Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Rice.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
What's going out of our good friend the Hebrew hammer
hammer yuck, shamash.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Jack shamash mark. The offense was very weak throughout the series.

Speaker 4 (00:14):
Yes, last night they dominated.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
They had a lot of shots on, but none of
them seemed like really good opportunities. They weren't.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
I disagree with that.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Gino missed an early opportunity, should have scored on, Rust
got robbed China, Kopf and Novak both hit the post.
And the big problem offensively was they weren't getting to
the net. They weren't getting deflections or rebounds.

Speaker 5 (00:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
I don't think there was a rebound all series.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Was there a rebound goal? That's a good question, but
I started, sure, don't remember one. Oh first game, I
want to say Malkin rebonded a quel shot. But yeah,
the fact that there was one and I can remember
it does not speak well.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Yeah, and when you look back, obviously not comparing these
teams to the Cup teams, when you see those Cup teams,
it was just rebound after you could see the difference
between a Cup team and a first round team that
goes out. I mean, they just weren't ready. They just
weren't there. It'll be interesting to see what happens when
Philly stacks up against the Hurricanes and they're supposedly a

(01:19):
team that's ready to win a cup. But yeah, the
offense was weak.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Now my question, let me let me interrupt.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Though I wouldn't say they weren't ready hammer, I just
think they're old. I think the flyers, like like Carlson
talked about, they had that extra gear and the Penguins
did not.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah, I kind of thought that all along, and I
called your show about a week ago. I'd like to
see some of those guys like Majroorty. You gotta bring
him up and see what he can do.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
And yeah, you gotta find out though that that's a
good point.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
But yeah, I mean, you know what's funny.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
I said before the series that the Penguins experience would
would win on. I predicted them to win in in
in six and it took me about a peer eve
to have to say, Okay, I'm wrong. This is a
lot harder than I thought it would be, and the
experience for the Penguins too much translated into just being old.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
I mean you when you ask fans, is the time
to move on? What I think about fans when it
comes to the Penguins is I don't know if we
know how to move on. It's been twenty years of this, oh, no.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Long longer than that. Longer than that.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
We've had arguably the best player in the league NonStop
since nineteen eighty four.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Yeah, we're stuck like on a treadmill or like a
hamster wheel. And I don't think our brains can even
like compute like start over, start over, start over. We
don't know how to We don't know how to do that.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
That's your cue. Excellent whammy.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Uh, let's go to uh Jeff in Virginia. Jeff, you're
on with double M what on my?

Speaker 6 (02:51):
What up?

Speaker 2 (02:51):
My?

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:54):
I would say, just based off the age factor that
you just alluded to, I would say the biggest down
was the power play. You know it just when you're
playing again.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Not the biggest, but a factor, no question.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
I think there were only four power plays all last
night though, Like that's the one thing that debate has
always been, Jeff, because there's fewer penalties in the playoffs,
and there certainly were in this series. That the power
play either means less because there's less chances or more
because converting them means more. I'm not sure which is correct.

(03:28):
I would think it means more. But yeah, the Penguin's
power play, I think it was three for seventeen or
three for eighteen, and just as important when it failed,
it it actually gave the Flyer's momentum the fly I
bet the Flyers had more shorthanded chances than the Penguins
had power play chances on at least half those power plays.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Right, And I think the big thing too, And that's
the big thing with bring a balcon back. He's a
huge detriment to that power play. And we talk about
his skating. His shot has made it bad. He cannot shoot,
and he and he.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Knows that, Jeff, he has no faith in it, like
you see.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
That's the thing that's my biggest argument against bringing him back.
Even I would concede him like the second line left
wing spot, you know, with Chinakoff and whoever. Maybe kindall
should move there. But I can't put him on the
top power play. And he would absolutely expect to be
on the top power play and be pissed if he wasn't,
and be a problem if he wasn't.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Quite honestly, thank you for the call. Let's go to
Dawn and Bethel Park.

Speaker 7 (04:31):
Don I think depends downfall. To answer your first question,
was the severe lack of appreciation for how good the
Flyers blue line is.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
O Jeah, I don't know about I don't know about that.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
My appreciation for their blue line extends to Sandheim and
Risk the line and who were matched against the sid line.
They both did brilliantly. The rest of them they were okay.
I mean, I think the Penguins defense played better than
the Flyers defense vents for the last I don't know,
three four games, much better, agreed, But it.

Speaker 7 (05:05):
Wasn't at all like twenty twelve, when it was just
a circus with ten eight you know, nine to seven
games and all that craziness. It it was just a
defensive No.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
That's a real good point.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Although it is odd, isn't it that the timeline of
this series followed exactly the timeline of that series. Philly
wins three, Pittsburgh wins two, Philly wins one. But you're right,
the scores were much higher. I think this was better hockey.
I think this was a better series, don't you.

Speaker 7 (05:30):
Yes, But what I liked about it is I felt
like we could win because in that twenty twelve season,
when Drew came out and laid that big hit on Sid,
I thought, ah, this were in trouble. But as the
game went on, I thought, Ooh, I think the Pens
might get this one.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
But I tht drew hit didn't impress me at all.
Who'd he ever beat? There were hits like that administered
in this series. I thought the Penguins could win then.
I think if that hadn't been Flowers, one huge, horrible
blow up series, I think the Penguins had the better
team then, and I'm not sure they didn't have the
better team.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Now let's go to og.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Hey, Mark, what up in the history of the Pens
in Crosby and Malkin right.

