenagers are stabbing
one another, Slurpees are getting thrown. My kids were in
the melee at some point. Imagine Bob Marley's last concert
was in that place. WHOA really, Oh yeah, that's true.
It's the Stanley Theater. Yeah, Bob Marley's last ever concert
was in that room. And you look around and it's
(19:55):
so ornate and beautiful, and it's hard to remember that.
For a long time it just was. It was always nice,
but it got dilapidated. And then they put a bunch
of money. The Cultural Trust really redid a lot of
the theater down to Heineshall, had a major overhaul. The
ben and have had a major overhaul. I think the
Biome even had a major over Bob Marley concerts there
seems surprising, dude. His last ever show was at the
(20:17):
Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh, which was the Benderdem.
Speaker 5 (20:19):
I think the I think then Incubus at one point
played the ben Atum and like the amount of pot
smoke in the ben Atum apparently over the years is hilarious.
The restoration probably just included scraping the plaster for hash
oil that you just scrape off.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
I remember when Billy Gardell played at the ben and
I mean he drove the Turner's tea car out onto
the stage, all right, but that's how big the load
in is drive a car right onto the stage. So
while I'm sorry that he had the fear of that,
all parents must dread, I don't have my kids with
me and they are in the middle of a melee practice. Yeah,
(20:55):
but glad you had a good time to the show
because a couple of comedy legends. But Abby, I don't
know anything that's happening anymore. I buy tickets and I forget,
how did you not put.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
That in your phone?
Speaker 6 (21:05):
But your phone should be giving you like the automatic
like you bought tickets to this thing, doesn't it? It's
your question, Like I'd like to put this in your
calendar for you, because you're an idiot.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
You know what it is?
Speaker 3 (21:15):
The Cultural District is trying to get around scalping, and
they don't send you the same updates that you usually get.
And they didn't even make the tickets available on the
link they sent me the night before until to fifteen
on Friday, so I couldn't have sold them if I
(21:35):
wanted to.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
Oh no, that's true.
Speaker 6 (21:37):
Even a lot of folks that would win tickets from
us here, they will not get the tickets until like
twenty four to forty eight hours prior to the show.
Speaker 5 (21:45):
I think the other problem is that these shows get
announced like ten months beforehand because they want your life.
I saw Daniel Tosh is coming, I was like, I'd
love to see Daniel Tosh. I looked at it and
it's like August twelfth. I'm like, you mean next August
he's coming?
Speaker 3 (21:59):
Like what then they get to hold your money? Yep, yeah,
holding your money is interesting. Steelers were not on the
money yesterday. They lose in Chicago. Mike's got a four
report for you there, and they'll have to have a
quick turnaround on Thanksgiving week for Steelers Bills Sunday. Now,
that is going to be a four to twenty five
kickoff Sunday at Akroscher Stadium. Is Josh Allen and the

and the Pittsburgh Steelers right here on your radio, home

Speaker 4 (22:32):
Why don't two point five DVE.
Speaker 3 (22:35):

Speaker 4 (22:57):

Speaker 1 (22:58):
There's a road sign up ahead. It's a Chad Tyson
afternoons on DVE from.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
The Bridgeville Appliance Weather Center, known for exceptional service.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
Bridgeville Audio Network are on. Mike Tresuda. I don't know
how you do it. I don't know how you do it.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
There's compensation, Yeah, well that's what the Moneys for.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
Thanks Tom.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Here's Mike with the post game on yesterday's thirty one
to twenty eight loss to the Bears. Did you agree
with my assessment? Though Aaron Rodgers plays that game, it's
likely a different outcome. I didn't say was good if
he's healthy, Well, yeah, that's what I mean.
Speaker 8 (23:35):
I didn't think Mason was bad, but he made a
couple critical mistakes, which we're going to get into here
in a second. Sports That's aw brought to you by
Bridgeville Appliance. That thirty one twenty eight loss to the
Bears could have worked out differently, but didn't like a
lot of the games that the Steelers have won and lost.
From Mike Tomlins standing space on the sideline, it was
(23:59):
a matter of a handful place, and the Steelers didn't
make enough of those.
