Speaker 1 (00:00):
Video station guaranteed human It was.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
I think that, you know, people got kind of lured
into a sense of safety because it was so gorgeous outside.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
It didn't even look like there was a cloud in
the sky. And then they'd jump in and go, oh
my god.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
I forgot that they were making these pools so cold.
Tad was also down there and jumped and he gave
me because I was down there filming.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
The best delivery.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
He gave me a point and a full belly flop
when he went into the and I was like, perfect delivery.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
I'll have a recap video.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Up little bit. He went in with all the hunky firefighters.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Yes he did.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Tad's a hunky firefighter.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Yes, Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Brandy Bellman and the DV Morning Show.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Law Enforcement, Fire Department, everyone came out for the polar
Plunge on Saturday morning. An unbelievable turnout and a record
setting hall of one point two million dollars for the
kids for the Special Olympians this year, and that's just
an amazing amount. Got to see Caleb, our buddy who
we had in studio here last week, and all of
the Special Olympians who were there to help support the
(01:12):
event and Mayo O'Connor jumped right in in his mayor clothes,
in his mayor outfit.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
But remembered to take off his glasses, which was a
big thing.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
A lot of people forgot to do that, and then
they jumped down.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Chad forgot to take off his sunglasses and didn't expect
to go fully submerged, Yeah, which he said he's never done.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
And yeah, glasses were gone that.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Tyson got he got some air, Yeah he did.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Yeah he did a great jump this year. Yeah, no
doubt about it. I mean everyone did. And it's just
the most fun way to start your day and you're
in a good mood for the rest of the day,
like I always say, after you leave. There so many
nice people and just can't say enough about the fine
work Andrew Fee and all those guys at the Special
(01:58):
Olympics due to raise all that money each year, it's
a staggering total one point two million, and law enforcement
in Western Pennsylvania really comes together to make it work.
It's a real big celebration and shows everyone coming together
in the community under the you know one cause of
let's do this for the Special Olympians. And it feels
good to be a part of stuff like that, especially
(02:19):
these days.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Yeah. I love seeing that big snow moon too.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Yeah, that was crazy.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
I said to Corey O'Connor, I'm like, is that giving
you PTSD?
Speaker 3 (02:28):
It would have for me if I was him?
Speaker 1 (02:30):
What's going on over there?
Speaker 5 (02:32):
All right?
Speaker 2 (02:32):
News this hour brought to you by Keystone Basement Systems,
Wet Basement, Keystone Basementsystems, dot Com cloudies guys today and
a high of forty four. All right, this is a
weird conspiracy theory. Has Jim Carrey been disappeared and replaced
by a clone? Believe it or not, people are actually
asking this after he appeared at the Caesar Awards in
(02:55):
Paris last week. He received a Lifetime Achievement award and
gave his full acceptance speech in French. I want you
to hear a little bit of this too. It was
very impressive.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Lavor de la mare de la generose are.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Ciboulet coulof tune vusi sourier.
Speaker 6 (03:17):
You read the boar.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Difici menu de vaux si s a essay try, Yes.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
He did.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
It was like eight minutes.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
So do you know what happened here? Are you privy?
Are you leading up? To turns out or am I
about to inform you on.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
The French part of it?
Speaker 2 (03:46):
All of it, you, I think, because I was only
going to talk about his appearance, so you might be
informing me on something.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Go ahead.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
Well, a lot of people like, he got the upper
bleft done, his eyes look weird, his eyes are a
different color. Yes, this isn't really him, and they were
being denounced as conspiracy theorists.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Yeah, and people who spend too much time on the internet.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
And people were just defending him, were like, he got botox,
his face looks different like every other Yeah, celebrity, his age.
He's just trying to, you know, keep his face watchable
on a movie screen. Although it's probably less and less
important now since everyone watches stuff on a phone.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
But although with his face, with how cartoonish it can
be and how he's able to manipulate it. If there
was any actor I could think of that would be
terrified to touch their face, it would be him.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Guess what what? It wasn't him.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
No. The Jim Carrey in the video in Paris that
had everyone skeptical over the weekend was artist Alexis Stone,
who impersonates celebrities using latex masking, no advanced latex masks.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Yes, confirmed and confirmed.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Yeah, his eyes Abby. You don't go down enough rabbit holes.