Speaker 5 (06:17):
On two on ones? I mean, how many times do
you not score?

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Well, no, it's my complain about them on two on
ones is they too often forced the pass to be unselfish.
Although last night on the two on one, Geno did
take the shot, just didn't score.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
And you got to score there.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
If you're Evgeny Mankin, a five hundred plus career goal scorer,
that's a nailed on opportunity in a big situation. And
uh again that didn't speak well for bringing them back.

Speaker 7 (06:48):
Another thing, Another thing too, I.

Speaker 6 (06:50):
Feel like a lot of our guys were.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
Shooting the puck one hundred, just blasting it, blasting it,
lasting missing than that.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Do you mean do you mean just last night or
on the series?

Speaker 5 (07:06):
In the series?

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Yeah, I thought that was more prevalent last night, Brov.
But yeah, I mean I think Chinakoff was guilty that.
I think he might have been a little overamped and
shot wide because of it. But but yeah, I mean
they did get forty two shots on goal last night.
That's a lot of shots on goal. I think they
also shot thirteen wide and got thirteen blocked. But the
bottom line is they did not score. Let's go to

(07:30):
Rick and Brighton Heights.

Speaker 8 (07:32):
Hey, Mark, I just thought last night was the best
hockey game of the series. As far as the thuggery
on both sides.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Well, and there was no thugger, There was no There
was no thuggery on the Penguin sides except by way
of initiated by Philadelphia and retaliated by Pittsburgh. I'm not
going to tolerate that nonsense like it was a two
way thing, like the stooge Flyers.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Media is trying to present.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
But the reason there was less thuggery was because the
Flyers never led in any of the last three games
until the overtime goal last night. And when you when
you trail or are tied, and especially later in the series,
when the other team is mounting a comeback, it's harder
to do that stuff.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
It's less advisable.

Speaker 8 (08:15):
Yeah, and I thought, I also thought, and I never
thought I'd seen on him, But to see that extra
gear out of se laws, I never knew he really
had that game in him. What did you know that
that level of a game.

Speaker 9 (08:28):
What did you think of his performance?

Speaker 2 (08:31):
It was almost like latvie against some other small European nation.
He plays great for Latvia, he played great. Is that
a harbinger of the future? I hope so. I think
Morishoff and Shiloffs could be a formidable tandem and could
be a Penguin strength. I hate to read too much
in the way Shiloffs played these last three games, but
he did come on strong. The only thing that guy

(08:53):
got to work on his consistency. The talent is there.
Thank you for the call, all right, we got a
whole bunch more calls lined up. Jake Jeremy, David and
Collin stay on hold. We'll get to you in just
a second. We got Josh Showey at the bottom of
the hour at one o five to.

Speaker 6 (09:06):
Ninety're off and happy, but they have no real impact
in this world, unless, of course, they're good enough to
make the NFL.

Speaker 9 (09:14):
D ex at one O five nine.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
I just want to restate that the Penguin's got to
play young guys next year. You want to bring malcolmback, Okay,
you can't bring a Charrye back. You probably if you're
gonna bring Malcolm back, don't bring Door back.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
You gotta make spots for coyven and.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
McGroarty, Avery Hayes, you know the names. And I admit
that coyvan and McGroarty didn't look great in their NHL
time this year. But Columbus gave up too early on
Chinakough because they never.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Put him in his proper role and found out.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
And he come here and he's a star despite my
scoring against the Flyers in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
But you get my point.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
You gotta know, and you can't keep patchworking with veterans.
You can't build on old uh.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Let's go to David, David dromand Mark, Hey.

Speaker 5 (10:09):
Mark as for taking my call.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Hey, I just wanted to ask you about that icing
call there whenever, essentially, the refs gave Philly an extra
time out.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
I mean yes, when they were debating who was on
the ice correct?

Speaker 5 (10:22):
Yeah, I mean Zecris left the ice.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
Yeah, no, I get it, But I mean, don't get
me wrong. It was crap, But the refereeing last night
was better than it was most of the series. And
that did not lose the game.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
No, no, it didn't.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
I was just wondering today it called a delay a
game on that.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
No, no, no, no, no no no. I mean I'm
grateful when the referee doesn't stink, and it didn't last night.
But in general, NHL officiating is the worst in any sport,
and last night that moment was a small microcosm, but
really the only one of the evening.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Let's go to Colin.

Speaker 10 (10:59):
Hey, Mark, Yeah, you know, I'm obviously fired up about
you know, last night, but I just want to know,
if you know I'm Kyle du Boston, I'm sitting across
you right now, what do you say to him?

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Well, first off, if you were, if you were Kyle Dubas,
should pronounce your own name correctly.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
What do you mean? What would I say?

