We're doing this thing together. Okay, great, And then if
you dig it, then you can be like are you hungry?

Speaker 5 (01:06):

you're good.

Speaker 9 (02:34):
This is fun, all right?

Speaker 10 (02:36):
New is this hour?

Speaker 7 (02:37):
Brought to you by your neighborhood Ford Store. Mostly sunny
and very hot today it's a high of ninety five.
Pen DOT officials announced the old Parkway east Bridge will
be explosive explosively demolished today, Wednesday, July the fifteenth.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
I was waiting for it.

Speaker 7 (02:55):
In a release Tuesday, pen DOT said the demolition will
occur today. They're permitting in the Edgwood Borough and the
City of Pittsburgh. The explosive demolition of the current interstate
between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewoods whist Fill
exit interchanges anticipated to occur somewhere between one and nine pm.
Pen Dot says the explosive process will only occur after

(03:17):
cruise and emergency personnel have cleared the blast radius on
the ground and in the air and have declared the
zone safe for the explosion.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
Wonder how close you're allowed to get?

Speaker 6 (03:27):
I was thinking that too.

Speaker 7 (03:28):
I'm like wondering where, you know, if anybody has like
a home or a neighborhood where you're like perfectly situated
to see all of it. Yeah, but I think they
like send off a siren and let everybody know that
the blast is about to happen. So once you hear
the siren, you have a few minutes to like get
to your vantage point.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
It would be fun to watch that. Have a little party. Yeah, sure, Well,
we like implosions. We like explosions and implosions. Big explosion City.
That's we're named for. City of Bridges, City of Impleasures.

Speaker 7 (04:02):
After spending several years offline, James Franco is back on
social media, but his recent posts have raised eyebrows over
what he claims the footage of an alien in his backyard.
The forty eight year old actor, who was largely exiled
from Hollywood after a series of sexual misconduct allegations against
him in twenty eighteen, launched his TikTok account James Franco

(04:25):
two three one nine in June and began sharing cryptic videos.

Speaker 6 (04:31):
Franco's posts show.

Speaker 7 (04:32):
Him seemingly paranoid and rambling about some serious bleep going on,
writing in the caption of the first post, I can't
say too much right now, but stick around and I
promise it will all make sense. The post switch largely
featured the actor and just a blue T shirt or
alongside a taped pause symbol. Teased the date on July
the thirteenth for weeks until the actual day arrived, and

(04:55):
then he shared bizarre security footage.

Speaker 6 (04:58):
It's clearly like it's the alien stuff. Like it's not funny,
it's just.

Speaker 5 (05:02):
Like it looks like it's a he's promoting a film.

Speaker 6 (05:05):
Well, so that's what is.

Speaker 7 (05:07):
The issue here, because some people are concerned about his
mental health. Other viewers are convinced that it has to
be for a film, But on his IMDb page, there's
not really any films that he's tied to at the moment.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Well, it wasn't worried about him when he started to
school the sexually assault his students, But now that he's
talking about aliens, I'm thinking there might be something wrong
with him.

Speaker 6 (05:26):
It seems a little isolated, that's all.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
I don't know, he doesn't have any friends basically at
this point.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
I don't know if you've seen any of those interviews
that Seth Rogan has done about Franco or vice versa,
and it's like, you know, they're best friends and then
all that stuff happened, and Rogan's like, yeah, I don't
like talking about it because, yeah, we're not friends. I can't. Yeah,
I've said a lot publicly already and nothing more to say,
and we haven't done anything together in over ten years and.

Speaker 7 (05:55):
That's not going to change anytime soon, which James Franco
clearly feels differently.

Speaker 6 (06:00):
Yeah, he's constantly like that was my best friend, man.

Speaker 7 (06:03):
Yeah, like I'll talk to him whenever he wants to talk.

Speaker 6 (06:06):
He doesn't want to talk.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
Yeah, well that happens.

Speaker 11 (06:10):
So now he has no support system and he's making
alien hooks videos in his gruge.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
Yes, okay, Yeah, not going well for James Franco.

Speaker 6 (06:18):
Yeah, maybe he's making his own film.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
Also, I thought he was overrated. I don't know as
an actor.

Speaker 6 (06:24):
I think his hotness helped him quite a bit.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
Oh no, I thought he was hot, don't get me wrong.
I didn't think he could act his way out of
a paper bag. I thought The Deuce was like the
best thing he did. And I didn't even like the Deuce.
I hated the Deuce and I wanted to love the Deuce. Yeah,
oh yeah, you're like David Simon, this is gonna be
great porn In the seventies in New York City in
a Times Square.

Speaker 11 (06:47):
There was so much pressure to stay with The Deuce,
even though it was it was.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
Bad and sad and unwatchable and yeah, it was like
every storyline was completely depressing, and for some reason, they're like,
you know, who can handle playing two roles? James Franco. Yeah,
let's make him upholer opposite twins. Yeah, let's do like
an Eddie Murphy thing, except no farting, just porn. That
was a really weird decision. I just didn't think he

(07:14):
could carry the show. The two shows on HBO that
I'll never understand that they never went were The Deuce,
which had an unbelievable cast David Simon and I thought
a pretty compelling topic, and Vinyl This, oh yeah, did
not see it. Vinyl was really good kind of about
the you know, the record industry as the arena rock

(07:34):
era was being shuffled in. That was like Ray Romano
was in that one twenty sixteen, huh yeah, Bobby Connavalle.

Speaker 12 (07:44):
There.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
There was all kinds of people in that I can't
remember who the like. There was like all kinds of
archetypal like there was an Iggy Pop, there was a
David Bowie there was a Ye, Mick Jagger type thing.
It looked like it was gonna be awesome, and it
actually ended up being the most boring television show ever.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
It's like, how did you make the music industry this boring?

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (08:07):
One season it was that bad? Was that bad? But
I think The Deuce was only one season.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Now I think The Deuce was two?

Speaker 5 (08:14):
Did it go to but it was not?

Speaker 6 (08:16):
It just wasn't good either.

Speaker 11 (08:17):
Yeah, wait, the Deuce three seasons?

Speaker 5 (08:20):
Shut up.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
I might have to go back and watch The Deuce
and just see how depressing it is. Three for The Deuce,
Maggie Jillenhall, it's ninety five degrees. Can't go outside, stay inside,
watch The Deuce.

Speaker 7 (08:33):
It used to be common to have over the hill
parties for people who were turning forty. The idea was
you'd reached the halfway point and it's all downhill from here.

Speaker 6 (08:42):
But that seems like less of a thing these days.

Speaker 7 (08:45):
There's a new article in the Wall Street Journal that
explores why your forties don't seem like middle age anymore.
In America, the average life expectancy is seventy seven for
men and it's eighty one for women. So while those
numbers have been steadily climbing. Is still roughly middle age,
but it's more about lifestyle. For example, it's become more

(09:06):
common for women to have children later, well into their forties.
Births to women forty and over has increased one hundred
and ninety three percent over the last thirty five years.
The median age of a first time home buyer hit
forty last year, and nearly twenty percent of the graduate
students in America are forty plus, which shows that many

(09:26):
people are still shaping their careers at forty, not just
looking to downshift toward retirement. Probably even no forty somethings
who are training for marathons, opening new businesses, changing careers,
all the good stuff.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
Sure, having babies, having the baby, paying for IVF, and
then having seven babies. Stuff like that.

Speaker 5 (09:45):
Yeah, the mistake in seven babies surprise twins and then
James Franco can play them later in life. Yeah, once
they get once they crack into the porn industry.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
That's right.

Speaker 7 (09:56):
I think there's less pressure to have it all figured
out by forty now, Like I don't think anybody expects that.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
I think people have been allowed to have the grace
to realize they don't figure it out ever sometimes and
you can make the change when you're unhappy, not oh well,
this is my lot in life.

Speaker 6 (10:11):
Yeah, drugs are keeping us younger.

Speaker 5 (10:16):
Yeah too, don't forget about that.

Speaker 7 (10:18):
Yeah, which, speaking of that, these Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention is tracking cases of cyclosporiasis, which we've talked
about a lot on the show.

Speaker 6 (10:28):
But there's Pennsylvania is included in this.

Speaker 7 (10:31):
But apparently there are eleven cases right now identified in
Alligating County. But the CDC says that in Pennsylvania cases
are reported voluntarily, which probably means that there's more.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
Right, Absolutely, it's not information. A lot of people want
to volunteer.

Speaker 11 (10:47):
Randy, you shared a fun article last night, Oh the
woman who has laid up for parentheses or for quote weeks.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
Yes, I'm going to play that a little bit later
on for for the listeners. It is an interview with
a woman in Ohio who went through weeks of the
Do Doo disease.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
And as much fun as.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
We've been making of it, you do not want this.
It's weeks of diarrhea. By the way, weeks of diarrhea
will be in the coffee house weeks spelled with an A.
But yeah, it's weeks and it's gonna kill a bunch

(11:32):
of you know, people who are not in good shape
because it will dehydrate the hell out of you immediately,
and some people won't be able to keep up with
the Other thing is people won't get medical attention right away.

Speaker 5 (11:42):
Still just feel like, well, I got the I got
the trucks.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
Yeah, this could be anything, but the way this woman
describes it, it's a little more than that. It's like,
as my brother and I used to call it, the
Kentucky Kentucky conundrum. Coming Yeah, farmer one eighty was another
term for it. Farmer.

Speaker 6 (12:07):
I don't feel like people are talking about the other
end as much. I feel like they're only talking about
the diarrhea.

Speaker 5 (12:14):
Yeah. No, you're vomiting NonStop.

Speaker 6 (12:16):
That's no good.

Speaker 5 (12:17):
No, it's terrible for you for a lot of reasons.

Speaker 6 (12:20):
For esophagus and teeth.

Speaker 5 (12:22):
Yeah, your teeth not good for the teeth.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:25):
So there's all of those fun things. But here's the
other part of it.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
Because we have a bunch of idiots in charge who
won't even try to help us here in this newest
super fun killer diarrhea epidemic. There are things you can
do to still have vegetables and be safe, and the
first thing is cook them. The main thing is get
frozen vegetables, get canned vegetables. The one is if you

(12:52):
have fresh ones, then blanch them, you know, call them blanched.
Put them in a hot you know, boiling water. I'm
made treating like a Southern battle plunch. I made a
vegetable soup last night. How'd that go? Good? Yeah?

Speaker 11 (13:07):
But it was, you know, super hot, and you're sort
of like sweating eating it in your own home. Yes,
it was a safe way to get some veggies in
I know. And I went no veggie yesterday just because
I didn't have the option, and I feel it. No,
I hate it and I hate it. I had like
salmon and potatoes. It felt very My stomach did not

(13:28):
love that. But and then I was like, is this
it is this my time? Frozen like berries and fruits
and stuff like that.

Speaker 13 (13:38):
Canned.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
You know, it's not our favorite way to eat vegetables.
But still you can eat vegetables, just it's the fresh
leafy ones. Not to mention local farmers markets. If you
go to local farmers markets, you're gonna be okay. It's
not just like all of a sudden it's on all lettuce.
It's because of the way this lettuce has been being
irrigated at these mass of factory farms.

Speaker 5 (14:02):
Okay, so it's in the irrigation techniques. That's what I've read,
that it's.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
In the irrigation. Yeah, or or run off from those farms,
which is doodoo laden.

Speaker 11 (14:13):
I messaged you guys yesterday, but I went to the
grocery store and the amount of fresh produce they had
that was completely untouched. It was like walls of blueberries
and walls of raspberries, and I was like, you know,
I bet it's marked down. It's gotta be marked down. Yeah,
And I started to walk over and I'm like, dude,

(14:34):
what are you thinking. It's gonna be like two for
a dollar and you're gonna be like, yeah, two for
a dollar. Maybe I got a strong gut. Yeah, healthy biome.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
It's I'm telling you right now, like all these people
who are joking around like you get diarrhea, I have
diarrhea right now. Okay, wait, what do you can give
me morea diarrhea? Yeah, idiot, yeah, more weeks and weeks
of die a seven weeks and then the aftershock diarrheas

(15:06):
that come weeks after that and you go through about
again and your liver gets decimated, like the inside of
your body gets totally destroyed. Now it's avoidable, you know,
so just be smart about it. Seven weeks of after
labor day. It depends on whether or not RF case's shadow.

Speaker 6 (15:28):
But yes, all right, final story here.

Speaker 7 (15:33):
Ann Wilson believes the demise of Heart's classic lineup came
down to one simple thing, and that was jealousy. During
a recent appearance on The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan,
Wilson explained the dynamic within the band started to shift
as Hart found commercial success in the seventies and and
her sister Nancy became the focus of media coverage, while

(15:54):
the band's male members were largely ignored by the press
because first they could see it bringing them success.

Speaker 6 (16:02):
But after a while they got really tired of it.

Speaker 7 (16:05):
Quote for instance, when Rolling Stone wants to do a
cover story on Heart, they only want to talk to Nancy,
and the singer explained, and that after a while got
really under the guy's skin. It became a thing that
separated the people in the band. Write down the gender lines.
So the very thing that made heart interesting and unusual,
the microcosm of men and women working together, became a
thing that ultimately destroyed the first lineup.

Speaker 5 (16:29):
Wasn't she in a relationship with one of them too?

Speaker 6 (16:32):
Nancy was?

Speaker 5 (16:33):
Nancy was Yeah?

Speaker 7 (16:34):
And then that guy left the band after they broke up.
I think, but that was in like seventy nine, okay,
said news This hour again brought to you by Keith.
Oh wait, now that that Keystone based misis. This is
your neighborhood Ford Store. It's mostly sunny and very hot today,
high of ninety five.

Speaker 4 (16:52):
All right, good deal on the way, as we promised,
mister Wednesday, if Conkle will be joining us. Also Steve
Byrne talking about the goad damn qualmity jam going on
this weekend, Mark Madden later on, did anybody watch the
All Star Game?

Speaker 5 (17:05):
I tried to watch a little bit, and I just
could not care.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
I couldn't do it. I just couldn't couldn't like summon
any sort of attention toward it at all. We talked
yesterday about it meant a lot, that it meant nothing.
Then they made the stakes too high, and now it
means nothing again, and there's nothing to be done, right.

(17:29):
I mean I did see Livvy Done and Paul Skans
on the carpet and tried to, you know, just figure
it out in terms of what Livvy Done does now
except she's just hot now right now, she's just hot
and on TikTok.

Speaker 14 (17:45):
Yeah, the fit, I can't they're obviously she's beautiful, no
no introduction needed, But you guys match?

Speaker 6 (17:50):
How did this come about?

Speaker 4 (17:52):
He told me what color is.

Speaker 15 (17:54):
Wearing and then I just went Accordingly, that's literally it.

Speaker 14 (17:57):
It looks very good.

Speaker 8 (17:58):
How proud of you?

Speaker 14 (17:59):
Of the miles on that he continues to make, and
just the player and the person.

Speaker 4 (18:03):
That he's becoming.

Speaker 6 (18:04):
He's awesome.

Speaker 15 (18:04):
I mean, he's amazing at what he does every single
day on the field and off the field. So I'm
just lucky to do it by his side and take
notes for my own life too, because honestly, he's a
great guy.

Speaker 14 (18:17):
How do you guys feed up of each other? Obviously
a star in your own right and what you're doing.
How do you guys feed up of each other and
help each other grow?

Speaker 16 (18:24):
Yeah, I think that's it, just because I think there's
we relate in that way, and.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
So it's not easy.

Speaker 16 (18:33):
But I think, you know, it's been a few years
now and we've learned how to do it and how
to make each other better. I think our personalities just
make each other better too, so uh, yeah, it just
works all right.

Speaker 14 (18:45):
Last question for me, Guys, you're watching the home run
derby last night. Obviously a great finish with Jordan Walker
against Kyle Schober. Of all those guys that were hitting fingers,
who would you least like to face?

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Oh?

Speaker 16 (18:55):
I faced them all. I don't like facing any of them,
but I think about having them with hit a home
run off me already.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
So yeah, Livvy Done just delightful there, and it's just
a nice relationship advice from Paul Skeens and Libby Done.
Sken's deeply uncomfortable in those situations. I guess he's getting
better at it. But yeah, I thought he was actually
a little better there than he had been in the past.
I think better commercial really, you know, it's the love

(19:22):
of a good woman that apparently brought him to the
forefront here and allowed him to start conducting better interviews.
He seems more comfortable in his own skin, but also
with this recent cyclospora outbreak that's going on right now
and the All Star Game happening at the same time.
It reminded me of my all time favorite baseball interview,
chan Ho Park from the Yankees being asked about being

(19:47):
out for a couple of games because he was sick. Oh, sick.

Speaker 5 (19:53):
I had a lot of that.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
Yeah, that's what you want to know. I had that idea.

Speaker 17 (20:09):
Yeah, I had an idea and then uh, why it's funny.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
I mean.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
Save it.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
Yeah, the.

Speaker 17 (20:28):
Off day, off day, A lot of idea, and I feel.

Speaker 4 (20:33):
Afraid about fool.

Speaker 18 (20:34):
I know yesterday I was fool too, taken a little
a lot of cough just chesting her and if you're
diagree sometimes.

Speaker 9 (20:46):
Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 4 (20:47):
Yes, He's like, what.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
That's the term.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
You cannot understand why they think it's so funny, Like
Marianna Rivera is like howling in the back.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
He's like, save it. Yeah, say so anyways, back to
uh yeah, diarrhea. I love diarrhea. Night's coming up next
with your sports here on the DV morning.

Speaker 9 (21:11):
Show, This is We Get Back at the Greedy Jackals
in Sales week Day's eight ten with Michelle, she brings
you a workforce commercial free rock block on one oh
two point five DV.

Speaker 5 (21:25):
Live from the Donz Appliance in studios Mike Jud's Got
Your Sports now on av Money Show, Mike, what's going on? Sports?

Speaker 13 (21:33):
Is?

Speaker 5 (21:33):
I brought to you by Bridgeville Appliance.

Speaker 19 (21:35):
Not much drama in the All Star Game last night
in Philadelphia, four to nothing. The American League wins it
first shutout in an All Star Game since twenty thirteen.
The AL got three runs in the top of the
first and that was pretty much the ballgame. Miguel Vargas
of the White Sox hit a home run solo shot

(21:56):
in the eighth inning to complete the scoring. Four seven
and zero for the American League. Oh three, you know
for the National League? Eleven American League pitchers held the
National League to three hits and two walks while striking
out fifteen.

Speaker 5 (22:12):
Just not a lot going on.

Speaker 19 (22:14):
You really like pitching? Yeah, but in an All Star Game,
I think people want to see some fireworks. Yeah, Cody
Bellinger or the Yankees, you're MVP. He went one for
three with a two run single.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
Ay, that constitutes valuable in a boring ass game like that.
I'm so glad I didn't spend any time with it.

