Just salt, pepper and some garlic, salt, and then throw
them on a super hot grill. Close that hood for
about three and a half minutes. Flip that hood back up,
don't touch them. Flip them once. If you're flipping more
than once, you're a rookie. You flip them again. Close
that hood, go another three and a half minutes, open
(00:44):
the hood, flip them again, drop the cheese on, close
it and let it wrap it like a blanket. And
they come out, look and picture perfectly. That sounds delicious,
not that I've had some thought about that. And then
I come in. It doesn't matter what I cook. I've
been married twenty five years. Whatever. I walk in the
door with a tray of meat and food. My wife, Wilger,
is that cooked. No one's ever been sick in the
(01:06):
quarter of a century. But that's it. And here's when
you become a Jedi in marriage, when you look at
her and go it is you keep moving just the
way no shots fired, no shots fired, no shota nice,

Randy Bellman and the DVE Morning Show Bill Greydall scheduled
to join us this hour here on DV. We're waiting
for him to get connected. Abby's got a news update
before We got Joe Bartnick in studio as well, along
with Tad Whistle and myself here on one O t
point five d VE New's This.
Speaker 5 (01:42):
Hour brought to you by Better Call Sy mostly sunny,
very hot today. Caution advisor, if you're gonna be outside
for extended periods of time, it is a high of
ninety seven. And actually jumping off of that topic with grilling.
July is National grilling Month, which makes sense since it's Midsummer.
There's surely die hard to have no problem passing on
a jacket and had to stand by the grill in
(02:04):
mid January. But according to a new report, the average
American enjoys thirteen grill days per year. Eighty four percent
of Americans say that they would grill if they had
more opportunities, but forty nine percent say that they are
not comfortable at the grill. Top fears include dropping meat
through the grates, fear top fears, top fears, running out
(02:27):
of propane, and you know, making having something to be
raw when you serve it.
Speaker 6 (02:34):
My brother in law ran out of propane recently and
his dad was there and it was a kid's birthday party.
He fired up the grill, he gets the you know,
it's going for a little bit, and he gets the
the burgers on there, and then the propane dies immediately,
and his dad, just the rest of the party just
rode him so hardly.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Kevin, I'm telling you what. You gotta have propane, right,
I know. You always gotta have the backup you got
I have a backup tank, Kevin. I mean, oh, what
are you doing. I always have a backup. You gotta
have a backup y. There's no there's nothing like being
in the middle of grilling something and the gas goes
out because you don't want to have to take it
in into the broiler or anything like that. Like you
(03:13):
got to be able to do the quick switch and
then take that one down, get it, get your back
up refilled. Always have the backup propane. These burgers were
finished at the neighbor's house.
Speaker 7 (03:25):
Brutal I ran out this weekend. But no harm, no foul,
no meat was on yet. Yeah, I'm like, oh, you're fine.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
People did rank the biggest grilling sins. The top five
included a number one, touching another person's grill without permission.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yes you will. Hey. By the way, we have Billy
Gardell joining us now live from Los Angeles. Billy William,
good morning.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Hi, good morning, causus. I came in mid stream here.
We had a little trouble connecting out here to Santa
Anas are blown. But yeah, please continue. Yeah, you're an
embarrassment if you don't have extra propane. Yes, will, You're
an embarrassment. Right, You're not a grown man. You know.
You start a cookout with half a tank of pro pane,
you are not a grown man.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Period. And the discussion full stop. Okay, but the next
thing you were saying abby.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
Although Randy did say Randy did say, the emergency procedure
if you do ron low the broiler is your saving good.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah, you got taken into the broiler, but nobody wants
to do that.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Moke up the kitchen.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
No one wants Hey, Bill, are you doing Hi?
Speaker 4 (04:28):
Joe, good buddy.
Speaker 7 (04:30):
I just always say too and never never speak about
a man's grill, like, let, if it's his grill, you
let him man his grill. I don't you never step
in unless ask upon.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Right you could. Yeah, that's another perfect ruling, Joe. You
can gather around the grill. Do not criticize the man's grill.