The algorithm for me takes me right into the middle
of the rabbit hole.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
I don't need them. I'm not sniffing around the edge
of the hole. I'm in the hole that hole. It
just thrusts me into the hole. Can't get out of there.
And I live in that rabbit hole. And so that's
what happened there.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
How okay, please please please with the facial movement where
it is on his neck.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
That was not a mask.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
After the ceremony, he walked out and someone asked him
for autographs. He is videoed giving autographs signing with his
right hand.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Jim Carrey is left handed.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Give me uh yeah, So that was just like Jim
Carrey doing a Andy Kaufman thing.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
You have to show me what you are.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
I don't want to get this in your timeline. You'll
never get it off. It's like herpes. It will be
there forever. Okay, you'll have outbreaks of conspiracy on your algorithm.
There is no digital vowel tracks to get rid of it.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Andy, did you actually watch a lot of his acceptance. Yes,
and you're looking at that.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
I'm looking at here's the interview.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
You're watching it and saying, that's not Jim Carrey.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
No, I thought it was. I think he looks a
lot like him. But listen to his voice here. Pretty
big challenge trying to do my speech in French. So
you know, I wrote it, then I researched it, and
I practiced it like crazy.
Speaker 7 (06:41):
But you know it's then I watched everybody like talking
a thousand miles an hour up there receiving their.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Awards, and I was like, I'm dead, But yeah, that's
not him, Yes it is.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Oh my god, I'm seeing all of these photos. I'm sorry.
This is not a Latex mask. That's not how latex works.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Right, Well, i've watched Mission Impossible.
Speaker 8 (07:05):
Have you.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
If it was how Latex works, I'd wear a Latex mask.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Guess what.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Should rip it off?
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Right now?
Speaker 3 (07:14):
I'm sorry. Listen, he looks like he got a little
nip and tuck. That's not great.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
I can't really tell on his eye color the way
that people are talking about. But as people age, your
eye color kind of gets less vibrant.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Sure it does, Ye, it does. Why don't you say
anything's possible with Jim Carrey.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Like, Jim Carrey is a kind of guy who would
plan this whole thing out and be like, I'm gonna
sign some autographs with my right hand, and I'm gonna
tell people because he got the surgery, let's say, and
he knew he looked different, so then he enlisted this
artist to say like, all right, now, after this all airs,
I want you to take credit for it and say
(07:59):
that you did this with a latex mask.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
That's possible.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Now I'm looking even at the TMZ like it is
a tight, tight shot of his face and movie magic
is spectacular, but it is not that spectacular, and latex
masks are not that spectacular.
Speaker 9 (08:17):
Yeah, all right, well we'll see. It'll come out one day, Yes,
yes it will. Like all the conspiracy theories, I love
this for you, I really do. It's the world I'm
living in now. It's it's as real as what reality
is these days. Might as well entertain myself, I guess.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
So they say that AI can be smarter than the
average human, but that really overestimates the human's ability to
train AI.
Speaker 10 (08:45):
I love this.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
A year ago, the Washington State Department of Licensing started
using AI to handle its automated service over the phone,
but callers who pressed two for Spanish didn't actually get Spanish.
They got an AI voice Jim Carrey. It was Jim
Carrey speaking in English with a Spanish accent and.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Larious.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
If you were calling about a vehicle or both, please
press one for English. Thank you for calling the department appointment.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
I love it so obviously you can kill a jacob.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Some people can clearly complained about this, while others found
it hilarious and compared it to the broken English used
by Consuela the Maid on Family Guy.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
Uh, it was kind of a Spanglish, with the only
actual Spanish words being the numbers, like your estimated way
time is less than twice minutes. But the agency has
since apologized and said it fixed the problem, but it
took them a long time to do it. One caller
says they first noticed the issue last summer and it
was still happening last month.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
That reminds me there's the scene from the movie's movie
Bananas where the fake Cuban dictator meets the American Consolate
guy and they have they have an interpreter between them,
but they all speak English, and you just assume that
one of them doesn't and the interpreter.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Interpreter is like, how is your flight? And the guy's
like good, he could good?
