Speaker 1 (00:02):
It's time for baseball talk with our baseball guy, Dave Smith. Smitty,
don't know if you heard what I just said. Would
you take Keller out of the rotation and put Leginski in?
Speaker 2 (00:12):
You know what, I might, but I'd rather see somebody
improve that bullpen before I put Carmen back as a
starting pitcher, which is I think what they ought to do.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Yeah, but the problem with that is they don't use
Leginski in a fashion that improves the bullpen. They use
him in crappy rolls and let you let lesser pictures
get the leverage spots, which I don't understand. So given
that I would put Leginski in the rotation, they just.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Don't like you.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
That.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
That whole piggyback act is just bizarre. I mean, it's
bad enough that baseball faces this paradox where the most
expensive guys on the team are your starting pitchers and
then you take them out after five innings and then
put the weak pitchers in, I mean, over and over
and over again, and then expecting that to work. Well,
you know what, it's not going to work if you
don't have you need to really mighty bullpen. Had that happen, yeah,
(01:01):
you might have a good closure.
Speaker 5 (01:02):
But you know who's your who's your right and left setup? Men,
It's it's a.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Very difficult situation. I'd rather see Majinsky starting myself. But
you know, I have got pins and Keller. But then again,
like I say, I might, I might still have sun
sunstroke from.
Speaker 5 (01:18):
Chasing the Big Boy all weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
But I really think that Keller can still do something
positive for this team.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
But I'm feeling good about the team right now. So
maybe that's a little bit of black and gold colored glasses.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
And the Big Boy to train the train kept her
rolling like like aerosmith.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Uh, would you trade Cruise?
Speaker 1 (01:36):
I brought that up too, because if you believe in
Valdez Valdes and't Mangam give it him enough in the otfield,
and Crews would bring good return.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
I know you're not a fan of Cruise, they would.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
They need to be bold at this trade deadline. They
need to be bold to demonstrate to this fan base
that we are not going to sit on this and
then promise you something in twenty seven. We want to
go for it right now, We're going to sprint. They
need be bold.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
I would trade Cruise tomorrow. I would trade.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Crewse you know, I think it they would be surprised
how much they would not.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
Get for cruise.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Oh no, I disagree, and I disagree.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
I think teams are suckered by his potential, just like
the Pirates have been to this point.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Certain franchises are San Diego is that interested him in
the past. The Yankees will always go for some big
lug like that. The Blue Jays have been looking at
him over the course of the past season or so.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
Hey. You know, if I could get I would trade him.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Straight up to Toronto for Louis Varland. I would trade
him to San Diego. But you're not gonna get Mason Millery.
You might, you never know, because that's gonna cost you.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Not just for cruise, not just for cruise. And let
me skip ahead. Let me skip ahead, Smitty. Here's the
problem with the bullpen. People want to fix it. That's
easier said than done. I think it would take two
or three solved arms to fix that bullpen, not one, certainly.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
Yeah, because if you really look at the.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Situation with that bullpen, I mean, the weaknesses are very pointed.
Dennis Santana is one nine hearances this season with two
or more runs, giving up Hey, that's not my number
one right handed relief pitcher, I'll tell you that.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
And there's guys out there to be picked up right now.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Everybody's talking about Antonio Senzetele for them to get out
of Colorado. He's come down a little bit from the
hot start he had this year. But you know, not
even Mason Miller. I'd take Eric Miller from the Giants.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
I think stay away from Luke Weaver for the Mets.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
He's having a great season, but the only great season
he's ever had since he was in Pony League. But
Garrett Wentlock from the Red Sox certainly would be a
nice pickup. But usually with the Red Sox you can
fleece them here and there. So there are guys out
there for them.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
Them to pick up.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
And they should not only not limit themselves to just
right handers. I mean Sam Hinches from the Giants. Tyler
Holton from the Tigers is still a good pitcher. There's
a lot of moves that they can make and one.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Three they need to be bulled.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
This is a playoffs or bust type of year, and
if they don't make it, I think that's just a disaster.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
Now.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Is that?
Speaker 1 (03:57):
As for real, and if so, how real. It's a
small sample, but but there's no denying his power is
very legit. You you can see him get fooled on
the pitch and still drive it.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
Oh yeah, ill you know what he's got. He's got
the uh, he's got the head in the game too.
This is the big thing.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
I mean, I don't know whether it's the character guys
like Lao and hearn who's rubbed off on him right now,
because he's in a great position right now to be
around a young a young stud like Connor Griffin and
then older guys with some wisdom.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
Like o'hearne and like uh like Lao.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
But like I told you last summer about as Merlin
Valdez when he was playing for Greensboro and he.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
Was leading them in home runs. You know, now, I
could sit there and say, Johnny Severino's.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Doing that now, but like we'll have to wait til
next year to see that. I think Valdez is the
real thing.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
I really do.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
I mean, he's always good. There's always gonna be that
sophomore jinks with a guy like this.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
But christ the video.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
After two Smitty, I mean ten home runs in twenty
seven games, but but teams are gonna learn about him.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
But I still think he has that power.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
He does, and everybody's got a book on him even
before he shows up. You know, they don't got to
do here for a year before they figure it out.