Speaker 2 (11:15):
I mean, I think Kyle and I are probably on
the same page with a lot of this stuff. I mean,
i'd tell him to probably not bring Malkin back. I
tell him to bring Shay back. I tell him to
keep his pursuit of a young, young NHL already player
in trade. Like I'm sorry Meetchkoff played good last night.
I think that if he continued to falter for Philadelphia,
that would be a guy I'd try to get. But

(11:38):
my point is Kyle has a plan in place, and
I like the plan.

Speaker 10 (11:44):
Well, hopefully the plan works out for us, cause I mean,
I don't know. I think a lot of us longtime
Penn fans like kind of hop and see Gino. Maybe
go when his trade value is a little higher. And
you know, Kyle's been around.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
A couple Yeah, now there's no trade value because he's
a free agent. It just is what it is. I mean,
I'd have traded him in twenty eighteen. But then again,
I said I would have traded him in twenty fourteen,
and thank god they didn't.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
Thank you for the call. Let's go to Jake Kello.

Speaker 9 (12:07):
Jake put up Doublem.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
What up, Jake.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
Yeah, So I think one of the reasons they lost
this series wasn't for a lack of chances, but their
shot selection. Like one trend I saw is they were
shooting high on Vladar from further out and shooting low
on him from in tight when really did the opposite.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
I agree, And they never put the pucks in his feet,
never got second chances. You're you're totally right. There's a
lot of things that went to them not scoring well,
actually only scoring eleven goals in six games. But what
you're describing as one of them, I didn't see the
wisdom and trying to blow the puck over a six
foot five goalie shoulder.

Speaker 11 (12:49):
No, And yeah, I think the one time they did
it last night was the quasi two on one with
Maulkin and he shot at far pad and the rebound
went out, just came out too hot for second opportunity.

Speaker 5 (13:01):
But yeah, they were shooting too high from far out.
When Russ and Manta do their moves and tight like
those work on some smaller goals. When you've got a
guy who's six', five, like the reach around isn't gonna
work most of the.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Time BUT i like a good reach. Around but BUT
i don't. KNOW i Mean, RUSTY i thought made a great.
Move rusty went went horizontal on and made the. Goal
we hit the deck and he got his pad out and.
Over SO i don't. Know i'm not gonna Fault rusty for.
MISSING i am gonna Fault manta for. Missing i'm gonna
fall chinakof for shooting wide all the. Time But lagar

(13:32):
played really. Well let's go To. Jeremy, jeremy you're on With.

Speaker 12 (13:35):
Mark, Hey, mark well the.

Speaker 9 (13:37):
Show thank.

Speaker 12 (13:38):
You besides obviously the power, PLAY i think one of
the biggest things THAT i saw throughout the series is
With tacket coaching very. Well besides the fourth. Line anytime
you make those top couple lines dump and, chase it
was always not enough speed in neutral zone or.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Well that that, said the dumping and chasing work did
Spread philadelphia's defense at the blue line and afforded The
penguins more and more entries as the series went.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
On could M news have been ready for it? SOONER
i don't.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Know maybe the playoffs are always an evolving. FORM i,
mean things. Change it's about adjusting and counter. PUNCHING i
think The penguins did very well dumping the. PUCK i
thought they put it in in places where they could
win the. Battles they dumped it, soft they dumped it.
DIAGONAL i have no complaint with how they played AFTER
i don't, know the first game and a, half maybe.

Speaker 12 (14:27):
Two, YEAH i just feel like they when they were
coming through the neutral zone with, speed the dump was
late and it just led to a lot of quick.
Exits the fourth line did a great job with, it
BUT i feel like the top two lines just didn't
have a timing rate on.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
It, NO i think they did as the series went,
on they just didn't. Score and if they don't, score
then what's the. Difference let's go To. Dick, dick you're
on with DOUBLE.

Speaker 5 (14:48):
M who doesn't love a good reach?

Speaker 11 (14:52):
Around but any, right regarding the, icing it's like the
mere act of putting another guy on and then the
ref having to take them off from.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
The, well, yeah you're blowing that up too. Much who? Cares?

Speaker 11 (15:05):
Well, okay BUT i just want to say THAT i
think if a.

Speaker 5 (15:08):
Guy is hurt or, whatever then you should play.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
Five on four for. Five did you miss the part
WHERE i said who? Cares anything? Else reach? Around good finish.

With Josh shoey next one oh five to. Nine this
playoff season, happy but they have no real impact in this, world.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Unless of, course they're quick enough to make THE nfl
d exit one oh five Nine penguins.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Eliminated last, Night time to talk hockey with our Pal
Josh shoey from The Athletic. Josh let's cut right to
the off season. Debate we'll get to the series in
a moment. Bit what would you do with F Geny
malkin and what do you Think Kyle dubis plans to do?

Speaker 8 (17:12):
Well?

Speaker 6 (17:13):
MARK i was told last summer that it was very
unlikely That dubas was going to Bring malkin. Back malcin
certainly exceeded expectations during the, season and he deserves credit for.
That he also was pretty much a non factor in this,
series AND i would think That dubas probably saw. That
my guess is that he will not be, back AND

(17:34):
i certainly have all the respect in the world From,
bulkin AND i still think he's a good.

Speaker 9 (17:39):
PLAYER i probably would not bring him.