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Exactly more AI here, I don't love this.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
That Burger King is rolling out an AI chatbot named Patty,
which is powered by an open AI like the Burger
Patty exactly powered by an open AI base model. Patty
will help employees through a new platform BK Assistant. The
tool will live in the workers' headsets and try to
track keywords related to friendliness, as well as try to
(10:58):
provide support by flagging sould out out items and recalling
limited time ingredients, while it will listen to drive through interactions.
The company says it's not about scoring workers or scripting conversations.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Chief Digital Offer Officer thebault Roue.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Tells NBC News that Patty is really a coaching tool
designed to help employees become more hospitable and address operational issues.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
The system is being tested in five hundred restaurants.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
This seems like one of those like let's find a
use for the AI that we have spent all this
money on things? How much practical application usage is warranted here?
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Like it's Burger King, Hey, just smile.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
I will say that maybe it's going on in other
places and it's getting monitor because I got a drive
through yesterday at Roots you know the natural roots stric Yeah,
those are those balls?
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Are good? Right? Yes?
Speaker 4 (11:54):
And like the woman at the window almost crawled into
the car with me, how are you? How is your day?
Is everything good? And I was like, yeah, it's going great.
She's like, I am so happy to hear that. And
I was like, hey, whatever he meds you're on, can
you put those in my bowl? Because you are delightful?
Speaker 3 (12:15):
Sprinkle a little van X on that, yea Mediterranean bowl.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
I don't trust those. I think that that place is
gonna end up like Chipotle.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
We're getting tricked into thinking we're having healthy, fast casual
there at that Roots place, you know what I mean?
And like we're gonna find out like all of the
vegetables that they use are just like sprayed by a
month santo chemical to keep them preserved for a long time.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
That's gonna make us grow a third arm.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Any time that healthy things.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Are cheap affordable.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Yeah, and those are still kind of expensive, but.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Ten bucks apiece, that's not expensive. And you get grilled
chicken on it and like a whole vegetablel with.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
It, Like yeah, there's a lot of rice.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Or whatever.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Yeah that's okay.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
But well, yeah, if you go with the more pharaoh
or quen wa, sure to be a little more expensive.
But anytime it's not thirty dollars, I'm like, it's too affordable.
This must be better, but it's it's a better It
is a better option. I feel a little less guilty
about it. I do like that they seem happy there.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
They're very happy there.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
It's also like the Trader Joe's cashier Trader.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Joe's are trying to seduce you.
Speaker 9 (13:25):
They want to take you home and have sex with you,
right Like, there's like a sex cult for those people.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
There's pineapples on their registers, right Like, they just want.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
To see what you're buying and if they can eat
it with you later.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
And that's just to distract you from the fact that
everything they have there is processed food, and it's like
the illusion of healthy, right.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
And that way, if you're thinking about having sex with them,
you won't be so mad when you're leaving in the.
Speaker 9 (13:51):
Parking lot and you're like, how much plastic did I
just ingest, not enough, not enough.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
By the way, you know, they don't know what plastic
does to us.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
We know we got a lot of plastic in our body,
but there's no study saying and then this happens. We
just know there's plastic in our bodies. We don't know
what it does to us. So I take comfort in that,
what if it makes us better?
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Who knows?
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Maybe one day our bee holes will seal up like
a tupperware Yeah, exactly, which becoming andy occasionally.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
All right, we said so long to February.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
This weekend, I'll give you a few things to look
forward to here in March, so that we can sprinkle
a little optimism here. Daylight Saving Time starts this Sunday.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
March the eighth.
Speaker 9 (14:40):
Cool.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
We are going to lose an hour of sleep. We
don't sleep anyway, so we don't care about that. But
it won't get so dark so early anymore. So I
like that when March twentieth.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Sorry, like we breathed right through the dark period this year.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
I kind of feel like we did to do you
mean you and I this show specifically, No, I mean Pittsburgh,
all of us, the Royal we the Royal wee.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
I think that, you know, we put our heads down
and got right through it. It wasn't too seasonally effective. Yeah,
all right, you can disagree.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
It just seemed like that to me.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Agree.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
No, I don't think I do disagree. I do feel
like we survived. You know why, because I feel like
we got a little more football.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
Yeah, that might have been it, but it was like,
you know, it's it's light out kind of late right now.