Everybody's got a Neil Walker says that the best, and
he says everybody's got a book on him coming out
of high school anymore. I mean there are there are
very little mysteries anymore out there.
Speaker 5 (05:13):
But like, I really think he's right.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
I mean, hey, Mark with ten home runs in eighty
nine at bats, what's that stratomatic part?
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Look like Appa?
Speaker 1 (05:21):
I prefer Appa, But yeah, that would be pretty amazing.
That would be like Marison sixty one. We're talking to
Dave Smith, our baseball guy here on the X one trade.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
I didn't like.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
I didn't get trading a first round pick, that compensatory
pick at thirty four overall for a four A infielder.
I don't see that guy Gonzalez as an upgrade over Triolo.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
No, he's not. You know what, he's not a fielder either.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
I bet he's more of a first baseman than a
middle infielder at all, although he's played all over the infield.
He's a big dude. He might even have some power.
He showed some power in the past. But I don't
I don't get trade. I'm not big on the MLB
draft because sometimes so much of a crap shoot, But
I don't I don't get trading that pick in that
type of a scenario. Really, I just don't get it.
(06:05):
I mean, if the guy shows up to be okay
and he like you see him down the road, is
he going to help him today? Because if he's not
going to be playing short stuff that much because he's
not that great of a fielder. So I'm looking for God,
this team right now has to be doing things.
Speaker 5 (06:18):
To help this team right now, okay.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Because I tell you what you just you just look around.
You know they're leading with in all these statistical categories
right now.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
Now consider this.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Last year twenty twenty five, there was one team that
was number six in batting average and they were sixteenth
in pitching eera.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
And it's like, my god, they were eighteenth and save percentage.
Speaker 6 (06:40):
You know.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
That team was the Los Angeles Dodgers. That's right, the
team that won it all. And the lesson there to
be learned is there's always a random, unquantifiable component to
winning at all, and the Dodgers did have that last year.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
And it's up to the.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Pirates right now, considering they have all these statistical leaders,
particularly on offense, just to find that unquantifiable component.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
It may be O'Hearn's.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Leadership, it may be the leadership of a guy like
Loud because he's a future manager.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
To tell you the truth, Yeah, but I never know
what I think none of that fixes the bullpen.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
I don't think none of that.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
No schemes throw over one hundred and what about that
he didn't even creck ninety eight yesterday?
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Is he pitching the contact?
Speaker 1 (07:23):
I'm embracing that theory more and more like the Pirates
made Garrett Cole did, because he's getting through the occasional
inning faster, like I believe it was seventeen pitches yesterday
over the first two innings.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
There's a school of thought where it's almost the liability
if you have too many pitches.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
If you were a he's got seven pitches around, I.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Think, I think that's stupid. But it's the pitching the contact.
I mean, like last year there was no contact. He
didn't have to fool anybody he could have walked half
way home point and said fastball and they couldn't hit it.
Now he's turned in. Now he's turned into like I
don't know who he's turned into. I mean, he's just
a different pitcher.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
He's trying to be a craftsman out there. Like I say,
when you have that different.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Pictures, Well, well I know I'm not saying that's a
good thing or a bad thing. I mean, like Misowski's
out there firing rear back and fire, like give him
the here, Ricky, I mean all the time, but like,
where's the Miz Now he's like, you know, hurting a
repair his arms?
Speaker 5 (08:18):
He got that?
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Didn't it suck when Mizz didn't pitch yesterday? It was
bait and switch? That matchup was why I bought a ticket.
And I'm the I was the only one there complaining.
I didn't hear a single other person do that. But
I think it sucks because he could pitch.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Yeah, Pat Murphy is a batman's villain. Okay, that's all
he is. I mean, if you know, if you if
you think the Riddler and the Penguin were nasty guys,
that's what Murphy is. I mean, he's gonna get every
advantage he could, and he.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
May have just sat miss right now, just just to.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Give the pirate, just to freak them out a little bit.
I wouldn't be surprised. But then again, he's out there
throwing a hundred all the time, all during the game,
and not everybody's.
Speaker 5 (08:56):
Jacob the Grom. I mean, that's just the way it is.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
So many of the All Stars are skipping the All
Star Game, including mis skens Otani, Judge no Asscraft. I
don't think the power is going to be represented at all.
I mean, why bother having an All Star game?