Do not suggest what he should be doing.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
We're all married.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
You don't need to do that. You don't have to
worry about that. I already have a supervisor buzz in
the tower every twenty.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
Another grilling sin that came up was not allowing the
meat to rest before you serve it.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
How many times have I said to you you have
to meat restb open.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
That's a T shirt, Abbey, that's a T shirt.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
There, let the meats. Everything sound like. I'm just tired and.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
The world would be a better place if we all
wore let the meat rest shirts.
Speaker 5 (05:32):
Opening the lid unnecessarily.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Yeah, people do that with the oven two. But you
get it.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
If you're looking, you're not cooking, man. It depends on
what you're working with too. Now see, I got a
smoker and a grill, So the smoker you crack that,
I'll come apart Like my father in nineteen seventy seven.
You don't touch that. We got convection cooking going, and
you are going to disturb the rhythm and the frequency.
You might have to crack under that propanegirl, Just make
(06:00):
sure flames aren't, you know, licking everything to point where
it's charred. Well, I like too much charge. That's lazy.
It's a lazy excuse for saying it's cajun.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
My brother, who is an expert griller, does what I
think is the most rube move when he grills what
is he'll two points cut into it to see how
far it's gone. Like he'll sacrifice one of the steaks
or burgers just to see how it's cooking. And I'm like,
you gotta trust your process, man.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Yeah, no, one of your guests just gets an injured steak.
That's no good.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, he used to. I think he has a I
think that's his test steak, you know what I mean.
Or burger.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
You know he's paranoid of it. You gotta get your
timing down for all your different meats.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
I know exactly. I got burgers and steaks down. I
know that I know the difference between filats and a
strip and a burger, and and and chicken. I see
all of those pork on pork because I don't eat
that much. Point.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
I take my time, my time, and I have Joey
O'Connell from Penhill's come over with a starting gun and
a stopwatch. We've got a good system, so just times
out perfectly.
Speaker 7 (07:11):
What do you think of the guys that put the
thermometer in? A buddy of mine did that the last week,
and I'm like, that's like, you know, that's like using
it as steroids.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
I don't know, that's just either.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
Training wheels, Joe, I just go by field training whel's body.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
You got a feeling, look and expertise and experience. That's
what's gonna get you done. There you go.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
Grill We kind of covered the fourth one, which was
backseat grilling, just hanging out in the background. Plenty of
opinions on what the grillers should be doing. So that
is a major foul.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Let me tell you, by the way, for any of
you to do that, any grown men to do that.
By the way, the minute you walk away, the other
three guys go. Who invited him?
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Well, So I had dinner with two friends Saturday night
to watch the World Cup game and we were rilling
out and it was it was at my crib. So
I'm like, all right, well, look here's what we're working
with tonight. Got a couple of steaks. There's a piece
of the Copper River salmon. Then it was in the freezer.
I'm gonna do that too, and they're like all right, yeah, yeah, man,
(08:15):
do it up. And I was like, I'm just telling
you right now because there they have both worked in restaurants.
When one owns a restaurant currently, I'm like, if you
guys are gonna bitch about how I'm doing this, just
do it because I don't care. I'm not trying to
be like this. I'm this is how I do it,
you know, and my way's best. I'm here to learn.
If you want to tell no, no, no, you're fine.
(08:37):
And those bastards the entire time, what are you doing?
What are you doing? I'm like, we need one? Am
I doing? We close the lid on the steaks. I'm like,
I close the lid on the steaks because I know
these are small for it and I want it to
be a medium rare all the way top to bottom.
I don't like it to have the fleshy middle. I
like to have that nice you know, red top to
(08:58):
bottom and if you can it real quick, it'll do that.
And they're like, oh, you're you're baking a steak. You're
baking a steak. You just eat the salmon then, well
you already or go home, go home, you can go
home now, and they're like, whatever, man, it's your deal,
it's your deal.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
My dad's answer for that was my dad's answer for
anything you criticized him about. When you were over for
any event, you said anything, He's like, well you could leave.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Yeah, no. But then they were complimentary. They're like, and
I did. I totally fed up the one strip we had,
you know, And they're like, no, it's fine, that's good.