We flipped the clocks.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
This weekend, man, it's gonna be amazing.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Yeah, no, it'll be okay.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
And then March twentieth is the first day of spring officially,
and it does seem.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Like I actually peeked ahead to this weekend's weather. It's
going to be seventy on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Oh good, that holds.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
It'll be seventy on Saturday. I think it's supposed to
be cloudy.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
But after this, well that'd be great if that was
the following weekend for the Saint Patty's Day Parade in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Oh my god, that well, let's hope.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
I mean, because this weekend, even at the polar plunge,
I had a jacket on and I had like a
little kind of a sweater, but it was sleeveless and
I had to take it off and it was only
supposed to be like fifty five.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Yeah, I was very hot at the polar plunge.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
So being seventy this upcoming weekend is insane.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Bust out the short so those finley white legs go.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
By mid month, it'll be March Madness time. Selections. Sunday
is the fifteenth.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
March Madness is great.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
It's because the weather gets beautiful and then you go
sit in a dark bar for eight hours exactly.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Fine one with windows. Then the men start on the seventeenth.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
The women get started a day later, and we get
a new Major League Baseball starts. The season starts a
week after that. The Yankees and the Giants kick things
off on Netflix the night of the twenty fifth, which
is that the first time that MLB will be on Netflix.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
I think so, yeah, I don't remember them doing it
last year, but they may have.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Yeah, I don't remember that either.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Other teams get started on the twenty six and then
when you look to the haliday is of course International
Women's Day, which we all get the basket in the
bouquet and the gift cards for chee cheese that's gonna
be March the.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Eighth International Women's Days. That mean you can't celebrate American women.
You can only celebrate international women and American women have
to be celebrated somewhere else. Or is it International Women's
Day not International Women's Day?
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Ah, yes, no, great question.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
It's like is it Pets Smart or pets March?
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (17:28):
These are tell me by the way that and I
know that's a popular meme is so obvious what it is.
It is written the way you're supposed to say it.
They literally highlight it. It's pet smart. That's how it's written.
The on the sign outside of the place, So.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
Like pet smarter, right, don't be a pet dumb.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
It's like smart.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
The first three letters are read and the last five
are smart in blue. Pet smart not pet smart, but.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Pet smart works. And therefore we ask the question. It's
like every dumb bro with the podcast, I'm just asking questions.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
I'm just asking questions.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
All right, after International Women's Day and we solve all
the gender inequality problems. The seventeenth is Saint Patrick's Day
and then Ramadan ends the night of the eighteenth, So
that's looking ahead to March for.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
You today is cloudy and it is going to be
a high of forty four.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
After awards for SAG last night, some real choice moments,
including a really sweet tribute to Catherine O'Hara.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
We'll have some sound bites of that for you.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
Also, Jerry do you like will be joining us at
seven forty five talking Steelers. Will Kenneth Gainwell test the
free agent waters right out of Pittsburgh?
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Will he swim to another team in them?
Speaker 10 (18:59):
Were?
Speaker 4 (19:00):
Also, I'm gonna tell you about an unbelievable opportunity. If
you're a Buckos fan, you want to get down there
and see Paul Skeens and Connor Griffin knocking a ball
out at the park. Well, we've got a chance for
you to win an all inclusive trip to go down
to Bradenton and root on the Buckos. And it's super
simple how you get involved in that one. I'll give
you the details in just a little bit. Michael be
(19:21):
joining us. He's back from the Combine in Indy with
your sports pens. Yesterday, My god five nothing over the
Golden Knights, and you know it was one of those
games where they were set up for failure after having
to comeback from Manhattan and blowing the game late in
the shootout yesterday or on Saturday, rather than just getting
the loser point. It would have been conceivable that they
(19:42):
would have a tough road to hoe against the Golden Knights.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Alas that was not the case. A shutout for our tour.
Speaker 8 (19:48):
Sheeloffs five forwards on this top power play unit for
the Vegas Golden Knights.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Again, they are fifth in the NHL. Coming here to
today's game. Here's a stretch pass.