Speaker 6 (17:41):
Back you can make an argument in either, direction but
if you're trying to build a championship, team if you're
trying to bring in a young wave of, PLAYERS i
don't see what the point is in bringing him back
other than this and Making sid, happy you, know and
then those are those are nice enough. Things but if
you're really looking to turn things, over bringing a young

(18:01):
wave to actually build toward a championship team and not
just one that can make the playoffs like this, YEAR
i don't see the point in bringing a forty year
old guy.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
Back, okay let me let me Play devil's advocate BECAUSE i.
Agree but you wouldn't just be doing it For sid
the fans. WANTED i don't think there's any question about,
that and this is a franchise that needs to sell.
TICKETS i think ten percent of capacity was empty seats this.
Year the REASON i, wouldn't, though is you could never
put them on third. Line he wouldn't accept, it the

(18:32):
culture in the locker room wouldn't accept, it and he
doesn't have the skill set Like trotier. Did and more,
important while he's not blocking anybody at center Like kendall
because he moved a, wing he would be blocking somebody
on the power. Play he killed the power. Play he
was a disaster for most of the, season and in
this series on the power, play And kendall And chinakov

(18:54):
both need to be ON pp one and he would
block them from.

Speaker 6 (18:57):
That, NO i think he probably. Wouldn't, yeah he doesn't
make any sense in the bottom six. Role that's just
not who he. Is and he's just such a big
personality on and off the ice that it's hard to
place him in a minimal. Role and, listen he can still,
play and if they brought him, BACK i would not
be critical of. It he certainly was better this season

(19:19):
THAT i. Anticipated but when you bring up all the
things we've mentioned and the fact that he gets hurt a,
lot it's not like you're going to be getting eighty
four games out of him next.

Speaker 9 (19:27):
Year AND i don't know how he would hold up
if he did.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Play they're eighty four games next.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
Year, Yes, oh for heck's, sake he, said thinking of
the other.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
Word, Okay, no you're right about all of.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
That he won't be better at forty than he wasn't thirty,
nine AND i would not bring him. BACK i like,
YOU i won't be outraged if they. DO i bet
they do bring him, back even Though kyle won't want.
To the new owner won't want to be the bad
guy and should want him, back the fans want him.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
BACK i bet that's just how that.

Speaker 9 (19:55):
Goes it wouldn't shock.

Speaker 6 (19:57):
Me and, listen there's plenty of reasons to bring him,
back and you're right from a from a business, standpoint
it does make. Sense it absolutely. Does BUT i would
also say, this If Kyle dubas wants to take a
bick swing this, summer if he wants to really change
this roster and try to get a young, star that
that might change things. Too we have to take that

(20:18):
into the equation because only he knows what his real
big picture plan.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
Is right, now here's what would be a deal breaker
from me WHERE i would say it would be. Stupid
AND i know you've heard too whispers That tino wants
a two year.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
Deal that would be. Absurd you cannot give him term
longer than, sin, Right?

Speaker 9 (20:37):
OH i, mean that's.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
That's so, simple just because a one word. Answer and
the other thing IS i would bet on him going
To philly if he's. Available would that deter?

Speaker 9 (20:47):
You would?

Speaker 5 (20:49):
You?

Speaker 9 (20:49):
Really?

Speaker 6 (20:50):
YEAH i don't know if he would go to PHIL
i mean, no but it wouldn't he term?

Speaker 9 (20:55):
ME I i, mean, well.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
Well josh tamp is not gonna want, Him ford is
not gonna want. HIM i know he lives In, florida
but they don't care about none of. That And i'm
pretty Sure philly would take. Him they would see him
as a guy who could help a winning culture build,
well AND i know he.

Speaker 9 (21:10):
Likes rick talking a.

Speaker 6 (21:11):
Lot SO i guess to, me If I'm Kyle, DUBAS
i can't worry about that kind of. Stuff And dubas
is trained to not worry about that kind of. Stuff
he just wants to build The Pittsburgh. Penguins so the
fans wouldn't like it if something like that, happened, obviously
BUT i it wouldn't deter me that, much AND i
Don't i'm curious to see What malcolm would. DO i

(21:32):
know he doesn't want to. RETIRE i know he doesn't
want to play anywhere. Else that makes things really difficult for,
him AND i understand. THAT i just here's my big
picture thing with, him And i'll throw a crystal tig
in there. TOO i have all the respect in the
world for both of. Them, yeah the two are never gonna.
Quit they're gonna have to be pulled to go.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Away well that's.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Right if you Give malkin one more, year he's gonna
want one more, year and then one more year after.
That so all you'd be doing is kicking the can
of the problem down the. Road by the, Way, JOSH
i texted back and forth with talk this, MORNING i
felt like The french signing the surrender in the railroad
car of the other Unrestricted who would you and not bring?

(22:12):
Back the LIST i have Is, malklin who we've discussed
shade door At Charie clifton manthis solely off In Skinner.

Speaker 6 (22:19):
Well at the top of my, HEAD i would Bring
Ryan shaye. BACK i think he's a really good third
pairing defenseman and a great guy in the locker. ROOM
i see no reason not to bring him, back as
long as you get him at a reasonable. Price let's be,
Honest mantha is is the guy everybody wants to talk,
about and he did not do himself any.