And I'm like, I hate you guys because I know
it's not fine. And you guys are just completely patronizing
me right now. They're like, no, no, no, it's good. My
body's going I'm like a patronizing is the world. Yeah no,
(09:56):
it's good.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
A little bit. Well, you have to practice is sloughing
it off. You gotta let it roll off you too.
Everybody they were but I've been trained for twenty five years.
I mean I told you every Thanksgiving. I smoked two
turkeys for four and a half hours, and and every
single time, when it's right before we're about to bring
(10:21):
it in and match it up with all the sides,
I will walk in with a giant turkey, perfectly smoke,
perfectly carved, and Patty will go, is that cooked? No, honey,
I'm gonna kill all of us. I've been doing this
twenty five. I'm twenty five, and oh, but this is
the one that's not that. This is the one here,
perfectly brown, Martha Stewart turkey. I'm walking to you in
(10:44):
front of you. But that's the one that's gonna salmonellas
where I'm sinking the whole ship Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
I never understand how there is an thermometer in the
turkey that pops like. It just feels to me like
that's not a safe thing.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Who does that? Does that? Jenny O?
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Or butter ball? Butter butter ball?
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Well, do we have mercury in the turkey?
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Is that?
Speaker 6 (11:04):
Is that?
Speaker 4 (11:04):
What's happening there? Listen, listen, it's all in there. They're
killing all of us. Everything's bad, everything's poison.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Just enjoying now eating all I'm eating is turkey now
turkey chicken, no veggies, no fruit until this diarrhea, You know,
epidemic is done.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
Cuz if we're now at a place in the world
where chocolate is safer than raspberries, that's fantastic. That's where
we're almost done here. I've been telling the kids on stage,
the younger ones that are coming to my show, and
now I go, Hey, the world's ending. Lean into it.
Lean into it, get a job, swipe what you can,
have some fun on the weekends, and just lean in.
(11:44):
Don't let them steal another day. And tell us is
that the show's over, And people go, well, how do
you know the world's ending? I said, well, I've been
on TV a long time and I can spot a
series finale when I see it. I can see a
common we're wrapping up here.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
I saw Hilariously, it's like it's a thousand degrees. Economic
inequality is more sparse than ever before. There's deadly epidemics
happening every other month. Water, but at least no black
scientists are being recognized in the Smithsonian. We can say
the R word, so it's all worth it.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
Yeah, yeah, we fought for all the right things. Congratulations everybody, Yay,
it's watched the world burned.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
I just want yeah, I just the amount of Here's
what I'm afraid of is if the poop epidemic, if
this this parasite, the cyclospora really takes off the way
that it seems like it already has begun. That like
people are gonna start tiktoking their adventures with cyclospora as
if they're all doing their own dumb yet bridges and
(12:47):
dumb commers. It's just gonna be like a lot of
people sitting there like, I don't think you guys realize
how bad this is. I'm doing this as a public
service announcement. And then there's just like cacoffinic old farts,
you know, it sounds like whales.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
And then and then eventually one comic will get into
that and make it his whole act. You know, I
know it'll be that guy. I know what, So how
do you say that? How do you say that? How
do you say's welcome cyclospora everybody in the whole show? Yeah,
TikTok sensation selling out pitterina, I got that spiral gyra parasite.
(13:32):
What was the thing is kids were used to use
where you put the circle in the circle, and you
put the pen in it and grind it around.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
What was that, spirogram?
Speaker 6 (13:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (13:43):
Nice work. If I had a memory, I could have remembered. Yeah, spirograph.
That's what I'm going out as from now on. Please
welcome spirograph. That's where we're heading.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
It's gonna be fine. That's it. I'm not worried about it.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Good times ahead, fellas, good times ahead.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Just have a cookout? Were fine? Yeah, but you're so
you got the smoker. The smokers are tough. Here's the
only thing about the smoker that I don't like is
people will smoke ribs and I don't think ribs should
be smoked. All you're wrong, okay, wrong, Well I like
them sloppy. I like them sloppy.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
No, no, well that's all about cook time. Six hours
you could yank the bone, right, they won't. You can't
even transferm to the plate without the bone falling out
after six hours of smoking.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
It's unbelievable, Okay, because every time I have smoker, they're like,
they taaste good, but they're not falling apart, and they're
not I like sauce. They're always driver.