Speaker 5 (09:12):
Man, if this turns into the NFL Pro Bowl, it's
really gonna be a bad scene.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
It's close to that game now, it really is, isn't it.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
Yeah? Yeah, they're turning.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Uh you got to give you got to kudos to
somebody like Laddy Guerrero who gets elected to play first
base and then decides not to go because he's having
a crappy season. But then at the same time, without Otanians,
if somebody's hurt.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
Legitimately needs the rest, that's one thing. But if it's
one of these things where nay I think I need
a break, No, I don't want to see.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
That he basically wanted a break. Yeah, I mean, I mean,
and that's okay, but then why bother having it.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
MLB's gotta get get ahead of that before it really
turns into a disaster, because you're always been.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
Well, you know, we mark you and I go back
far up before.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
We still have dreams about the nineteen seventy one game
in Detroit, that that famous All Star game then when
everybody was.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Like Reggie Jackson Bath like tower off Docallis Pete Rose
was nineteen seventy when he hit Ray Fosse right.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Yep with Fosse when he ran into Fosse at the
plate and collided with him.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
And I understand it's not the same, Smitty, because you know,
the leagues have inter league play now. Guys get traded,
they move frequently between the leagues. There's not unique matchups.
But but you know, if it doesn't have to be that,
nor should it be a joke, Smitty, what's you feel
right now?
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Well, the Pirates make the playoffs. I feel stronger now
that they have a shot than I had.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
For sure, I think they will make I'll say it
right now, like I say, maybe that big boy sunstroke
I have, but I think they will make the playoffs
and they could get as far as the NLCS.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Smitty, great stuff. As always, we appreciate it. We'll talk
to you next week.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
Thanks Mark, take care.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
That's Dave Smith, our great baseball guy.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
At the bottom of the hour, we got America's most
dangerous baseball writer.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
It is John Parrada. Now up next. When Bayama signed
a deal with San Antonio big extension, it wasn't as
big as it could have been, and some of the
NBA stars reportedly we here are upset with him. Also,
we got Craig Burley ESPN soccer analysts talking about how
(11:23):
don't trust FIFA one five nine y X. It's Madden
on the X.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Wemby signed a big extension with San Antonio and he
took five percent less, so he left like fifty one
mil on the table so the Spurs could build a
better team. There's some ranker about that with some of
the players and with the union because it puts other
stars on the spot when they negotiate. Will other stars
(11:55):
now be expected to take less to help the team?
Speaker 3 (12:00):
I have bod Wemby been doing.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
That offers no guarantee, just ask Sidney Crosby, did the
Pirates have legitimate momentum heading into the All Star Break?
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Second basement Brandon Lott He thinks, so.
Speaker 7 (12:16):
Obviously, anytime as you can take three from a team
like Milwaukee, it's a big win. And you know, I
think it showed everybody in here that this is a
legit team on both sides of the ball, and it
shows that we can do when we play our best game.
I know people are a little fatigued. It's I've been
a long first half, and you know, hope everyone takes
the next couple of days and rests up and just
(12:39):
don't don't forget this feeling.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
I can't fight this feeling anymore. How are these guys fatigued?
Like Laus says, they're playing baseball. It's not like it
takes a lot of effort. What Laos said, that's what
he should say, or any player should say. But we've
seen this before from the Pirates, who are the kings
(13:02):
of the False Dawn.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
You look at just last week.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Ryan O'Hearn hits three homers on Tuesday, and Yahoo the
very next day, Wednesday, Jared Jones pitches six perfect innings
and they somehow lose and lose again on Thursday. I
will never ever trust the pirates when it comes to momentum,
but I do believe the pirates are going to keep
(13:27):
on hitting for what that's worth. Here's Craig Burley on
ESPN saying that nobody at the World Cup should trust FIFA. Well, duh, and.
Speaker 8 (13:40):
That competition is nobody. Nobody can trust FIFA. Nobody. I'm
not accusing him of anything, but I'm saying there's a
lot of best trust, particularly after the Red count Balligan
shamboos that nobody. And that's just what happens when you
rule tulnaments on. You're an organization that basically does what
(14:04):
it wants when it wants. Then it leaves you open
to all these conspiracies when there is a controversial incident
that FIFA will just brush it under the carpet. And
I don't know if it that or not, but they
have brought this conspiracy on themselves.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
What Burley said, that's all right on the money and
suspending the suspension of Balligan and letting him play, which
was absolutely crooked an obvious home team favoritism and involved Trump.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Besides, that opened the door for.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
A lot to be questioned the rest of the tournament,
like the red card against Switzerland for diving. That was
the right call, but it was like, aha, FIFA wants
Messy to win.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
And when the ball hit the wire above the pitch
and England scored and there's no precedent for that, you
heard that was crooked Fifa. Somebody always owes somebody a favor.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
The final four remain as we head to the World

America's most dangerous baseball writer.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
It's John Parada on the.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
X Pirates with the big weekend, joining us now a
talk box. He's America's most dangerous baseball writer. He is
John Parada. John, how much do these three wins mean?
