Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining me.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Now, he's got a great podcast with Trey Essex. You
hear him on the Steelers Postgame show on DVE and
on the Steelers Audio Network. Always a pleasure to talk
to former quarterback Charlie Batch. Charlie, I don't know if
you heard what I was just talking about, but don't
you feel like the Steelers' best bet is to come
out and participate in a high scoring game and try

(00:21):
to be Indie by thirty something to thirty something?

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (00:25):
I absolutely agree, and I like that that mindset. And
because now Aaron can control what goes on on at
the line of scrimmage, so a lot of that communication
would have to take place throughout the course of the
week between Arthur Smith and Aaron to think about, Okay,
here's how we're going to attack Indianapolis. So maybe they
run that hurry up and allow him the opportunity to
control it again, create those mismatches, to allow those points

(00:47):
to be created.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Now you think that's a good idea. I think that's
a good idea. I bet Mike Tomin doesn't think it's
a good idea. I bet they just don't do it.
Why wouldn't they do it?

Speaker 5 (00:58):
Well, sometimes you have a court they get in their
own way. And I say that.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
Because you have a lot of them, because if you
are successful offensively, you put up a ton of yards,
then the media is going to start asking.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
Hey, did you run hurry up?

Speaker 4 (01:10):
And the quarterback will say yes, and the coordinator doesn't
get credit for that. So ultimately, sometimes you know, especially
the visibility game that you have here, one of the
top games of the weekend, people are going to be
paying attention to it.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
And again, what does that look like?

Speaker 4 (01:22):
And how is Arthur Smith going to allow air and
the opportunity at the line the scrimmage to change play.
So again we that that is something that we'll just
have to wait and see what happens.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Is the Colts defense vulnerable because if you look at
their numbers, they're not great. I mean they're they're bad
on third down, they're near the bottom for yards allowed,
like like twenty fourth. I think it is they do
have a good scoring defense, but I think there's something
there the Steelers could exploit.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
Yeah, I look at it that way as well, because
you know, one of the things that there the Steelers
are going to have to do is try to control
that time and possession. You do so by running the football,
and I think altily when you look and see how
the mismatch ares created again, they're not gonna allow the Steelers.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
To beat him over the top.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
I don't expect to see a lot of single high
coverage in DK one on one down the field. I
just don't expect that I did the coach. Defense hasn't
been that break mentality, and they're gonna force you to
now go nine ten play drive and hope that you
make a mistake. And I think that's gonna be the
same thing that they attempt to do at this particular point.
And that's where you know, you just have to be

(02:26):
patient when defenses does that.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
One thing I am encouraged by with the Steelers offense,
Charlie and we touched on this a little bit last week.
The offensive line has gotten better. And let me add,
Jalen Warren's gotten better too. I think more and more
he looks like a legitimate number one NFL running back
and he's more powerful than I thought.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
He would be.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
Yeah, I agree with you there, and like you said,
that line has been getting better as the season went on,
and Jalen Warren to me, he's a three down back
because he could actually pass protect on third downs.

Speaker 5 (02:56):
But they're trying to spill him with Kenneth.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Gainwell to give him times avon Jalen Warren's legs.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
But again, it's one of those you know.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
To give or take, but you have to be able
to be successful on third down. They weren't able to
do that against Green Bay and it get that limity opportunity.
So I just think as this game evolves, I think
they're probably gonna go with the hot hand, and I
hope it's going to.

Speaker 5 (03:15):
Be Jalen as they move forward in his game.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Now, we got to.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Look at the Steelers defense because that's probably the biggest
story them facing that great offense for Indianapolis. Why is
that Steelers secondary disintegrated? Is it because it was thrown together?
Is it because the guys aren't good enough? And how
much will Kyle Dugger help?

Speaker 4 (03:34):
Yeah, I think when you look back, and I don't
know about Kyle Dugger only because I don't know how
much of the defense that he's gonna know heading into
this point. So I just think it's going to be
certain packages that he's going to be a part of.
That's why you brought Jabirol Peppers in here a month
ago when Deshaun Elliott went out, and now he should
hopefully have that experience of understanding the defense, so I
would expect to see him more. But to your point

(03:56):
on the secondary, to me, it just looks like they
are predictable. And I say predictable because they're gonna be
man across the board. There's no creativity when you have
on that secondary. If there is creativities, there's always a miscommunication.
Guys are running free. So I think Tero Austin should
simplify it. Run a little bit more of zone and
then trying to confuse Daniel Jones because we know his

(04:17):
strength is with a good running game and that allows
him to push the football down the field.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Would you try to take away one of in these weapons?
Would you try to limit their weaponry? Big Ben suggested
putting Jalen Ramsey in the slot and on the tight end,
and in this case that would be Tydler Warren and
he is running a muck in his rookie year.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
I mean, should they consider something like that.