Speaker 4 (14:33):
Will you come out here again. I will fix that
for you, and then you'll go. I used to hate
smoke ribs, but the nas a guard dells right. I'm
a believer. I'll take a believer.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Now take you upon us.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
All right.
Speaker 5 (14:46):

Speaker 2 (15:29):

I make at least one trip to Eaton Park and uh, oh,
by the way, I will be home. I'm coming in.

I think it's August second. Is that Saturday?
Speaker 6 (15:46):

Me and Lou from Mike and Molly Vince. Lou is
actually a legit bartender, like he's in New York Bartending
Hall of Fame, and that was what he did for

that show starts later. Now I think we can make.
Speaker 2 (16:35):

Speaker 4 (16:40):

this out.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
You can do terrain stations.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (16:49):

ninety hot.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
What pickle hot?
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Can you eat?
Speaker 4 (16:59):
What if it's a pickle with the parasite parasite?
Speaker 6 (17:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (17:03):
No, no, I think you're all right with the pickles.
I think I read it was the berries. Is the trouble?
Pre made salad? No chance of that happening, pre made
veggie train, No chance of that happening. I think I'm good.
I'm gonna let this blow over.

Down to the final four in the World Cup Semi
Final number one today at three o'clock from Jerry World
France against Spain. That'll be followed by tomorrow's second semi
final England and Argentina. The two winners will meet Sunday
at MetLife Stadium in the Swamps, A, Jersey to decide
this year's World Cup champion. It's interesting the way this
(19:22):
has played out. I heard some analogies at the start
of the tournament to the NCAA basketball tournament. You get
some fireworks in the early rounds and some upsets happen,
but usually as the thing continues, the cream rises to
the top. And here we are at the final four.
Today's matchup France against Spain. Frances the number three rated
(19:45):
team according to FIFA. Spain's number two. Tomorrow England's number
four against Argentina number one. So basically the four number
one seeds have advanced out of the regions to the
final four, and that's exciting.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
It was kind of by design.
Speaker 9 (20:04):
This is the first year that FIFA designed its draw
to prevent the four highest ranked teams from meeting before
the semi finals. Yeah, so you know you don't want
to see Duke play Gonzaga in around to sixteen, right,
you want that in the final four.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Well, speaking of that, they are going to increase the
size of the field for the next World cop to
sixty four. They're like, all nations should get a chance,
and it's like, all right, well, let's see how this goes,
because I think there's going to be some thumping going
on in those early rounds.
Speaker 7 (20:37):
There was nations in this one I never heard of.
And you're Ordain like four times.
Speaker 9 (20:51):
Tabo Verde to our previous point opened the tournament, keep
saying Cape.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
It's Capo, isn't Cabo? Cabo is it? I thought it
was Cape Forde. I think it's Cape like Cape, like geographic.
I thought it was Cabo like Cape of Horn. Yeah,
I don't care. Let's get that out there. Well, look
for a guy who likes it's Cape. But whoever they are.
Speaker 9 (21:11):
They started out zero zero against Spain, which was unthinkable
first game, but Spain has won every game since five
oh to one, and Spain has allowed one goal in
this tournament. That was in its most recent game, the
two to one quarterfinal win over Belgium. France has only
allowed two goals. The French are six and zero, and
(21:33):
they have five of their six wins by two or
more goals. So I guess in soccer two or more
goals that's like ten running somebody in softball.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
Right, that's that's a blowout. It should be fun.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
I'm rooting for I'm rooting for Spain. One of my
neighbors is French and I can't stand him. So let's
go Spain.
Speaker 9 (21:56):
I'm rooting for France. Why because Vegas dictated that I do.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
So Zah, I see where your loyalty is.
Speaker 9 (22:05):
I got the French at plus money to win the
whole thing at the start of the quarterfinals.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
And what do we got on the other side with
Argentina and England.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
Haven't even like Bill got to play one game at
a time.