Because we've seen false dawns from the Pirates before, but
this was a as the division leader and pretty convincing.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
It was, and I thought it was a really impressive
way to finish the first staff.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
I mean, you know, they've been taking one.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
Step forward one step backward here for about a month
and a half now, and for them to put three
in a row together against the best team in the division,
I think it's a real good sign heading into the
second half of the season. But I will say with
this caveat, the Brewers looked to me like they were
kind of tired and beat up when they got into Pittsburgh,
and then the doubleheader only help didn't help matters. I
(17:33):
should say on Saturday, they were on eleven game road trip.
They went to Arizona, Saint Louis, and Pittsburgh. They played
two double headers in five days, played three games in
twenty eight hours this weekend, and I don't think the
Pirates got.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
The best version of the Brewers.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
So I'll temper the enthusiasm just a little bit by
adding that caveat to the sweep.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
No fair enough? But why ask why?
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Because the Pirates needed it, And I wonder is that
the parents prove they deserve to get help via trades
by sweeping Milwaukee and and will they get it or
his management already made up its mind one way or
the other.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
No, I think they're still willing to add.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
I just I just don't know the commitment of how
much they're willing to add, or they're willing to go
and get like a big, big player that could really
push them over the top, or they're just fieling a
few gaps here and there and kind of incrementally strengthen
their team.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
And that remains to be seen.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
But I think certainly now of the way they finished
here the first half, and you know, there's still very
much in the thick of wild card race. I think,
even though they picked up three games on the Brewers
over the weekend, I think winning the division is going
to be pretty much unaccomplishable. But uh, yeah, I think
I think as of now, Yeah, I think there'll definitely
(18:52):
be buyers at the deadline.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
It's just a matter of to what degree.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Who were their most likely trade chips, who would they
move out.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
Well, you know, they have like Hunter Barco trip Away,
they have a left handed pitcher, they have you know,
maybe they trade justineson Garcia the password at trip Away,
because all of a sudden it looks like he doesn't
have as much a future as they thought when they
traded for him in The Winner, because whetheras Marilyn Valdez
has done, you know, they have a lot of They
(19:22):
have a guy like a Tamar Johnson. You may not
get a watch for him, but somebody might take a
chance on him to turn his career around.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
He's a trip away.
Speaker 6 (19:30):
Now.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
They don't have a whole whole lot of trade chips,
but they do have enough pitching depth in Trip Away
and Double A that they could at least put together
a decent package for somebody, you know, if nothing else,
for somebody on an expiring contract.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Well, here's what I do JP And as you know,
talk radio is based on yanking bold moves out of
erect him.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
That probably won't ever happen. But would you trade.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Cruise because Val doesn't Mangam given enough in the outfield
with O'Hern and Reynolds, and Cruise would bring re He
wouldn't he?
Speaker 3 (20:01):
He would?
Speaker 4 (20:02):
I mean, you know, he's still a couple of years
away from free agency, and you know there's there's he
undoubtedly has talent. I mean that's with without you know,
everyone knows that it's a matter off. He was motivated
and That's the disappointing part about him getting hurt this
year is he really seemed motivated day in and day
out for the first time, because you know, over the
(20:24):
years and you you saw it, Mark, there'd be days
stretches for a week where he just seemed like he'd
rather be anywhere else, been on the baseball field in.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
And it seems like he's really matured this year.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
He's really he seems happy, seems like he enjoys playing now.
It's almost like he also reminds me of the kid,
like the six' ten kid in high school that hates
sports but feels like he has to play basketball because
he's so.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Tall you know WHAT i.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
MEAN i had a cousin like that many years, ago
and that he hated, basketball but he felt an obligation
to his height to play, basketball if that makes any.
Sense and that's How CRUs kind of reminds me of
in the, past was, WELL i have so much, TALENT
i GUESS i should, play But i'd rather be anywhere
else but. Here but but it changed this year AND
i think he really has grown up a.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Lot and, it's, uh.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
It's just too bad he's been hurt the last couple of,
weeks because you, KNOW i think teams may be just
a little hasn't the trade for him until they see he's.
Healthy but CERTAINLY i think you'd get something for.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
Him no.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
Doubt and, then you, know as a talent as he,
is and the fact that he still can't be a
free agent for a few more, years.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Well my point about making a bold move is people
talk about fixing the. BULLPEN i don't think one arm
fixes the. BULLPEN i think it might require two or possibly.
Three and that ain't gonna be easy to, swing is. It, No,
no they're what they're going to have to. Do IS
i mean they're going to have to at least trade
for one good, Reliever and then they got to hope
(21:54):
that one of these other kids that will shuttled back
and forth from the minorston, majors maybe one of them
starts to click for them and all of a sudden they,
become if not a great, reliever certainly somebody you can
rely one day and Day.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Lejinsky in a higher leverage.