Speaker 9 (22:39):
FAVORS i don't think he'll be.

Speaker 6 (22:42):
BACK i think somebody will pay him way too much, money.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
Although he did cost himself money by not scoring in this.

Speaker 6 (22:48):
Series not just by not, scoring but just the way he.
PLAYED i, mean he didn't look like a guy who
was running through a wall to win a playoff, game
and that's always been the knock on. HIM i don't
think a charge he will be, back even though man
did he have a good series and a good.

Speaker 9 (23:04):
SEASON i have a lot of.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
Resis, yeah don't.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Matter he's starty four and you need to create bottom
six spots for the.

Speaker 6 (23:08):
Kids and that's gonna Be Avery hayes probably in that
spot next, year as it should. Be i'll tell you
what really impressed. ME i Thought Connor doer played the
game of his life last. Night he was, unbelievable AND
i would probably bring him. Back you don't want him
blocking younger, guys but he's only twenty.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
Six yeah, no, no that's that's the difference maker for
bringing him. Back you know WHAT i would, DO i
would put together on, paper WOULD i think my bottom
six is for next, year and IF i have five,
GUYS i Put Connor doers the.

Speaker 1 (23:39):
Sixth yeah that's.

Speaker 6 (23:41):
FINE i, mean and he's not gonna be making so
much money that he'll really be blocking, anybody, right you, know,
right if somebody else In wolfsbury's ready to surpass, him that's.
Okay so the guy who's making a couple million, bucks,
SIS i, MEAN i think he's earned a role AND
i think he knows how to be a bottom six,
player and The penguins have had enough of those guys

(24:01):
over the, years SO i think it makes a lot
of sense to bring him.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Back, well AS i said, Earlier, josh The penguin's fourth
line was their best line and that was a big
part of the. Problem we're talking To Josh joey from
The athletic here on one oh five to nine THE x.

Speaker 1 (24:17):
Just just quick.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
Housekeeping, No chinakoff's, restricted but he ain't going, nowhere, Right.

Speaker 6 (24:22):
Oh, NO i mean he's a building block for. THEM
i know he didn't have a great, series but that
they are, very very pleased with him in.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
General you, know you know what could cost The penguins
some money, Though, josh he's not restricted for going to
the k and that's his home. COUNTRY i, mean he
could present that as an option by way of.

Speaker 9 (24:41):
Negotiation, no it's, True AND i will say one thing for.

Speaker 6 (24:45):
Him if you want to talk about the pros of
Bringing malkin, back those two are really good together And
ginakov's really comfortable playing With. Malkin that certainly would be
one reason to Bring gino back for another. Year But,
CHINIKOV i, know didn't have a great, series AND i,
think by the, way that's because he scores most of
his goals on the, rush and The flyers just maybe

(25:08):
gave up four or five out man rushes all. Series
that just made it really difficult for him to create.
Offense not an excuse they needed to play. Better but,
nonetheless he's a guy they really.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Like. SEE i would put assuming The, Crosby, Rustin rikeller all,
Back AND i don't Think kyle's going to trade any
of those.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
Guys Are carlson to.

Speaker 6 (25:26):
You, unlikely anything's, Possible BUT i would put money on
them all.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
Beait that's the kind of thing where you could trade
them at the deadline if it came to. That But,
Machina coff And kin will need to play. TOGETHER i
think they need to look at that as trying to
groom them as a long term.

Speaker 6 (25:40):
Combination, NO i think that makes a whole lot of,
sense and they like playing together in the brief times
that they. Have and by the Way i've SEEN i
shouldn't look at social, media seen people Giving Ben kendall
a hard.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
Time, yeah, me me.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
TOO i orinated all over, that both on the show
and On. Twitter this, kid he's the future. Captain he
leaves his heart and soul out. There by the end
of the, SEASON i bet he was a buck sixty
bucks sixty. Five he looked like a sponge that got
wrong out and he kept playing two hundred.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
FEET i, MEAN i think the kid's.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
Amazing let me tell, you he's nineteen years, old and even,
now there's very few in that locker ROOM i respect.

Speaker 6 (26:18):
More he's a special young player who helps you on THE,
pk on the power. Play he's going to be probably
a great second line. Center and he was actually really
good last. Night he almost won the game in. OVERTIME
i thought he played a really good. Game like you,
said he's. Exhausted if you add up the, preseason, postseason regular.
Season he played eighty seven games this, year.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
And that's where the season went. Wrong in a. Way
they were supposed to load manage.

Speaker 9 (26:42):
Him.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
Yea once they went eight two and, two it was
all hands on deck AND i get, that but a
lot of, development all the development in, fact got sidetracked
by starting eight too and.

Speaker 9 (26:53):
Two oh it. Did and you know he was supposed
to be on a. Pitch county played eighty seven.

Speaker 6 (26:58):
Games they obviously did not handle The Harrison brunnock situation.
Well but anybody who's Giving Ben kendall a hard, time,
like give me a break that this. Kid and by the,
way last night in the locker room and a lot
of the veterans ran out before they had to deal
with the.

Speaker 9 (27:10):
Media for what it's, worth Benk kendall sat there and
just took.