Speaker 9 (22:21):
Let's not get over ours we were talking today. I'm
still not a soccer fan, but I'm a fan of
this tournament and the drama and the excitement and the
passion yea, and the history and all that.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
So it's it's pretty cool. I get my fix.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
You know what's really been cool about this tournament is
all the people from other countries posting about how much
they've enjoyed being over in America and how what they
perceived we were doing.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
Over here fell for the Scion.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
Was not that way. Yeah, they really, And that's been
joyous to see. That's been really cool. And the fact
that the Scotts drank Boston out of beer. Yeah maybe
my favorite, Yeah, that's my favorite.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
But beyond.
Speaker 9 (23:04):
Beyond St Patrick Stay in Boston levels of drinking.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
It's unbelievable. You gotta respect that, right absolutely. I heard
people saying.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Nice things about Philly. I guess they weren't there. They
weren't there long enough.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Yeah, that's that you were. You were there one day short,
one day short.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Just get on the broad Street subway line.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
We're having a great time until we ran into the Mummers.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
But Philly is a great town. It's just it is
a harsh group of people. All yeah, I mean it's awesome,
it's an awesome it is a town. It's amazing, it's
a great time, but it's.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
Brutal and yeah. I don't know if you've had this
experience in Philly, but I find them to be some
of the most They're just abrasive before you even get
to the stage. I have never had in Philly as
a stand.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Up I've had a lot of fun in Philly.
Speaker 7 (24:03):
They actually I love the comedy fans that I've always
had a great time. I like everybody there but the
flyer fans. But they'll tell you what's really tough about
them is the women in Philly are just bad.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (24:15):
But they all think they all think they're like Brooklyn Eights,
and they're like and they got these attitudes like you
you can't talk to me like this.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
You're not enough to talk to you. Your security badge.
You're a level three. My mom's family is from Philadelphia.
It's mad. That whole city is mad. It's not Manhattan.
That's really.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Because Chicago is known as Yeah, Chicago is the second city,
but it's really Philadelphia.
Speaker 7 (24:52):
Well, Philly kind of has most of the like they have,
like all the problems that New York has, but not
all the great stuff.
Speaker 4 (25:01):
That's the right, that's a great description. That's a great
description of Philly.
Speaker 7 (25:07):
But I do have a blast. I love eating in
Philly is fantastic. Always have a good time in Philadelphia.
Great town, important town, beautiful town. Sports fans are crazy.
That's like my only take. Sports fans are absolutely nuts.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
I have been in fights that I did not even
try to be in, just going to a Phillies game
and making a comment to a friend. Someone overhears it
and goes, why the hell would you do that? You know,
Like I mean, I remember being in a Phillies game
and somebody's walking down the aisle when it's like full count,
you know, guy on second two outs, and I'm like,
(25:41):
how can you just walk down the you know, the
stairs right now during this How can you not have
that a situational awareness and someone overheard me, and this
lady's like, well, what do you want to do? Just
stand there all day? And I'm like, well wait till
that pitches yeah, like a normal person. And she's like,
well what if they got to get down to their people?
(26:02):
And I'm like, why are we fighting? I don't even
know you because we're in Philly. Yes exactly.
Speaker 7 (26:08):
But just to get back to Billy's point, though, I
the comedy fans I always find are great there.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
Uh Bill Burr's legendary. But that's that's OpEd.
Speaker 7 (26:20):
Anthony fans though, too, those are a whole another breed
of that is true.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Louisaid Species Jordan Walker.
Speaker 9 (26:30):
The Cardinals won the home run derby last night in Philly.
I heard it was a hell of a time. I
didn't watch it.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
I tried, man, I tried. I watched the highlights this morning.
It was a lot easier to do because that broadcast
was terrible last night.
Speaker 9 (26:43):
One of the reasons why I didn't watch it is
Jordan Alvarez, James wood Hunter, Goodman Byron Buxton, Matt Olson,
Colin Montgomery, and Shohey O'tane for one reason or another
did not participate. Those are seven of your top twelve
home run hitters.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
The only thing saving my sanity these days is sports.