Speaker 9 (22:09):
Role, WELL I i, agree AND i until, yesterday after
talk to some pirates, PEOPLE i found out his arm
is not recovering very quickly from its relief, outings and
they don't feel right now that he's capable of pitching
him back to back days or even in a situation
where you had to hurry up and get him warmed up.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Late in the.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
Game AND i think, they you, know IT'S i thought
they just were being stubborn with. It but it turns
out that there's a there's a physical reason here why
why he's not being used in the late inning some
high leverage.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Situations and interesting that.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
HURTS i almost see that because he's always been a
starter just About, Yeah so let me ask you, This
should he Replace keller in the?
Speaker 4 (22:54):
ROTATION i, THINK i, MEAN i don't know how much
longer you can run Mitche keller out, there to be quite,
Honest AND i know he's, hyped AND i know he's
a big, prospect BUT i don't know how much longer
you can keep Running Bubba chandler out there every fifth
day right? NOW i, mean to, me he has been
a major disappointment this. Year AND i know he's a,
rookie AND i know a lot of rookies go through hard,
(23:14):
times BUT i JUST i, mean if you're trying to
win this, YEAR i think you need to Put magenski
back in the.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
Rotation and you, KNOW i, mean he pitched well this
year as a.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
Starter last, year he absolutely was justified to take him
out of the. Rotation he didn't pitch, well but he
did this, year and he was just a victim of.
Circumstances AND i, think LIKE i, said if you're going
to try to, win they need him in a rotation
because you can't count On keller and you can't count
On chandler And. Majenski at least you, know more often than,
not you're going to get a quality.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
Start skins pitched pretty good, yesterday pitched pretty good to start.
Before but is he ever gonna throw over one hundred
miles per hour? Again And JOHN i had to propose
to me that they're making him pitch to, contact and
that seems more.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Likely do you think that it could?
Speaker 4 (24:03):
BE i, mean maybe they are trying to preserve, him
AND i understand, That but my thought is, this and you,
KNOW i hate to be, mercenary but he's not gonna
be here after next.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Year they're gonna trade him after next. Year wouldn't he
reached back even? Now in certain? SITUATIONS i DON'T i
wonder if he, CAN.
Speaker 4 (24:24):
I, think AND i AND i know they get, defensive
they meet being the pirates WHEN i bring this up
or write, this but it's to, ME i think some
of it or a lot of it might.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
Be The World Baseball Classic and they say.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
No but if you look over the, years, yes now
there's like five, WBCs so you have you, know you
have a certain you, know you have some history now
to look back. On almost everybody it's pitched in THE.
Wbc not, everybody but almost everybody has a downtick that.
Season and he's had a down tick season after pitching IN,
(25:01):
wbc and it's just not normal to ramp up and
as fast as those guys have to do it to
get ready to pitch in a very competitive. Situation AND
i do think it takes a. TOLL i don't think he's.
HURT i don't think he has like a you, know
like a torn ligament or a torn labor him or.
Anything BUT i do think his arms probably just. Tired
(25:22):
he probably just doesn't have. Coils, well he doesn't have
quite as much as hip on his. Fastball then you,
know the radar gun shows. That AND i do think
it's THE. Wbc and why they won't get dressed out
the room or just brush him.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
OFF i don't. Understand we're talking To John parada here
on the X. Jp.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
Uh we mentioned Vald as briefly. Earlier are you bought?
IN i mean it's a short, sample but his power
is real to the naked. EYE i mean he gets
fooled sometimes and still just muscles the ball.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Out he really, does you. KNOW i, mean you know
he did.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
That he had this kind of start In Arizona Fall
league and and you, know and it's it's something to.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
WATCH i mean you look at.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
It but no other player has ever pirate has ever
hit this many homers in the first thirty games of
their major league. Career so this is historic stuff what
he's been doing here these last couple of. Weeks, YEAH
i think he's, legit you, Know but you, Know i'm
always a little. CAUTIOUS i want to see him get
around the league a little more and see how they
adjust to him and how he adjusts.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
Back but, certainly like you, said the raw power is.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
There you don't hit bass four hundred and forty feet
just by the.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
LOT i, mean he has the, power and.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
It'll be curious if you can keep it, up and,
boy if he turns out to be a star, player
that would be a big boost for, them BECAUSE i
think they thought he had a chance to be a decent,
player like maybe above average. Player BUT i don't think
anybody's thought this guy was going to be a. Star
and even in The pirates, organization and certainly to this,
point he looks like he could be a. Star and
(26:55):
when you can devote a power hitter in your own,
organization don't have to pay big bucks for a few
years to have that kind of, power that's huge for
a team that doesn't spend.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Money here's a.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Weird thing from YESTERDAY i thought about BECAUSE i was
at the.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Game they jipped me miss didn't. Start but we'll talk
about that in a. Minute.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
Uh they kept throwing At rhyan, O'Hearn you, know making
him skip rope a little. Bit mostly should The pirates have?