Speaker 6 (27:13):
It and we were asking about the icing infraction that
led to the face off In philly, territory and he
just sat there and took it like a person who's
much older than he.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
Is you, know you know, what you know what is
bad about? That what happened with him last? Night he
is so. Serious it'll take him a while to shake this.
OFF i know he really. Is he is so.

Speaker 9 (27:33):
DEDICATED i don't want to compare him To. Sid there's
only One, sid but there are.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Some, no he's a LOT i said, EARLIER i Think
ben will be the captain someday and he's not the
player sid, is but in some ways he's the air to.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Sit he's very.

Speaker 9 (27:47):
Similar, oh he's just so serious about.

Speaker 6 (27:50):
WINNING i, mean it's you can just see that there's
an intensity about, him even though he's shy and. Quiet
he had a wonderful season and he's got to be
running on. Fumes anybody who's blaming him for anything that
happened last night doesn't know a whole lot about.

Speaker 1 (28:04):
Hockey chilloffs was.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
Great do you think that him turning a corner moving
forward or do you think it's just three good, Games
because ideally he And morrishoff would make a great goaltending.

Speaker 6 (28:16):
Tandem they're, intriguing And i'll tell you he showed me
something these two games or three. Games she loves has
always had that reputation for being a big game. Goaltender
we know about his international, history we know about what
he did For vancouver and the, playoffs winning THE Ahl
championship last, season and you saw it in the.

Speaker 9 (28:37):
Playoffs he rises to the occasion in big. Games he absolutely.
Does he has. Talent he's only twenty. Five he's AN rfa.

Speaker 6 (28:44):
Too it won't cost that much money to bring him,
Back AND i would think you're. RIGHT i think he
And miroshov probably are the odds on favorite to be
the two goaltenders In pittsburgh next.

Speaker 9 (28:55):
Season and why wouldn't you?

Speaker 6 (28:57):
Want she loves, back AND i can tell you even
though everybody Likes skinner the, person and he didn't play poorly,
here BUT i know the coaching staff feels like she
loves as a guy who has a much higher ceiling Than,
skinner who's also an unrestricted free, AGENT i don't see
him coming back at this.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
Point where was this series, Lost? JOSH i, mean to,
me it was. Simple The penguin just couldn't score eleven
goals in six. Games one was a, fluke one was
an empty.

Speaker 9 (29:21):
Net, no that's all it.

Speaker 6 (29:23):
Is AND i would specifically take it back to just
how poorly they played in the first two. Games you're
not gonna win a series very often when you lose
the first two at, home and The, penguins for whatever,
reason looked out of sync and unprepared in those two.
GAMES i thought they looked fine the rest of the.
SERIES i, mean it was kind of low event hockey,
games BUT i thought games three through six they were

(29:43):
probably the better, team albeit, slightly but they were just
so bad in those first two, games AND i don't
know if it was the ten day. LAYOFF i don't
know if it was over. CONFIDENCE i Don't maybe you
just Give philly a lot of credit for what they,
did BUT i you know that they lost the.

Speaker 9 (29:59):
Series he's in those two.

Speaker 6 (30:00):
Games we pretty much knew that the odds were very
much against them after The game two.

Speaker 2 (30:04):
LOSS i give the defensive core credit for how they
played last, night especially and really the whole. Series after
the first two, GAMES i Thought tanger was The penguin's
best player in the, series And i'm not sure how
much he has left in the tank moving, forward BUT
i think he should have shut a lot of critics.
Up and, again the five guys who played regular even
solely off in his limited, MINUTES i thought really did,

(30:27):
well and especially with the puck moving it.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
OUT i.

Speaker 9 (30:31):
Agree i've been hard on The tang this, year BUT
i give him.

Speaker 6 (30:34):
Credit he got it, together especially in the last three
or four games of this yearies he was.

Speaker 9 (30:38):
Outstanding is the best hockey we've seen from him in
a long.

Speaker 6 (30:41):
TIME i think that speaks to his character and his
pride and how much winning means to, him AND i
Thought gerard was a lot better. Too he's an Adventure
but those two cut it. Together they played huge, minutes
and they played really well the last couple of games
of this. Series, carlson we, know was great all year And.
MARK i would be remiss IF i did not Mentioned Parker,
watherspoon WHO i thought was outstanding this whole. SERIES i, mean,

(31:04):
man how good was he for a million dollars a? Year,
well what an investment you get him for another year
at that? Rate I'd sid. PLAY i thought he was
probably dinged. UP i thought his, energy you, know his
acceleration came and fits and, starts as you figure with
somebody dinged.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
Up and one.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
CRITICISM i have a muse and maybe the only. One
he never tried to avoid The sid versus Wrist A
lining And sanahai.

Speaker 9 (31:31):
Matchup oh not at. ALL i Thought sid was.

Speaker 6 (31:34):
OKAY i have no doubt he's not one hundred. Percent
you don't just carry YOUR mcl and come back and
feel yourself the rest of the. Season BUT i also
think at his, age he's just not going to take
over a playoff series the way he could have fifteen years.
Ago and it's not realistic to expect. It thought he was.

(31:55):
GOOD i actually thought he got better as the series went.
ON i thought he was really good last two. Games
he's still a great. Player he's not the best player
in the world. Anymore he's going to need some help
if The penguins are going to be a championship team
with him.