Speaker 7 (24:03):
Like I just told the team, and it's tight when
it's good on good, particularly when you're in a hostile environment.
Any number of plays could have changed the outcome of
the game. And that's why we just got to live
every dawn singularly.
Speaker 8 (24:15):
Now a lot of people are going to say that's
word salad, coach speak, whatever, but it's actually spot on.
And one of the plays that he's referencing. I said
last hour, if you had a tombstone for this game,
the epithet would be they lined up wrong. Yeah, with
a couple minutes to go and everything at stake. Maybe
the second entry on the tombstone would be second and
(24:38):
twelve from the Bears, thirty seven. They've just fallen behind
twenty four to twenty one. Mason Rudolph drops back to pass,
winds up getting sacked, fumbles and the Bears recover, take
the ball down the field and score. Now they're up
ten and it's a different game. Here's Rudolph on what
went wrong on second and twelve.
Speaker 9 (24:58):
They did a good job of you know, peeling, peeling
off with the left tackle to go and rob that
check down which I was about to throw, and I
saw that and he kind of recocked it and that's
when that's when I got hit. So they covered the
play well, and I just got to do a better job.
Speaker 8 (25:13):
Now he's accurate in his description there. They did peel
a defensive tackle and went the guy went instead of
rushing and covered greg Or Jalen Warren.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
Greg Warren out of the backfield.
Speaker 8 (25:26):
Andrew Billings is six foot one, three hundred and forty pounds.
Jalen Warren is maybe the Steelers' best offensive player. Okay,
they peeled off and covered him. Can your running back
not be a six' one to? Three is that not
an attractive? Matchup can you not throw it to him?
Anyway instead of getting sacked and fumbling and losing the
(25:46):
scoring opportunity where you can at least kick a field
goal and tie the. Game and by the, way that
was a three man rush against a six man protection
and they lost the.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
Ball Well Jnel, Washington, yeah BUT i mean throw the checkout.
Anyway it's a defensive tackle with the daring you to do,
It Like i'm with.
Speaker 8 (26:06):
You just because they do that doesn't mean you can't
throw it.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Anyway but there's an alarming amount of a lack of
football awareness around the. League in situational, football things don't
arise on in these players'. Heads when we were, kids
every sport we, PLAYED i felt like coaches drilled scenarios
into your. Head, baseball, football everything they told you constantly
be mindful of, this that. YETHER i, Mean Caleb williams
(26:32):
did five things yesterday that we're completely stupid and kept
The steelers in the.
Speaker 4 (26:35):
Game, well and you watched it more well beyond how
you were. Coached maybe it wasn't so positionally focused youth.
Speaker 8 (26:41):
Watching every game that was on television and reading every
article you could read and playing.
Speaker 4 (26:46):
Along, yeah why did they do? THIS i would have done.
That you learned it, yourself right? Right?
Speaker 3 (26:51):
YEAH i mean as that was as we're out of
timeouths and he throws a two yard you, know slant to, gain,
well who's got three guys on?
Speaker 4 (27:01):
Them If i'm, gaining, WELL i just knock.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
It, down you, know like this isn't going at, this
don't give me, this and this isn't.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
Going, anywhere and it's just gonna. Bleed. Clock i'm pulling
you away from your.
Speaker 8 (27:10):
Point, no THAT'S i mean that that's one of a
handful of plays that you can't allow that to. Happen
you can't line up incorrectly when the game's. Online you
can't turn the ball. Over we talked about turnovers coming
in this. Game, Hey chicago's ability to generate turnovers was.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
Real they were the best team in the league at.
Speaker 8 (27:29):
It you had to stay away from, that that's What
that's why they tried to stay away from the middle
of the field as much as they, did because that's
where the turnovers. Are but to, me the two fourth
downs that they didn't, make the tush push and the
one at the end of the, game those are also.