Retaliated that was a big debate among PEOPLE i was sitting.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
BY i, said, no what do you think you, Know
i'm not big into that. ANYMORE I i you, KNOW i.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
Mean the game has, changed AND i think you, know
if you ask schemes to hit, somebody he's probably never done.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
That in his.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
Life you, know you, KNOW i probably never in little,
league never at The Air Force, academy never AT, lsu
never in the big.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
LEAGUES i know he hasn't in the big.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
Leagues and that's hard to, do to ask somebody to
intentionally try to hit.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
Someone AND i don't, KNOW i JUST.
Speaker 10 (27:54):
I just.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
DON'T i have mixed, feelings the old school. Me he, Says,
HEY i should have drilled the first guy. Up, well
here's my here's my, Feeling.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
JOHN i didn't see the need to do, it simply
because then you would have turned potentially a route into
a brawl and maybe schemes winds up at the bottom
of a, pile which you do not. Want if you
feel that strongly about, it do it the next time
you play him to the first.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Batter, absolutely that makes all the sense in the. World,
NOT i.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
AGREE i just, think and especially in a game like,
that like you, said you know you're winning, big why
why instigate? Anything and, YEAH i, yeah you, KNOW i
know you'll you'll have the old school. People And I'm
i'm kind of still a pretty BIG. PA i see the,
point the, POINT i see your. Point, yeah BUT i
definitely see your. Point AND i think that you're. Right
(28:41):
AND i wouldn't have had him throw it anyone yesterday.
Too and if that pisses Off ryan O'Hearn and they
hit her as, well so be, it BECAUSE i, mean
whether you you, know whether it's velocity's down a mile
an hour or two, schemes is still pretty much the
franchise right, now and you don't want to do anything
to put him in.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
Jeopardy didn't it suck when misdy pitch yesterday and you
know he could have you know he could. Have like you,
said they were at a long road, trip AND i
think That murphy probably felt that The brewers' hearts weren't in.
It SO i trot miss out. There but that matchups
WHY i bought a. Ticket it's bait and. Switch and
don't get me, wrong they don't have to keep me.
Happy AND i didn't hear many people, complain but it
(29:20):
happens all the. Time it's very akin To yank And
jones after six perfect, innings.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
Isn't it it?
Speaker 4 (29:26):
Is and you KNOW i got the Inkling Friday friday
afternoon before, well the game eventually got rained, out but
being over in The brewers clubhouse because something was afoot
there that there was at least a possibility that they
weren't going to start him On, Sunday and of, course you,
know they kind of, stonewalled like every tim it's not The,
brewers it's it's every, team and you to a spray
(29:49):
answer and, said, well, no right, now he's our scheduled.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
Starter and But i've.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
Heard that AND i, felt you, know And i'm thinking
that is too bad BECAUSE i know that there had
to be a sizeable number of people when they saw
how it lined up that those two were gonna face,
together they didn't want to step. It, yeah, no, absolutely
and they had thirty four thousand yester or do you
on A? Sunday and you, KNOW i, MEAN i know
they had a postgame concert, after but that can't be
the only reason they nearly sold.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Out it had to be skin schemes of Miss.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Rosky and it's still it's.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
UNFORTUNATE i understand The brewer's.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Part they want to save the guy's arm a little
bit and get him recharged for the second, half but
it didn't.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
Entertainment and you.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
Do have people paying good money to come to the,
game AND i think you do owe the fans to
give them the best, product.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
Especially when you, said and it goes back a month
ago When otani And skeens could have easily pitched against
each other but did. Not and even, worse the worst
EVER jp was last year At detroit When skeens and
scooball pitched opposite ends of the. Doubleheader that's one where
If I'M, MLB i call up the managers and, say
what are you?
Speaker 4 (30:59):
Thinking, well it's like you, wrote there's a sucker born every,
minute and that's How Major League baseball.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Now that's how they look at their, fans and it's.
Speaker 10 (31:09):
Sad every sport does every sport does every. Sport, yeah,
yeah and it's. Sad there's no. Respect it's all about.
Money it's, like my great nephew's ten years. Old he's
a big baseball fan and he's bummed.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Out he can't watch the home Run derby tennight because
he doesn't Have. Netflix SO i totally luckily we do come.
Over yeah, YEAH i, mean here's a ten year old,
kid the type of person you want to have watching
that home run.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
Derby a, kid it's baseball, praise that's the audience before
the home run dirt.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
House and he has to come over to he has
to come over to his aunt and uncle's house to
watch it because you can't watch it on REGULAR.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Tv maybe haven't before the home run derby. Starts, hell
that's the hell of an, idea you.