Speaker 8 (19:56):
I had shot fired and she Lof's got just enough
on it as they slam another shot just off the
side of.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
The cave, and you can't stop China Cough. Now that
he's got the kid, he's on fire. Out of the boxes, Marner.
We're back to five on five. Penguins still with him
in the Vegas. Soon though, Chinacopp wrestler.
Speaker 5 (20:10):
He scars.
Speaker 8 (20:15):
Igor Chena Copp can't be stopped. Just seconds after the
power play, he showcases that shot and doubles the Penguins lead.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
It's tune nothing, Mike with the full report next and
the Pens all of a sudden without Sydney Crosby doesn't.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Look too bleak.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
Kind of hopeful for a playoff. Picture scenario to unfold
for your Pittsburgh Penguin.
Speaker 10 (20:40):
When you take the highway. Chat and Tyson is always
up for a road trip. He's got a reloaded cut
from Randy Fauman and the DVE Morning Show Sports.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Hey, Chatman, I was wondering if you could dig down
deep for me today.
Speaker 10 (20:54):
And Deep cut requests after News with chat Tyson on
DBE Live from the Dons Appliance as Studios where Pittsburgh
shops for appliance is.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
This is w DVIE Pittsburgh pursuita back from the Combine
and Indy. He's got your sports this morning on DV
Mike Sports is brought to you by Bridgeville Cliants.
Speaker 7 (21:15):
Let's things kick off as Let's kick things off as
we always do at seven point thirty with Mike. Pursuit
has three takes that resonate number one, March of the Penguins.
The Pens were developing into a good story before Sidney
Crosby was injured on the way to silver in the Olympics.
Since NHL play has resumed, they're becoming a better story
(21:35):
in Crosby's absence.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
Aviginny Malkin may not be.
Speaker 7 (21:38):
Getting a contract offer anytime soon, but he's backchecking like
he really wants one. The power play is keeping it
simple without sid Their overall game against Vegas was relentlessly effective,
and the playoffs are becoming a more realistic proposition by
the game. What promises to be a daunting march is
just getting started, but the pens are coming in like
(21:58):
a lion on Ice Number two indi intrigue.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
The Steelers screaming need is a wide receiver.
Speaker 7 (22:05):
But if the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis reminded us
of anything, it's that the Steelers have holes to fill
beyond who catches the passes, and that the upcoming NFL
Draft has plenty of potential answers at positions beyond wide out,
plenty of potential first round possibilities beyond wide out. Veteran
free agency will provide some clarity, but with a boatload
(22:27):
of picks and multiple needs, the Steelers have options, they
may not exercise them in the order you suspect or expect.
Number three March madness. We've got tournament basketball on tap.
Wednesday night at Robert Morris RMU opens the Horizon League
Tournament against Youngstown State. After winning its final seven regular
(22:48):
season games in succession on the way to a second
place finish in the horizon that was seemingly unimaginable in
the wake of the Colonials reaching the NCAA Tournament a
season ago and then losing twelve of thirteen players to
either the transfer portal or graduation. They returned one guy,
and yet here they are again. They've got the tool
(23:10):
and they've got to tell it's about this time? Shall
we dance?
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Lake Persida?
Speaker 7 (23:19):
Little Ghostbusters always goes a long way.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
Typically, how was Indy? You didn't stay for the entire weekend?
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Right?
Speaker 7 (23:27):
Correct?
Speaker 4 (23:28):
But was there a little more interaction with the organization
there as they began to assess it was really, I
mean a lot of omar and that was pretty much it.
Speaker 7 (23:39):
The one thing that really jumped off the page is
how athletic these guys are getting.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
You know, we talked about this with you on Friday,
and it is.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
It's crazy when you think of the speed that some
of these linebackers have. What was that kid from Ohio
State which.
Speaker 7 (23:55):
One Yeah, the brothers the linebacker or the state the
linebacker sunning style. Yeah, he burned his brother the safety burned.
These are average forty yard dash times for position groups. Okay,
defensive line four point eight three best in Combine history
since two thousand and three when they started keeping track
(24:16):
of records.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
Linebackers four point five to five.
Speaker 7 (24:19):
Best, defensive backs four point four to four, best tight
ends four point sixty three, best running backs four point
four to five. Best wide receivers four point four to four.