Speaker 6 (04:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
The one thing about the tight end position, and this
is why the tight end is always the quarterback's best
friend is because you can't double team him. You have
to be hit one on one coverage, and most of
the time tight ends can beat a linebacker or a
safety if you have a very good one. And that's
why He's Miller was loved around here for years. So
I think ultimately, when you have that particular matchup, yeah,
you would like one person to be on the tight end.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
But again I don't know.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
But for me, if I'm game planning, I'm taking Jonathan
Taylor one hundred percent out of this game and make
Daniel Jones one dimensional and make him throw the football
down the field. But again, you now you're more susceptive
because you will be one on one on the outside
and because of the challenges on the back end. I
just don't know what that is sustainable throughout sixty minutes
of the game.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
I agree with your plan. I actually like it better
than mine, Charlie. I just think Ramsey and Warren is
a more realistic proposition to succeed than trying to shut
down Jonathan Taylor, like you said, at the expense of
having manned coverage a lot.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
Yeah, that's what's going on, because right now you know
there's penalties on the backside that has been happening, and again,
a lot of that communication and we don't know because
of what Deshaun Elliott and I you know, I'm a
big fan of Elliott, but without him being there right now,
how is that communication going to be. We've seen it
struggle on the road when community when crowd noise wasn't
an issue, but yet we've seen it at Akashore Stadium

(06:04):
that those guys aren't playing the same defense for whatever reason.
So I just don't know if we're going to see
a lot of those exotic coverages because the crowd is
going to be in the game and that's where defenses
are using signals, but you have to make sure that
everybody gets the same signal. So we you know, we'll
see how that plays out, but again that could be
a challenge throughout the course of the game with a
new guy.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
We're talking to Charlie Batch here on one oh five
to nine the X. This segment brought to us by
eighty four Lumber Dynasty partner the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dude, the
Steelers miss Minkah. That kind of ties into what we
were talking about. I like that trade initially, but Ramsey
hasn't been what we thought he would be. Maybe he's
being asked to do too much. And John who hasn't

(06:45):
been targeted like I expected. And Minka, even though he
was kind of mediocre the last two years, Charlie, I
thought he was a steady guy in the back.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
Yeah, I agree with you there, and I think this.
You know, for me, when I looked at that trade,
I said, it wasn't about skill or pretty much was
about salary. Anytime, you know, you have to be a
great safety at a high number in order for teams
to keep you, and the Steelers did a great job
of keeping Troy Polamalu at a number that was that
fit within the cap. But I think ultimately, when you

(07:15):
can now get to this knowing that all the money
is in the defense, you're trying to figure out how
you can exit out of that just in case things
don't work out a year or two down the line,
and get out of that contract. And I think that's
what ultimately happened. But yet, to your point, John new Smith,
we wanted to see more of him, and unfortunately, you know,
he's not where he would like to be because he

(07:35):
only has twenty two catches on a year for one
hundred and thirty four yards. We need to see more
of him, because that's why we traded for him.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
How do you get TJ.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Watt going, especially now that he's got that big deal
forty one million.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
I can't.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
I'm told that he doesn't want to change where he
lines up, that he just wants to rush from that
familiar side and go wide. And if he's doing that,
I think he's selling himself.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
Yeah, and then you know, throughout the course of his career,
that's where he's lined up and he's more comfortable. So
I understand from that perspective, but again, you know, I
would like to see, you know, a little bit more
creativity there. Maybe there's some defensive line twists that are
happening that maybe frees him up that's not going to
be stationary where you know exactly where he's going to be.
Now you can double team him, and he's tops in
the league of being double team So that's just something

(08:23):
that hopefully he's able to rebound. But also he don't
want to use that as an excuse why his numbers
are as low as what they are this year, at
least not the expectation that we have for TJ with
only four sacks, he wants to go out there and
prove I'm not using it as excuse. I can prove
that I can go out there and beat the double
team and get it done. But now, when you know
this far in the season, that's what the surprising part

(08:44):
is four sacks and Nick Herbert leads this team with
four and a half sacks. You know, I expect TJ
this game to really get going.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
I expect more from a lot of guys on defense, Charlie.
But Patrick Queen had a couple of real good games
in a row, and then against Green Bay he went backwards.
He really encouraged me for a couple of.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
Weeks though, yeah and yeah, and I really felt he
was starting to come on as well. But when I
looked at that Green Bay game and even the games,
you know, a couple game prior to what I'm seeing
is there's too much communication that's going on by him
having to line.

Speaker 5 (09:15):
Other people up.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
There's one thing to call, the defense, and the defensive
huddle you know, has set him and everything. But now
he's like telling everybody else what to do, and then
next thing you know, the ball is being snapped and
he loses his keys. I just want to see him
get back and I think some of that comes in
with the play being called in so late that.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
Doesn't allow him to get going. So maybe if they
expedite that.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
Process, he can get back to being comfortable lining the
defense up.

Speaker 5 (09:39):
And I have to worry about everybody else.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
What about the matchup of the Colts guard Quentin Nelson,
who will be very likely usually up against Cam Heyward,
It don't get no easier for Cam.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
Doesn't It doesn't you know exactly who you're going against.
And again, you know, yes they struggled with the run defense,
but now you have to figure out a way to
get dear Harming more involved in the game to make
sure that Cam is not necessarily having to take that
on every single snap and allow those guys to flourish,
because that's the reason you brought him in. If that happens,

(10:12):
Cam can actually do more. And you can see just
the frustration that he had and just watching the body
language even last game of what he had looking at
the defense. And that's not like Cam, you know, to
speak out in the manner that he did after the game,
challenging the players and the lack of energy and intentiveness
that they had, and that's just something that obviously they're
going to have to pay attention to because I know

(10:32):
he wants more out of that defense.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
Do you buy into Danny Dimes yet he was terrible
with the Giants, but not Stiking. Boy, what a great
offensive coach Stike it is, by the way, and now
he's an MVP candidate.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
You do you buy into that?