It's the only place my brain literally shuts off. I'll
watch anything at this point. If they have an axe
chopping contest, I'm in any I don't care. Guys climbing trees.
I'll bet on the guy in red shorts. I don't care.
I just need sports to take me away from I
need Colgon from sports every three hours.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Cake, I watch Time today Man France and Spaceles.
Speaker 9 (27:30):
No offense to your rooting against your neighbor, but I'm
back into French.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
Well, I'll clap quietly under the table for you if
you win.
Speaker 9 (27:38):
Add that to the list of things I never thought
I would say out loud.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
I can't believe you're rooting for France.
Speaker 9 (27:44):
What's next, I'm gonna root for Canada and hockey, probably,
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
That may never come to that, That will never all right,
let's do it quick break and we'll see if we
can come out even more ethnocentric. After this commercial break,
here more with Billy Gardell on the DV Morning Show.
Full disclosure.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
We're buying your loyalty with the only currency we have
Musa Chaed Tyson kicks off his show every weekday at
three with a commercial free rock block. Yeah, we sell
a little less but rock a little more With Tyson
afternoons on dv E, We're the average show.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Prove CG show Randy down In along with Billy Gardell
live in Los Angeles, California, Mike Pursueda, Abby Crisoner, Ted Whistle,
and Joe Bartnick all here this one full hous d
It is a full house. It's the slowest week of
(28:45):
the year, which makes this, yes, the slowest week of
the year there is you know, there's no sports, but
we do have the World Cup to kind of save
us because it's the All Star Game and most people
are on either you know, viction or coming off vacation.
There's just not a whole lot happening right now, which
can sometimes make it hard to come up with things
(29:07):
to talk about. Bill.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
Yeah, cause we're growing up the string. It's growing up String.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
But I want got people though that on August first,
you're going to be coming back to go to Rocos
and tell us.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
What switch Well, we're coming back. It's the eightieth anniversary
of that Corner Bar, which is just amazing to me.
It's an institution and everybody in there should be institutionalized.
So I'm looking forward to being back in my neighborhood.
And like I said, she's gonna be a lot of
kick man and lou is going to bartend and abuse
me while I bar back for him, and uh, and
(29:42):
we're just going to be in there slinging drinks from
one to five. So I think it's gonna be a
fun time and it'd be nice to be in the neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
And yeah, Looma laarmas Stillo, who was Vince on Mike
and Molly and he was the uh he was the
landscaper on The Sopranos.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
And the Sopranos and then he was forgot what guy
he was on Seinfeld, but him and Rondey both had
popular Seinfeld episodes. Rondi of course played my Mom on
Mike Abali and uh yeah man. And he always he
really last time he was there, he dug the music
scene because you took him and his wife around that
one night. He always talks about that. He really loved
(30:17):
her because he's a music head man and he really
was impressed by Pittsburgh's local music scene.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
Oh yeah, he took him that night.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
He was blown away by the local musicians.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
Blown away.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
He always talks about. He's like, I couldn't believe it.
I thought, I'm in Pittsburgh. How's it gonna go? Oh
my god. They were great, great.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
He were so funny in the in the sopranos, but
all right, so rockos, like now, the that was like
your dad's hangout. So like my dad and all my
eyes hung out a called May's Tavern, and it made
a tavern. They had peanut Night was Thursday night, and
there's free peanuts, and so we would go because it'd
be peanut night, and we'd get a burger and he'd
(30:57):
give us you know, hey, he's made peanuts. You want
have a cheeseburger while you're dad and your uncles get
sauced at the bar.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
Right, And so that became the proper childhood brandy.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
You'd be done and then you get quarters, go play
the pinball machine, go play pool, like you know, until
it got you know, ce d at a certain time,
and then they'd uh the shuffle board because yeah, but
and then like you go to the bathroom, be like dad,
this gum tastes funny. Where'd you get it? I'm the
machine that's not gun. Do you remember just spending hours
(31:31):
inside of Rocos with your old man?