Best offensive lineman five point one zero best. The only
position group that didn't set an all time record for
average forty yard dashtime was the quarterbacks, who cares, and
(24:39):
the quarterbacks at four point six er were second best.
Since it's just now the asterisk is only one hundred
and eighty nine of three hundred and twenty players ran forties.
The other really noticeable trend, and this became a narrative,
how many guys are not working out, they're waiting for
(25:00):
their pro days. It's not all because they're coming off
an injury.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Is the Combine going the way of the bowl season.
Speaker 7 (25:07):
No, because they need the medicals.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
They can't do that on pro days.
Speaker 5 (25:13):
No.
Speaker 7 (25:14):
It's exhaustive medical testing and checking and rechecking and everything,
and it's everything is set up there. They have a
great hospital system in India. They've been doing it a
long time. They get the guys there and back quickly.
It's just it's like one stop shopping for all your
medical research. And then the other thing is they really
like the FaceTime the teams. I never think most of
(25:36):
them the medical component of that being that important.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
That makes sense. That's the number one reason they have it. Yeah,
And I never think of it that way. I always
think of it. It's like, well, we gotta see what
is forty time is?
Speaker 5 (25:44):
You know?
Speaker 7 (25:46):
No, it's then you know, once they figure out who's
still on their board and who isn't, then they go
from there. Got but it's it's interesting. It's become a
media event to a degree. But uh, a lot of options, man.
I I just I wake up every day and think, oh,
they should probably take this guy in the first round,
(26:06):
and then the next day I wake up and think
they should probably take that guy. And they don't play
the same position. I'm not trying to figure out like
who the best receiver fit is. It's I'm trying to
figure out what position they go to.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
They're non positioned to get the quarterback in the future,
they're not, So who do you think they go for position.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Today today the guard from Penn State to replace Samalo.
Speaker 7 (26:28):
Yes, same, everybody calls some vega, he's got a long
difficulty announced name. They could go tackle. Who's the other
cornerback opposite Joey Porter. That's what I was thinking of
the safeties. If slot corner.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
I'm way more interested in a corner than I am
a guard because Spencer Anderson I think can fill the
gap for a year probably, But if you can get
a real solid first round corner that's not Alreadie Burns bust.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
How about if you can get the Castro or Fanna. Yeah,
I mean, if you think that kid is that's what
that is, you don't pass that up. But you better
be sure.
Speaker 7 (27:06):
Even inside linebacker, how deep.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
Are they They don't even know. We don't even know.
Speaker 7 (27:10):
If Queen's coming back doesn't look like it. Omar seems well,
he was giving a uh enthusiastic endorsement for what that's worth.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
It's worth a lot. Oh wait, you said, Omar said
it it's not worth anything. At the combine, he basically says.
Whenever he says, uh, no, we're good with that guy,
he gets gassed like two weeks later.
Speaker 7 (27:31):
Yeah, the impression I got with Queen listening to him
was Queen's coming back. The impression I got with Sam
Malo listening to Omar Khan is that same Malo is
not coming back.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
And that's financial not because I think it's.
Speaker 7 (27:44):
I think it's play related. I just think he's starting
to hit the fume staate. I mean they all had
problems against Houston, but he was one of the people
that had problems against Houston.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Aks to see what Mike McCarthy's new coaching staff does
with all of these guys and how it might look different.
Speaker 7 (28:01):
That's what we don't know is who they like and
who they don't like. They are not attached any It's
not like, Oh, Roderick Jones was our first round pick
four years ago. We got to give them every opportunity. Yeah,
clean slate across the board, right, Yeah, I mean none.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
Of these people are there, guys, Yeah, except one, Aaron Rodgers.
When we come back, Jerry do like joining us. They
might be without their team MVP from the twenty five season. Abby,
you'll have your news coming up at the top of
the hour. We are going to go over the Actors
Awards last night. We'll tell you how you can get
away to Bradenton courtesy of the DV Morning Show. This
(28:35):
is a great contest we have for you that's coming
up in just a little bit here. It's the DV
Morning Show.
Speaker 8 (28:39):
How about June r I think Floyd Harrik Cloft He's
plain that that'd be cool.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
You should feel proud. Do you help make this? You
build the menu, run the electric launch with your requests.