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Or is it too early to really take what he's
doing at face value?

Speaker 7 (10:52):
No?

Speaker 5 (10:52):
I take it for what it's worth.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
And remember we saw this last year with sam Donold
up there in Minnesota. You give him a lot of
weapons and then all of a sudden he can go
out there and play his game, even though he fell
unsuccessful with other places.

Speaker 5 (11:04):
This Daniel Jones, when you.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
Look at just the way that he is Taylor, his
best season came when Sakwon Barfley was behind him, he
got the big contract, they let Saquon walk out the door.
Things didn't go the way that he wanted to go,
and then he will from Minnesota to Indianapolis. Now you
give him a good running game with Jonathan Taylor, it
makes everything a lot easier. Why because that play action
game sets up those linebackers bite on that play action.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
Game and there's.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
Five yards in between the linebacker and safety for you
to be able to complete those passes. That is the
game plan that they've been working with. They got off
to a hot start, and here they are seven and
one at this particular point. So long way of saying
is yes, I buy into Danny Dimes.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Charlie. I'll be blunt.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
I see this game as being nearly impossible for the
Steelers to win. But here's the one disclaimer. The culture
only favored by three. That's kind of weird. I mean,
I always think, what did the books know that we don't.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
Every statistical category is in favor of the Colts. Maybe
the special teams may lean toward this Steeler's way, And
this is a game that you'd like, Yes, a no
brainer that the Coats will win. But for me, I'm
getting a sense in here to say, wait a minute.
This is sometime when the Steelers are at their best,
when their backstoor against the wall and everybody's counting them out.

(12:18):
I'm hoping that maybe the influx of the Super Bowl
forty teen that's coming into town this weekend, maybe that
pumps a little bit more energy into them. Meeting those guys,
talking to those guys, especially on the defensive side on
Saturday well before the game. Maybe that changes the mindset
and saying, Okay, we got to go out here and
get one for them. But ultimately this is a game
they have to win because they have to get the

(12:40):
five and three. There's no way they can get the
five to four and four playing five hundred when the
Ravens are getting hot right now.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Charlie, great stuff. As always, thank you for your time.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
We look forward to the postgame show Sunday and we'll
talk to you next week.

Speaker 5 (12:53):
Yeah, I appreciate it. Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
That's Charlie Batchi's awesome. Brought to us by eighty four Lumber.
We got a an unusual idea for a WNBA All
Star game. We'll talk about a minute, And I was
gonna bring up good segue by Charlie that Super Bowl
forty team being at the game on Sunday one oh
five ninety.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
X hits Bunny Diver and I just love good news.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Okay, so this is a great story I just heard
about on a ninety degree day in races.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Super genius doubles.

Speaker 8 (13:20):
Hey, more good with a.

Speaker 5 (13:21):
Range whoo the X at one O five nine.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
We got mister Friday afternoon, at the bottom of the hour,
we got Sean Super from the Pittsburgh River Hans in
five point fifteen. Don't forget the Hounds host Hartford Athletic
for a playoff game tomorrow night at high Mark. If
you got tickets to the blackout like the Scorpions.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
I mean they had a black out.

Speaker 6 (13:47):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
We go now to our good friend, too long of
an absence, since he's called he is the Hebrew hammer
hammer yak shamash.

Speaker 9 (13:57):
Yuk shimash mark.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Hey, the new phone number has.

Speaker 6 (14:00):
Just sunk my battleship.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Basically, I can't get it straight.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
I agree, because the first numbers are eight three three,
The second numbers are four to one two, which is
the usual area code.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
It's very confusing.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
Yeah, and then eight three to three is a tool call.
So I mean you gotta watch the bottom line there,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
I'm sure you can afford it, but do go on.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Hey, I heard you playing Stairway to seven yesterday.

Speaker 8 (14:26):
That's a good tune.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
No, that was led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Okay, they're close close, Hey, but the Steeler game here,
you said it's a three point spread, and you know,
maybe people were leery. But I do think it has
something to do with the Colts being a non traditional
power and have a big following. I just think the
Colts just got too much man power for them.

Speaker 6 (14:52):
And I mean I would.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Load up, you know, I'd load up like one of
those cheesy I one eight hundred numbers. I'd say, I
bet that mortgane bet the mortgage.

Speaker 6 (15:01):
On the Colts.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Well, I might drop a couple of dimes on Danny Dimes.
And I think you're onto something. I think the reason
the the point spread is so narrow is because the
Colts aren't a good brand name, and if you made
the Steelers a big underdog, all the money would come
in on the Steelers. I think, like like always, the
purpose of the point spread is to try to get

(15:22):
even money on each side.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Yeah, I mean Pat hard Doozy's recommended his players bet
on the Colts.

