when you can talk about it with Pirates analyst Bob
walk Waukee. How were you his momentum in baseball? What
did the Pirates build by sweeping Milwaukee? And is the
All Star break hurt or help in that regard?

Well, I'm not going on momentum in baseball because it's
each game depends so much on what kind of what
kind of pitching? Do you get that any particular day,
So momentums sort of tough to uh, you know, keep
going during the ball game. I get that a little bit,
you know, you can. It's something I think you can

feel when you're down there on the field and in
the dugout watching the game, where you get this feeling, oh,
this one we gotta do something soon. This one's gonna,
you know, slip away from us, or you know, okay,
here we this guy. That kind of feeling is real
and and I've seen it work so during the game.
Other than that, I'm not a big believer in it.

So you know what does the three games? It gives
you confidence that you're going to stay in this race
that okay, we pretty much had to sweep these guys
at least take two out of three. But if we're
going to be serious, we had to sweep them. And
and that's what they did. And the doubleheader was a
very hard, hard fought thing. Couple of one run ball games.

It's kind of rare to sweep the doubleheader and both
of them be one run games.

But they they pulled it off.

They did it, so they I think have reason to
still believe in themselves and and uh, you know, maybe
a little message that to the front office, Hey we're ready,
you know, maybe get us a little help and uh
and and we'll go even a little further, because I
do believe that they're going to try and bolster this

bullpen because that I think is the obvious weak spot.

What do you make of Valdesk so far ten home
runs in his first twenty seven MLB games, Because his
continued emergence would open up a lot of options.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Oh yeah, if he continues to play like this, even
for another couple of weeks or so, then you have
to start thinking, Wow, this kid is really for real
and you know, could be one of the better players
in the league come next year. So yeah, there's a
lot of excitement. I think watching him, I can't wait
till he comes up to the plate every day.

Now I know that.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
You know he's got a big swing. He's a huge
power hits the ball. You know, I can hit the
ball out of anywhere and will strike out, it looks
like occasionally. But he's starting to already cut that down.
They try to attack him with the fastballs upstairs. He's
learned to lay off those. He will make contact with him.
(02:49):
They threw I think about a ninety sticks ninety seven
on our fastball upstairs during the last few games, I
can't remember now which pitcher was, and he had a
home run to right field. It was a big I
think it was that big three run shot to put
us ahead. And so you see him do things like

that and make adjustments. Two pitches before he hit that ball.
By the way, it was a lefty thrown a really
good change up down the way, missed the strikes on
by about three inches. In my experience young hitters coming
up to the big leagues for the first time, that
change up really bothers him, really gives him a hard time.
(03:30):
He didn't even check swing at that or anything recognize
that laid off it and then hit the home home
run two pitches later. So he's doing some things that
are impressive besides the fact that, oh he's hitting.

A lot of home runs in their long ways.

The way he's going about his bats, if you kind
of dissect them a little bit also kind of you know,
makes you raise your eyebrows a little bit and say.

Oh wow, look at that.

So I'm I can't wait to see what he does
the last two and a half monts here, because he's
definitely carrying a huge load. I mean, when you see
guys come up and you know, within a week or
so they're they're hitting clean up for you on a
daily basis. Right handers, left handers, doesn't matter. It's just
you don't see it. And you put him next to Cruise,

uh and and Cruise. Before he got hurt, he was
really starting to get it clicking a little bit. Man,
What a incredible one two punch that is. And really
look up and down the lineup. You get everybody healthy
and in there at the same time, there's no resting
spots for an opposing pitcher.

Where is Paul Schiens at right now?
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Walkie after two pretty decent starts before the break.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
Oh you know, he's probably the last one that he
looked just pretty much normal for me to what we've seen.
Uh you know, I I am not really you know,
going crazy or anything about. You know, his year not
as quite as good as the prior to. I've he
wasn't going to have three years first three year in

a row with the e R and the ones that
wasn't going to happen. So now he's looking like a
normal elite pitcher where there'll be a couple of times
a year where you know, he has a couple of
bad games and he's going to have to get himself
out of it, and I think he does that. Everything
was amplified a little bit because in that streak we

played some bad baseball behind him. We couldn't catch a
ball or throw the ball to the right base or
the bullpen, had a couple of blow ups a couple
of times when scoring many runs. Then he started pitching poorly,
and now you look and you go, wow, we've lost
eight games in a row.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
He's pitched. A couple of them were his fault. The
rest of him.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
He was just in that spot where the team didn't
play well on every fifth day, and he was the
guy that was out there that happened sometimes. You know,
hopefully he continues to pitch like he does the last
couple of times and he has a good, strong last
two months. Because if we can get the bullpen straight,
get some help there, then sure we're still in this hunt.

Way we can do we can do something. I obviously
have the offense for it.
Speaker 2 (06:05):

You mentioned the bullpen a couple of times, and I
agree that is the biggest area of concern. How many
arms would it take additions to properly fix the bullpen
or are there some internal options?
Speaker 4 (06:21):
Well, there are some internal options, uh that that could
help and play, but uh what I if you could
just say, what do you want? I would like to
see him go out and get a stud very, you know,
verifiable closer reliever, because I think it makes everybody else
in that bullpen a lot better. But if they can't
(06:45):
do that and you have to patch a bunch of
stuff together, I think there are some internal options, but
then you're gonna have to move some pieces around and
you're gonna have to I think, go outside of the organization.

For for more pitching depth in the bullpen.