Speaker 19 (22:38):
I watched the first inning and said, you know what, eh, yeah,
I mean it's I got to make some business decisions
now with this detour because I'm leaving earlier.

Speaker 5 (22:48):
Oh yeah, how much earlier? Half hour?

Speaker 8 (22:53):
What?

Speaker 5 (22:54):
And what is is it also a half hour on
the way back or slightly more? Well, that depends what
time of day it is.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
There.

Speaker 5 (23:00):
There are a couple hours FI throughout twenty eight option.

Speaker 19 (23:03):
If you live east of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel, you
can do the turnpike from Monroeville to Harmerville and then
take Route twenty eight in and the time that I'm
coming in at least is cruising.

Speaker 5 (23:15):
Just takes a little longer coming back.

Speaker 19 (23:22):
It wasn't a day at the beach going through the
Squirrel Hill Tunnel in the afternoon when the bridge was unobstructed.

Speaker 4 (23:29):
So you know, it is what it is.

Speaker 19 (23:31):
Hey, a couple of weeks and it'll all be better.
But the point is I wasn't gonna stay up and
cost myself sleep watching.

Speaker 5 (23:37):
The all start.

Speaker 4 (23:37):
No, yeah, right, there's no no reason to do that.
Didn't you get to watch the World Cup game? I
watched the World.

Speaker 19 (23:43):
Cup game intently, and Spain played intently and I thought
France competed just Spain was the better team yesterday to
nothing for the Spanish. They move on to Sunday's final.
France actually wound up out shooting Spain three to two
in terms of shots on goal, but the French didn't

(24:04):
get there first until we were in the eighty something
minute stage of the game. Yeah, Spain scoring on a
penalty kick early twenty two minutes in. It seems to
be a lot of controversy about that. Looked to me
like a guy got kicked in the thigh in the box.

Speaker 4 (24:19):
Yeah, after he made contact with the ball too. I mean,
you know that's a penalty, right, Yeah, it is. It's uh.
I think people want to always apply rules of like hey,
when I played, they would let you play through that.
It's like, well, you're not a pro feret like they had.
There are rules for these guys because they're all machines

(24:40):
and that kick could actually like rupture the guy's spleen.
You're not allowed to just kick a guy in the
penalty box or anywhere from that matter, as far as
I'm concerned. Even the amount of tackles that they call, Like,
you know, I played for almost twenty years. A lot
of the tackles that get called now like you play
on you know, back in the day and now because

(25:01):
you know, I mean, I'm sure Hugh's var and it's
just like, ah, Spike's up, that's a that's a penalty.

Speaker 5 (25:07):
I would assume there's a nuance and a protocol to it.
You know.

Speaker 19 (25:09):
One of the great things about having Gene's terrator on
for as many years as we've had him now is
he can explain what the mind set, yeah, and the
processes for calling past interference or calling you know, some
of these controversial plays.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
Uh.

Speaker 19 (25:24):
You know, not every example of contact is going to
result in the foul, but that one the guy got
kicked in the thigh in the box and the ball
had just hit him. I don't know if he can
say he was playing it was twisted. He's trying to
knock it down and defenders just focused on the ball.
He's trying to follow it out of there, and he
doesn't realize someone's coming to play the ball and got
it responsible for your sticks say that, yeah, it's been

(25:46):
responsible for you le Uh.

Speaker 5 (25:47):
But you know I thought France kept coming.

Speaker 20 (25:49):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (25:50):
It looked bad after Spain got the second goal for
they were defensively sloppy.

Speaker 19 (25:55):
Fifty eight minute mark. That two to one or that
give and go was pretty though, gorgeous second goal, gorgeous.
Spain had some extended pressure going and they got France
running around a little bit. You know, some of these
principles apply to different sports, Yeah, particularly what you've seen
hockey and basketball.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
I think you've see in soccer just a little different context. Yeah,
and France had an open net that they blew.

Speaker 19 (26:17):
Yeah, and also mabape, who do you want the best
scorer or the best defensive team? Because that's six shutouts
in a row. Now for Spain, how about that six
shoutouts in the tournament?

Speaker 4 (26:27):
Yeah, in the row. But when they had a goal
taken back that was also super pretty very close.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (26:32):
I mean that's why Vaar sucks.

Speaker 4 (26:35):
I'm sorry, it's when you're talking about that little of
an advantage.

Speaker 19 (26:40):
Because in the old days, before instant replay, you would
have saw that play and thought that's fine. Yes, And
you know, just like X number of plays in baseball
and football, you know, replay goes too far.

Speaker 5 (26:51):
It always goes too far.

Speaker 19 (26:53):
England against Argentina today, that'll be the game that decides
Spain's opponent on Sunday and Penguin's doing a little business yesterday.
They avoided arbitration with forward Nick Robertson. He gets a
two year contract with an average annual value of three
point twenty five million. Kyle Dubs hoping to strike some

(27:16):
similar lightning, such as he did last year with Anthony Mantha.
Robertson five nine, one hundred and eighty pounds. He's twenty
four years old. He had career highs of sixteen goals,
sixteen assists and thirty two points in seventy eight games
with the Leafs last year. Perhaps he is ascending two
hundred and thirty four career NHL games, he only has
forty eight goals and eighty eight points, so on the surface,

(27:38):
not a move that moves the needle, unless if for
some reason, impacts their ability to get their hands on
his brother. If that's the case, if they get the
Robertson from Dallas, this guy can sell popcorn.

Speaker 5 (27:55):
I don't care.

Speaker 19 (27:58):
Also, Ellie Friedman of Hockey in Canada reporting that former
Toronto assistant GM Brandon Prideum is going to be joining
the Pens as a hockey operations consultant. He will take
care of contracts, cap management and planning responsibilities. They got
a lot of guys in charge of planning responsibility. What
are they planning?

Speaker 5 (28:18):
Oh know, must be something pretty big.

Speaker 4 (28:20):
A lot of plans.

Speaker 5 (28:21):
Yeah, guys, so make the plan. Check the plan. Plan
for what they do after the plan?

Speaker 2 (28:27):
Plan B.

Speaker 5 (28:28):
You gotta plan B. Well, yeah, you know, before they
take it away. Stock up. Abby's got your news coming
up top of the hour.

Speaker 7 (28:34):
Scarehouse as a new home with the Halloween hangout and
you need to tell your kids to stop putting their
squishies in the microwave.

Speaker 4 (28:41):
Mister Wednesday. Jeff Conkole coming up next, streaming on all
your devices.

Speaker 5 (28:45):
No matter where I go, I always listen to DV.

Speaker 9 (28:48):
Comedy, sports and the rock you grew up with. Save
DVE as a pre set on a free iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
Does your Driveway EV Morning show? And it's Wednesday, that
means it's time. I'm for mister Wednesday.

Speaker 21 (29:01):
You shake unchy much shame and you're looking for mister Wednesday.
Yes you're looking mister wells well you got I'm Jeff

(29:25):
conco Mister Wednesday.

Speaker 5 (29:26):
Can your buddy appropriate tone?

Speaker 4 (29:28):
Appropriate tone for today, because as we all know, summer's over,
school starting.

Speaker 8 (29:32):
This is it.

Speaker 4 (29:32):
We're done.

Speaker 5 (29:33):
It's July fifteen. Oh, that's it. It's the halfway marked.

Speaker 4 (29:38):
Literally, you said this last week because you just got
back for vacation.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
I say this when June sixth happens. I say that
that summer's over. But don't you feel like we've we've
sort of reached the nay deer.

Speaker 4 (29:48):
This is the tipping point that it's it's going to
it's going to start getting Halloween's going to be here. No,
I refuse to surrender summer. Two full weeks of July
left in a full of August.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
The second you got to take the kids back to
school shopping or you see target throw up a hey
you need a binder?

Speaker 4 (30:06):
That's it for me.

Speaker 5 (30:07):
Gets you out of the phrase.

Speaker 4 (30:10):
I as to get psyched about a trapper keeper, like.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
The traffic keeper.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
Well, listen, because I'm paranoid about this stuff. I have
serious fomo. So every summer I know that the winter's coming,
and so I always have to check a bunch of
boxes to make myself feel good that I've done enough.

Speaker 5 (30:26):
For the summer.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
So I have my end of summer Pittsburgh checklist.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
These are things that pretty much any self respecting Pittsburgh
has to do before the summer's out to feel complete
and whole about their experience.

Speaker 2 (30:37):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
Number one, scald your feet on the sand Castle boardwalk.
Apparently at some point sand Castle partnered with the All
Clad frying Pan company to coat their boardwalk and a
corrosion resistant nonstick coating that, in the heat of summer,
reaches the temperature of a dying star. When you walk
with God through troubled times, you only see one set

(30:59):
of foot, Prince.

Speaker 5 (31:00):
It's not because God is carrying you.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
It's because it's July and you vaporized your feet trying
to prance from the boardwalk.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
Blaster to the blue Tubaaluoma. So that's one recent visit. Yeah,
not not yet.

Speaker 4 (31:12):
These are just old injuries. I thought sand Castle was closed.
No no, no, no, no, okay, all right, don't yell.
That's okay. Number two, run from a crowd of unruly
teens at Market Square. Any self respecting Pittsburgh has to
do this, And I gotta be honest with you. Teens
are outside, they're bored. Okay, they're causing a little bit

(31:34):
of chaos.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
But as I was watching Spain beat France in the
World Cup game, I had an idea. Okay, we have Verona,
they have Pamplona, so why don't instead of the Running
of the Bulls, we just get a bunch of brusher
high school kids, which mascot is the Bulls, pen them
up in Market Square, invite Taurus and we'll have the

(31:57):
running of the Brisher Bulls. Just have high schoolers chase
unsuspecting tourists in white pants all through the all through
the city.

Speaker 5 (32:04):
They'll have to clamber over jersey barriers just to get out.

Speaker 4 (32:07):
We'll lure them into acrossure stadium where their parents will
take away their phone privileges.

Speaker 5 (32:12):
Okay, so we like that. Have you have you had
the Market Square experience?

Speaker 3 (32:16):
Yeah, but it was at it was at first night
the Earth that were or light up night whatever. There's
a there's a crowd of kids that were just yelling
gun and then forty of them were running in a direction.
So you know that was fun for families and whatnot.

Speaker 6 (32:34):
That's how you start the running of the bus.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
Yeah, gun man, Okay, number three wait in a forty
two minute food truck line so you can pay nineteen
dollars for two tacos. That's nothing lures suburban dorks like
me to an event like the promise of a food truck.
But the thing that we have to understand is that
suburban knights are both impatient and incredibly cheap. So trying

(33:01):
to charge me seven dollars for a pepsi, buddy, I
don't think so. This aint panc Park.

Speaker 11 (33:05):
The best food truck experience like that is a wait
in a forty minute line for a like the wood
fired pizza food truck, and then wait forty more minutes.
Oh yeah, because you're ordering.

Speaker 3 (33:17):
This is what I never understand about a food truck,
Like you know there's going to be people there, make
some in advance, like roll up to the place with
twelve to thirteen pulled pork sandwiches ready to fire out
the window.

Speaker 4 (33:28):
Well, I'll tell you my favorite food truck is now
brick and mortar, and it was just rolled up. It
was it was sushi in poke bowls and it was amazing.
But my initial trepidation was, you know, raw fish coming
out of a truck probably.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
Not the smartest, but this They got a lot of
raw fish deliveries on Sawmill run boulevard.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
This guy did it.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
He had the refrigeration down like he had an awesome
truck and it was every single time amazing. And he's
got a brick and mortar now in Liberty, right right
right around the corner from Liberty.

Speaker 5 (34:05):
Oh yeah, it's real good.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
Nice.

Speaker 5 (34:08):
Okay, Well, well there's one in Callier.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
You're saying, there's one right down, like as you're getting
in the Carnegie, there's a brick and mortar. It's incredible,
just rolled up. Oh no, no, it's a it's a
it's a brick and mortar, brick and mortar. It's called
brick and mortars. It's called brick and mortar and is
part of a brick and mortar storefront. Yeah, okay, that's
that's solid. That is like you know, that's a hat
on a hat. All right, it's still summer. You got
to clean out your shed. Okay, you got to do that,

(34:31):
and you got to ask yourself the hard questions. Do
the kids really need that World War two era toboggan
that you picked up from your neighbor's estate sale.

Speaker 5 (34:40):
Why do you have four rakes? What are all the
rakes for? What are you supposed to do? With all
these freaking paint cans.

Speaker 3 (34:48):
Luckily, for home owners right now, recently under revised EPA guidelines,
you can go ahead and just dump those paint cans
directly into the storm water drain.

Speaker 5 (34:55):
It's great. It's somehow a tax credit. Now, that's good. Okay.

Speaker 3 (34:59):
How at number five talk about going to Lake Erie
for the day. You don't do it, but you definitely
talk about it. It's Wednesday. It's nice you say to
your spouse, should go up to Erie for the day,
But then you map quest it or Google maps or whatever,
and you just end up going to the South Park
wave for instead.

Speaker 5 (35:16):
Yeah, all right, Number six, that's fine, stay away, stay away.
Randy doesn't watch you up there. Don't want the idea
of Erie.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
Sounds nice, but then you look and it's a two
hour and twelve minute drive.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
Not doing it.

Speaker 5 (35:29):
Yeah, that's if you drive like a sissy.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
I do.

Speaker 5 (35:32):
All right, Well, there you go. Number six, get sunburned
once you sissy.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Come on.

Speaker 3 (35:39):
Solar radiation levels are at their absolute peak, but that's
still no reason to lotion another man's back. Real men
don't wear sunshirts and SBF fifty. Real men get so
sunburned they can peel their armskin off like a corn husk.
Real men get so sunburned that they can feel someone
turn on a kitchen stove from fifteen feet away. Real
men play Connect the Dots with their earlar raised and

(36:00):
asymmetrical moles. This statement has not been approved by the
American Dermatology Association. And finally, number seven, suppress a panic
attack while listening to a cover band and an outdoor
concert playing a song that you realized came out in
nineteen ninety seven.

Speaker 5 (36:15):
Which was thirty years ago.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
In Jesus, you're in your forties and you have an
epiphany that time is a waterfall and there truly is
no going back.

Speaker 5 (36:25):
Man who knew semi charmed kind of life could have
that kind of time?

Speaker 4 (36:30):
Mister Wednesday, Jeff Concole, This morning here a DV Abby's
got your news.

Speaker 5 (36:33):
When we come back, Scarehouse.

Speaker 7 (36:35):
Has a new home, and you got to tell your
kids to stop putting their squishes in the microwave.

Speaker 5 (36:39):
We are trying to health the economy. One DVE listener
at a time, great timing interest.

Speaker 9 (36:46):
Listen for your chance at Workforce Cash nine am through
nine pm. You'll get thirteen chances a day to win
a thousand bucks in workforce cash on DVE.

Speaker 19 (36:57):
Hey, let's talk about the roof on your home. A
lot of you we'll need to replace your roof this summer.
But before warned. There are roofing companies out there that
skip over the most important part of the process attic ventilation.
You see, if your attic doesn't have proper air circulation,
it can cause problems like mold in wood rot leaks
in the winter, not to mention higher AC bills in

(37:17):
the summer. It's one of the reasons I recommend MHI roofing.
Their process begins with a free twenty one point roof
inspection that includes a thorough inspection of your attic. If
the ventilation isn't right, they know the roof will be
built on a shaky foundation. Every MHI roof comes with
a well thought out attic ventilation plan. That's why they
can offer a fifty year leak free guarantee on every

(37:40):
roof they install. Money saving discounts and financing incentives are available.
Call for your free twenty one point roof inspection and
estimate today. Four one two eight one nine twelve fifty

Speaker 22 (37:57):
Wor turn up the heat here at Crown BANSBCMA and
your og bow tie God has.

Speaker 17 (38:02):
Some sizzling deals.

Speaker 4 (38:03):
Oh, we'll drive Outlander Trail Edition zero PCIP.

Speaker 5 (38:09):
Guaranteed Human Brandy.

Speaker 11 (38:13):
You shared a fun article last night, Oh the woman
who is laid up for parentheses or for quote weeks.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
Yes, it is an interview with a woman in Ohio
who went through weeks of the Do Doo disease, And
as much fun as we've been making of it, you
do not want this. It's weeks of diarrhea. By the way,
weeks of diarrhea will be in the coffee house O

(38:42):
week weeks spelled with an A. But yeah, it's weeks,
and it's gonna kill a bunch of you know, people
who are not in good shape. It will dehydrate the
hell out of you immediately, and some people won't. People
to keep up with it. The other thing is won't
get medical attention right away. So just feel like, oh,

(39:02):
I got the I got the trups. This could be anything,
but the way this woman describes it, it's a little
more than that. It's like as my brother and I
used to call it the Kentucky Kentucky Conundrum, Brandy Bellman
and the DVE Morning Show, Which side do you let
the toilet have? It's kind of where it'll end up there.
Jeff Concoin, Mister Wednesday, is hanging out with us here

(39:23):
this morning on DVE and Abby's got your news right now.
We've got Steve burn talking about the god Damn Qualmity
GM coming up this weekend. Also Mark Madden a little
bit later on as well. A reminder of the Pittsburgh
Power Bow Challenge finale took place Monday night. We taped
it to put together for you, and we will air

(39:43):
it Friday morning. I believe it starts at seven am.

Speaker 3 (39:47):
And I am excited to hear the live tape because
we did a couple in show you know, segments on it.
Then I started really enjoying the songs, so I want
to hear some live. I want to hear the commentary.

Speaker 4 (39:59):
I don't know Abby or Tad, but those freaking songs
are still in my head.

Speaker 6 (40:05):
They are pretty easily. They all had good choruses.

Speaker 4 (40:09):
The winning song is really in my head, yeah, totally,
and it's driving me crazy. Has been for a few weeks.

Speaker 5 (40:15):
And now I hate it.

Speaker 7 (40:17):
No, and the performers were very good, like everybody could
do well.

Speaker 5 (40:20):
No one had laryngitis.

Speaker 6 (40:22):
No laryngitis happening.

Speaker 5 (40:24):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (40:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (40:25):
So that'll be Friday morning.

Speaker 4 (40:26):
And it's brought to you by Mike Kelly Automotive dot Combat,
Parks online at Casino, Sportsbook and better call si Abby's
got your news right now.

Speaker 5 (40:35):
What's going on?

Speaker 7 (40:36):
Is this hours brought to you by Keystone Basement Systems
wet Basement Keystone Basementsystems dot com. It's mostly sunny and
very hot today with a high of ninety five. Scarehouse,
a nationally recognized haunted attraction, is partnering with the Plaza
at the North Shore to launch the Halloween Hangout in Pittsburgh.
The Halloween Hangout will feature a variety of haunted experiences, events, movies,

(40:58):
and themed food trucks Strengths that runs from October first
through the thirty first is month long activations and new
concept combining diverse Halloween entertainment rather than being a traditional
haunted attraction. So the partnership commits to a multi year
effort to create a new Halloween tradition for Pittsburgh residents

(41:18):
and visitors. The experiences are designed to be customized, offering
new and surprising elements with each visit throughout the month.
So apparently it's supposed to be a living, evolving experience
where no two visits will ever be the same.