Turnovers because you're turning the ball over on, downs you
are not scoring.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
Points and the thing about that's where the turnovers.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
Are you do have to if you're, saying well you
got to take a risk of throwt downfield when you
have single, covers well you got to take a risk
of throat in the middle of the field when they're
on their four or fifth and six. Linebackers different. Risk
and and attacking the flat is attacking the. Linebackers running
the ball is attacking the. Linebackers, well, look you, know
AND i know you want to absolve the defense degree.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
Resolve, it But i'm just saying offense was good for
twenty one of the twenty eight points.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
Yesterday Kyle dugger comes up with an interception at the
end of that first, half they don't get three. Points
there dropped It toms a sudden different game turnovers there was.
Speaker 8 (28:29):
Their guy made an unbelievable pick on that second snap
of the. GAME i, mean it's under, throne but it
was a great athletic play And dougger dropped one.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
That they threw it right to. Him this is how you.
Lose now are They are they a horrible?
Speaker 8 (28:43):
Team, no but they're not a good enough to win
team in the tight situations That tomlin, identified and, unfortunately
in THE, nfl damn near all the games come down
to the type.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
SITUATIONS i STILL i would love to know how much
Of Arthur smith's offense is designed to be as conservative
as it looks versus what the quarterbacks are situation situation
only deciding on.
Speaker 4 (29:12):
It looked to me a lot of the like because
guys are not open, well but one on one is.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
OPEN i understand That i'm not saying he shouldn't have
thrown that one on second. DOWN i wish we would
have just been, like no matter what, happens we're pounding
the rock. Here but, OKAY i get. It DK's got
a single. Coverage you gotta go to. It you cannot
underthrow that. Ball and ALSO, dk in terms of contested,
catches he's No George, pickens, okay and he's got to
(29:42):
make a better play on that. Ball they are and
not just assume that guy's going out of. Bounds we
were JUST i was texting with some of my.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
Friends we were, like despite being the physical, specimen which he,
IS dk, metcalf he's maybe one of the least physical
receivers that we've seen in a, WHILE i mean relatives
what he could, Do, like it.
Speaker 8 (30:05):
Seems it seems like that agreed they hard to. Tackle
fighting for the ball is not his. Strength it's gonna
have to. Be and the problem, IS i think they're they're,
close but they're not good. Enough but we're deep enough
in the. Season now do you see this stuff getting cleaned?
Speaker 4 (30:23):
Up, No that's the point is this is who they.
Speaker 8 (30:25):
ARE i think they've shown us who they, Are, yeah
which is they'll have a chance to.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
Win but it's fifty to.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
Fifty it's depending on IF tj can get a stripsack
in the end. Zone it, REALLY i, mean basically that's
what every game seems to have been boiled down. To
but that is. There that is what they depend. On
they depend on those lines making huge. Places The bears
are all about. Turnovers maybe even more reason to not
throw that ball on second down there is to put
(30:52):
yourself in a vulnerable position right from the.
Speaker 8 (30:54):
Game, WELL i just think when you get one on,
one you got to take. It hit one or two of.
Those it changes the way they call the. Game and
if you just run every, down they're going to all
come up and you're gonna be running into a brick.
Wall you have to you have to make them think
you at least might do.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
That you also have to know that that's their TALLEST
dB ON Dk metcalf right. There, well it's your. Guy
he's your. Guy say don't throw. It i'm saying you
can't underthrow.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
That throw. It and you asked About rogers at the
start of this.
Speaker 8 (31:22):
Segment would it have been different a bet on the last,
play which was batted down the fourth and Sixth, metcalf
there was a small army around. Him the far hash
safety was cheating Toward metcalf at the snap they Had
austin one on one going down the. SIDELINE i Bet
rogers would have taken a deep shot, there all, right
and maybe he, scores maybe he gets to the twenty yard.
(31:44):
Line that play was doomed to, fail And rudolph tried
it anyway because he's gonna GIVE dk an.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
Opportunity to make a. PLAY i get what he was.
Speaker 8 (31:52):
Thinking they hadn't that success on the deep, stuff but
you got to hit one or two of those a.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
Game if you, don't you're gonna. Lose. Abby you'll have
your news coming up at the top of the.
Speaker 6 (32:00):
Hour there is controversy a foot already at the new airport.