Speaker 6 (15:30):
That's how much of a lot this is.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
That's your cue whammy. Let's go to Dave in Pittsburgh. Dave,
you're on with Mark.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Hang up your phone, Hang up your phone, Hang up
your phone, Hang up your phone. Not not no, I
mean I've been turned off your radio. Okay, that probably
wouldn't have been a good call anyway. Like Charlie Batch mentioned,
the Super Bowl, uh forty guys are gonna be in

(16:01):
attendance Sunday, and those guys were badass. A lot of
great leaders on that team, like Troy and Farrier, you
know the names. I'm not sure exactly who's going to
be there, but kesel Fanica just a bunch of nailed
on winners. Boy, how embarrassing would it be if they
get their asses handed to them by Indy in front

(16:22):
of those guys? But then again, I gotta be honest,
I think most of the Steelers you know, really wouldn't
be embarrassed, especially the money guys. The guys who got
the bag. They got what they played football for. Those
guys from the Super Bowl forty team, they played football
to win. The guys on this team played football to
get the bag and they got it. So job done

(16:44):
until they prove otherwise. That's what I'm going with. But
right now it's time to bet with bet Park because
I love bet Parks. A couple of dimes on Danny dimes.
There's always another way to win on the Betparks online
casino in sportsbook app. I use it, I love it,

(17:04):
I recommend it, and it is all about the live
bet bet while you watch.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
It's total NonStop action at bet Parks.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Got a college football Saturday, pitt Is a fourteen and
a half point road favorite at Stanford. We got a
Pro football Sunday, the Black and Gold three and a
half point home underdogs hosting Indianapolis. Bet Parks also has
all your favorite class at casino games and they're all

eight hundred gambler, whether your team scores or not, take
it from the super genius. There's always another way to

(17:54):
win on the Betparks online casino and sportsbook app. Next,
go to mister Friday Afternoon get the football picks.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
He went on six last week one oh five nine
y X. If you can't get enough, if you're a pitch.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
I think we've come to a crossroads with this segment,
which has been part of the show since the very
first year.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Of the show.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
Mister Friday Afternoon, you went on six last week. You
were now sixteen and twenty five on the season. You
had a losing record last year as well. Forget the
electric shock. We're gonna we're gonna get rid of that.
But you have two weeks to pick it up or
you're fired. Sixteen and twenty five on the year. It's unacceptable.
Oh and six last week. It's unacceptable two weeks. If

(18:39):
you're not over five hundred in these two weeks, screw you,
you're fired.

Speaker 6 (18:45):
Well, my contract is ironclad.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Well, first off, I talked to HR and they said
it's all right. Second off, upper management said that you
should sue us and we'll see who runs out of
money first, and I have a hunch.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
It would be you.

Speaker 6 (19:01):
What am I gonna see you for?

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Well, it's a it's a big company. I heart media.

Speaker 6 (19:06):
If the contracts aren't rote, so sue you for a
wrongful termination. If you terminate me.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
No, you can sue for whatever you want, but but
if you don't have a record of above five hundred
in two weeks, you're fired. Mike Tomlin has never had
a losing season, mister Friday Afternoon, All you have is
losing seasons. And I feel a lot better about all
this if you would just admit you hate the Steelers.

Speaker 6 (19:30):
Well, can we just get on with the picks, because
what you're trying to do is create a negative a
negative vibe. And I think what happened is you went oh.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
And six last week.

Speaker 6 (19:40):
That is yeah, but what but I'm suffering. I'm suffering
side effects from the shock treatments. And what has done
is it's it's it's affected my uh my thinking. I've
I'm I'm foggy. I don't think clearly, clearly.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
You've all you've had a losing record almost every year
you've done this.

Speaker 6 (20:07):
That's not that's not true.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
No, it's absolutely true.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
Perhaps you've forgotten because your mind has been uh made
made made uh lesser by the shocks.

Speaker 6 (20:18):
Correct that well, that you're admitting that, so no, no,
you I'm telling you that an admission week, It's an
admission of guilt. And what I'm going to do is
I everyone assue. Now we have an on air admission
of guilt that that what you've done is the shock treatment.

Speaker 1 (20:36):
I'm sorry, I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
We lost Apparently the tape wasn't rolling, so you know,
whatever it was said, and I'm admitting to nothing, there's
no tape of it.

Speaker 6 (20:47):
Oh so the tapes have been doctored.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
No, they just we forgot that, we forgot to hit
the on switch.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
Our our producer, Tom you've talked to me as a
drinking problem.

Speaker 6 (20:56):
He sounds like it. Who's the other guy that stills
in for you? He sounds like he's got he's got
a drinking problem too. What's going on with the drinking?
Let's going to the drinking problem here at the mark next.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
After doing this for thirty years with you as part
of the program, I feel like I should have a
drinking problem.

Speaker 6 (21:15):
Well, the best thing that people can do is watch
the Steelers and drink. No problem.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Okay, so let's pick the Steeler game first. The Steelers
are three and a half point underdogs.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
What's your called?

Speaker 6 (21:29):
So there are two good trends on this. Mike Tomlin
off the loss is good. Mike Tomlin is an underdog
at home is good? So we're gonna take Indian Napolis
minus three and a half.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
Okay, because I'm thinking about putting a bet down myself,
would you would you guarantee this?

Speaker 6 (21:44):
Well, I'm doing this. I'm giving this bit with no doubt,
the zero doubt. This is so the Steelers were doing
pretty well when they were getting a bunch of turnovers.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
I think, pretty well when they get a bunch.

Speaker 6 (21:59):
Of Yeah, but the Steals are not getting turnovers. And
so when the Steals are not getting turnovers, they're not covering,
They're not their defense is leaking.

Speaker 10 (22:08):
You know.