Speaker 11 (31:51):
Know speaking of, Which, john so many of The All
stars are getching The All Star game, Schemes miss Oh,
Tani Judge.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
ASSCRAFT i don't think there's a pirate rep is? There?
Speaker 4 (32:06):
No, no it's the first TIME i ever. Remember now
they've had guys in the basket name to the team
and have to be replaced because of. Injury but, yeah
they have nobody will be on the active, rosters so
there would Be, yeah they have no.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
One they'll have no one playing the.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Game nobody why bother having the game if all those
guys aren't, Going.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
Well that's the.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
THING i, mean it's to the point now where, none
none of the teams want any of their pictures to
pitch in the.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
Game and you, KNOW i don't know how you solve this.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
DILEMMA i, mean you can't force somebody to do, Something
BUT i mean it is to the point now where
it's basically they're just scrambling to find enough people to, say,
Hey i'm willing to pitch any or two if you
need me that. Day and and that's uh, that it's
just it's just it's, again it's the coggling of. Pictures
it's just the over. Protection AND i get, it they
(32:58):
pay these guys a lot of, money but my, GOODNESS i,
mean it's one. Inning it's not like you're asking somebody
to go out and throw one hundred and twenty eight.
Pitches but that is baseball in two thousand and twenty.
Six my, Friend, oh no.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Question AND i gotta say The pirates winning this, SERIES
i was. Psyched it was a lot of fun to
watch that game yesterday in. Person but they are the
kings of The False, dawn not just this year but
over the last several. Years are you buying into them
making the playoffs right? NOW i, MEAN i think they
gotta make a bold move to make the. Playoffs that,
(33:31):
SAID i think they're one bold move away from FROM
i don't want to say for sure.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
Making, it but you know WHAT i, Mean, YEAH i
think they could make. IT i certainly don't think unlike
most years WHERE i think no chance in. Hell BUT
i don't. Know with the way the roster is currently
constituted as they can make the.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Playoffs so Now i'm with you.
Speaker 4 (33:50):
There they definitely have to make some kind of, move
AND i would hope after with THE i, mean they
did actually step up in The winner and add some,
guys and you, KNOW i need to do it.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Again maybe not.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Three or four, guys but certainly at least that one
difference maker that maybe could push them into.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
It and they gotta make some In haas moves, Too
like we were talking about what to do better With.
Leginski but you know, what they worry about too, MUCH,
Jp and you would know better than.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
ME i think they.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
Worry, okay if we Put maginsky in the rotation in
place Of keller Or, Chandler keller And chandler get, mad.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
And we don't want any be. Mad, Well maginsky was
mad when he got taken.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
Out he got over. All they all get over it,
eventually you. KNOW i, mean it's the big leagues and
you're trying to. Win and if you're mad about, it
well go pout for a while and then.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
Get over it and get back and get your ass
in a bullpen and pitch exact the. WINDOW.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Jp great, stuff as, always enjoy the coverage we'll talk
again real.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
Soon sounds, Good, mark thanks for having, me always good
talking with.
Speaker 1 (34:46):

america's most dangerous baseball, writer not a. Stooge now it's
time to asmark anything which is always a lot of.

us by eighty four Lumber dynasty partner The Pittsburgh. Steelers
get your calls in now eight three three four one two.
Wxx we got a bunch of. TALKBACKS i prefer the
live interaction that phone calls.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
Entail.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
YEAH i think The pirates could make the. Playoffs the
problem IS i think The phillies And cubs are. Locks
so it's a bunch of teams battling for one, spot
and that is kind of like musical, chairs.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
And anybody could get left.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
OUT i think the part is going to make a bold,
move and that's WHY i keep coming back to trading.
Cruise y'all don't want to talk about that, though because
a lot of y'all have cruise. Jerseys you would never
want to trade somebody who's jersey you, have and that's
how people. Are, seriously once you get that, jersey it's
like you've had sex with the. Guy it's like he
gave you the jersey to wear after he banged you
(36:22):
in your, bedroom said, here keep this.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
Souvenir it was. Great.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Bye BUT i trade. Cruise you could get a lot
for cruise and still have plenty in the. Ouckfield now
you'd be gambling That valdez is the real and not SOME.
Jibbroni But i'm willing to do. That i'm willing to
take a. Chance uh what else do we got going?
Speaker 12 (36:44):
On?
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Now let's go To, Peyton, peyton ass mark? Anything WHAT i?
Speaker 13 (36:52):
Mean, hey So i'm just about to, vacation like We're Atlantic, Stape.
JERSEY i just wanted to see if there's any like top. Restaurants,
YEAH i.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Talk about it all the.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Time Chef, Bola Chef bola Vo la is the Best
italian restaurant anywhere in the, world anywhere in the.