Speaker 9 (33:53):
You?
Speaker 10 (33:54):
Wow? RANDOM i am, fine just getting ready to head
out to O'Hare and When i'm done chatting with you
boys and.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
Girls, so the decision to Play Mason rudolph was apparently Made, saturday, Correct.
Speaker 10 (34:09):
Yes tomlin said he told him On, saturday And mason
said after the game he was Told. Saturday that is.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
Correct so do you have any idea of whether or
not that will Make Aaron rodgers available for The bills
game this Coming?
Speaker 10 (34:24):
Sunday, well And Mike tomlin said after the game that
he's Anticipating rogers playing this. Week you, know there was
a there was a medical question this. Time they were
reluctant to have him, play and typically typically when that,
happens that The tomlin goes along with whatever the medical
(34:47):
staff and training staff. Feel, Obviously Aaron rodgers said he
wanted to, play and he could have played in some
form because we saw him practicing during the, week but they,
just you, know day want to take. LOOK i don't
know how that. FRACTURE i don't know if it's a
thin fracture or a significant, fracture you, know but they
were concerned, that you, know if he re injured, that
(35:10):
then he's going to be out even. Longer and, also
you know we heard him say And Mike thomas say
during the week there was a safety factor there as.
Well kenny protect himself when he, falls you, know you
don't want to brace. Himself that's how he got hurt
really to begin. With so they expect him to be
to play against The.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
Bills so we'll, say why do you think you know
they struggled in the second half coming out in the third,
quarter why did they abandon the run at that?
Speaker 10 (35:34):
Point, well you, know they still ran for a lot of,
yards ran or they ran for one hundred and eighty six.
Yards but we've seen that happen a couple times here
in the last the three or four games where they've
been running the ball, successfully and then in the second
half they kind of get away from. It you, know
(35:54):
they they you, know they were leading at the, time
but you, KNOW i didn't get the sense that they
were abandoning it a, ton because, again they were having.
Success BUT i think the bigger problem is their lack of,
attackability if that's a good word THEY i, mean they
(36:15):
just pick and peck their way down the. Field, NO
i know That's Mason, rulolph but that doesn't mean you,
Know mason likes to attack the middle of the, field you,
know as, much if probably more so Than Aaron. Rodgers
and you, know their longest pass was a twenty one,
yarder which was the second completion of the game to.
Ben'skronic they just don't go down the field any long,
(36:38):
run excuse, me any long pass reception they, have for
the most part is a five to eight yard, pass
maybe a ten yard pass where the guy runs, ten,
fifteen twenty more. Yards and that was so evident when
they needed to score twice when they're just methodically going
down the. Field, now, look they still had a chance
(36:59):
to win the, game but they were just picking and
pecking their way down the field because they just don't
attack with fifteen you know, passes you, know air air
yard into fifteen or twenty yards and try to get.
Chunks and it's a parent and it's been a parent
for a couple of, years but more than a couple
of years Since ben AND i, think you, know early
(37:21):
in the year they had they had a few chunk pass,
plays but all in all those, passes you, know aside
FROM dk metcalf and even half of his he has
eight catches of over twenty or more. Yards and as
we saw In minnesota and other, places what do we
see eight yard slams and he just takes off and
goes twenty thirty. Yards so that to me is, yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
We'll always Have.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
Dublin every time we talk ABOUT, dk remember that one
time driving me?
Speaker 4 (37:47):
Crazy what About? Jerry what about?
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Defensively why such soft zone coverage when you're constantly getting
beat by?
Speaker 10 (37:55):
It, yeah and we saw, them you, know and to your, Point,
randall consistently those slams in the middle of the, field
whether it was To Roman dedunze or you, KNOW Dj,
MOORE a lot of those, TIMES i will say, This
Caleb williams looked Like Caleb williams of twenty twenty four
in the first. Half in the second, half came out,
(38:16):
throwing and a lot of it was because of those quick.
Slants throwing quicker with more confidence and more. Accuracies not
the most accurate quarterback in the Lame.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
Oh, no he kept The steelers in the game with
a lot of bad.