Speaker 6 (22:09):
The only really decent win they have is the game
against the Patriots when they won with the hatreds of
five turnovers and two of them on the goal line.
That was like an anomalog. No.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
I got a question, why should I take your analysis
seriously when you went on in six last week?

Speaker 6 (22:24):
You don't have to. I would suggest you maybe you
you bet the other way would be the logical thing
to do. Correct.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
Okay, what's your pick of the week.

Speaker 6 (22:34):
My pick of the week, I want to make kick uh.
My pick of the week is going to be the uh.
We're gonna take the Rams mine. It's fourteen and a
half against the Saints.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
Okay, tell me why.

Speaker 6 (22:47):
Just I'm gonna let you do the handicap on this. Well,
why would you think the Rams one is fourteen and
a half be a good pick against the Saints.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
I just don't care. It's your job to do.

Speaker 6 (22:57):
I know you don't care, but you have to do
the segment. I ask you, assistant. They were probably helping them.
It would help in the lawsuit.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Fourteen and a half.

Speaker 6 (23:09):
Now it's I'll tell you why. I tell you why.
It's easy because like the I don't think there's a
path to uh two enough scores where Tyler shook at
quarterback and gives a good defense and the and the
the Rams offense, even without Pook and the coup is
is is a machine. This is just gonna be a mismatch.
They're gonna get a lot of three and outs on
the world is. The Rams are gonna have a lot
of possessions. The defense is gonna get tired on the Saints.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
Enough already, you don't know what you're talking about. What's
the daily double.

Speaker 6 (23:38):
We're gonna take out of the Carolina Panthers for twelve
and a half at Green Bay.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
Carolina Plants is twelve and a half at Green Bay.
Would you care to explain why?

Speaker 6 (23:46):
Uh, it's a sandwich game from green Bay. To look ahead.
They given a lot of points here. They just beat
the they just won the Aaron Rodgers game, and next
week they played Eagles on Monday night for possibly the
top spot in the conference. To look ahead, so I
expect them to get ahead in this game, and they
said that. I looked on coach Speak Index and uh,

(24:08):
Dave Canaly says that Bryce Young looks great in practice
singing the ball around. So in that time off with
Bryce Young might have helped them a little bit. Did
last year too?

Speaker 2 (24:18):
Frankish information from sources, Yes, the same sources.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
That gave you information that led you to go oh
and six last week.

Speaker 6 (24:26):
No, those are different sources.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
Let's review the picks.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
Colors minus three and a half, l a rams that
would door down on them in Carolina plus twelve and
a half.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
Now it's time for.

Speaker 6 (24:42):
Me wait wait, wait, that's Caroline and a half. That's
the Daily double.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
Yeah, I know, and now it's time for me to
pick the super collider.

Speaker 7 (24:55):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
The super collider is the Steelers games Steelers minus three
and a half.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
It's the super Climb.

Speaker 6 (25:03):
Oh fantastic. So you're giving you're giving me the Steelers
mine if you're giving the Cults plus three and a half.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
For that, No, I'm sorry, the Steelers plus three and
a half.

Speaker 6 (25:16):
Wait a minute, but the pick is Indianapolis min is
three and a half.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
That's not what he said, Yes.

Speaker 6 (25:21):
It is what I said. I said, I gave a
reason of why the Steelers should cover, but they're not
because they don't turn the ball.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
I just want this segment to be over with. That's
the attitude I'm going to have. I'm barely gonna listen.
But the pick is and it's the super Collider Indian Apples.

Speaker 6 (25:36):
I talk to my fans, can't talk to my fans.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
Let's go to Andy, Andy, your old mister Friday afternoon.

Speaker 11 (25:43):
Hey, mister Praton, I hope you're doing well. Big fan
wanted to ask, how can my feet smell if they
don't have a nose, If you don't have a nose,
if they don't have a nose, how can my feet smell?

Speaker 6 (25:56):
That's it's a good question. You can't smell because they know.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
You only like it because you have this huge two
can size nose.

Speaker 6 (26:06):
Well, that's now what you're doing this you're you're at
I'm gonna see for multiple things for Ford Slender statements.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
Your nose is big, correct, case dismissed. Okay, let's reave
you the picks one more time to make sure I
was paying some sort of marginal attention. Indianapolis minus three
and a half.

Speaker 6 (26:25):
Is the super.

Speaker 1 (26:28):
Uh, the l a Rams.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Minus fourteen and a half, and then the daily double Carolina.

Speaker 6 (26:37):
All right, I'm looking for a great week this week.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
Yeah, like in two you have to be over five
hundred in these two weeks or you're fired.

Speaker 6 (26:48):
Well, who's gonna replace you.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
With somebody else?

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Time to ask mark anything four one two excuse me
eight three three four one two w xd x A
three three four one two w xdx, or even talkback
via the microphone eke icon at the iHeartMedia app one
oh five nine.

Speaker 10 (27:06):
Eighty four Lumber is your one stop destination for top
quality materials and personalized service. Whether you're a seasoned contractor
or a first time do it yourself. Eighty four Lumber
is open to the public and ready to help you
with your project from estimate to build. Their fourteen Pittsburgh
area locations are open on Saturdays for your convenience. Don't wait.

(27:28):
Visit your local eighty four lumber to stop up on
supplies this weekend and let's get building together.

Speaker 5 (27:37):
It's a super genius.