Speaker 4 (41:33):
It's like open source, like people just bring your own
costumes down, no background checks required, bring your own chainsaw.

Speaker 7 (41:41):
It sounds like they're also going to do like ticketed
events too, like well, they'll do like the Rocky Horror
Picture Show and stuff.

Speaker 5 (41:45):
Are you into that kind of stuff?

Speaker 2 (41:46):
Though?

Speaker 4 (41:47):
No, me neither.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
This is like the one shameful thing of like you know,
Jeff Conkle in eighth grade, Like when everyone's like, let's
go to the you know, one hundred acre manor whatever
you know, or thousand acre Man or whatever that is,
or let's go to the South Park Scarehouse or anything
like that, I'd be.

Speaker 4 (42:04):
Like, I'm just gonna play game gear at home. Like
I was just it was not into it. I knew
that that everyone's just like why chicks will be there?

Speaker 3 (42:12):
I was like, you think a girl is going to
really start batting her eyelashes at me? When another eighth
grader jumps out of a bush and I go like,
that's not gonna happen. It's going to backfire on me.
So I just avoided it. And I still kind of avoided,
I don't We went to Fright Night one time, and
even then as a as a I think it was

(42:33):
like thirty five or something like that, I was like,
I don't like this. I don't like people jumping out
at me and trying to make me pee a little bit.
Like I didn't like that trying to make you pee
a little bit.

Speaker 4 (42:43):
Yeah, I mean it would be tough to get a
girl to ever look at you the same again after
you run away.

Speaker 5 (42:49):
Limp wristed in a high pitched screen.

Speaker 3 (42:51):
Yeah, that's why I wasn't trying to not trying to
put myself in I know what situations that will make
me look bad, and I just don't put myself in those.

Speaker 4 (42:59):
Situation I was.

Speaker 11 (43:01):
I went to Catholic grades. I'm sorry. I went to
Catholic grade school, and uh, I guess for a couple
of years they let the eighth graders create their own
haunted house in this one like abandoned classroom.

Speaker 4 (43:13):
Yikes. Yeah, so I was in kindergarten and these deranged
eighth graders had their at their own haunted house set up.
So you walk in and you're like walking through like
basically like a box fort, you know, like tunnels of
cardboard boxes and they're banging on the boxes and screaming.
But then when you got to the end, this one
eighth grader, he was like he would grab he grab

(43:37):
my hand and he's like stick.

Speaker 5 (43:38):
Your hand, dude, my throw up and jam my hand.

Speaker 4 (43:48):
He jammed my hand into a chafing dish filled with
cream corn and it was like room temperature. I was like,
oh my god.

Speaker 8 (44:00):
And that was the end.

Speaker 5 (44:01):
That was like the finale of the Haunted House.

Speaker 4 (44:04):
I mean that horrifying enough as a kindergartener, Yeah, no way.

Speaker 5 (44:08):
I like that one.

Speaker 4 (44:09):
That's that's stick your hand, min what it was the
final boss of the Haunted House.

Speaker 5 (44:16):
That's such an eighth grade.

Speaker 4 (44:18):
Like, you know, what's gonna gross these kids out and
scare them? What if there was a huge tray of
bar and you could jam their little hand into it
because they can't do anything about it, what are you
going to do? Oh god, I mean it is hard.
I don't know, it's tough for me to get I
think the what might be funny this year or spooky

(44:38):
is if you like walked in, you know, with all
of the stuff that's going on with the outbreak, and
then there was like like you walk in and then
all of a sudden, chanho park comes out.

Speaker 17 (44:53):
I had a lot of doubt.

Speaker 4 (44:54):
Yeah what you want to know? Yeah, and then uh.

Speaker 17 (45:15):
Oh always funny, terrifying.

Speaker 1 (45:23):
Save it. Yeah the.

Speaker 5 (45:28):
Off day, off day, I just running away from it.

Speaker 4 (45:34):
Well that's what it is. You'll be You'll have to
eat fresh vegetables at the end.

Speaker 11 (45:38):
Yeah, you have to join Jamie Lee Curtis in an
Activita commercial at the end to replace the biomes of
your gut.

Speaker 4 (45:46):
You know what.

Speaker 5 (45:46):
That's going to be a big seller. It is bactivity. Yeah, yeah,
all the gut regeneration.

Speaker 4 (45:52):
If people end up having that, I actually think that
it's such a big news story and a lot of
people will start to do the thinks we were talking
about abby uh, frozen vegetables, canned vegetables, frozen berries and
stuff like that, just you know which are going to
be hard to find now of course, but stick with
that for a while till they figure out how to
get the doo doo disease out of your salad.

Speaker 7 (46:15):
I just can't take that the incubation period is so long,
because I wonder if I've already.

Speaker 6 (46:19):
Done it right.

Speaker 5 (46:21):
That's I posted this reel from a guy that today's
like staring off in nowhere.

Speaker 4 (46:24):
Do I have the diarrhea parasite?

Speaker 5 (46:28):
How long have I had the diarrhea parasite? When will
the diarrhea parasite.

Speaker 4 (46:33):
Come for me? Time is a flat circle, yes, because.

Speaker 6 (46:37):
How long are we supposed to go without eating vegetables?
What sallice?

Speaker 5 (46:43):
Also, some of your male friends have done it their
whole lot.

Speaker 6 (46:45):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 4 (46:47):
Don't forget like local farm go to farmer's market like
they're not having issues in you know, the like Butler wringled. Yeah,
like you can go farm fresh and BeO Okay. It's
the big factory farms where this is coming from. So
there are workarounds right now, and just be smart it

(47:08):
Just be smarter than the people in charge.

Speaker 6 (47:11):
Sounds like it's wing night.

Speaker 5 (47:12):
That's not hard to do.

Speaker 6 (47:14):
Oh, yes, you're just it's wing night every night.

Speaker 4 (47:17):
Now, Well you're just going about it a different way
at that point, exactly.

Speaker 5 (47:20):
Yeah, I earned this diarrhea. It's my choice.

Speaker 7 (47:24):
Yeah, if your children have the popular Niedo cubes. You'll
want to remind them not to microwave the squishy toys
despite what they see online. The Consumer Product Safety Commission
says that it has had about half a dozen reports
of children and teens heating up the toys and getting
third degree burns when the cube bursts, sending them for

(47:47):
emergency medical treatment. The toys are similar to a stress ball.
According to Shilling, which is the company that produces the Needo,
it's supposed to be quote a gratifying, super soft, super
stretchy dough filled group v glob.

Speaker 6 (48:01):
There's a lot of needles in my house.

Speaker 7 (48:03):
The burn is a chemical burn because these things contain
a chemical substance that has some sugars in it that
heat up to a high temperature and can cause.

Speaker 6 (48:12):
A burn very quickly.

Speaker 4 (48:14):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 7 (48:15):
Chilling president Paul Wininguard said that the company is working
with TikTok to remove influential content containing Needo product misuse.

Speaker 11 (48:22):
I think there was an episode of OZ where they
heated one on a microwave and threw it.

Speaker 4 (48:28):
Dude, I'm watching footage a kid that didn't. I mean,
this kid is absolutely just his whole face is massive. Yeah,
it's like really bad and he like the kid gave
a press conference from the look at that picture. The
kid gave a press conference a nine year old kid

(48:50):
about heating this stuff up serious.

Speaker 5 (48:52):
Burns after his needo cube exploded in the microwave.

Speaker 23 (48:55):
I didn't know it was.

Speaker 4 (49:00):
Because my friend did it before, but she put.

Speaker 5 (49:03):
It in for like she didn't get hurt.

Speaker 4 (49:06):
Well, yeah, I like that.

Speaker 5 (49:08):
He's like, I wasn't following a trend.

Speaker 13 (49:11):
Were a girl.

Speaker 5 (49:14):
I was in the microwavings before it becomes cool.

Speaker 3 (49:17):
This swoops his his hipster haircut over this, but it
didn't go well for poor calebol A University Medical Center
says Caleb is one of at least four cases they've
seen this year involving needle cubes.

Speaker 5 (49:28):
The company that makes need telling ABC News in a
statement that ensuring the safety yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.

Speaker 3 (49:33):
What is I don't understand, Like what benefit do they
get out of microwaving? It makes it softer and more
appliable or something like that makes it.

Speaker 7 (49:40):
Super soft, and and then they really like can squish
them in a different way because the needles are like
out of all of these squishy toys, which if anybody
has kids for whatever reason, these have become currency. Like
the kids in our neighborhood get together and they get
in little circles and they trade the barter. Yeah, it's
it's it's like a whole syst them. But with the needles,

(50:01):
they're a little bit tougher, so they're harder. You have
to squeeze them really hard to get them to be like,
you know, malleable and everything. But I think with this,
if you heat them up in the microwave, then all
of a sudden they're super squishy. The problem is is
that it makes them prone to then burst the boom.

Speaker 4 (50:17):
Yeah, well, I guess you can microwave plato to like
revive it or what I don't know, like and you
can you can make your own plato in the microwave. Yeah,
well that's what they say, flower salt water cream of tartar.
This sounds delicious. In microwave on high for one minute,

(50:39):
stir thoroughly, then microwave thirty seconds. The dough is still
ruddy or sticky. Keep microwaving. Look, if my parents would
have known this back in the day, there would have
been no play.

Speaker 5 (50:50):
Make your own plate. We've got plato at home.

Speaker 7 (50:52):
We had to do that when we were a little weird.
Not not that my parents wouldn't get us plato, but
there was like plenty of times that it's like.

Speaker 6 (50:58):
Hey, guess what we're doing today. We're making plain am
I right?

Speaker 13 (51:01):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (51:01):
Really?

Speaker 9 (51:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (51:01):
It's like half the funspience. It sounds, yeah, make your
own color. Come on, It's adorable and it smells different
though than regular play though.

Speaker 6 (51:11):
It smells like you kind of want to eat it.

Speaker 4 (51:14):
Oh yeah, well they did. I mean it's sell in
tartar tartar, tarter, targer smarter.

Speaker 6 (51:22):
All right.

Speaker 7 (51:23):
Everybody has their own distinct tastes when it comes to
comedic subject matter, with comedians themselves certainly no exception.

Speaker 6 (51:30):
Yet even then, Jerry.

Speaker 7 (51:31):
Seinfeld intense dislike for one unnamed comedian's work goes above
and beyond pure comedic preferences, is seen from his fiery
criticisms of that comedian on a twenty nineteen episode of
Comedians and Cars Getting Coffee. In that episode, Seinfeld appears
alongside fellow comedian Bridget Everett, who began discussing a personal
friend who also happened to be a fellow comedian, and

(51:55):
hearing the name of the comedian in question, Seinfeld went
on a lengthy tire about Everett's friend, criticizing his stand
up routine and the comedian's own differences with Seinfeldt's comedic style.
So quote, he used to rail against comedians because they
weren't as wild or as dangerous as he was.

Speaker 5 (52:12):
Because he sucked.

Speaker 7 (52:13):
He wasn't funny, and that's why he didn't get anywhere, period,
because in comedy, nobody gives an f if you're cool
or if you're lame.

Speaker 6 (52:22):
If you're funny, you win.

Speaker 7 (52:24):
And he's not funny, and that's why he had to
do that stupid effing voice because you have no effing act.

Speaker 4 (52:31):
I know who is podcast? Oh yeah, yeah, yes, okay, yeah, correct.
That whole scene is very uncomfortable because.

Speaker 11 (52:41):
I loved it, like screaming at the woman a little bit.

Speaker 4 (52:45):
Cert Well, you know why he doesn't like Seinfeld because
he was dating a seventeen year old girl and picking
her up from high school when he was thirty seven
years old.

Speaker 5 (52:53):
Now you go, yeah, yeah, like that.

Speaker 4 (52:56):
But if it wasn't somebody who's comedy you enjoyed, you'd
be like, yeah, that guy's the biggest pre in the world. Yeah,
that's see to me. Yeah, he's a thirty seven year
old guy that works with the garage down here and
he's picking up your seventeen year old daughter from high school.

Speaker 5 (53:07):
You didn't.

Speaker 3 (53:08):
I was rolling my eyes and you didn't let me
finish my eye roll. Bob Bobcat Goldwave, you think again.
I think you sort of mentioned it right there. You
think Bobcat Goldwave picks Jerry Seinfeld apart if Bobcat Goldwaf
is above Jerry Seinfeld Or was that just trying to
tear somebody who was having a ton of success down.

Speaker 5 (53:26):
No, I don't think they even remotely do the same thing.

Speaker 4 (53:29):
And at the time that he made those comments about
him too, it was like the end of his comedy
career when he was getting into directing and doing other things.
He kind of became a different artist, post Police Academy
and all of that crap. Now, does it come off
as like sanctimonious because it sounds like it's targeting popular
comedy and he's trying to get out the alternative cool way.

(53:50):
I feel like that's how the argument gets framed, and
that's it's understandable to be like, oh, screw you, go
to your cool little enclave of hip comedians who can't
draw any like, Seinfeld is one of the greatest all
time comedians, but his character is not beyond reproach.

Speaker 5 (54:05):
No, but that's why Seinfeld went.

Speaker 3 (54:09):
People get uncomfortable with Seinfeld because he is incredibly confident,
but some would say very arrogant. But when you hear
like he went on Maren's podcast, you know, whenever it
was right right around COVID and Mark Maren could not
wrestle with the fact that Jerry Seinfeld wouldn't cry at
something that he said, Like, He's just like, you need

(54:29):
to let the anger out, and Jerry's like, I'm not angry.
He's like, well, you need to let the darkness out,
and Jerry's like, man, I'm fine. And that bothered Mark Maren,
who only dwells in that type of thing, so much
that afterwards Mark Marron was like, he's a liar, he's
not letting us and maybe he's maybe that's true and
all that kind of thing, but I did not, Like,
clearly Maren has an aesthetic and a type that he

(54:51):
that Seinfeld does not.

Speaker 5 (54:52):
Fit, and it just clashed and so it just didn't work.

Speaker 4 (54:55):
I grant you that completely, but I also think you're
mischaracterizing what he was trying to get at in that interview,
which was that Seinfeld's whole conceit is that you don't
have to have darkness to be a comic. There does
not have to be a dark side of you. And
what Maren is saying is you are denying that there
are dark parts of you, that there are parts, and
he's like, no light as a feather is basically how

(55:18):
Seinfeld comes off. When when you listen to what Seinfeld said,
like and as he gets older, there are parts of
him that are easy.

Speaker 5 (55:25):
To see that's like, yeah, it's kind of screwed up.

Speaker 4 (55:27):
And if you're dating a seventeen year old girl and
you're almost forty, yeah, maybe there's a little darkness in
there somewhere that your comedy is being derived from that
you're not acknowledging. So that's now whether or not that's true,
it's an argument that has a lot of weight to it. Yeah,
but Seinfeld still I think his point is that Maren's missing.
The point is that in Seinfeld's been on multiple podcasts,

(55:49):
he says, if you're not constantly irritated at being alive
as a comedian, then it won't work for you. You
have to be constantly irritated at just being alive. I
feel like he's giving people what they say. He's like,
I'm irritated all the time about this stuff. I'm just not,
you know, making people, making the audience sad as.

Speaker 3 (56:08):
He's a little bit more of like a vaudeville type thing,
like he's part of the he like likes the show.

Speaker 4 (56:13):
And I think that that bothers some people, like Maren,
is inherently annoying. I mean that is like he acknowledges
that those are two different Well, there's a level of showmanship.

Speaker 3 (56:23):
I think that that's where the dividing line is. Like
one is a post you know, Carson Show showman and
one is a pre Carson Show showman.

Speaker 5 (56:32):
And I think that that's. Yeah, it's an aesthetic divide. Yeah,
no question about that.

Speaker 4 (56:35):
But the Bobcat stuff, it, I mean that is coming
in retaliation for Bobcat lighting him up about dating an
underage girl and getting no flak for it. Well, he
was right about that, which is why I was surprised
that Seinfeld kept it in there, just like I don't
want to stir up anymore pots.

Speaker 5 (56:56):
Yeah, that sleeping Dogs lie here.

Speaker 4 (56:58):
Yeah, And I don't disagree with Seinfeld that that Bobcat
devolved as a comic into just shock when he started
lighting things on fire. You know, we had the best
like two hour hang with Bobcat. One time he came
in the studio and we hung out for like a
full two hours just nothing but like us talking with Bobcat,

(57:18):
and it was great. And he was talking about that
time when he was like, he lit the Tonight Show
set on fire, he lit our Sineo set on fire.
And he became this guy that like people were stunt
booking because they just thought he was going to create
a scene pre Internet, pre like you know, any sort
of social media where it was like, oh, how will
we get ratings, Let's book the guy who you know,

(57:38):
I wanted to say, like there was an episode of
Larry Sanders where they joke around about it and they
like get it ready for him to set the couch on.

Speaker 5 (57:48):
And he's like, yeh, I don't. I don't want to
do that.

Speaker 4 (57:50):
And I think that was at a time when he
discovered like, I don't want to be this kind of comedian.
And then he and Robin Williams became best friends, and
he directed him in a movie and then he kind
of his career went and their direction.

Speaker 5 (58:01):
Uh, and now he tours with Dana Gould.

Speaker 4 (58:03):
Actually, uh, they're they're kind of like those guys see
that they're San Francisco guys.

Speaker 5 (58:08):
Uh la.

Speaker 4 (58:08):
But yeah, but Bobcat's originally Boston, which is funny with
that whole when the when the the Boston comedy scene exploded,
Stephen Wright, Sweeney, Sweeney and all those guys, Bobcat was
one of the first guys, and he was like Kevin Meaney,
all those dudes.

Speaker 5 (58:27):
He was one of the least developed. But I I
think there's comedy.

Speaker 4 (58:34):
Wait to Seinfeld's argument about Bobcat, but I think the
yeah sure for it all is a little deeper.

Speaker 6 (58:41):
Sure, mostly sunny today, very hot, I have ninety five.

Speaker 4 (58:44):
That being said, nobody has been as consistent a comedian
as Seinfeld.

Speaker 5 (58:49):
Seinfeld still destroys. He is like a master craftsman.

Speaker 3 (58:54):
It's like, I think the reason why I like him
so much is that he's a standard bearer for for quality.
Like they there's a lot of there's a lot of
low quality things that are out there. His act, at
least is still very high quality, so I like it well.

Speaker 4 (59:07):
And in this age of comedy, there's like the big
name comedians will put out a Netflix special and you
go to watch it and you're like, where are the
friggin jokes? Huffed up a little bit? It's just, oh,
we're just celebrating our celebrity now.