Speaker 9 (32:08):
Here that's just the way it.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
IS i thought a big problem within my, Scoring, josh
was nobody went to the. Net you wrote about that
at The athletic and it was striking how little traffic they.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
Got and all the more ironic.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
That the that The flyers won the game when exactly
the kind of goal you'd figure that game would be
decided on through.

Speaker 9 (32:29):
Traffic, well i'll tell you WHAT i was truck.

Speaker 6 (32:31):
BY i asked a couple of guys after the, game
one of whom Was Ryan, shay who's a defensive defenseman
of all. People BUT i asked him why he thought
they didn't score, more and he specifically, said we have
a lot of big guys who scored goals around the
net during the, season but they weren't doing it in the,
playoffs which only made me think Of Anthony. Mantha so
that was the first person that not just, Him.

Speaker 9 (32:54):
No not at.

Speaker 6 (32:54):
All but, no it was very clear they did not
get to the inside against The flyers. Series they did
not get in front of the net. Enough it was painfully,
obvious in. Fact AND i don't know if it was
a lack of desire or if The flyers were just
bigger and. Stronger and maybe The penguins need to consider
that when they're putting their roster together in future.

Speaker 9 (33:15):
Seasons about. It but, no there's. Good, oh there's just no.

Speaker 6 (33:20):
Question they they tried to score too much on the.
Perimeter they got too. Cute that stuff doesn't happen in
the playoffs against good defensive.

Speaker 9 (33:27):
Teams it just.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
DOESN'T i thought they got the yips a little bit.
TOO i thought they.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
Overcomplicated, uh you, Know manta shanked that backhand right in.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
Front chinakoff shot wide all the.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
TIME i thought the most legitimate chance was rushed who
made a great move and uh And vladar just got
the pad don and Over.

Speaker 6 (33:44):
MARK i thought about you when he went for the
rusty that would have sent the series back To.

Speaker 9 (33:48):
PITTSBURGH i know it.

Speaker 6 (33:50):
Was it was a great, save maybe the best save
of the, night and let's.

Speaker 9 (33:53):
Give flodor some. Credit he was.

Speaker 6 (33:55):
UNBELIEVABLE i, mean that was that was one of the
best playoff goaltending Performances i've ever witnessed. Person that was
really incredible stuff from. Him you, know nine times out
of Ten, rostermantha they they bury one of those.

Speaker 9 (34:08):
Chances, uh they just didn't do.

Speaker 6 (34:10):
It AND i thought The penguins they got better as
that game went on last. Night they were clearly the
better team in the third, period in. Overtime BUT i
also thought they looked a little bit tight at. TIMES
i thought both teams. DID i thought both teams were
feeling the pressure a little. Bit and when that, happens you,
know it turns into a crap. Shoot and that's why
you don't lose the first two games at, home because
when you do, that you're putting yourself at risk of

(34:31):
losing a game like we saw last.

Speaker 9 (34:32):
Night that's exactly what.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
Happened, josh great, Stuff thank you as. Always we'll talk
again real. Soon all, Right, mark you got. It That's
josh away from the athletic who always goes down.

Speaker 1 (34:42):

would you bring Up Guinny malkin back last? Year you
can talk about any of the free. Agents and Should
pirate fans be? Panicking with The pirates having lost five straight?
Now skeens lost, today got lit up in the first
inning for two home.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
Runs pirates are.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
Now sixteen and, sixteen back to five hundred and in
last place in The National League. Central none of that's.
Good should they be panicking or should, they AS i,
suggest make a. Move you don't have to wait till
the deadline if you think you're a playoff. Team patch
a hole now because guys Like davis at, catcher Probably

(36:57):
ozun at dh these guys just aren't gonna. Hit reynolds
looks like he's just not gonna. Hit and he mangled
to play in the outfield today. Too what a bum he?
Is what a friggin waste of money, anyway the number eight,
three three four one two. Wxdx and this ain't the
first year he's been a waste of money last year.
Too let's go To dylan And. Bergerston, dylan you're on

(37:20):
with DOUBLE.

Speaker 5 (37:21):
M, yeah, hello mister. Man i'm just speaking on THE.

Speaker 3 (37:25):
WWE i was, wondering if you were In, george who
would you give the next shot for the title? Run
and with, That i'll leave you be longtime, Listener thank,
you thank.

Speaker 1 (37:35):
YOU i don't watch it very.