Speaker 12 (27:38):
Mark Madden, what do you think about the new I
can't remember.

Speaker 6 (27:43):
Our call time?

Speaker 1 (27:44):
Really awesome call DXA one oh five nine. Time to
ask Mark anything?

Speaker 2 (27:52):
Brought to us by People's Natural Gas, People's at es
sense of Utilities Company. That's People's Hyphengas dot Com. Another Steeler, No,
Chuck Clark is questionable for the game Sunday against Indianapolis.
I think that's a break for the Steelers. My worry
was that he wouldn't be questionable because he sucks.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
Don't forget watch.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
The game with me at the Schoolhouse, Tavern and Clarriage
at one pm Sunday. Uh, let's go to Sanderson Sanderson
ask Mark anything?

Speaker 6 (28:23):
What up? Man?

Speaker 1 (28:23):
What up?

Speaker 9 (28:24):
Mine?

Speaker 8 (28:26):
I was calling to find out if uh, mister waste
Friday afternoon? That was just on as Actually songs relative
and they have to be on because it's a favorite
of song. Because that was not only not informative, it
was like terrible.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Hey, I'm with you, but I mean but I mean,
we must know somebody a favor because it makes no
sense to have him on. But like I said, he
goes under five hundred, next two weeks he is terminated.

Speaker 8 (28:53):
Oh my lord, I thank you.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
It'd be great, wouldn't it.

Speaker 8 (28:59):
It would awesome?

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Friday, and to you. Let's go to art art ask
Mark anything?

Speaker 8 (29:05):
Hey Mark, I know it's always been this way, but
in hockey scoring, do you think there should beak two
assists on a goal or only one assist on a goal?

Speaker 1 (29:13):
Well, it's too late to change it now.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
It would It would skew your entire record book, right, So,
so I think there's should be one assist, or they
should wait it so the primary assist is more meaningful.
Then again, some primary assists are just flukey bombs. Is.
It's the kind of situation where I think they should
just leave it like it is, because there's no real

(29:37):
great gain by doing otherwise. I always thought that goals
should count more. I would give two points for a goal,
one point for an assist.

Speaker 5 (29:46):
I'd kill with that too.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
Yeah, but again, it's not a big enough deal to
worry about adjusting. Thank you for the call. Let's go
to a talkback.

Speaker 7 (29:56):
Super Genius Eric and Toledo. Of the five students who
are held in detention in the breakfast club, which character
is your favorite? You can't say the principal or the janitor.
I'm asking about the five students here.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
Thanks, Well, my favorite characters weren't the principal and the janitor.
Not the principle. He's not the principal, He's just the teacher.
I think I thought the Judd Nelson character the the
the fake tough guy Stoner and I say fake tough
guy because he backed on when the teacher got in
his face. But but he Judd Nelson. I think Judd

(30:28):
Nelson's really he's It's weird. He's not a good actor,
but he has memorable roles like I Get off the
top of my head, name a bunch of things he
was in like Jay and Silo, Bob Strike Back. His
acting was awful in New Jack City, but he was
a good part of that movie.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
Let's go to Let's go to Don in Murraysville, in Brownsville,
wherever Don You're.

Speaker 6 (30:52):
On, Hey, Mark, how's it going good. I'm just calling
to see if you still had your National deck Hockey
League because my cousin he Gay Lovins, played for you
for years.

Speaker 2 (31:04):
Yeah he did. He played for my under twenty team.
He was a real good kid and a and a
real good player. I think his older brother, Byron played
for me at some level too. But uh, but no,
I don't know. I don't coach anymore. I haven't coached
for years, but I still run some tournaments, including one
at Murraysville Sports Zone a week from this weekend with
eighteen teams. Thank you for the call. Let's go to

(31:26):
Roddington Roddington, ask Mark anything.

Speaker 12 (31:30):
Mister manishi wa hey Mark here in beautiful San Francisco
with missus Ronnington for the pitch Stanford game this weekend.

Speaker 5 (31:40):
If they don't pull an oar JUGI.

Speaker 1 (31:43):
The watch tomorrow and win.

Speaker 12 (31:44):
Do you think there's any sort of chance they go
on a run against this three team great stretch within
the season.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
I don't really pay attention.

Speaker 12 (31:56):
I don't really blame you either on that.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
No, I mean it just I don't care. I don't
like Nardoozi. I don't want Pitt to fail, but I
don't want him to succeed. The ACC is really weak.
Do I think they could get in the playoffs?

Speaker 9 (32:09):
No?

Speaker 1 (32:09):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
I think they would have to win the ACC to
make the playoffs, and I don't think they're good enough
to do that. Let's go to j jay Eskmark anything.

Speaker 9 (32:20):
Yeah, Mark, I just wonder if you think we're going
to see the same old Tomlin on Sunday with the
field goals in the red zone because he is towers
and four down and Indianapolis's band.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
But don't break.

Speaker 9 (32:30):
I think they're going to bait him into a lot
of field goals which will cost us the games.