Speaker 3 (59:24):
The main im a good comedian is if you can
remember a bit that you heard them do one time. Yeah,
and I can remember a lot of Seinfeld bits.

Speaker 4 (59:31):
That's why I think Shane Gelli stands out from all
those other dudes who he's got in his wake.

Speaker 5 (59:36):
He's funny, he comes out and actually does comedy.

Speaker 4 (59:38):
Yeah, I'm going to come out and do comedy on
July first at the Pittsburgh Winery with Alex Homiak and
Chrissy Costa, who were just talking about the local The
local show is Alex Alex. I'm glad he's doing comedy again.

Speaker 5 (59:51):
Yeah, he's he's sort of back.

Speaker 3 (59:52):
So we're gonna be at the Pittsburgh Winery July Friday
first or July thirty Friday, July thirty first, Sorry, and
then I got the bunch of I got a couple
more big shows in August we're gonna be out of
Pittsburgh Brewing doing some outdoor comedy out there with Matt
Light at a big Iron City comedy festival, and then
me and Joe Bartnick doing some shows later in the

(01:00:12):

Speaker 4 (01:00:13):
Yeah, you go out of town for the DV Comedy Fest,
you come back and you book.

Condaddy dot com all right, it works.

Speaker 5 (01:00:39):

some merch. I probably should. You could have so much
cool merch. They may have a.

Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
Cricket I can use. I can stitch out some acrylic
uh iron ons. My kids do it as a summer project.
We'll just be dazzled. Conk on T shirts, puffy paint,
puffy paint.

Speaker 8 (01:00:59):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:01:00):

Speaker 5 (01:01:58):
Everybody, Let's go Yeah one tune three What's here? Sports?
Brought to you by Bridgeville Appliance. Take number one.

Speaker 19 (01:02:06):
Do you see what I see as the most optimistic
of pirates fans have. I can look at the stats
and see that the Bucks are tied for first in
Major League Baseball with five hundred and sixteen runs, first
with eight hundred and eighty six hits, sixth with one
hundred and twenty five home runs, first with four hundred
and ninety five RBI.

Speaker 5 (01:02:27):
First in batting at two sixty three. But wait, there's more.

Speaker 19 (01:02:31):
Second in on base percentage at three forty two, third
in slugging at four twenty six, and second in ops
at seven sixty eight.

Speaker 5 (01:02:40):
Welcome back, lumber company.

Speaker 19 (01:02:42):
But if you look beyond the offense, you'll see Paul
Skens looking consistently mortal, Mitch Keller collapsing in advance of
his traditional second half collapse, Braxton Ashcraft running out of innings,
Bubba Chandler running out of pitches before he pitches five innings,
and Jared Jones being handled.

Speaker 5 (01:03:00):
Like a shine a bobble head doll. We haven't even
got to the bullpen yet.

Speaker 19 (01:03:05):
Pirates fans deserve some hope for change at the All
Star break, and taking three from the Brewers before the
break ignit at some. But they've got miles to go.
Despite the sweet Oh that was clever I like that.
Take number two, winning football. When a great team is
confronted by an equally great or potentially greater one with

(01:03:26):
everything at stake, sometimes being opportunistic on offense and as
relentless as you have to be on defense is enough.
Turns out that works in soccer too. Spain made it
work on the way to the World Cup Final. I
don't know a great deal about soccer. Is my having
back France at the expense of a few hard earned
franks confirmed, But I do know if they don't score,

(01:03:49):
you can't lose. Sometimes that's all you gotta know. Take
number three, You get what you negotiate. Baseball's Midsummer Classic
included pre all Star games show fired on both sides
of the labor front. This just in the owners won
a salary cap and the players don't. At the end
of CBA Armageddon, there won't be one. We all know

(01:04:10):
that equalized sharing of local revenue maybe the best fans
can hope for on the competitive balance front. Wherever the
CBA dost eventually settles next season is in peril. Play
ball while get ken, there you go. The localized revenue

(01:04:32):
thing is a big deal to me. But but I
don't know why the owners would do that if there
isn't a cap, because that would just be the Yankees, Dodgers,
and Cubs thinking of the good of the leg and
not the good of themselves.

Speaker 4 (01:04:45):
They're not gonna do which nobody ever does what they're
gonna do.

Speaker 5 (01:04:48):
That's how the NFL got big. I know they put
the leg first.

Speaker 19 (01:04:53):
You know, if the Yankees are playing a bunch of
small market nobody's they're they're putting that on tea and
making money from it. If there are no small market nobodies,
they can't put it on TV and make a bunch
of money from it. Hey, you're preaching your choir, and
you know, I'd like a cap as much as anyone.
I mean, it works in football, works in basketball, works

(01:05:14):
in hockey. But there's only so much you can pay
these guys, Like eventually it's just wasted money. I don't
mean I'm trying to ford.

Speaker 4 (01:05:25):
Who's one of the guys that got paid Like after
a Rod got the two fifty mili who was who
has been worth Yeah, other than to this point Otani
Kevin Brown certainly wasn't when he got paid off. A
handful of guys has been a complete disappointment since he
got paid.

Speaker 5 (01:05:44):
Oh my god, that's he's exhibit A for what are
we doing here?

Speaker 13 (01:05:49):
Right?

Speaker 19 (01:05:50):
That's what I'm saying is that, like, so, if there's
no floor to drag the pirates and teams like that up,
at least if there's more local revenue, they may be
more inclined to drag themselves up.

Speaker 4 (01:06:02):
They won't though, because just like the business plan of
those greedy, you know, big market teams is to never
stop raking in as much as they can. I mean,
he does the same thing through the revenue sharing and
then not giving back under the guise of, oh, we're
going to take all of the revenue that we made

(01:06:23):
at P and C Park last year and it's all
going to go into the team. That never happens. He
always lies, they raise ticket prices.

Speaker 8 (01:06:30):
He is a.

Speaker 4 (01:06:31):
Despicable stain on the sports landscape of the city of Pittsburgh,
has been for decades, and we do nothing about it
because every city throws money at billionaires to make them
richer so we can keep our teams in our town.
And I'm telling you right now, this guy is the
worst thing to happen in Pittsburgh sports ever, because they

(01:06:56):
should have here it.

Speaker 5 (01:06:59):
When they made the.

Speaker 4 (01:07:00):
Playoffs the first time after thirty years of futility.

Speaker 5 (01:07:04):
It was twenty at that point in twenty something.

Speaker 4 (01:07:07):
That they did not spend and try to build around
what they had and when they could have gone on
a run.

Speaker 5 (01:07:13):
There just let you know se exactly what this guy
was all about.

Speaker 4 (01:07:18):
Someone told me who knows him, like, the thing is
he actually really wants to win, and I'm like, well,
then he's just terrible at this.

Speaker 5 (01:07:27):
I don't believe he really wants to win. Either you
do exactly, or you're too stupid to recognize that you
got to go. Either way, Ye're out.

Speaker 8 (01:07:36):
Well.

Speaker 19 (01:07:36):
I would suggest we got down to the PNC Park
with torches and pitchforks, but as I found out Saturday,
they don't always let you in.

Speaker 8 (01:07:43):
No.

Speaker 4 (01:07:43):
Yeah, you'll be waiting outside for four hours. I mean
that is such a typical Pirates move. Yeah, so you
schedule a doubleheader an hour after the first one it finishes,
and think we can wipe the stadium and bring a
whole new crowd in without making it a miserable experience
for everybody. A day after we blew off fireworks in
the in the daytime, just a joke, and this is one.

Speaker 19 (01:08:08):
Of their better years in recent memory, despite their ineptitude. Hey,
they brought the Bucco bricks back, Randle, they're on the
wall now. They're good. Not because of the way they
thought they were going to be good. That's such a
pirate thing. The reason they're good.

Speaker 5 (01:08:25):
They're like, oh, we.

Speaker 19 (01:08:26):
Were hitting okay, good because we thought we were gonna
be able to pitch and we sock.

Speaker 5 (01:08:30):
They were shooting for great pitching and average offense. Yeah,
that's right.

Speaker 19 (01:08:34):
They got great offense and really questionable pitching. Yeah, either way,
they landed in the middle. This is where they thought
they were going to be. But how tenable is that?

Speaker 5 (01:08:43):
And that your argument?

Speaker 19 (01:08:44):
And while localized and passionate is what the players association is.
They're to paraphrase their point on this is, Hey, there's
people that just aren't trying. You know, he's one of them.
He's always been one of them. You don't need a cap,
you need everybody trying.

Speaker 4 (01:08:59):
But then the larious thing that they do every once
in a while, they're like, hey, you know, the the
peasants are revolting. Let's give Matt Morris ten million dollars.
I'll they stick on ice in July. You know, like
they'll waste money occasionally under the guise of trying.

Speaker 5 (01:09:15):
Ye, well, it seems like this again.

Speaker 19 (01:09:17):
I think they're seventh from the bottom and payroll, so
it's not a dramatic shift, but it's a dramatic policy
change for them what they did going into the season
percentage wise.

Speaker 4 (01:09:27):
I mean, when you're talking about that bottom that's seven,
it's like, it's not like they're light years ahead of
the bottom two.

Speaker 19 (01:09:33):
If they're really committed, they'll sign low and find a
way to bring in a guy that's going to cost
him a lot of money.

Speaker 4 (01:09:38):
Yeah, because he'll presumably well.

Speaker 5 (01:09:40):
I'll tell you another thing.

Speaker 4 (01:09:41):
Skeenes was unreachable when this year started, and they were
going to be forgiven for not being able to sign him.

Speaker 5 (01:09:48):
And now I don't know, Well, if he pitches like
this for another year and a half, you one, I
know he's a star kidding.

Speaker 4 (01:09:56):
I know his girlfriend is a big celeb, and I
think he'shilarious.

Speaker 5 (01:10:00):
It would be great.

Speaker 4 (01:10:01):
I know Pittsburgh Dad ran into him on the red
carpet and asked him to police stay in Pittsburgh. He said,
all we got is you and Kennywood in the summertime,
and he goes, good to know that was all Skins. Yeah,
good to know, so he ain't playing on sticking around.
But you got Connor Griffin. You did the one good
thing except to keeps getting hurt. See.

Speaker 11 (01:10:24):
I feel like Livy Dunn is probably like, oh, Paul,
imagine when we're in La or New York, how great
life is going to be? You know, you think she
wants to live in blond Ox the rest of her days.

Speaker 8 (01:10:34):
I do not.

Speaker 5 (01:10:35):
I don't think they live in Blonnox. No, and you
know what, not a bad place to live. Like me too, well,
I don't think Libby Dunn would for.

Speaker 19 (01:10:43):
An average blonde Ox again, not for Paul Skins or
living done blonde Ox.

Speaker 6 (01:10:53):
Need something a little boogeier little bit?

Speaker 4 (01:10:55):
Is she more of a sickly kind of swickly bager
fox chapel little bit?

Speaker 5 (01:11:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:11:00):
It just pisses me off because you see how much
this is the cake that's where she should go everywhere.
It's Pittsburgh. It's just what kind of cake? We got
cake and we got home. Abby's got your news coming
up at the top of the hour.

Speaker 7 (01:11:16):
How many group chats are you in? And apparently if
you find an ant in your house, you shouldn't kill it.

Speaker 6 (01:11:22):
We'll tell you why.

Speaker 5 (01:11:23):
Steve Burne talks about the Goddamn Comedy Jam this weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:11:25):
Coming up here, Buckle up, DVEs. Chad Tysonon has your
soundtrack for the road. So he's got a reloaded cut
from the DVE Morning Show, Sports and a Workforce commercial
Free rock block at three afternoons with Chad Tysodon on DVE.

Speaker 5 (01:11:42):
HI, It's tech, Hey Morning show, Big, Good morning everybody.
Oh Pittsburgh, it's going to be one hundred and eight
degrees today and actually it's going to be a little
cooler though, oh well what is it?

Speaker 7 (01:11:55):
It was supposed to be ninety eight and now they're
calling for it to be like ninety five. It might
be a little less than that, but well, because Wednesday
is supposed to be the hotest day of the week,
I was slimpling up. But there's like Canadian wildfires again,
and the haze that's gonna make.

Speaker 6 (01:12:10):
It hard to breathe today is actually going to reduce
the temperature.

Speaker 17 (01:12:14):
Guys.

Speaker 4 (01:12:14):
That great, Uh, well that's kind of cool. Yeah yeah,
all right, Well, look we might not be able to breathe. Uh,
there's worms in the beef. There's uh, parasites in our greens,
giving us seven weeks of diarrhea. But at least women
can't get promotions in the military anymore. So I think

(01:12:35):
things are going good.

Speaker 6 (01:12:41):
Wait, there's worms in the beef.

Speaker 5 (01:12:43):
Yes, crew worms.

Speaker 4 (01:12:44):
Worms come on hungry, and there's a tick that well,
look here's the thing.

Speaker 6 (01:12:50):
And then there's a tick that's gonna make if you
if you let.

Speaker 4 (01:12:52):
The tick bite yet, you won't eat the screw worm beef.
It's really it's they've got it all figured out. They
eat safety ness, you et the screwworm to eat the
Paris site, and then I ate the tick to eat
the screw worm. This is one of those little, like
a grade school parable things. It's kind of Doctor Susian
at this point. But you know, with the weather being

(01:13:14):
as hot as it is, Oh, I want to point
something out. You know, the Pittsburgh Power Vowel Challenge was
Monday night, and it is going to be replayed for you.
Well played for the first time, I should say. We
taped it Monday night, the finale, and it'll be broadcast
Friday morning. Here, I believe, starting at seven o'clock and
it's great and you guys are gonna love it. And Abby,

(01:13:35):
Tad and Mike are very funny, and so are Mark
Madden and the Great Reb Beach and John Dollin from
Jen the Werewolf. Our celebrity judges and the contestants were amazing,
the songs were great, and they brought a great crowd.
It's a really fun broadcast. That'll be Friday morning here
on DV een. Of course you'll be able to podcast
the entire thing, and then a little further ahead on Monday.

(01:13:59):
Give me a little heads up now, our friend Greg Warren,
comedian Greg Warren, who is lighting up right now with
the Nate Bargatzi Cadre of Comics. He's going to be
flying in and spending the entire morning with us on
Monday because Greg has an enormous announcement that he wants
to make here on the DV Morning Show, not on

(01:14:23):
his podcast, not on Nate's podcast. He wants to come
here to make the announcement. And I'm very excited for it.
It's a really cool thing that's going on, and Greg
will let you know all about that on Monday, So
set your calendars for that Greg Warren live in studio
with the DV Morning Show this coming Monday now, with

(01:14:44):
temperatures getting up to ninety five degrees. As we said,
even though the smog from the wildfires will make it
a little more palatable out there, this really has been
the heat dome that we've been trapped under the last
couple of weeks, the absolute perfect weather for summer penises.

Speaker 5 (01:15:03):
Yes, that's right.

Speaker 4 (01:15:04):
And what I mean by that, of course, is the
condition in which men's penises appear to be much bigger
because of the heat. And it's a phenomenon that happens
every summer.

Speaker 9 (01:15:14):
And the.

Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
Doctors, I don't know, anatomists, anatomy people don't they have
labeled it summer penis. And you know, I always feel
compelled at least once a summer to play the summer
Penis song.

Speaker 5 (01:15:36):
It's pretty, I mean, it is catchy.

Speaker 24 (01:15:40):
Yes, do my penis hanging down my pants flow on
the very first hot June. I wonder why it's gotten
so much extra flow. Then I check the date and say, yeah,
that's right. Summer pieces sails me with my.

Speaker 6 (01:16:02):
Growing to a shafts when the sun shines the delicate
some a pens I feel like I gainst that.

Speaker 17 (01:16:16):
Someone swat with Jimmerlyn's Winner with mind.

Speaker 5 (01:16:21):
Contemporary reference, I saw penis.

Speaker 4 (01:16:26):
It is bigger this year.

Speaker 17 (01:16:30):
I wonder if that's a sufi change.

Speaker 4 (01:16:35):
Feel a little different when I'm want like my underpants
can't take much more.

Speaker 5 (01:16:43):
Then I look up back to the blazing sun. Then
be my saw a penis hitting the floor some of
pedrthy grapefa.

Speaker 4 (01:16:57):
Only the grape staves saves summer beans.

Speaker 5 (01:17:08):
Mimi bottoms when it crawls.

Speaker 3 (01:17:12):
Back to my fick.

Speaker 5 (01:17:17):
Autumn penis not.

Speaker 24 (01:17:18):
Great different my songs song God Long, I should rethink.

Speaker 4 (01:17:27):
The song.

Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
Yeah, can we not?

Speaker 4 (01:17:31):
Yeah? Maybe a right seals? You know what, let's let's
think about a breeze.

Speaker 9 (01:17:35):
Film something too.

Speaker 5 (01:17:38):
Where'd you get that hat?

Speaker 4 (01:17:39):
What's climate change?

Speaker 8 (01:17:40):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:17:41):
That's something Michael McDonald was saying Jackson Brown told him about.

Speaker 5 (01:17:43):
Remember we are Rupert Holmes's house. Jay Ferguson showed up.
It was just a big you know, it's a lot
of cocaine.

Speaker 4 (01:17:49):
Yeah, you know, I know, remember Seals and Cross rip
Seals or Cross one of them just died. Lot of embarrassment.
I think upon her from summer. Yeah, Abby's got your
news coming up? How many group chats are you in
Steve burn eight forty five, Mark Madden nine forty five,
Pittsburgh Win.

Speaker 1 (01:18:10):
Listen for your chats at Workforce Cash nine am through
nine pm. You'll get thirteen chances a day to win
a thousand bucks in Workforce Cash on DV.

Speaker 5 (01:18:20):
If your driveway or sidewalk is sinking doors guaranteed human.

Speaker 4 (01:18:28):
But then when you got to the end, this one
eighth grader, he was like he would grab he grab
my hand and he's like, stick.

Speaker 5 (01:18:36):
Your hand in my throw up, jam my hand.

Speaker 4 (01:18:46):
He jammed my hand into a chaping dish filled with
cream corn.

Speaker 5 (01:18:52):
And it was like room temperature. I was like, oh
my god.

Speaker 8 (01:18:57):
And that was the end.

Speaker 5 (01:18:58):
That was like the finanale of the Haunted House. I
mean that horrifying enough as a kindergartener, Yeah, no way,
I like that one.

Speaker 4 (01:19:06):
That's that's stick your hand. It was the final boss
of the Haunted us.

Speaker 11 (01:19:13):
That's such an eighth grade Like, you know, what's going
to gross these kids out and scare them?

Speaker 5 (01:19:18):
What if there was a huge tray of bar and
you could jam their little hand into it because they
can't do anything about it.

Speaker 8 (01:19:27):
What are you going to do?

Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (01:19:29):
Brandy Bellman and the DV Morning Show.

Speaker 4 (01:19:32):
So we were talking earlier about uh, cyclosporiasis and uh
how some people think like it's diarrhea, it'll go away
in a couple of days. This is an interview with
a woman in Ohio that had the parasite and just
give a listen to her depiction of what it's like

(01:19:54):
if you were.

Speaker 5 (01:19:55):
To contract it. No, it was pretty bad.

Speaker 8 (01:19:57):
It was.

Speaker 2 (01:19:57):
It was bad.

Speaker 25 (01:19:58):
It's embarrassing how bad it was.

Speaker 5 (01:19:59):
It was really bad.

Speaker 25 (01:20:00):
There were there were moments where I was literally just
camped out in the bathroom and like I don't care,
I'm just gonna lay.

Speaker 6 (01:20:06):
On this floor.

Speaker 25 (01:20:09):
And there was like one night and I'm not a vomitter.
One night I did have an episode of just like
it was. That was actually the turning port where I
was like the next morning, I'm like, okay, we're going
to the emergency room because I remember calling and.

Speaker 4 (01:20:22):
My baby came in and she's like, what do you need.
I was like something for me to get.

Speaker 25 (01:20:26):
This out in. So she's bringing me a trash can.

Speaker 6 (01:20:28):
And yeah, it was pretty bad.

Speaker 9 (01:20:30):
It was.

Speaker 5 (01:20:30):
It was bad.

Speaker 25 (01:20:31):
It's it's it's not for the week, I'll tell you that.
And it's kind of scary to think like the effects
that it would have on like elderly people or young kids,
or people who aren't healthy were already immunal compromised. Yeah,
it's pretty bad. I couldn't keep any solid food now.
I did everything I didn't. My friend joked and said

(01:20:51):
I was eating like a sick dog because I even
made like I made homemade chicken and rice, homemade chicken
and noodles. I couldn't eat any of it. Like, I
couldn't anything down. And I'm still I'm still actually on
the antibiotics, Like I'm not fully recovered yet. I still
have to go and get you know, follow up labs
because they want to make sure that my liver is

(01:21:12):
excuse me, that my liver is repairing and that everything
is kind of going back to where it needs to be.

Speaker 4 (01:21:19):
Weeks of illness, weeks of diarrhea.

Speaker 11 (01:21:23):
When she said if to see if my liver, excuse me,
I thought she was going to do it right there.

Speaker 4 (01:21:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:21:33):
Problem.

Speaker 7 (01:21:37):
The other component that we have not discussed is that
in order to know that it is cyclettle sporiasis, is
that you just send in a stool sample.

Speaker 5 (01:21:47):
Oh yeah, do you want to hear that part of
the interview she talks about, Oh, yes, got.

Speaker 6 (01:21:53):
The diagnosis gnosis.

Speaker 5 (01:21:54):
Did you do a stool sample and it came back? Yes,
so they did.

Speaker 25 (01:21:57):
They had me do a stool sample. They said, a
lot of peopeople aren't able to give them school samples.

Speaker 2 (01:22:02):
But that's how bad I was.

Speaker 5 (01:22:04):
A lot of people can't even give the sample.

Speaker 6 (01:22:09):
That's not stool.

Speaker 5 (01:22:14):
Remember when that game show was on ABC.

Speaker 4 (01:22:16):
That's not stool. Welcome, I'm Jim J. Bullock, your host.
I'm Chuck Woolry.

Speaker 5 (01:22:27):
Tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:22:31):
Is this your stool?

Speaker 8 (01:22:34):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (01:22:35):
And when they send it back, it's not just the results.
They send it all back.

Speaker 4 (01:22:44):
The labs like you can alright, box it back up.
We didn't want you to lose that tupperware, so.

Speaker 6 (01:22:57):
You're gonna have to clean it.

Speaker 5 (01:22:59):
So here you go.

Speaker 4 (01:23:01):
Doesn't look like it's been burned too many times. We
figured you'd want it back. Oh no, we thought that
was spaghetti sauce stuff. Yeah, it turns out I might
have been something else, But hey, these things are expensive.
Best of luck to you.

Speaker 5 (01:23:21):
Check in with us in a few weeks if you
haven't died of dysentery.

Speaker 7 (01:23:27):
Didn't Kevin Neil and have the bit about how everybody
has a popcorn bowl that's also a puke bowl.

Speaker 4 (01:23:34):
Yeah, so true. I think my go to is to
take the tiny bathroom waste can dump it out or
whatever is in there, which is usually a paper like
the the you know, toilet paper, and yeah, someth and
then just just barfing that.

Speaker 5 (01:23:53):
I remember when I was a kid, I'd be throwing
up violently, you know.

Speaker 4 (01:23:57):
I remember this from me like four years old, and
my dad would be like, Haysten, Jason passed the basin
ooop slop, passed them mop.

Speaker 5 (01:24:04):
I'm like, dad, wait one more time. I would be
like throwing up in the toilet.

Speaker 4 (01:24:10):
My dad would be like, Haysten, Jason passed the basin
oop slop pass them p I'm like, dude, please stoping,
like from the Navy or something. I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:24:20):
My dad like, Jason woop slop.

Speaker 4 (01:24:25):
My dad was an old dude, and he yeah, and
I'm like, you know, stomach cramping, violently barfing, and he's like,
there's a light in the mood. Asian Jason bringing the
basin oop slop bringing them up. That's awesome.

Speaker 5 (01:24:41):
Yeah, good wow, good stuff. Time dude, dude, all right.

Speaker 7 (01:24:49):
How about some news this hour, which is brought to
you by Window Nation. Mostly sunny and very hot today
it's a high of ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:24:55):
Five, ninety five. It can't be more than a one
hundred and fourteen.

Speaker 7 (01:25:04):
No, all right, the days I'm springing forward and falling
back may be numbered.

Speaker 6 (01:25:11):
The House passed a bill yesterday to make daylight.

Speaker 7 (01:25:14):
Saving time permanent nationwide, and a bipartisan three hundred and
eight to one hundred and seventeen vote. The measure, called
the Sunshine Protection Act, would keep the country on the
time observed from March to November, sparing Americans the twice
yearly clock change. Those states could opt for standard time
if they set an exemption before the law takes effect.

Speaker 5 (01:25:37):
Okay, here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (01:25:40):
If you don't have daylight savings or it's permanent daylight saving,
do you know what time the sun is going to
come up in the winter?

Speaker 8 (01:25:51):
No?

Speaker 5 (01:25:51):
Idea nine to sixteen earn.

Speaker 4 (01:25:58):
Yeah, nine am basically is when the sun will rise
nine two am in the in the dead of winter,
that is.

Speaker 5 (01:26:06):
No, that'll be in the summer. Okay, does that even
make sense?

Speaker 12 (01:26:10):
No?

Speaker 7 (01:26:10):
No, wait, March to November. So what we're on the
time March to November? What time does the sun come up?

Speaker 8 (01:26:19):
Ish?

Speaker 4 (01:26:20):
Like well, like seven, it's up, but it's technically all
the way up at eight, but it starts coming up soup,
but like it would be a full hour later like
nine am sunrise is like think of it, like kids
going to school classes started, the sun's not all the
way up yet. People at their jobs, like we're used
to that coming in as early as we are, but

(01:26:41):
like if everybody has to do that, I don't know,
just so the sun can stay out during the winter
until six point twenty, Like what is the difference for that?

Speaker 5 (01:26:52):
I would I think it's a bad idea.

Speaker 6 (01:26:54):
I want the sun earlier.

Speaker 5 (01:26:56):
Not well, I in the winter, you're not going out
and about anyways?

Speaker 6 (01:27:00):
Yeah, I guess not.

Speaker 5 (01:27:02):
I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:27:02):
I think there's something good to the early when it
gets dark early, like get built, character, get inside, go home.

Speaker 11 (01:27:11):
Now if when you do the first when it starts
getting dark early, it does like set off a time
or in my brain like I get get home, it
does what am I doing out?

Speaker 1 (01:27:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:27:22):
So here's what it is.

Speaker 4 (01:27:24):
The current system is summer solstice six sixteen am sunrise,
winter solstice eight O two sunrise sunset nine sixteen for
summer solstice sunset five twenty three.

Speaker 5 (01:27:38):
For winter solstice solstice, so five twenty three.

Speaker 4 (01:27:41):
Okay. If you have year round daylight savings time, the
sunrise in the summer will be six sixteen am, it'll
set at nine sixteen pm. In the winter it won't
rise until nine o two am and it will set
at six twenty three. If you have year round and time,
the summer solstice months will be five sixteen am sunrise,

(01:28:09):
which is really early, eight sixteen pm sunset, and the
winter will be eight O two a m sunrise five
twenty three pm sunset. I think the current system is
the best one six sixteen am to nine sixteen pm
in the summer, eight O two am to five twenty

(01:28:31):
three pm in the winter, eight O two.

Speaker 5 (01:28:36):
To carry the one.

Speaker 11 (01:28:39):
Barf all right, I'm good with the system we have
in place now because I fear that I'm incapable of changing.

Speaker 4 (01:28:49):
At all.

Speaker 5 (01:28:50):
Well, there's that I fear change.

Speaker 6 (01:28:52):
I just don't want to change the way I do anything.

Speaker 7 (01:28:55):
I'm also curious what the impact is on your circadian
rhythm in terms of observing the sun with your eyes
in the morning and becoming mole people.

Speaker 4 (01:29:06):
Basically, yeah, yeah, Hey, look, our lawmakers haven't done us
wrong yet, so let's just put our faith in them.

Speaker 6 (01:29:15):
Nailed it.

Speaker 7 (01:29:16):
A huge new survey asked the question how many group
chats are you in? The most popular answer was zero.
Thirty five percent of people have no group chats. I'm jealous.
What a peaceful life after that? It seems like two
to three group chats is the sweet spot. But here
are the best stats. One percent have over twenty group chats,

(01:29:40):
seven percent don't even know how many they're in. And
what do you do when your group chat explodes with
hundreds of unread messages all of a sudden. Twenty eight
percent say they read every single one, Twenty seven percent
say they just skim them to get the general idea,
seven percent ignore the whole thing, and and one percent

(01:30:01):
ask ai to summarize them for it.

Speaker 5 (01:30:06):
Yeah, we shouldn't be doing that.

Speaker 11 (01:30:07):
You shouldn't ask ay I to summarize because you need
to know how to clap back at people who are
trashing you in the group chat.

Speaker 6 (01:30:13):
It's true, Yeah, that's true. Family group chats are tough.

Speaker 7 (01:30:16):
Because if you leave a family group chat, they know
and then it's another big deal.

Speaker 4 (01:30:24):
So I'm on several variations of family group chats. So
you're in some secret family group chats. Yes, you're in
like a brain trust group chat. But the main one
with my mom, who's the only living parent and her kids,
her six kids. I don't choose to interact with that
one very much because my mom will send a few

(01:30:47):
memes a day, and you know, everyone from out of
town will be like hitting love and I put the
heart emoji on it and everything. Like the other day
she sent a meme about love and it was from
the the writer, the poet Roomy, and you know, on the.

Speaker 5 (01:31:04):
Side, I said to my sister, I'm like, this is
about romantic love.

Speaker 4 (01:31:07):
That's what he wrote about, not like mom, and like
she's just she's online too much and everyone's like, oh, Mom,
that's so sweet.

Speaker 5 (01:31:13):
I'm like, that's about humpin'.

Speaker 4 (01:31:15):
Like that is not for kids. That's not what it's
supposed to be. This is why I don't because Randy
ruins everything. I don't say anything right, and then I
catch flak from some of the other siblings, like, man,
you don't say anything like, it's just like you don't
want to. Mom's trying.

Speaker 5 (01:31:28):
Yeah, And I'm like, well, guess what a hole's who
shows up for mom?

Speaker 8 (01:31:32):
Me?

Speaker 5 (01:31:32):
I'm the guy who goes there.

Speaker 4 (01:31:34):
I'm actually the guy that visits with her and takes
her to the stuff while you're down in Florida or
Los Angeles or Chicago or New York or whatever.

Speaker 5 (01:31:41):
Like you guys don't hear, I'm boots on the ground.

Speaker 4 (01:31:43):
Yeah, you want to have this little parasocial relationship with
her through memes.

Speaker 5 (01:31:48):
Go right ahead. Yeah, I am muting the f out
of that stuff. Don't choose to engage. It's the memes
that really matter.

Speaker 4 (01:31:55):
Randy they are. But here's the thing, I think they
do matter more to my mom than me being there.
That's upset that I won't respond to that stuff. She
sends me stuff on the.

Speaker 5 (01:32:05):
Side, I just want to make sure everything's okay.

Speaker 4 (01:32:08):
I'm like, yeah, I just don't want to respond to
every Jesus meme you send, like I will be there
for brunch on Sunday. I'm the one picking you up
and I'm doing all the stuff. I didn't think we
needed to have this little back and forth.

Speaker 23 (01:32:20):
With whatever your favorite Facebook graphic is today this is
like this is my girl Causin or you know, just
like a larger picture of just sibling relationships to I
had this conversation with my mom yesterday where she.

Speaker 6 (01:32:33):
Was like, if I'm ever on life support, you know
she'll pull the plug. I know you won't, but she will.
So here's what I want you to do. You make
sure you know whether it should be done or not,
and you decide, but you make her pull the plug
so she has to think about it.

Speaker 4 (01:32:48):
Yeah, God, exactly. Now, everybody sit down, we're gonna watch
the end of million Dollar Baby.

Speaker 8 (01:33:00):
No.

Speaker 5 (01:33:00):
I am one hundred percent car. I have been there.

Speaker 4 (01:33:02):
I have been the one who's put up her husband's
family when he was done, they all stayed at my house.
I pulled the plug on him, literally, like I turned
off the death machine. Yeah, they're win and win the
wino and everyone's crying around the body.

Speaker 5 (01:33:15):
The nurse looks over at me and goes, just turn
it off, just turn it off. I'm like, no, I'm
not turning it off.

Speaker 9 (01:33:21):
Really.

Speaker 5 (01:33:21):
Oh, I swear to god. He checks out.

Speaker 4 (01:33:24):
His kids are like this, kids are really nice and
they are all like, you know, whimpering over their deceased father.

Speaker 5 (01:33:30):
My mom's in there with me. I'm the only one
of the kids, not one of the memes me.

Speaker 4 (01:33:35):
I'm there. And the nurse like leans over the table
while they're all crying and said, because it's like going oo.

Speaker 5 (01:33:47):
And she cause I'm next to it with my hands folded,
looking down somberly. She's like, just turn it off. I'm like, no,
I'm not turning it off. You have to turn it off.
It's gonna look like the one who could all the
black thing. You'll get out, you know. She's like, it's
not that hard.

Speaker 4 (01:34:03):
You just oh my god, you were the closest though.

Speaker 5 (01:34:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:34:08):
So, but I made her do it. The point is like,
this is more of an argument. It has nothing to
do with my mom. It has everything to do with
my siblings, where I'm like, oh oh mom, was oh
you love you love that one because he keeps responding
to all your memes. Remember when you made you feel
unwelcome when you went down there on Christmas because his
in laws were there and you were second banana to everything.

(01:34:30):
Remember that who took you to brunch? Mom, who got
you the mimosas. Yeah, so that's like I'm very sensitive
about that. So because I just don't think, like, hey,
my relationship with my mom does not depend on how
active I am in the group chat. But for the
people who are out of town, from my siblings who
are out of town, they invest a lot in that,
and they're like, man, you just don't even you don't

(01:34:53):
get involved in her. I'm like, that's because I talked
to her. I talked to all you guys separate too.
I don't need to weigh in on every one of these.
I mean, my one brother's just like, you know, he
just hits the emoji every time. He's just like it's
just easier that way.

Speaker 5 (01:35:07):
And I'm like, yeah, but that's nothing. That's not even
that I'm there, doesn't that matter. No, that's my mom.

Speaker 4 (01:35:12):
My mom would rather I liked all of her memes
then actually show up.

Speaker 6 (01:35:18):
I swear to God just wants to know you're in
on the Jesus part of it, right, It's.

Speaker 5 (01:35:23):
Not just Jesus, it's just like, you know, a love
of a mother for her children. You know a lot
of that stuff.

Speaker 11 (01:35:30):
Have you thought about sending anti memes in response, like
a picture of Trent Reznor, like your own personal Jesus,
I love your mom.

Speaker 8 (01:35:40):
No.

Speaker 5 (01:35:40):
But anytime I've done that, like joked around and then
like she doesn't know how to take it. She's she's
because she's trying. It's for her. She's eighty three, you
know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (01:35:50):
So she's really just trying to be like I wish
I could be with all my kids, you know, and
it's it's very sweet, but on the I just keep
saying it.

Speaker 5 (01:35:57):
I'm like, I'm actually with you. I'm I'm actually doing
the stuff.

Speaker 6 (01:36:01):
What if you started trolling it a little bit?

Speaker 4 (01:36:03):
I get it? And it was no, no, no.

Speaker 6 (01:36:05):
Every time you have a meal, you do like a
selfie with your food, be like, guys, look and just
see them, yeah, just see.

Speaker 7 (01:36:11):
If they like start giving love and like emojis like
yay yeah, and then if they don't, you can bitch
about it.

Speaker 4 (01:36:17):
Yeah. And it's the ones who do the least that
are the most active on the thread. And I'm like,
it's over compensation.

Speaker 5 (01:36:26):
Does nobody see this?

Speaker 4 (01:36:28):
Crazy? I know, And it's just me mad at my siblings.
That has nothing to do with my mom because I
talk to her all the time. I'm like, I just
don't need to do it on that thread.

Speaker 7 (01:36:39):
Yeah, there's a fourteen in my family like group Texte,
and four of those people are retired, and then two
or like work from home, and so I just get
enraged because people have time and it.

Speaker 5 (01:36:56):
Sets me off.

Speaker 4 (01:36:57):
Two is like when you're working and everybody's just just
lighten your phone up. I mean I have it on mute,
but like I can't see that I have a message
and not look at so the mute just stops.

Speaker 5 (01:37:08):
A ding from happening.

Speaker 11 (01:37:11):
Yeah, I'm in I have a small family, so we
don't have like a big family group chat, which is
good because if I were added to my aunt and
cousins group chat, I know I'd be in there, like
eleven thirty on a Friday, me send something out here.

Speaker 8 (01:37:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:37:26):
We just upgraded my daughter from like a little Gizmo watch,
which has like a ton of protection you can't really
text her without the app, to an Apple Watch. So
now she has the phone number, and I keep thinking,
I'm like, if one of you adds her to this
group chat.

Speaker 6 (01:37:43):
I'll kill you.

Speaker 4 (01:37:44):
Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 7 (01:37:48):
It can only take so many poop emojis in the day,
mostly sonny and very hot.