Speaker 4 (31:33):
Oh my, oh my god. Yes, I mean we would
we get picked me up on Sunday after my parents
got divorced, and we just got down the street to
Rocos and I'd have a gingerrell and some pretzels while
he had a few libations and watched.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
The Steelers game.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Just I just grew up in that bar, and I
love it because the right of passage and at Rocas
was you had to be thrown out by Augie the owner.
If he threw you out, then now you were legit.
You had to be thrown out and suspended for at
least two weeks. And that he always put a two
week suspension on you if you were acting up at
the bar. Nope, you're out for two weeks. But Aggie,
(32:10):
you remember this guy Ogg's in his seventies and he's
still got a grip that if he grabs your shoulder
you're leaving, it's like worse than Spock. He grabbed as
you're gone. You're gone, as you're walking to the door.
That's it.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Bill. Do you remember when you made your I'm thrown
out of her bones.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
The first time, I was twenty two, Yeah, twenty two,
and I got the I got the paralyzing shoulder grip.
And apparently I was a little too loud and not
as funny as I thought, and I was asked apparently
three or four times, which I was unaware of. But
on the fourth one I was showing the door. Absolutely
got my stripes.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
So I kind of grew up in bars, and like, yep,
not entirely, but like I started to, you know, playing
in bands in bars when I was very young, and
we spent so much time in the bar with my
with my dad, frankly in my family, but my family,
he was like the whole family was there and we
were in bars. And I think that there's something really
(33:15):
beneficial to developing social graces at a young age by
hanging out in bars, because the social dynamic in a
bar runs the gamut of just about every interaction that
you're going to encounter in every aspect of life. In
(33:36):
a little microcosm that has a bar in some barstools, TVs,
a jukebox, and pinball.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
Teaches you how to be out in a bot, and
it teaches you how to not act like a lunatic.
And the most dangerous thing about a corner bar is
if you do act out a line, they're not calling
the cops. They're calling your dad, and that's worse. I
would run either go to jail for a night than
have them call my father and say I embarrassed him
down at the bar, because that was it. That was
(34:07):
I didn't want to go home. When you you get
in trouble at the bar, they call your dad, your
kids down here acting like a total jag.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Yeah, yeah, I've got called for my brother before he
done here and get him. He's a jag. But when
you stopped drinking, I mean, I remember the days when
you were still you know, bending the album. But when
you stopped drinking, was there any part of you that
you like, you'd want to go have lunch in a
(34:35):
bar just to kind of feel that vibe or was
that too much of a temptation.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
No, when I when I was, it wasn't a temptation.
Because I got sober on the Jamison Whiskey tour. So
you're going to get sober you want to test a fire,
that's like Lord of the Rings.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
Wasn't that like you and gious you and burn.
Speaker 4 (34:55):
It was the original four was me, Danny Bevans, Steve
Burne and Nick Griffin. And then the following year they
brought in Burt Kreischer, Pete core Ally. I mean that
was a drinking crew, make no mistake. And uh and
and then I just it was time for me to stop.
And uh and I had to just I had to go.
I had to run out of the bar in those
days because they were just handing us free jamison. They
(35:17):
were sending it to the house. I mean that tapped
out all my fun tickets ran. Yeah, I was done
after that. But after a while, now, after enough not
drinking for me, it was it was just easy to
go in, do my job, get some Alipinia poppers, and
go home.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
I get romantic about bars. Not did I necessarily want
to get hammered in them. But if I see it,
play the tape all the way through.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
The beginning of the tape always starts out, good, what
a romantically fun time. This is great. Yeah, later on
play play that fourth quarter. You know, life, the more
stuff that's in front of your beer, like once there,
once you've accumulated change, uh, sunglass.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
There's a weird bottle of exactly half a bag of chips,
and they're sitting there like the more stuff that eventually
you're like, all right, I created a pile.
Speaker 4 (36:24):
I gotta go. When you're at the bar and you
have an altar and a candle in front of you.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Billy live in Los Angeles, California, and you'll be back
in a couple of weeks, and we're looking forward to
seeing you.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
A couple of weeks. And I'm gonna listen to this
Dead song if we can't put that together, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:40):

going to be the cause. Yeah, for you, it'll be