Speaker 6 (32:34):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
I think a lot of things will cost them the game.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
But as the coursing I talked about yesterday and I've
been repeating since then, Mike says they have to play
basketball to beat the Colts, try to match them score
for score, and I agree with that. I think the
Colts defense, maybe it's not suspect, that's probably too strong
a word, but I think there's cracks there, and I

(32:57):
think if the Steelers try.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
To force their usual and perferm low scoring.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
Rock fight, I don't think they have a chance to
win because I don't think they can shut down the
Colts offense to the degree required. So I think Tom
will come out and not change one thing. Don't don't
have one nuance, not one thing to try to surprise
or shock or even change a little bit. They'll just
come out and play like they play and probably lose.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
I've always said.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
The Steelers have no strategy other than just showing up
and being the Steelers mark.

Speaker 9 (33:33):
And that's the trap that Tom AND's telling you last
Sunday night.

Speaker 6 (33:36):
With the field goals.

Speaker 9 (33:37):
In the first half, when there was a chance to
capitalize on scoring drives.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
It it's a trap.

Speaker 2 (33:44):
A trap implies he's somehow getting into sucked into something,
sucked into something he doesn't want to do.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
That's what he prefers.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
He wants field goals he doesn't want to and when
he gets a lead like he.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
Did, he doesn't try to extend it. He just tries
to hold it.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
His method of doing things is pathetic and outdated.

Speaker 9 (34:01):
It's cowardice. To be honest, he's too.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
I don't think it's cowardice. I think it's just stupidity.
I don't think he's very bright. Not football right, not
normal intelligence right. He sounds good at those press conferences
because he reads from a thesaurus.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
I don't think he has a clue about much of anything.

Speaker 9 (34:20):
Do you think he's a repressional one guy. That's why
he says the big books.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
Well, I think there's a lot to be said for that.
Let's go to a talkback.

Speaker 8 (34:30):
Hey, Mark, don't you think that the Steelers is basically
collected football cards?

Speaker 12 (34:36):
They have nobody that's any good anymore, and they're just
a bunch of old dudes.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
I think that's accurate.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
I think that they assembled a bunch of big names
on defense without thinking how that fits. I think they
brought it like John hu Smith, without really knowing what
they were going to do with him. I think there's
so many examples of the way players have been deployed
that suggests what you were saying is one thousand percent true.
They just go out and get players and then try

(35:04):
to figure outter the fact what to do with them.
And again, like I said, John new Smith has just
been superfluous. It doesn't matter that they have him, and
he was part of a big deal. And the reason
that deal was thought to favor the Steelers was because
they not only got Jalen Ramsey, but also got John
new Smith in that trade with Miami for Mick and Fitzpatrick.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
Omar CON's incompetent.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
We talk about Tom was incompetence a lot, and it's
more visible. It's on TV every game, and he does
have final say on our personnel decisions. But con doesn't
know what he's doing. He's a Bean Connor, He's a
cap guy. He never should have got the job in
the first place. Let's go to a talkback.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
Hey, Mark Beans of Talloween, what is your favorite scary movie?

Speaker 2 (35:52):
Well, the scariest movie ever is The Exorcist, as Tom
and I talked about earlier this week, by far the
scariest movie ever. Have watched it for years because it
gives me nightmares even as an adult. Jaws is the
second scariest movie but you can avoid having nightmares about
that by just not going in the water. You know,
the land shark was a character on Saturday Night Live,

(36:15):
but he doesn't really exist. Let's get a couple more
calls in eight three, three, four one two WXDX. Let's
go to Tony Tony Rod Mart Madden show.

Speaker 6 (36:26):
A super genius.

Speaker 9 (36:27):
I know you're a connoisseur of concerts and the bended several.

Speaker 6 (36:32):
Do you have an all time favorite concert?

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Yeah, I've answered this question before.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
I forget the exact day, but it was nineteen eighty
eight Wheeling Civic Center now West Banco Arena. The open
air act was Guns N' Roses, who were climbing the
ladder on the back of Appetite for Destruction, which is
arguably the best debut album by any band ever, and
Aerosmith on the Comeback Trail after reassembling with Joe Perry

(36:58):
back on guitar was the headliner. So you at each
band trying to prove something, but trying to prove something
totally different. There was like a little bit of an
air of competition between the two. You had that hillbilly vibe.
Being in West Virginia, all it's not a huge arena,
but it was one hundred percent sold out, and both
bands just performed in electric fashion.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
So that is the most.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
Memorable one, although I gotta tell you the Robert Plants
show last night at Wheeling, also in Wheeling, My god,
I just thought of that now at the Capitol Theater
this time was right up there with just about any
concerent I've seen and is definitely in my top ten
of all time. The Pittsburgh River Hans Soccer Club hosts
a first round playoff game against Hartford Athletic tomorrow night

(37:45):
at Himark Stadium at Station Square. Joining me now is
one of the center backs for the Hans, a real
rock on the back line. He is Sean suber Sean.
It's a playoff game and one that seems very easily matched,
as you and hart for Death lef to finish tied
in the USL standings. What do you think can give
the Hans the edge in this big game tomorrow night.

Speaker 13 (38:08):
Honestly, I think the fans in the habitsphere is going
to give us the edge tomorrow. Being at home is
going to be a huge advantage to us. And we've
been preparing all week for this game and the boys
are flying.

Speaker 6 (38:18):
We're ready to go.

Speaker 9 (38:19):
That's excited for the moment tomorrow night.

Speaker 2 (38:21):
You beat hard for the Athletics twice this year, narrow
games one nil than two to one.