Speaker 6 (01:37:53):
It's the high of ninety five today.

Speaker 5 (01:37:54):
Yeah, I just want to make Claire.

Speaker 4 (01:37:56):
I was not being mad at my mom. It's my siblings.

Speaker 5 (01:37:58):
I'm like, they get away with me murder and just
by liking it.

Speaker 4 (01:38:02):
She's like, oh, isn't that sweet?

Speaker 5 (01:38:04):
I'm like, where the hell was he?

Speaker 2 (01:38:06):
Well?

Speaker 4 (01:38:06):
I needed to help? Would you had to take it
to the hospital? Where was he there?

Speaker 24 (01:38:11):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (01:38:11):
Where were the memes?

Speaker 8 (01:38:12):
Then?

Speaker 6 (01:38:13):
Who sent you home with leftovers and a belly?

Speaker 4 (01:38:16):
Fully?

Speaker 5 (01:38:18):
Remember Mother's Day? Who are you sitting with? Who was
down that showed up?

Speaker 4 (01:38:21):
It was Randy. That's right, you can have your memes.
I have the moms on.

Speaker 5 (01:38:28):
The way for you. Mike Pursuda, he's got your sports.

Speaker 4 (01:38:30):
Not much to talk about with the All Star Game,
but the World Cup yesterday was a was a doozy
and Spain defensively has just been a juggernaut and France umbape.

Speaker 5 (01:38:45):
Not he couldn't get it done.

Speaker 4 (01:38:48):
France is out and now it's Spain versus the winner
of England and Argentina today Messy and Harry Kane. Messy
Kane today at three o'clock. I'm on Argentine. I don't
want England to win. I hate I hate England. Me too, well,
we're Americans. We're supposed to hate England.

Speaker 5 (01:39:08):
Mike was giving me a bunch of Mike pushed back
a lot on this last week. If you have any
Irish India hate the English? What do you hate him?

Speaker 4 (01:39:15):
What do you mean?

Speaker 5 (01:39:16):
Why do way what you need a reason to hate England?

Speaker 26 (01:39:18):
Now?

Speaker 4 (01:39:19):
Yeah, all of a sudden, Yeah, well just ask any
of your Irish friends what they think about that.

Speaker 1 (01:39:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:39:27):
I have my one buddy, our dear friend, Declan down
at harpin Fiddle in his suicide pool he drew England.

Speaker 5 (01:39:35):
He was so like, oh my god. Yeah, and then
what's the payout?

Speaker 8 (01:39:40):
Right?

Speaker 4 (01:39:41):
So it's probably significant, So like there's that, Like you know,
I'm like, well, look, if you win, you can donate
it all to the IRA, all right.

Speaker 5 (01:39:50):
Mark Madden nine forty five, Steve Burn eight forty five.
If you've got a craving for a song that you
haven't heard in a while, Hey, Michelle, how about this one?

Speaker 9 (01:39:58):
Let Michelle know we all request Electric Lunch is coming
up later at noon on one oh two point five DVE.

Speaker 5 (01:40:08):
Live from the Donz Appliance in Studios.

Speaker 19 (01:40:10):
Going on sports, brought to you by Bridgeville Appliants. It
didn't exactly qualify as a Midsummer Classic. Last night in Philadelphia,
the All Star Game won by the American League four
to nothing. The National League held to three hits and
two walks while striking out fifteen times against eleven American

(01:40:31):
League pitchers. Cody Bellinger and the Yankees went one for
three with two RBI. He was your game, MVP. Not exactly,
Dave Parker in nineteen seventy nine.

Speaker 4 (01:40:43):
Ratings had to be terrible for this in Seattle, Jim
Rice all for three tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:40:49):
I guess Mike Lacos pops it up right side Parker,
Mark Austin.

Speaker 26 (01:40:57):
Hey, last it drops, and it's a two base hit,
and Rice is gonna.

Speaker 5 (01:41:02):
Try for three and he will not make it.

Speaker 26 (01:41:10):
I ain't Parker talking to each other out there now,
Markan and Parker.

Speaker 2 (01:41:16):
That's part of what we've told.

Speaker 26 (01:41:17):
You about the Bermuda triangle from second base to right
around that spot back out towards center field.

Speaker 5 (01:41:23):
But water recovery to show a tremendous throwing.

Speaker 26 (01:41:27):
Arm with a perfect one hopper to say to get Rice, wow, boy,
I'll tell you when you got an arm like that,
you can erase a lot of mistakes.

Speaker 2 (01:41:36):
When you have speed like him, you can erase a.

Speaker 5 (01:41:38):
Lot of mistakes.

Speaker 19 (01:41:40):
Yeah, that was Dave Parker throwing out Jim Rice at
third base in the seventh inning. But the Cobras, it
turned out, wasn't done showing off that arm just yet.

Speaker 13 (01:41:52):
Light drive right here.

Speaker 5 (01:41:53):
We may have a plan to play at big hop
here comes down? He's here's the troll?

Speaker 8 (01:41:57):
It is he up to?

Speaker 5 (01:42:00):
What a pay bitter my madus? Play my partner home?

Speaker 2 (01:42:05):
Maybe?

Speaker 4 (01:42:06):
What a play?

Speaker 5 (01:42:07):
What a trum my?

Speaker 26 (01:42:08):
Bed Parker the ten years to show why some people
consider him the greatest.

Speaker 13 (01:42:13):
Player of the game.

Speaker 19 (01:42:15):
That's what he was in the late seventies, the greatest
player in the game. Yeah, and Willie Stars was not
far off of that. Nationally won seven to six in
nineteen seventy nine, Parker was the MVP, and then Willie
Stargell went on to split the National League MVP award
with Keith Hernandez and then win the NLCS MVP and

(01:42:38):
the World Series MVP as the Pirates.

Speaker 5 (01:42:41):
That was their last World Series championship.

Speaker 11 (01:42:43):
Did you ever hear that thing about Dave Parker when
he was with the their like credit him with the
longest home run in history.

Speaker 4 (01:42:49):
Oh home run. Oh okay, I think you guess he'll
want to do something else.

Speaker 5 (01:42:52):
Go Brad.

Speaker 11 (01:42:55):
He hit a home run when he was playing for
the Charleston Charlie's something into a coal car out of
the outfield and that it traveled like two hundred and
ten miles.

Speaker 5 (01:43:05):
Seriously, Yeah, so that's that's hilarious.

Speaker 9 (01:43:09):
Home run.

Speaker 5 (01:43:10):
That's hilarious. Yeah, they try to play everybody.

Speaker 19 (01:43:15):
Now to Parker in that game, in addition to those
two throws, he started the game, he's still in the
game at right field.

Speaker 5 (01:43:20):
In the seventh and the eighth.

Speaker 19 (01:43:21):
Inning, he went one for three at the plate with
a walk and a sacrifice sacrifice fly RBI, so he
had five plate appearances.

Speaker 5 (01:43:32):
Enough time to do MVP like stuff.

Speaker 19 (01:43:34):
I get they want to play everybody, but I don't know,
it's just the All Star Games kind of run out
of juice to me.

Speaker 5 (01:43:43):
I don't know how they could possibly jush it up
at this point. You know, they got microphones on the players.

Speaker 4 (01:43:53):
It's just they're too valuable of an asset to their
respective franchises, and nobody wants I'm really going after it.

Speaker 5 (01:44:01):
Yeah, they don't.

Speaker 19 (01:44:02):
And that's the thing, you know, before it used to
be you were a starter and you played the majority
of the game, and then if you were a reserved
you might.

Speaker 5 (01:44:08):
Get in, you might not.

Speaker 19 (01:44:09):
Yeah, now nobody wants to go if they if they're
not going to play, The fans want to see their guys.

Speaker 2 (01:44:15):
I get.

Speaker 4 (01:44:15):
It's like bowl games. Yeah, bowl games that don't matter.
Like I'm gonna skip it.

Speaker 5 (01:44:20):
They should maybe just take a break.

Speaker 2 (01:44:22):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:44:23):
I think there's something important about celebrating the sport. I'm
not sure, you know, the exhibition could be anything other
than what it is, which is a disappointment, But I
think it would be a bigger disappointment to not have it,
because there's still once in a while going to be
like an O Tawny Trout thing where maybe though I

(01:44:46):
know that was in the World Baseball Classic, that's different.

Speaker 19 (01:44:48):
But you know what I'm saying, Well, and there is
other stuff besides the playing of the game. I can
remember the last time it was a PNC park. I
forget the exact year, but I was with the trip
then and one of my assignments was I hung out
on the Clementy Bridge and they were taking the players
in convertibles from the Renaissance Hotel over the bridge to

(01:45:11):
the stadium, and there were thousands and thousands of fans
on the bridge and on the route.

Speaker 5 (01:45:17):
It was really cool.

Speaker 4 (01:45:18):
That was fantastic, and I was there.

Speaker 19 (01:45:22):
Jeter was really playing it off parade, doing everything he
could to engage with as many people as he possibly could.
And it was a great hour and a half or
hover long that it took. So there is that kind
of stuff which you can't replicate anywhere else.

Speaker 4 (01:45:35):
What I would also say is that it might just
be the last night's game wasn't very good, and sometimes
you can create scenarios where it's a little more exciting.
Like Bryce Harper is miked up going against Cade Smith
who strikes him out with a nasty splitter, and you
can hear Bryce Harper he says, ah, sorry, guys, that
was disgusting.

Speaker 5 (01:45:58):
That's disgusting. I mean that's kind of cool.

Speaker 4 (01:46:04):
Like he wives just terribly at this splitter that drops
off the table and he's like, that was disgusting, guy. Sorry,
talking to the analysts that you know, that's pretty cool.

Speaker 5 (01:46:14):
Well, there was a moment also.

Speaker 19 (01:46:15):
I watched the first inning in a little bit after
and Dylan Cease was the starter for the American League,
and he was talking to the broadcast crew and John
Smoltz actually suggested a pitch at one point. I forget
what was too too or so, hey, try the slider.
Guy's like, oh well, Smoltsey says, so you know, here
we go.

Speaker 8 (01:46:34):
Like but some of that was.

Speaker 19 (01:46:36):
Awkward too, because it's hard, particularly for a catcher to
catch and talk at the same time. I'm not trying
to make fun of it. I mean, it's just they're
asking too much. I get if it's an outfielder or
somebody that's not doing something every pitch one pitch after another.

Speaker 5 (01:46:52):
What if there are only two outs per inning, be
quicker or you just featured three batters per in.

Speaker 8 (01:47:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 19 (01:47:01):
I don't have an answer for it. But it used
to be a huge deal and now it's a TV show.

Speaker 5 (01:47:07):
To the mic'd up point.

Speaker 11 (01:47:08):
They did that in the NHL All Star Game one
time and they were talking to Marty Turco who was
on the ice and he got scored on and he
was like, I kind of wish I wasn't talking to
you guys during that.

Speaker 5 (01:47:19):
He was like pissed.

Speaker 4 (01:47:20):
Yeah, I brought shame on my family. Rightly pissed. The
Turco family thread is going to really get ugly down. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:47:27):
I hopefully people enjoyed. It started closer to eight thirty
than eight o'clock. I don't know what time it ended.

Speaker 4 (01:47:33):

now the host of all five of those goddamn comedy jams,
Ladies and gentlemen, dear friend, Pittsburgh's own Steve Burnet, Hello, Hi,

(01:50:11):
good morning buddy. How are you Have you stayed away
from the parasite yet or do you already have it?

Speaker 8 (01:50:16):
You know, it's interesting when you get diarrhea then this
time do you get to blame the parasite? Or is it?
Like I think it's from Taco Bell, but I can't
be sure, so I don't know. I just I always
roll the dice. It's Arby's, it's Taco Bell. It's like,
let's eat like an eighth grader today and see what
can affect us.

Speaker 5 (01:50:34):
You know, it's so far, so good, good, that's good.

Speaker 4 (01:50:36):
You know what's funny is like Arby's just announced a
new sandwich this week that is roast beef smothered with
mac and cheese in the middle of it, and it's
on a hogy roll. So it's like Arby's roast beef
shove in a whole bunch of mac and cheese into
a toasted hogy roll. Eating that is about the safest
thing you can eat right now. Not a vegetable within

(01:50:59):
a mile of that thing.

Speaker 8 (01:51:02):
It's true, you know, even for Manny's, you know, for
as much as it can at least you've got coleslaw
on that. You know, Yeah, you got somewhat of a
vegetable there. But yeah, Arby's is a it's always look
any of those things, there's a roll of the dice.

Speaker 2 (01:51:15):
I think that the biggest.

Speaker 8 (01:51:17):
Dice roll in fast food by far is long John Sobers.
It is just deep food under a dollar. I don't know,
it's it's that or gas station sushi could be the
biggest roll of the dice. It's like, all right, do
you are you able to clear your calendar just in case?

Speaker 2 (01:51:39):
But go for it.

Speaker 4 (01:51:42):
Steve, the Goddamn Comedy Gym is back this Friday night,
and you put together another stellar lineup. For the few
remaining tickets that are left, people can get those at
the River's Casino Box office, but once again regale us
with this all star cast that you have thrown together.

Speaker 8 (01:51:58):
It's been a while since anybody's asked me to regale
them with anything, but I'm more than happy to Miguel,
the fine people at Pittsburgh and your listeners. Yes, the
fifty Annual Comedy Jam benefiting a wonderful night of comedy
music benefiting the Mario Lemux Foundation. Over the last four years,
we've raised over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, so
we're hoping to break our record.

Speaker 5 (01:52:18):
We're close to.

Speaker 8 (01:52:18):
Being sold out, so we have a few tickets that
released that are thirty four dollars now on the wings,
so people can get those at Riverscasino dot com.

Speaker 4 (01:52:29):
But it's a great show.

Speaker 8 (01:52:30):
It's comedians come out, we tell some stand up and
then we sing a song with a live band to
usually comedic results. This year we have Joe Gaddo, James
Murray from Practical Jokers, Joey Fatone from and Think, Jessica
Soda from Pushycat Dolls, myself, Gary Cannon, will host, Bill Crawford,
Lace Larrabee, Patrick Keene. We'll be doing stand up as well,

(01:52:51):
and we got some special guests that are coming through
this year, and yeah, it's all for an incredible cause
what the Lemieux Foundation does and how they've been not
only supportive in the within the community, but to you know,
especially Children's Hospital, et cetera, et cetera. Nancy Angels, the crew,
they've done just an incredible job. So it's it's truly

(01:53:12):
like a great honor to be tethered with them and
let them they they're giving us permission to do a
show like this to raise money for them. So it's
the funnest show of the year for me. It's always
the one I circle on the calendar and I have
an absolute blast and I hope everybody comes out and
has a great time.

Speaker 5 (01:53:30):
It's the killer lineup this year. Oh, it always is.

Speaker 4 (01:53:32):
It always is h And everybody always asks me about
this show because they have such a it's such a
unique time.

Speaker 5 (01:53:40):
They're always like, oh, when is that?

Speaker 8 (01:53:41):
What is it?

Speaker 4 (01:53:42):
Because it's not your standard comedy show. It's like a
party that the whole crowd is involved in.

Speaker 1 (01:53:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:53:48):
Yeah, I mean it's very interactive, especially with Gary Cannon thing.
So Gary and I hosted it last year. We had
so much fun. It was such a blast that we
decided to team up again and do it this year.
But it literally is it's the most nervous I get
doing a show. And after thirty years of doing stand up,
it's hard to.

Speaker 4 (01:54:05):
Get nervous doing a show.

Speaker 8 (01:54:06):
But this is one where outside your comfort level, you're
singing songs you have no right to sing. And this
year I'm going to take it up a notch and
try to do Man in the Mirror with Gary, So,
oh my god, we'll see how that goes. That will
be special.

Speaker 4 (01:54:23):
I want to point out Gary Cannon was taking off
his shirt long before Burt Kreischer was. He was like
the original just take off your shirt and walk around
the south Side kind of guy.

Speaker 8 (01:54:33):
Yeah, and if you can imagine it getting worse, which
is odd, it's it's as though the guy didn't do
a push up since the Presidential Fitness.

Speaker 5 (01:54:42):
Challenge I think eleventh grade, So the one with Gerald Ford.

Speaker 8 (01:54:51):
Yes, Garry, I believe he's approaching his seventies.

Speaker 5 (01:54:54):
Yes, that's right, yeah, all tracks. Yeah. Now, Steve, have
you been watching the World Up?

Speaker 2 (01:55:02):
I've not.

Speaker 4 (01:55:03):
Oh my god, I can't believe you've not taken the
opportunity to get involved in something that pits the world
against against each other.

Speaker 8 (01:55:12):
No, no, no, usually that's that's Donald Trump. But I've
not necessarily watched. Did something spectacular happen recently?

Speaker 23 (01:55:21):
Well?

Speaker 4 (01:55:21):
No, I was thinking you would probably be rooting for
you know, after South Korea got ousted, that it would
have been you would have really, what's all?

Speaker 8 (01:55:33):
What's what's the top three Asians get out?

Speaker 5 (01:55:35):
I'm like, I'm out, I'm out.

Speaker 4 (01:55:38):
But the England victory song is Oasis Wonderwall. So I
thought maybe you'd be excited about that for for no
other reason, maybe be rooting for England today in the
semi final against Argentina.

Speaker 8 (01:55:53):
I think it's like when a twin gets late, the
other twin knows and just smiles. I think that's how
I feel about Wonderwall. Anytime anybody and over over twelve
people sing it, somewhere, there's a glint in my eyes.

Speaker 5 (01:56:05):
Yeah. So absolutely, yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:56:06):
But they have a new documentary coming out September eleventh
that I'm very excited about. So that'll that'll go too,
and I'll bring my kids with me and they'll go, Daddy,
why are you crying again? And that's what happens, That's
what they do to me. But no, in all sincerity,
I've been I've been off the grid, and Pittsburgh's actually

(01:56:27):
my last show doing stand up comedy. As you guys know,
I've been doing stand up for you know, God knows,
you know, thirty decades, three decades now, and and other
than when Sullivan's Son was taping, I was still doing
stand up on the weekends and then I go four
so it's always doing stand up. But this is the
first time since I started in ninety seven where I'm

(01:56:48):
I'm taking some like three three to four months off
doing stand up because I'm actually moved to Saint Louis
and I'm going to direct the film that I wrote
about cal Tech Caltech basketball team called The Streak. So yeah,
I think of a yeah, yeah, I couldn't think of
a better, better place to do my last show for

(01:57:10):
quite some time at Pittsburgh. So I'm literally doing it,
and then I'm jumping right into pre production. I'm here
for soft prep right now. But the movie is called
The Streak, and that's why the Asian teams love so
I But but the film is a true story about
cal Tech's basketball team, cal Tech the MIT the West

(01:57:32):
Coast and they have a basketball team, and they possess
the longest losing streak in college basketball history thirty years,
not a win in three D and ten conference games,
they don't win a single time. So a new coach
comes in, takes over the program, and his.