Speaker 10 (38:27):
Throws, yeah he. DID i, AGREE i, REMARKED i couldn't
believe how inaccurate he. Was but as poorly as he
wasn't a first, half he was at least better in
the second, half and he was getting him on those
on those crossing patterns and slants over the. Middle.
Speaker 8 (38:43):
Jarre what's the temperature? There they're six and, five they're
out of first. Place the losses are. Mounting what kind
of sense Of annie did you get a post?
Speaker 10 (38:55):
Game, yeah that, ONE i, Think, mike that one hurt
a little, more a little more hushed in the locker.
Room AND i don't know if that's a byproduct of
being on the road or. NOT i don't really think,
So but you, KNOW i noticed, that and you, KNOW
i you, know they're not the type of teams to,
panic but you know that's That's you're, Right the losses
are mounting and that's four in the last six. Games
(39:18):
they're giving up a lot of points steal every. Game
that's five times they've given up thirty or. More they
haven't done that since twenty and, THIRTEEN i. Believe and
they still have what six more games to, go so
good chance they'll they'll pass that. Mark and while the,
defense you, know the defense did a decent job against
(39:38):
the run ninety nine. Yards it's not shutting them, down
but that was the NFC's top running. Attack they held
them till fifty sixty yards below their per game, average
SO i thought they did a decent job against the.
RUN i don't think the run hurt, them BUT i
think you, Know Caleb williams didn't there what he had
two hundred and thirty some, yards three. Touchdowns he just
(40:00):
continually kept hurting him over the, middle and that was
the bigger.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
Issue next week facing The, bills any Chance Sante samuel
will be up to, speed you might see him in the.
Secondary seems like you're always losing somebody in the secondary mid,
game and then if you are having any, success well
that all goes by the.
Speaker 10 (40:18):
Wayside you, Know, Randa i'll have to check to see
where his progress. IS i will tell you that when
they signed, him they knew he was weeks away from
playing because he hadn't played in so long and they
wanted to make.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
Sure, okay that's news to. Me he was weeks away
from playing when they signed.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
Him that's exactly, Right, OKAY i MEAN i knew he
was coming off with.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
Surgery he hadn't played any. Year, yeah yeh over a,
year over a year since Last september of last.
Speaker 10 (40:44):
Season, yeah so they want to make sure that he's
up to some type of, speed not with what they,
do but with just being able to play.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
Football the bigger, one to me is the bigger one
to me is scantling watching nineteen and.
Speaker 8 (40:59):
Ten if this guy can't run a go route down
the sideline and compliment To metcalf and what's he doing?
Speaker 4 (41:05):
Here, YEAH i, MEAN.
Speaker 8 (41:07):
I don't want to hear any more ABOUT i don't
want to hear any more about how Well Roman wilson's.
Practicing the guy is invisible other than the one nice
play he made to stop an.
Speaker 10 (41:15):
INTERCEPTION i, think, yeah SOMETHING Dk metcalf didn't do on
that first interception of the. Game if you're not going
to get that fifty to fifty, ball then you and
when the other guy's in front of, you you make
sure he doesn't catch. It and that's what he didn't.
Do to start the. Game uh you, know you, know,
Uh Mason rudolph throws the. Pick but that to, me
that's ON Dk metcalf to break that up and he
(41:37):
didn't do.
Speaker 9 (41:37):
That.
Speaker 10 (41:38):
MIKE i will say, This the bigger ISSUE i think
is the lack of productivity From Calvin. Austin if you
go back to the last three or four, Games Roman
wilson has been a lot more productive than. Him he
actually has a couple of, touchdowns which you can't say
about any of the other wide receivers on this.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
Team and so garbage town.
Speaker 10 (41:56):
Here i'm not going to SAY i don't. Care i'm
not going to sit here and Disc Roman wilson when
there are other guys who were even you, know who
were even less. Productive and you could start With john
Oh smith. Too see where is this guy who's ten
million or twelve million a, year who caught eighty five
balls last? Year where is this guy in their attack?
Speaker 4 (42:13):
Nowhere jerry Safe, travels are you flying out of midway or?