I see it weekdays at noon with Michelle Michaels on DV.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
It's Randy from the DV, the radio home of the
Pittsford Steelers one o two point five five dve in
joining us right now from the Pittsburgh Post.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Is that in the Steelers audio network? Jerry? Do you
like Jerry de? Good morning?
Speaker 3 (29:07):
How are you.
Speaker 6 (29:09):
Rando? I am terrific and I hope you are as well.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
I couldn't be better, my friend. Let me ask you this.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
That report card that came out, it's still making waves.
The Steelers didn't get that high of a score. A.
How did the organization react to that? Was that a
surprise not a surprise?
Speaker 5 (29:27):
And B?
Speaker 4 (29:28):
How much does that really matter in the grand scheme
of things other than being a bad pr.
Speaker 6 (29:33):
Look yeah, I think that's mostly the case, Rando. The
optics don't look great. You know when you're talking about
you know, the pr aspect of it. You know, it's
it's funny when you see the strength coach capacity get
(29:55):
what f and then the training staff gets the highest
grade in the league a US And I'm not saying
but I mean that, you know what, good for the
training staff because it's well deserved. You see some incongruity
in those aspects there. You look at the facilities. I
(30:16):
don't think anybody is going to debate the fact that
they need to get bigger and better in terms of it.
They need to get a new place. It's they've just
outgrown it. The size of the coaching staffs these days,
you know grown it.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
Are you talking about south side facilities or acrossure state?
Speaker 6 (30:36):
Well, mostly the south side because you know they're at
Acreasure what ten times a year, but they're at the
south Side every day and they share the space, you
know with Pitt. They need to get their own facility,
and I think they will. I don't know how soon.
(30:57):
I don't think you're going to wait twenty years. I
don't think it's going to be tomorrow. But I think
you will see them get their own space, which is
what they need. And I mean, even now, this is
a I don't want to say it's a selfish thing,
but even right down to the parking, and I don't
say it selfishly because everybody knows that there's no space
over there even for that anymore. So I think that
(31:21):
kind of lends itself to all that. I don't think
it's changing anything in terms of on field performance, in
terms of attracting players, I don't think that has anything
to do with it. But yeah, the optics in the
short term don't look good.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
So what will the actionable part be. Do you think
on the part of the organization, you can't just let
stuff like that remain out there without addressing some of it,
at least for the pr look the optics of it,
as you mentioned, because from a cost perspective, it doesn't
seem like it's something that would break the bank in
order to look a whole lot better, like you're at
(31:57):
least trying.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Yeah, maybe a six toilet it.
Speaker 8 (32:01):
Yeah, I.
Speaker 6 (32:03):
Mean I agree, And and you know, you look to
those facilities on the south side, you know it, they're
they're UPMC and so you know, I don't want to
say they get off the hook here because I'm not
laying blame, but you know, they're they're, they're they're a
big part of that as well, because those are you know,
that's that's the name to the place.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
But isn't that why the stealers use it though, because
then they can get the tax break of it being
the UPMC building.
Speaker 6 (32:31):
Well, I'm not saying that's why they use it, but
that's one of the right that's one of the aspects
of it.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
But again, so that kind of speaks to the willingness
to invest.
Speaker 6 (32:43):
And and it might be because it might be uh,
it might be the reason though too that they also move. Well,
in its most basic form, they know they need to
go to a bigger facility, and I don't know whether
that involves up MC or not. I don't know that
it does. I can't speak to that. Yeah, they know,
they're not blind to the fact that they just need
(33:04):
more space, to have more room, to have better facilities.
Speaker 7 (33:07):
They know that they tried to redo the weight room
last year and they put some fresh paint in the
locker room and made some minor changes. But you know,
I've only been to a handful of other NFL facility
facilities over the entirety of my career. The most recent
example of seeing one was the Cowboys taj Mahall on
Hard Knocks, drone shot a castle that Dallas built for it.
(33:31):
Is that like what the curve is on the grade,
you know, because not too many people are going to
have that, like if that's a they're never going to
do better than c Right.