Speaker 5 (01:57:49):
Whole goal is to get a bunch of Asians and.

Speaker 8 (01:57:52):
Indians and whites and black kids to just win a
single game. So it's obviously very comedic in nature. At
Helm's going to play the coach. I'm going to direct,
and we're here casting it right now and scouting and
getting it all situated. So it's a it's a it'll
be announced soon. Nothing's been announced yet. Usually these things

(01:58:12):
are announced on deadline, but uh, this will probably be
announced the.

Speaker 4 (01:58:16):
Next two or three weeks.

Speaker 8 (01:58:18):
I'm back home and telling you guys about it, So
it's gonna be It's gonna be pretty cool. It's like
a ten million dollar budget, whoa close to eleven, So
it's a it's a pretty big film.

Speaker 4 (01:58:26):
Yeah, it'll be fun. Well, congrats on that, and I
predict within two weeks you'll be doing stand up at
the Funny Bone in Saint Louis with Greg Warren.

Speaker 5 (01:58:32):
But that's you know.

Speaker 8 (01:58:35):
We've actually talked. Yeah, and you're not far off.

Speaker 2 (01:58:38):
I've been.

Speaker 8 (01:58:38):
I've been talking to Healingum about doing uh Sunday, and
I chose just to keep fresh because stand up, as
you know, is a lot like running. The minute you stop,
you kind of lose, you get so I don't want
to get any russ.

Speaker 4 (01:58:48):
So yeah, it's gonna be darn fun.

Speaker 5 (01:58:50):
Steve Byrne.

Speaker 4 (01:58:51):
The Goddamn Comedy Jam, fifth Annual Goddamn Comedy Jam, folks.
It's almost sold out, so don't delay getting your tickets.
This benefits of Marie Lemu Foundation, as it does every year.
It's this Friday at Rivers Casino. Get your tickets at
the River's Casino box office. Steven, congrats on that news
about directing that flick about cal Tech. I had no
idea and I'm thrilled for you, buddy. Oh, thank you

(01:59:11):
so much.

Speaker 8 (01:59:12):
Yet it's I mean, you know, I think anytime somebody
goes to your IMDb or looks at these things, it's like,
you know, everybody sees the yeses, right, Like Sullivan's son
was a yes. Opening act was yes, but you don't
see the nose. And this this film, it's spent six
years in the making, and it's just it's I'm just
so glad it's it's being made, and we're all so

(01:59:32):
excited about it. It's it's truly a really fun inspiring
underdog sports comedy with a with a bunch of nerds,
and it's so funny even when you're auditioning these kids.
You're auditioning kids that you know, one of the one
of the producers like, how about this guy, He's good looking.
I'm like, yeah, that's great. I'm not making and sync.

(01:59:55):
We're creating the big bank carry guys, you know, you know,
we're casting these nerds and and someone them were like, yeah,
I don't really play basketball. It's I'm like, the good
news is none of them do. Yeah, So you don't
have to be great. You don't even have to be good,
you know. So this is the one sports film where
the kids aren't like actually athletics, So it's kind of

(02:00:18):
like the opposite of her sports school.

Speaker 4 (02:00:19):
You were soon leave it to Steve Byrne to go
from host of a disgraced international beauty pageant to direct her.

Speaker 8 (02:00:30):
That's right, Yeah, I will not be asked to do
that anytime again.

Speaker 4 (02:00:35):
Maybe you can hide on one of those those those
women that the Mexican called ugly. Wasn't there a Mexican
guy that called them one of the contestants ugly or something?

Speaker 8 (02:00:46):
Wasn't that Oh he did more than yeah, he called
her dumb head.

Speaker 5 (02:00:49):
She wasn't Yeah, she was ugly.

Speaker 8 (02:00:51):
It was absolutely like and again like to your point,
like he called her all this stuff. The day after
I was announced as the host for the next day,
I wake up to all these messages, You're a jerk,
You're this, You're that, You're racist, You're you're racist, You're
racist against Latinas. And then I to clarify, I'm like,

(02:01:11):
I'm not racist. If anybody's racist, it's you, guys, because
it was the other agent. Dude.

Speaker 4 (02:01:21):
Uh Steve Byrne this weekend here in Pittsburgh, and Buddy,
I know these thickets are gonna fly off the shelf.

Speaker 5 (02:01:28):
But looking forward to seeing you soon.

Speaker 8 (02:01:30):
Thank you so much, Randy, thank you Abby, Thanks for
the crew, everybody, thanks again for having.

in order to know that it is, it's like a

Speaker 7 (02:06:17):
To you by Better Call Si, mostly Sonny Very Hot
Today and I of ninety five. A growing scam is
using Apple's FaceTime app to drain people's bank accounts. Fraudsters
pose as bank representatives and trick victims into handing over
their account information. It usually starts with a text about
supposed activity on a bank or a credit card, asking

(02:06:39):
the person to call a number, or with a direct
call claiming that they need additional verification. The scammer then
switches to a FaceTime video call and gets the victim
to share their screen while logging into online banking, and
so that lets the crook watch in real time is passwords,
account numbers, and one time security codes appear. Apple says

(02:07:00):
that scammers target FaceTime because people trust it as a
secure app. Experts warn against ever sharing your screen with
an unexpected caller, note that urgency is a red flag,
and advised contacting your bank using the number on the
back of your card.

Speaker 4 (02:07:18):
I lost my card last week and I totally forgot
to call it in oops, because I just assume it's
like in a pair of shorts somewhere, And then I
forgot about it because I never use it. I just
used the tap on my phone for everything. And now
it's just dawning on me. I should check to see.

Speaker 6 (02:07:37):
If there's been a new buttresses.

Speaker 5 (02:07:39):
Yeah, it's weird activity. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, with the
FaceTime stuff.

Speaker 11 (02:07:44):
I remember ten years ago someone took a picture of
Mark Zuckerberg or something like with his laptop out and
he had his cameras covered.

Speaker 5 (02:07:52):
Oh, yeah, that's right, and I remember thinking, oh, that's
not good.

Speaker 4 (02:07:56):
Well, also the difference between but he is going to
be looking at and potential interlopers into the information that
might be presented in front of him, versus like us.

Speaker 5 (02:08:11):
I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (02:08:12):
I know that the CIA can turn on the camera
on your laptop whenever they want and everything, because everyone
tells me that. But Zuckerberg that's just probably industry smart, right,
because people are trying to steal secrets in Silicon Valley.

Speaker 8 (02:08:30):
Right. Yeah.

Speaker 11 (02:08:30):
Meanwhile, he's like looking at your bank account. He's like
Randy Bauma Okay, yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:08:36):
Yeah, right.

Speaker 7 (02:08:39):
Billy Joel has a strong opinion about older artists who
continue to release music past their prime. As you know,
he quit writing songs after he released his twelfth album,
River of Dreams in nineteen ninety three, which I thought
he had one other new one that we had in
the last couple of years.

Speaker 5 (02:08:57):
He did a classical record.

Speaker 6 (02:08:59):
He did a classical record, but he had.

Speaker 7 (02:09:00):
Another single, Oh that was a good song too, So
you technically, maybe he didn't write an album, but it's
not like he's not writing.

Speaker 6 (02:09:08):
So I don't know how fair this is, but.

Speaker 4 (02:09:10):
I mean, yeah, I don't know how much you can
say he's writing though, Yeah, know what I mean.

Speaker 7 (02:09:16):
It said in the article, quote, I've heard artists who
keep putting out records and they dilute their legacy. Maybe
they're not as good as they used to be, or
they're not as motivated as they were, but it ends
up trailing off. Billy says that he doesn't want to
go out like that and have his music played simply
for being who he is.

Speaker 5 (02:09:36):
Quote.

Speaker 7 (02:09:36):
I wanted it to be good, and I recognized that
I didn't have the same motivation that I used to,
so I said stop. He didn't call it any particular artists,
but there are quite a few living legends who have
recently released new music. That includes The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney,
Deep Purple, and even Madonna.

Speaker 4 (02:09:55):
Do you think that people's songwriting ability win as their
belly gets full literally and figuratively as they get older,
or is it that it's just coming from the perspective
of an old person and it doesn't feel cool and
it doesn't feel relevant like it did when you know

(02:10:18):
Paul McCartney was a young person writing all of those
brilliant songs. You hear them differently. If a young Paul
McCartney were to have sung the last single he released,
would it be received as one of the classics of
the Beatles?

Speaker 6 (02:10:33):
Cannon, I don't think that.

Speaker 7 (02:10:37):
I think that there is a sense of urgency. There's
a lot of pressure, there's a lot of life experience
that happens very early in your life and even midlife.
And if you do get to a point where as
we hear often that as we naturally age, that things

(02:10:58):
start to maybe bother you a little less. You have
less to fight against or set like you know what
I mean, Like you're not really up against as much.

Speaker 6 (02:11:08):
And it does.

Speaker 7 (02:11:11):
That's not a perspective that a younger person would understand
because you're fighting through your life at that time. So
if I'm hearing like a Paul McCartney song and he's
just like this is on the bottom.

Speaker 6 (02:11:23):
I'm sorry, I can't buy hay House, Like, what are
you talking about?

Speaker 5 (02:11:27):
This next song is about maxing out your rough contributions? Yeah,
I always wonder that. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (02:11:40):
I mean, I think some artists have done some of
their best songwriting late in life. But it's perspective matters, right, it.

Speaker 7 (02:11:47):
Does you have to be able to tap into something yeah. Yeah,
So like if you're let's say you were an aging artist,
but you were able to tap into what it is
like to have, you know, maybe more existential questions on
the mind, and you have a really deep way of
connecting with somebody that's different than trying to just kind

(02:12:07):
of keep the catalog going and writing a song to
write a song. The reality too, is that I think
a lot of these artists are tapping into younger artists
to help them put out some material.

Speaker 4 (02:12:20):
The crazy thing is there have been a lot of
artists who have put out records that just went un
heralded late in their career that I thought have been great.
Peter Wolf from Jay Giles put out a couple of
soul records that are just amazing. Steve Winwood has two
in particular solo records. A Different Light is the best

(02:12:40):
of the bunch, and nobody paid attention to him. There's
a couple of covers on there and stuff, but like
it sounds amazing that the song selection is incredible, his
performance is great. You know, it's twenty years old at
this point, by the way, but nobody paid attention to it. Right,
And Warren Zevon's last record as he's dying, I mean
nothing more poignant than that. The Wind is one of
the most you know, elegant recordings of all time, but

(02:13:04):
a twenty two year old doesn't want to listen to
that stuff.

Speaker 5 (02:13:07):
So I think it's just all relative.

Speaker 4 (02:13:09):
The one kind of music that you can just keep doing,
and the older you get it seems to be get
better and people accept it.

Speaker 5 (02:13:16):
Is Americana stuff.

Speaker 4 (02:13:17):
Like John Prime put out records right so the end,
and everybody's like everything he did was gold, you know,
like you know, duh, I'm gonna you know, and his
voice is gone, you know, and I'm gonna smoke cigarette.
It is nive miles long and all that, and he's
just doing all these happy old man songs. That's kind
of a reductive way to say it, but like that
was his perspective because he's, you know, he was old

(02:13:39):
and he's kind of cashing out. But John Hyatt the
same way. Lyle love it, like those records, all the
fan base days with them, Will Go, Will Go, the
ultimate dad rock band.

Speaker 5 (02:13:49):
They're in Wheeling Tonight. Oh yeah, big show down and Wheeling.

Speaker 4 (02:13:54):
That's another man who's I think they keep putting out
records that sound good even though they don't pop beyond
under their their fan base, you know. But when you're
Paul McCartney or you're the Rolling Stones, or you're you
know the Who, and if you try to put out
new singles when you're eighty, your goal is not to.

Speaker 5 (02:14:11):
Appeal to a niche audience.

Speaker 4 (02:14:13):
You're like, I want to be number one again, and
it just doesn't really happen because younger people don't really care.

Speaker 5 (02:14:21):
And it makes sense, by the way.

Speaker 4 (02:14:22):
Mick Jagger is the latest guest on Conan O'Brian's podcast
this week, and it is fascinating and they talk at
one point about John Lennon. Well, they talk a lot
about John Lennon because Mick was pretty close to them,
and he talks about David Bowie and how he's like, well,
Bowie had all these different there was different bowiees. You know,

(02:14:43):
he nicked from me, from Tom to Tom. You know
Jeane Janey's very stonesy and I'm like, you nick that
from me and he's like, oh yeah, no, it's an omahage,
you know. So it's like funny to hear him talking
about like his relationship with Bowie and John Lennon, because
he and John Lennon really got along very well because
they were very similar and if you watch the Rolling
Stones Rock and Roll Circus, you can see the rapport

(02:15:04):
they have with each other before he goes out and
plays Your Blues with the Dirty Mac. But they reference
something Conan and Mick in this conversation that I kind
of forgot about, and it's in the Pennybaker documentary of
Dylan Don't Look Back. And there's a scene in the
documentary where John Lennon is in the back of a

(02:15:27):
limo with Bob Dylan, and in the movie it only
lacks a very short clip. Since then, the full unedited
twenty minute car ride with John Lennon and Bob Dylan
has been released and it is like in the morning

(02:15:51):
after they were up all night. Oh and John Lennon
is comporting himself very well, got his shades on, and
John sounds wonderful though he's very elegant, and he's smoking cigarettes.

Speaker 29 (02:16:05):
Dylan is destroyed, wasted, And you can look this up
because after they referenced it in the podcast, I watched
it last night and I could not believe that I
was just watching this conversation between an obviously just wasted
Bob Dylan smoking.

Speaker 4 (02:16:23):
Cigarettes with his Ray bands on in the back of
a limo, saying tons of stupid stuff.

Speaker 5 (02:16:27):
And John Lennon, who's kept it all together.

Speaker 4 (02:16:30):
I don't know what's a degree of partying he was into,
but he's clearly like he's babysitting Bob or Bobby sitting
like and Bob Dale's kind of annoyingly drunk or stoned
or whatever, and he's like say, slur his words and says,
I play so a few times.

Speaker 5 (02:16:50):
Remember he said, he said, we said John's keep it together, Bobby.
It's great. Yeah that whether he goes, he's like tried
to get and say it again.

Speaker 4 (02:17:01):
Talk about Perry maguire and at one point they talk
about the mamas and the papas, and he's like, he's
like telling me about the mama's and the papas, Bob
and Dylan's like, you know, you just want to know
about the fat chick, right, and.

Speaker 5 (02:17:16):
He's like, everybody wants to know about the big chick. Man,
it's i' here. You don't want mama's in there. They stink, man,
They're no good.

Speaker 4 (02:17:29):
And you're just like, oh, I bet Dylan Flake saw
all that, and he's like, yeah, destroy all that footage.

Speaker 5 (02:17:35):
Yeah, but the filmmaker did not. It's you can look
it up on YouTube. It's crazy. Wow, it is so bizarre.

Speaker 4 (02:17:43):
It's so voyeuristic because he's too fed up to put
his guard up.

Speaker 6 (02:17:52):
Yeah, like he well, is he is?

Speaker 8 (02:17:53):
He in that car?

Speaker 6 (02:17:55):
Is he currently messed up? Or is this hangover?

Speaker 8 (02:17:59):
He is?

Speaker 6 (02:18:01):
He is currently?

Speaker 5 (02:18:02):
He's just god, he is wasted. I saw a still image.

Speaker 11 (02:18:08):
From this, and I'd meant to watch the whole thing,
but the still image of me to believe that he
was hungover. Okay, but that's that's totally different than what
you're describing, and you've seen it. So yeah, if you
if you can't keep it together enough to not comment
on Mama Gass, you probably.

Speaker 4 (02:18:24):
I mean, it's our hammer, like, let me see, I'm
gonna okay, this is this is what he sounds like,
and I'm watching.

Speaker 17 (02:18:34):
He says, He says, do you remember what you said
to me those tapes?

Speaker 2 (02:18:40):
What I played those tapes.

Speaker 17 (02:18:45):
I'll say it's I think I just.

Speaker 20 (02:18:50):
Remember you said to me, I pleased this song and
you said something about this gotta being I didn't realize
at the time Robbie to he said, it's gotta be
publishing company.

Speaker 4 (02:19:03):
What's the name of it?

Speaker 5 (02:19:05):
What's your you know your song publishing company?

Speaker 10 (02:19:08):
All the songish?

Speaker 8 (02:19:09):
Yeah? What do you?

Speaker 5 (02:19:10):
James?

Speaker 8 (02:19:11):
No? No? Is it?

Speaker 17 (02:19:12):
Then?

Speaker 4 (02:19:14):
James? That was the name I heard Knowlden songs?

Speaker 9 (02:19:19):
Right? That was it?

Speaker 5 (02:19:20):
Right right right in what I should what's Northern song?
And then I was never told. Man, I had to
go out and find out.

Speaker 17 (02:19:31):
Didn't we tell this?

Speaker 30 (02:19:32):
No, man, you wouldn't tell me. He says, that would
be songs and you know, so you laughed and Paul
McCart andy looked the other way and talking.

Speaker 13 (02:19:42):
About looked at.

Speaker 17 (02:19:45):
His face.

Speaker 4 (02:19:47):
Rob Roy left in the room and they killed and said, hey, bommy,
if you had this one, it's so bizarre.

Speaker 5 (02:19:54):
What the hell the whole conversation like that? It's insane.

Speaker 6 (02:19:59):
I would want to punch him in the face.

Speaker 4 (02:20:02):
He is babysitting a drunk friend in a way where
it's like not like if the cameras weren't there, he
probably would have been like it, take one of these bobs.

Speaker 5 (02:20:10):
This will knock you out. Yeah, but it's from nineteen
sixty six.

Speaker 4 (02:20:15):
You can look it up.

Speaker 5 (02:20:15):
And I know that Dylan heads already know about that.

Speaker 4 (02:20:17):
But I did not know about that full footage eighteen
minutes and twenty nine seconds of the two of them
wasted in the back of a limo.

Speaker 11 (02:20:27):
When you think, like Dylan, you're too cool to be
that wasted, you know, You're yeah, You're no, You're like
the coolest guy ever.

Speaker 5 (02:20:37):
You can't get that drunk and.

Speaker 4 (02:20:38):
Okay, But perfect example of what we were saying earlier
of a guy who later in his career put out
records that were relevant. He was almost I mean he
was in his mid sixties and he put out Grammy
winning records. Time out of Mind's amazing, you know, like
there was two records back to back there that were
just incredible.

Speaker 5 (02:20:58):
So it happens. It's just rare, very rare that it
matters outside of like the niche.

Speaker 6 (02:21:05):
Yeah, I think you make a great point. It happens really.

Speaker 7 (02:21:10):
Well in Americana country music, like it just works better
because it's constant storytelling.