Speaker 2 (37:37):
MUCH i know they're recycling a lot of guys in different,
feuds Like cody And, orton you, Know Roman. Reigns they
They i'm not gonna say they ruined the bloodline. Thing
they just kind of it kind of ran out of.
Steam they did the same thing as THE. nWo they
tried to have two blood, lines just LIKE wcw WHERE i,
worked tried to have two nwos and it just makes

(37:59):
that kid mcpeter. Out but as with THE, nWo which
is the single greatest angle in wrestling, history change the whole,
business BEAT, Wwe just as with THE, nWo wb got
a good run out of the bloodline And Roman reinge
is still a star that hasn't. Stopped but, UH i don't.
KNOW i love Bron. BREAKER i love Bron. Breaker is

(38:23):
he ready for that? LEVEL i don't, Know BUT i
love Ron. Breaker he's. DIFFERENT i, mean he's my my
friend's kid and my my friend's. Nephew The Steiner brothers
WHO i liked very much when we worked. Together but,
Yeah i'm a big believer in Bron, breaker AND i
think they need to repackage a lot of the stuff
they're doing with the women's division and.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
Get charlotte back on.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
Top, NOW i would say that BECAUSE i love her a,
bit but, nonetheless there's not a better performer than her
men or. Women and she's kind of been putting that
comedy thing With Alexa bliss and it's been really. Good
but those would be my two main stars Bron. Breaker
on the men's, Side, well, no, No broun's the up
and coming. GUY i Love, cody how can you not Love?

(39:04):
Randy how can you?

Speaker 1 (39:06):
Not but But broun's the up and coming.

Speaker 2 (39:09):
Guy In, charlotte you just be number one period with
the women because no one's close to.

Speaker 1 (39:13):
Her, well oh you're still? There well good. Bye then
let's go to a talkback.

Speaker 9 (39:18):
Talking about making a big trade this. Offseason who do
you think is a realistic trade?

Speaker 1 (39:23):
TARGET i assume you mean for The.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
PENGUINS i Know kyle would like to Get Jason, robertson
BUT i he hired an, agent he fired his old,
agent hired a new. Agent who gets contracts done With,
dallas and he loves playing there so. MUCH i think
he might give them a discount contractually until some cap
money opens, up maybe sign a shorter term. DEAL i
think he'd be dumb to do, that but he wants
to stay In. Dallas SO i would try to trade

(39:49):
For Jason. ROBERTSON i don't, know BECAUSE i want to
see who comes. Available you, KNOW i mean WHAT I
i mean that The penguins. WOULDN'T i don't think trade
For conor McDavid lee on Dry. SIDLE i just don't
think they had to wear withal but. One if The
overs go out in the first round And Stan bowman And,

(40:09):
edmonton if he keeps his, Job i'm not sure he
will if they go out. Early but what if he decides,
that you know that that model's not working with the
two super duperstars and it's Not.

Speaker 1 (40:21):
Let's go To Chris Chris ron with DOUBLE.

Speaker 8 (40:22):
M good, day.

Speaker 1 (40:25):
SIR i, said good, Day.

Speaker 8 (40:28):
Hey talk and playoff hockey being different than the regular
season and the physicality being so, important do you think
a guy Like Igor China kopp has the physicality to
play in the.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
PLAYOFFS i don't think it's a matter of.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
PHYSICALITY i think he for one, THING i don't know
we can conclude. Anything it was his first, year first
half season with The, penguins and first real chance at
playing a top six role in THE, nhl AND i
think ginacopp passedwords flying. Colors it's not so much the. Physicality,
yeah it's the extra gear you. NEED i thought the
hitting tone. Down it was still there and certainly more

(41:06):
than a regular season. Game BUT i thought the hitting
tone down in the last three games because The penguins
never trailed till that goal went in last. Night SO
i am not worried even a little bit About Igor.
Chinakov let's go To jason.

Speaker 8 (41:19):
Super.

Speaker 5 (41:20):
Genius how you doing what?

Speaker 7 (41:21):
Up?

Speaker 12 (41:21):
Mine?

Speaker 13 (41:23):
Hey seth Freaking rollins has the, talk he got the,
look he got the.

Speaker 5 (41:28):
Skill why is he not the a one top shelf.

Speaker 9 (41:31):

Speaker 1 (41:32):
W i think he's pretty close to, that don't.

Speaker 13 (41:34):
You the injury hurt.

Speaker 2 (41:37):
Him He's seth's really. Good he's always in the main event.
Picture now he's gonna. Go he's his fuse with bron
breaker right.

Speaker 13 (41:50):
They got him with guns right?

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Now, NO i think right, NOW i think right, NOW
i think bron got in seth rawlins his face the other,
NIGHT i, said, HE i Think bron told him the
only thing you're good at is being number.

Speaker 1 (41:59):
Two SO i think that's the.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
Feud AND i would you set to Put braun, over
no doubt about. That maybe not decisively and for all,
time but but, Uh braun's on the way.

Speaker 1 (42:09):
Up let's go to a.

Speaker 12 (42:10):
Talkback, Hey, MARK i wanted to know what you think
the pen should do with the forty eight million in cap.

Speaker 9 (42:17):
Room love the.

Speaker 1 (42:18):
SHOW i THINK i should give it to. Me now
here's your chance to.

Speaker 2 (42:23):

Fear thrives in silence and confusion. Ana Navarro rejects both. Her voice is an antidote to today’s chaos. Her new podcast, Bleep! with Ana Navarro, takes on today’s most pressing issues with the voices most connected to it: decision-makers, political leaders, cultural shapers, and people on the frontlines of the story. The conversations acknowledge the emotions we all feel—despair, sadness, fear— but emerge with knowledge, perspective, and hope. The belief is simple: fearless dialogue can transform fear into courage, and courage into change. When fear dominates the headlines, this show digs deeper. Because information, debate, and conversation don’t just ease fear, they give us power to shape the future.