Speaker 6 (33:43):
No, that that's that's right, Mike, And that's that's a
good point. I will tell you, you know. No, it's
been a while since I traveled around the NFL. There
are certain aspects that I see with other cities that
I either don't see with Pittsburgh or I see in
Pittsburgh that I didn't see in other cities. And first
and foremost among them is the way you are treated
(34:07):
in Pittsburgh. There is no other There was no other
place that I've ever been where the media now we
used to be in the same building. Make it but
they but there's a perfect example. Why we're not in
that building now with the coaches and players is because
one it started with COVID, but two again with the
size of the coaching staffs and all the players. Now
(34:29):
they ran out of room in that media room that's
now an offensive lineman's room, and so we get pushed
over to the indoor practice facility. They have to renovate
the racquetball courts for us, and they did a decent
job turning a racquetball court into a workspace where they
house us.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
And so.
Speaker 6 (34:51):
But there wasn't another team that I visited in my
years before where the media eight with the players and
so to speak, we you shared the cafeteria. Where else
do you go to another city and see the owner
standing in line waiting for lunch. That happens in Pittsburgh,
that doesn't happen anywhere else. It was that familiar atmosphere
(35:14):
that exists in Pittsburgh that doesn't exist anywhere else. Now
that was a while ago, and that's changed a little bit,
but that was always the thing that I noticed no
other in no other city did the media coexist with
the team like they did in Pittsburgh and were allowed to.
And that started way back with the chief, Dan Rooney.
(35:36):
You know Bill Kauer back and you know when he
was coaching and now again I'm speaking from a media perspective,
he wanted to throw the media out of that building.
He wanted to put us in a trailer, and Dan
Rooney said no. Bill Cower at one point wanted to
close practice. I know he did one time, but he
didn't want to have the media practice. Dan Rooney said, no,
that's not the way they do things. And so, you know,
(35:58):
I'm looking at it from a little different angle to
bring up those points, but that's kind of the difference
between the facilities they have and the operational and kind
of atmosphere that they created their place.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
Kenneth Gainwell on the chopping not chopping bluff, but in
the free agent market, and it would seem to me
that losing the team MVP would be a bad thing.
He far and away exceeded expectations last season.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
Can they afford to lose him? Can they afford to
keep him?
Speaker 6 (36:28):
Well, you know, if he does leave, it'll be the
first time since Neil O'Donnell in nineteen ninety six the
team dempp he left the following year. It just seems
kind of odd that that would be the case. He
wants to test the market. They know that. You know,
we'll see what the market bears for a running back,
you know, Jalen Warren makes five and a half million.
(36:49):
Are they're going to pay him more than Jalen William
Jalen Warren per year. I don't know about that. Sure,
they'd like to keep them. But it's kind of like
justin fields, if he's going to test the market, he's
going to test the market. We'll see, we'll see what
he gets. I mean, he's never been a starter and
nobody's gonna sign him as a starter. But there, you know,
he's a complimentary back who could catch the ball and
(37:10):
and and you know with in today's NFL, that's that's
a that's a nice piece of the puzzle. So we'll
see what he commands.
Speaker 4 (37:18):
Carrie, do you lact well? Before I let you go
the sayamalu question? We were just talking about. Might the
Steelers look for his replacement in the draft? Seems like
it's a fatal complete that he's going to be shuffling
down the road.
Speaker 6 (37:32):
Yeah, we'll see what he gets too. Uh No, don't
don't go sign a veteran and free agency that's their intention, now,
you know, uh like they did with Yeah, looking at
the free agent market for guards. Uh, you know, it
doesn't seem like it's the greatest. But uh and and
you either have a bunch of old guys or a
bunch of young guys. You know, Sam Malo is not
(37:53):
a big ticket, but you know, we'll we'll see.
Speaker 10 (37:57):
You know.
Speaker 6 (37:57):
The problem is he's been nick a lot lately. He
has played, but he doesn't practice a lot because he
seems to be hurt a lot. So we'll see where
that goes. The same deal who'll probably test the market.
But if he leaves, though, their intention is to sign
a garden free agency to replace him.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
Jerry, do you lac post Causeett Steelers Audio Network Always pleasure,
Thanks Jerry D.
Speaker 6 (38:22):