Speaker 6 (02:21:18):
You're always storytelling.

Speaker 7 (02:21:20):
In rock, I think it's very difficult because you're still
trying to after what you had originally in that energy
and again the pressure and the drive just might not
be the same.

Speaker 4 (02:21:34):
Agreed.

Speaker 6 (02:21:35):
Mostly sunny, very hot.

Speaker 5 (02:21:36):
I have ninety five Mark Madden coming up nine to
forty five WHI.

Speaker 9 (02:21:39):
Chad Tyson on DV is shifting gears all afternoon, First Victory.
There's a Workforce commercial free rock blocks, then there's Sports
Updigs and tops by. There's a reloaded cut from the
DV Morning Show in the afternoons in the car with
Tyson on DV from the Don's Appliances Studios where Pittsburgh

(02:22:02):
shops for appliances.

Speaker 5 (02:22:04):
This is w DV Pittsburgh Our iHeart Radio Music Festival
presented by Capitol One. Who's coming Back to the Lost Figures?

Speaker 9 (02:22:13):
September eighteen, nineteen thirteen, Mobile arena streaming live.

Speaker 4 (02:22:17):
Mike Pursuda has got your sports right now on the
DV Morning Show, Michae, what's going on?

Speaker 5 (02:22:21):
Sports is not brought to you by Bridgeal Appliance.

Speaker 19 (02:22:23):
Before we get there to your previous conversation regarding the
writing of songs and does it get better or worse?

Speaker 4 (02:22:31):
Oh jeez, I forgot to say Springsteen.

Speaker 19 (02:22:34):
I can just tell you that Bruce Springsteen can do
it for another fifty years and he is never going
to write another song as good as Born to Run
or Thunderbroke again.

Speaker 4 (02:22:45):
So you're saying, all right, he peaked early efect, well,
hold on, hold on. Though the Rising might be his
most important record might be, but it's not Born to
Run or thunder Road. There's five songs on there that
are all timers. My City of Ruins is one of
the most poignantly timed released songs ever.

Speaker 19 (02:23:09):
Glad you said released and not written because it wasn't
written about what everybody I know.

Speaker 5 (02:23:14):
Yeah, but it doesn't matter.

Speaker 19 (02:23:15):
Second most misinterpreted song in Springsteen's vast library.

Speaker 4 (02:23:19):
I don't know if it's a second, because there's another
one outside of Born to Run that I was just
reading about.

Speaker 5 (02:23:26):
I'm talking about Born in the USA, Born in the USA.

Speaker 4 (02:23:29):
I'm sorry. There's another one besides Born in the USA
that people have misinterpreted, and I can't recall what that
is at the moment, but at any rate.

Speaker 19 (02:23:37):
No, I just think when in anything you hit a
certain level, you know, Woodward Bernstein kept reporting after they
brought Dixon.

Speaker 5 (02:23:45):
Now they haven't done that again, I mean.

Speaker 4 (02:23:50):
No, Yeah, Seymour Hirsch did a lot of good stuff,
you know, into his seventies. It's not art in journal
is art and crafts are two different things.

Speaker 19 (02:23:59):
Yeah, you're right, but I just I mean, sometimes you're
inspired to sculpt the statue with David.

Speaker 5 (02:24:06):
And then you're not.

Speaker 4 (02:24:07):
You know.

Speaker 5 (02:24:08):
Yeah, But I don't know how much age has to
do with it, is my point.

Speaker 19 (02:24:12):
Like, No, I just think everybody peaks. There's I think
people peak. You don't do your best once and then
anything else is not your best.

Speaker 5 (02:24:20):
But there are people who will strive for itever forever.

Speaker 4 (02:24:22):
It's the desperation to make it that I think drives
people to get there, that that's the necessary fuel. But
then once they do and they have the full belly,
it's a little harder to be like do I want
to try to figure out the rest of this song today?

Speaker 5 (02:24:40):
Or do I want to go out on the boat?
Do I want to be great because I have to
or just for greatness sake?

Speaker 2 (02:24:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:24:48):
And I think Billy Joel is the you know, the
prime example of that, where he's just like, I could
just get drunk with my friends all the time. I
don't have to do any of this stuff that's really hard,
and I could still sell out the guard playing all
this old stuff. He really did have the greatest setup
with that. That was such a brilliant move. I hope
he returns to form from whatever that neurological issue was

(02:25:10):
that he had. But uh, you know, there's there's The
Stones put out a couple of great records when they
were old. They'll never have the impact the Blues one
was it Black and Blue? That was awesome, And I
thought Hackney Diamonds was pretty good. I haven't listened to
anything from the new one. But they just can't have
the cultural impact of the things that people did during

(02:25:32):
the foundational years of rock and roll and classic rock.

Speaker 5 (02:25:36):
Agreed, you know?

Speaker 4 (02:25:37):
Agreed? Oh no, I think R and B artists, scan,
I think soul artists s Can you know Aretha was
putting out good stuff right till the end.

Speaker 11 (02:25:49):
What did you think of when they re released Excel
in main Street and they released like the unreleased track
them from Turner and all that was in it plundermine soul?

Speaker 5 (02:25:59):
Yeah, what did you think about that? Unnecessary?

Speaker 11 (02:26:02):
But could you see it through the lens of the
period of like nineteen seventy two or whatever.

Speaker 5 (02:26:08):
It all sounded like that to me. I mean, I
liked the I like the original sound of the recording.

Speaker 4 (02:26:13):
Sometimes I think when they clean things up that it's
like a picture that is taken with film the in
the seventies and then they digitize it and like, oh, look,
you can see so much better. It's like, yeah, but
now that I can see so much better, it lost
some of the mystery that lend itself to why that

(02:26:36):
was such a compelling image.

Speaker 5 (02:26:39):
And I feel the same way about recordings.

Speaker 4 (02:26:41):
It's why Like I think some people are way into
the mono recordings of the Beatles and they hated when
they stereoized them because there was something about those mono
recordings that made them special. The compression to put it
all into the you know, it's just all coming at
you in one channel like that. I think there's magic

(02:27:03):
in that, and I think the other stuff is just interesting, like,
oh that's kind of cool. Not my preferred way to
check it out. So when they re release things remaster
them sometimes it's good because like the eighties, a lot
of the stuff in the eighties just was like a
bad period of production, and that stuff needs to be updated.
But a lot of the older stuff when it was
on tape, you know, that stuff sounds great already. There's

(02:27:25):
something to the limitations that make it really special.

Speaker 19 (02:27:29):
Onto the World Cup Semifinal number two today, three o'clock
England against Argentina, obviously a big one for both teams,
big enough for England that the Brits have been listed
the motivational services of Captain Jack Aubrey, a true master
at commanding an audience, to speak to the England team

(02:27:49):
prior to kickoff against Argentina.

Speaker 10 (02:27:53):
Right, lads, I know there's not a fan out among you,
and I know you're as anxious as I am to
get into close action. I will test on love and
discipline will count just as much as courage. England is
under the threat of invasion, and then we'd be on
the far side of the world. This ship is our home.

(02:28:14):
This ship is England.

Speaker 19 (02:28:20):
The food's terrible and the women are ugly interesting analogy
making a soccer team in a ship the same thing,
But I kind of like it. Okay, you know, we
perhaps should have seen this England run coming in advance,
and we would have had we trusted mad men's ability
to predict the future as much as we do the Simpsons.

Speaker 2 (02:28:38):
I know, say my blood's running now. Good day to
be an Englishman.

Speaker 4 (02:28:43):
I love that character. I don't know why.

Speaker 19 (02:28:44):
Like at first I hated that character, and then I
grew to love him Layton Price spoiler alert, have any
hung himself?

Speaker 13 (02:28:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:28:55):
Mad Men is one of like, there's a bunch of
eminently rewatchable shows, Soprano chief among them Madmen.

Speaker 19 (02:29:01):
If you haven't given it another spin man, you gotta
do it. I just did that recently, and now now
I'm doing it with west Wing.

Speaker 2 (02:29:08):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (02:29:08):
I did West Wing last year because I had never
You were the one telling me I have to watch it,
and I never watched it before. I really liked that.

Speaker 5 (02:29:14):
For the last three seasons I thought were garbage. Well
not that far yet. I remember I loved it the
first run. Once Jimmy Smiths gets in there, I'm like,
I don't need to say I got into it.

Speaker 19 (02:29:23):
And now it's just nostalgia for how I wait, how
I wish government would be. Yeah, it's what America, what
America was like when America was still America. It never
was like that, Mike. That is all Pollyanna. It'll It
should make you feel better to know that it was
never like that. There was an illusion that it was like,
leave me and my illusion lest I end up as

(02:29:45):
lame Price. Well hanging around Mark Madden's up next here
on the DV Morning Show.

Speaker 5 (02:29:52):
We are trying to help the economy. One DVE listener
at a time.

Speaker 9 (02:29:58):

Speaker 5 (02:30:25):

Speaker 4 (02:30:27):
Welcoming Mark Madden our brother station from one O five
to ninety X, brought to you by Bette Rivers Online.

Speaker 5 (02:30:32):
Casino in Sportsbook. It's a whole new game, double m Mark,
what's going on?

Speaker 12 (02:30:38):
Come all again? Everybody?

Speaker 4 (02:30:40):
Okay, here your phone. You sound a little tunnelly on
the phone today.

Speaker 12 (02:30:44):
Oh Mike, Paul Skins, I'm trying to tunnel all my pitches.
Whatever that means. I keep hearing it.

Speaker 4 (02:30:48):
Okay, thank you for taking part in the power ballad
Challenge the Pittsburgh Power Bottle Challenge the other night. I
thought that this was as entertaining of a show as
any of them have been to this point.

Speaker 13 (02:31:02):
Well, I know it hasn't aired yet, so you don't
want me to give away too much, correct, But it's
always important that somebody sucks, and I'll.

Speaker 2 (02:31:10):
Leave it at that.

Speaker 4 (02:31:12):
But you guys were all hilarious and the judging was great,
and people can listen to that Friday morning here on
DV starting at seven o'clock, we will rebroadcraft. Well, we'll
broadcast it all for the first time.

Speaker 2 (02:31:23):
Mark.

Speaker 5 (02:31:23):
We were having this discussion earlier. I'm wondering your thoughts
on it.

Speaker 4 (02:31:27):
Can you come up with classic artists or iconic music,
you know, bands, solo artists who put out records that
were impactful and relevant after the age of let's say
fifty five.

Speaker 2 (02:31:50):
No, that's as simple as that.

Speaker 12 (02:31:51):
I mean, I do like some of the songs I've
heard from the New Stones album, right.

Speaker 13 (02:31:57):
I'm not sure that anybody in any in the year
twenty twenty six is putting out stuff that's impactful and relevant.
I think that kind of music has kind of been retired,
and I think in today's fast food society with almost
every young person being a superficial idiot, that there's no
demand for that anyway.

Speaker 4 (02:32:16):
But if Mick Jagger writes a song you know that's
on their new record, I can't remember the name of
the first one.

Speaker 5 (02:32:23):
If he writes that song and it's on let's say.

Speaker 4 (02:32:29):
Tattoo You, does it get considered different just because of
the perspective of an artist who is then only like
thirty versus the guy who's eighty.

Speaker 13 (02:32:40):
I just think that any song that now would send
out a place of tat on tattoo You, because it
would have that much less youth and energy. I don't
think you could help, but I think the Stones and
people like Robert Plant with what he's doing now, have
become admired. Which is those old blues guys from way

(02:33:01):
back when no blues guys slowed down. They might have
done the same thing, but they just aged, and that's
not a bad thing. I think the big problem is
nobody's taken their place.

Speaker 4 (02:33:11):
Mark.

Speaker 5 (02:33:12):
Let me ask you, are you at home right now?
Are you on the road on your cell phone?

Speaker 12 (02:33:17):
I'm on the road on my cell phone. I'm at
the Ohio University.

Speaker 4 (02:33:21):
Uh can I have Jacob call you back? It's just
a it's a really crappy call. He'll call you right back.
The connection's awful, right, give us one second here. So
a reminder that the DVE Pittsburgh PowerBar Challenge finale will
air here Friday morning, started starting at seven o'clock.

Speaker 5 (02:33:39):
I thought it was great.

Speaker 4 (02:33:39):
The finalists where things used to be, the ode to
Big Bend and the ballad of the Pittsburgh Power ballad
Deer Angry.

Speaker 5 (02:33:52):
It is an angry little bit song.

Speaker 4 (02:33:54):
He's he feels like he's owed because Frank Montleone the artist,
he is a three well two time loser going into
this one. Will third time be the charm find out
by tuning into one O two point five DVE on
Friday morning, Jacob anything, Jacob No, He's not even answering. Now,

(02:34:18):
that's how bad a signal it was. Anyways, another reminder,
uh Greg Warren live and studio all Monday morning with
a huge Pittsburgh Comedy announcement.

Speaker 19 (02:34:31):
I keep seeing his stuff online in a Hugeness's just destroying.

Speaker 4 (02:34:35):
Well, you know, I've always liked him.

Speaker 19 (02:34:38):
I've always thought he was really good, but he has
achieved another level.

Speaker 5 (02:34:41):
At the age of like fifty seven, But.

Speaker 19 (02:34:44):
Maybe that means his early stuff wasn't that good after it. Well,
we'll tell him that I talked to him yesterday. He
can't wait to get here, but he's flying and special
to do it. So that'll be all Monday morning here
on DV. Yeah, all right, Mark, we got you back
you there?

Speaker 2 (02:34:57):
Okay? Yeah? Is that any better?

Speaker 5 (02:34:58):
A million times better?

Speaker 4 (02:35:01):
Good Lord speak? Okay, Yes, that's that always seems to
be the case. All right, the World Cup yesterday. Were
you surprised that Spain held off France.

Speaker 13 (02:35:12):
Well, I predicted Spain to win the tournament before it started.
Nonetheless surprised. They shackled Emboppy and all those great attackers
that France has and really left them begging without a
legitimate chance, except once when Spain made a mistake and
managed to.

Speaker 2 (02:35:27):
Cover up for it that turnover with the goalie up
the field a little bit.

Speaker 13 (02:35:31):
So yeah, uh, surprised that that France got shut down
so decisively.

Speaker 2 (02:35:36):
But I think Spain gets the most mileage out of
what it has.

Speaker 13 (02:35:40):
I think they have the team when it comes to
the whole being greater than the some of the parts,
and that's very often when a tournament like.

Speaker 5 (02:35:47):
This, all right, who wins between England and Argentina today?
Who are you rooting for?

Speaker 2 (02:35:53):
I'm not necessarily rooting.

Speaker 5 (02:35:55):
I'm rooting against England. Why Irish?

Speaker 13 (02:36:00):
Oh okay, well I'm Irish, dude, so that's fair. I
think that England always finds a way to screw up
in the big game. But this isn't the biggest game,
so you don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:36:12):
I think Messi's out of gas.

Speaker 13 (02:36:14):
So for him to win the game, I think it'll
be just him making one play at the right time,
as opposed to having any sort of domination, because like
I said, he looked just like he had slowed to
a crawl last game, and he don't run that much
to begin with.

Speaker 2 (02:36:28):
But if you made me.

Speaker 13 (02:36:29):
Pick somebody to I would say Argentina. I just I
just think England didn't pick the right team. I think
they are a weak in too many places. In Argentina,
even with Messi not how he started the tournament, I
think they just have more talent in more places.

Speaker 4 (02:36:45):
Do you have a solution to make the All Star
game more interesting? And even though it isn't that interesting,
is it better to still have it than not have it?

Speaker 2 (02:36:56):
You can't make it interesting, it's better not have it there.

Speaker 13 (02:36:59):
Or there's this notion in sports that anything we do
we should do forever, and some ideas just run their course,
and All Star Games are one of those. But they'll
never get rid of it because it does mean a
lot to the market it's held in. Yeah, yeah, money
terms of revenue, and it also you know, there's also

(02:37:20):
a revenue to be had via TV. But I didn't
watch one second of it. I don't watch the Home
Run Derby. I'm just not interested. I did watch enough
of Home Run Derby, just a few things on TV
to know what I knew anyway, But it was confirmed
Will Ferrell isn't funny anymore and maybe never was.

Speaker 5 (02:37:38):
Well, he definitely was.

Speaker 4 (02:37:41):
I will say that he's gone to the well too
many times with the same character. And I think we
had this discussion the other day the Canadians who depend
on character work to stay funny, whether it's Peter Sellers,
Mike Myers, or Will Ferrell, that is a tough way
to stay funny. As you age, it becomes more different
if you don't achieve something like Bill Murray was able

(02:38:02):
to be kind of funny as he went older because
it was more of a comedic persona. But he wasn't
doing characters. And so when he did decide to do
a character like Phil McCracken from Kingpin, Bigger and Bigger
and yeah, Ernie McCracken, not Phil mcrackett. Yeah, Like it
was hilarious, right, But it seems like Will Ferrell has

(02:38:26):
become one note that he's not even interested in playing anymore.

Speaker 13 (02:38:31):
I'll cut right to the chase. Will Ferrell was never
funny Adam McKay was. When their comedic partnership split up,
Ferrell stopped being funny, and even in the movies that
were hits, he never carried a movie. He was part
sometimes of an ensemble, sometimes as a cameo. I just
don't think he's the kind of guy who comedically ever

(02:38:51):
carried a movie. I think he's even if he has
been funny in Pockets, I think he's always been overrated.

Speaker 1 (02:38:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:38:57):
That was a just abysmally bad broadcast of the home
Run derby on Netflix the other night, and.

Speaker 13 (02:39:04):
Also reflective of why sports media totally sucks because you
can't just have the event.

Speaker 2 (02:39:10):
Everything has to be cross promotion.

Speaker 13 (02:39:12):
Hey, these guys have a series on Netflix coming up,
and now that I've heard them on Home Run Derby,
I will pointedly.

Speaker 5 (02:39:18):
Not watch it.

Speaker 4 (02:39:19):
Yeah all right, so double m Mark Madden. You can
hear him once again this Friday morning. Is part of
the dv Morning Show Pittsburgh Power Bioled Challenge, which will

Speaker 2 (02:39:42):
Workers of the World unit gotta go by cool.

Speaker 4 (02:39:46):
Whatever he did there, let's have him do that from
now on, Jacob, because that sounded good.

Speaker 5 (02:39:52):
Did you have him use the FaceTime audio? No, he
was not using speakerphone, so I had him switch when
he's home. He does insist on using his home.

Speaker 6 (02:40:02):
Phone because he can hang it up.

Speaker 4 (02:40:04):
Yeah, he likes to have that. There was no click today. Yeah,
I mean, I guess I can just add one when
he hangs up. When he goes gotta go.

Speaker 6 (02:40:13):
Oh, that's different.

Speaker 15 (02:40:15):
That's for the.

Speaker 4 (02:40:17):