Speaker 6 (37:13):

Speaker 1 (37:14):
Okay and there's a Place cafe twenty eight twenty five
That's italian and not far.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
Behind and then There's Doc's Oyster.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
Bar go to those. Three your trip will be. Sublime culinary,
speaking let's go to a.
Speaker 6 (37:26):
Talkback last, Week donovan Criticized policic for pulling himself out
of the, game With donovan saying that you know he'd
have to be dragged out to leave a. Game how
does that translate TO. Tj watt pull himself out of
the games because he needs a break and the. BREATHER
i think a real competitor would stay in the. Game
and Maybe watt's looking for some. Attention look at, Me
(37:48):
I'M i work real, Hard i'm.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Tired, no he's not looking for.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
Attention he likes to sit out a series in the
fourth quarter to keep himself fresh for the.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
End because he's looking for. Stats he's not looking to.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Win he's not looking to gut it, out you, know
by playing out the entire second half in a close.
Speaker 3 (38:05):
Game he needs to sit so he can get stats
and money and.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
AWARDS Tj watt doesn't care about. WINNING i know that
because he never has never want a playoff. Game we
can't ignore that he wants to get stats and money and.
Awards that's WHAT. Tj watt plays football. For that's WHY
Jj watt played, football and the record shows.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
It let's go to a. Talkback, hey what?
Speaker 6 (38:29):
Up?
Speaker 12 (38:29):
MARK i wanted to Talk. Robertson wanted to see if
he thought it would make sense just to wait and
try to sign him unrestricted next. YEAR i know he
might not want to come, here but at the same,
time a year from now might look. Different you, know
it's more than just kindle chinakof they have, got you,
Know brunick Merrage. OFF i mean things could look different
(38:49):
next offseason might be more intriguing for.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
Him what do you think of? THAT i wouldn't have
to give up.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
Anything i'll tell you WHAT i. THINK i think these
talkbacks are way too. Long make your point in like fifteen.
Seconds nobody on the radio to hear, you. Tak it's
the me, show not THE u, show and NOW i
forgot what the question.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
Was can they Get?
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Robertson, YEAH i mean, maybe although if he gets to
unrestricted then it's highest binner time next year and The
penguins won't get, him will not get, HIM i don't.
KNOW i still have this sneaky feeling they might yet
get him via trade this. Year i'd hate to give
Up kendall in a, deal, though AND i keep hearing
that you have to give up a lot more Than.
Kendall BUT i think you're defeating certain purposes if you
(39:26):
trade your best twenty one your best nineteen year, old
no matter how Good robertson, IS i think you're defeating certain.
Purposes let's go To. Roddington, roddington Ask mark, anything what up?
Speaker 3 (39:40):
Mine?
Speaker 9 (39:42):
Hey, Mark i'm from watching The england.
Speaker 4 (39:44):
Game do you Think Jude bellingham's the only one keeping
them alive right?
Speaker 5 (39:49):
Now?
Speaker 3 (39:49):
No kine.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
TOO i, Mean kane didn't have a blinder Against, norway
But kine's been Brilliant Besides bellingham And, cain though you tell,
Me i'm hard pressed to say who's played. Well pickford
let up a soft goal or, two and he's usually
a bullwark for them between The. STICKS i don't think
their defense is but particularly. Good Declan. Rice he got
(40:10):
hurt last, game Decland rice has played pretty. Well who's
the kid that city got?
Speaker 3 (40:15):
From what's his? Name he's done?
Speaker 1 (40:18):
Okay he's not okay, Too although IF i Were, ENGLAND
i wouldn't be playing two defensive, midfielders which is basically
How tuckle is Deploying rice And.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
Anderson so Who anderson played for last?
Speaker 5 (40:31):
Year?
Speaker 3 (40:31):
Again was It? Bournemouth not Even? Forests?
Speaker 12 (40:35):
Oh he is the got a.
Speaker 5 (40:37):
Record see he's the highest most Expensive english.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Player, Ever believe it or.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
NOT i think one hundred and.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
Forty that's just cause of an.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
Inflation i'd rather spend my money on some fuzzy little
foreigner rather than you, know An english guy at one.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Forty let's go to a talkback.
Speaker 14 (40:53):
Super Genius good day Military Mike, here quick question for.
You have you ever seen The nobody And Nobody too
movies with the better Call saul Actor Bob, Odenkirk and
if you, have what did you think of the? Movies thank?
Speaker 13 (41:05):
You.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
Both nobody movies are absolutely, brilliant the first a little
bit more than the, second although the second was good
because Of Sharon stone as lead, heel a role we've
not seen her Inbea Odin kirk is an action.
Speaker 3 (41:19):
Hero it sounds, Crappy it sounds, dumb don't. It it's.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
Not it's really, really, really really. Good so check out
those nobody movies and get more calls. In because we
Fired Tom, so we can't talk to. Him we haven't
talked him all. Day i'm beginning to run out of