Speaker 1 (38:26):
What's your takeaway from.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
Those wins going into tomorrow night and how much did
you study what you did in those games?

Speaker 6 (38:34):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (38:34):
I mean, obviously the first game we played them early
in the year when they were not their best and
they've been flying lately. We played them about a month
and a half ago, So looking back at that game,
a little bit, but just looking at their most recent
form over the last few weeks, see what we can
exploit in the game tomorrow and what they do on
offense and defense, and see what we can do to
create the advantage in our ways and get the job

(38:55):
done for real.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
Now, Albert Deequa, who goes by Chico now is on
for de Athletic. You were not with the River Haunts
when he played here and was the team's big goal scorer.
What do you know about him and what's the secret
to try to defend him properly?

Speaker 6 (39:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (39:11):
I definitely know too much about him because I wasn't
here with him, but played against him a few times.
Now in my career's got to be aware of what
he can do.

Speaker 10 (39:18):
On the field.

Speaker 13 (39:19):
Obviously, it's gonna have to be all eleven of us
trying to defend. And I'll be ready for the fight
tomorrow and my other dependency ready as well.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
Now, you played every minute of every match in the
entire regular season, which is quite an accomplishment. Shows how
much the team CONTs on you. How do you feel now,
I mean, is that exhausting? I know you want to
play every minute, so I guess it worked out like
you wanted all.

Speaker 13 (39:42):
Right, exactly, No, definitely blessed to have played every minute
this year, for the coaches to have that confidence in
me to play every minute of the season.

Speaker 6 (39:49):
I'm obviously just ready to go.

Speaker 13 (39:51):
Got more energized for this playoff game and ready to
finish strong over these next four games.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
What do you think makes you a good defender, Sean?

Speaker 2 (39:58):
Having watched a lot of games this year, you clean
up the six yard bocks pretty well. I know you
had a ton of clearances for the River Hanks this year.

Speaker 6 (40:06):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 13 (40:07):
I feel like reading the game and always being that
last line of defense for the team, I feel like
it's helped me a lot. I feel my passing ability
as well makes me a good defender, and just my
aerial threats throughout the game. And I'm trying to become
a better leader as well.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
And by the way, that's stat two hundred and four clearances,
which lad the US selling is the third most in
a season in league history. And also you have Eric
Dicken goal behind you, who is just a phenomenal goalkeeper.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
What's it like to play in front of him?

Speaker 2 (40:33):
How does that kind of I don't want to say,
make your job easier, Sean, But certainly he's a great keeper.

Speaker 1 (40:39):
No, one hundred percent.

Speaker 13 (40:40):
It actually does make my job a little bit easier
just knowing that I have him behind me to stop
any shots that I happen to let go through. He's
an amazing keeper, makes them unreal, say South the year,
good communicator keeps me going throught the ninety minutes though,
bless to have him behind me in the net.

Speaker 6 (40:55):
Now.

Speaker 1 (40:55):
It's been an up and down year for the River Hans.

Speaker 2 (40:57):
You finished almost exactly a five hundred with the ties
coned two. Do you feel you guys are playing well
going into the postseason. It seems like the last month
you found a different and better gear.

Speaker 13 (41:10):
Yeah, one hundred percent. I would say we've definitely found
our form at the right moment. It's been a long season,
but I feel like some of our ideas are starting
to come our way and the balls throwing.

Speaker 9 (41:19):
The bounce our way a little bit.

Speaker 13 (41:20):
So hoping to keep that day form going into tomorrow
night and have a good performance.

Speaker 1 (41:24):
Now.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
It's always, like you said, a great atmosphere at high Mark.
Another sellout's expected now the fans are gonna be in
a blackout.

Speaker 1 (41:32):
They're all going to wear black. What color you guys,
mare and I hope you're wearing black to fit in.

Speaker 13 (41:36):
Yeah, we're wearing black and gold.

Speaker 1 (41:38):
Well, there you go.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
That usually works in this ton Sewan, Thank you so
much for taking the time.

Speaker 1 (41:42):
Congratulations on your regular season. Good luck. I'll see you
tomorrow night.

Speaker 13 (41:47):
Thank you so much to you.

Speaker 2 (41:48):
That's Sean Suber, center defender for the River Hunts. Gonna
be a big game tomorrow night, a big game atmosphere.
Can't wait to check it out. I'm not sure I'm
gonna wear black though. Well, now black's a slim and color.

Speaker 1 (42:03):
Uh. One thing we're to talk about next week.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
In addition to the Steelers game, I just saw a
video and I don't know.

Speaker 1 (42:10):
When it's from, but it was.

Speaker 2 (42:11):
It was a podcast with two current w NBA players,
Aliah Boston and Sydney Colson, who both play for Indiana
with Katelyn Clark, and also Candice Parker, who's an all
time great unquote for the WNBA, and their idea was
for a future w NBA All Star Game to have

(42:36):
it be the straight players against the gay players. I'd
watch it. I would absolutely watch it, wouldn't you. Now
here's my question though, how do you know which How
do you know which team each girl should be put on?
How do they provide proof of purchase so to speak?

Speaker 1 (42:54):

Speaker 2 (42:56):

Speaker 1 (43:40):
Three and a half point underdogs.

Speaker 2 (43:41):
Then again, like I keep saying, the idea of the

the real line would be in D minus seven and

(44:01):

Speaker 1 (44:06):