You know, Majenski's role could change, for instance, and you know,
instead of being you know, kind of piggybacking off of
the guys and throwing you know, three innings, you might
move him into more of a you know, closer's role
and see how he does there and then and then
that would you know, push everybody up forward a little

bit in some different roles, you know, roles where they're
not having the as much pressure on them, and uh,
you know, maybe everybody pitch is a little bit better.
I mean, these are just some kind of throwing stuff
against the wall right now, but these are some things
they could do. Like I said originally, though, I would
love him to go out and find a top notch

you know closer. Now maybe that's easier for me to
sit here and talk about than actually do it, but uh,
that would be what I would like. And I think
that a lot of the dominoes would start going the
right direction if you could put a really a.

I think the trickle down, like you said, for the
entire bullpen would be beneficiary. Where do all these this
hitting come from? That's such a basic question. The most
runs in MLB at the All Star break. We guy,
I knew the hitting would be better with some of
the guys they added, but this has turned into the
lumber company.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Yeah, I am, I'm shocked by you know what has happened.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
It's it's been pretty awesome, a lot of fun to watch,
you know. I think of all the games, all the
teams that I have seen as an announcer, and even
the teams that I have played with, and these guys
can can slug it out with any of those those groups.

The way they hit home runs.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
You know a lot of people say, he can't have
a home run hitting team and P and C Ballpark
at P and C Park, Well, you know that's a lie.

You take a look at these guys.

You know that they're hitting the heck out of the
ball I guess if you want to, like say, well,
what one thing is, well, they've kind of tailored the
lineup to the ball park. We got a lot of
little left left, left handed power guys, you know, and
then you get lucky enough that you call up this
twenty two year old kid because you have to, and

he's a right hand hitter, but he just starts hitting
the ball out all over. Well, you know, that's that's
a little bit. I think luck there. I think that
you know, no, but not even Valdez probably thought he
was going to be doing this in the big leagues
this season. So that's you know, sometimes part of the
process is to be a little a little lucky. But
then we lost Griffin and he was he had turned

himself into immediately, I think, showing that he's the best
all round baseball player on the whole club. I think
that's been a huge absolutely absolutely yeah. But as I
said this, when it happened, if there is one place
where maybe we could afford a big injury, it was

our offense. Uh, you know, I hate hate that it
was that it was the kid. I mean that that's
that's horrible, but it happened. But at least, you know,
we have a chance to, you know, to get over
that because we got a lot of hitters. If you
would have lost one of our top dogs on our
pitching staff, that would have been a blow that we
might not be able to fix.

Finally, walking and I've been waiting since Sunday to ask
you this question. Milwaukee hit three Pirate batters on Sunday
Reynolds twice, O'Hearn once, and the Pirates did not retaliate.

Should they have, Well.

You know you're gonna get thrown out of the game
and suspended, So if you think it's worth it, then
you go ahead and do it.
Speaker 5 (10:38):

When I played, of course it was worth it. You know,
we threw it people all the time. People threw it
us all the time. It was part of baseball. But
they've tried to get that out of the game. Earlier
this year, we had a reliever that we just called up.
I think you only pitched a couple of games for us,
you know, shame on me for I can't remember his
name right now, but he threw a pitch inside on somebody.

I don't know if you remember, not to get jackknifed
out of the way. There hadn't been anything happened before
in the ball game. Nobody had been hit, and the
umpire behind the plate threw our guy out of the
game and he got suspended for three days, I believe,
and fined for just for throwing inside, not for hitting anybody.
Uh So that that's kind of where we're at right now.

So I guarantee you if we were to retaliated, You're
you're you're losing your picture for that game, which you
know maybe is so whatt you know, but he's also
going to be suspended. He's also going to be fine.
Is it worth, you know, standing up and sending a message?
Like I said, when I played that, that wasn't a question.
You obviously did it. It was and nobody better than

and you know you're putting the game at risk because
you're willing to risk all of that to send a message.
So that sends a much bigger message than waiting to
where it's more convenient for you.

much I suck and all this stuff as I'm on deck,
and so what I used to do BRO is the
only place I did it in. I would wait, like,

you know, somebody needs to be on deck, that's the rule.
But I would wait until the umpire would look over,
so I'd like it would be like strike one on
the batter, and I'm like, I'm not going out there.
I'm staying in the dugout until you know, so strike too,
and then it'd be like the third pick and then unplaturna,
Hey who's on deck? Oh my my bad dude, And
then I'd walk out and just get berated by the fans.
But I'm like, at least I got at least a

couple of minute reprieved by, you know, being a veteran
player and not going out there to get crushed.

You hear sometimes that home run derby can mess up
your swing.

You know what, Yeah, I think that's been something that
people say. I think home run derby can mess up
your swing. If you're up there just trying to hook everything.
Because when you as a baseball player, you're always kind of.

Work in the middle of the field. You're working the
other side of the gaps.

And I think the biggest thing is if you get
guys up there turning and burning every pitch, I actually
think that can mess up your swing.

For whatever reason, it just does.

But what you saw last night from guys, I mean
you saw guys going left, center, right center, if you're left.
You saw guys really using the center of the field
and the gaps. Most of the homers were hit. So
I think if you're staying there because you're one of
the best power heres in the game, I think it
doesn't mess up your swing.

Now, last week we talked about your All Star Game memories,
and it's undoubtedly traditionally a great event. But this year
you got no Judge, no Otani, no schemes, no Mizraski,
no pirate rep.

I mean, I'm gonna.

Watch it, but it seems like the bloom's off the
rows a little bit this year.

Yeah, but there's still some really you got still.

Got some really good players. I mean you're talking one,
so you got Schoreber, Freddie Freeman. You know, I mean
there's still there's still some you know's still some big
time star power in the American League and in the
National League.

So I think baseball is in a great.

Place because you know, when I want, I watched the
game last night.

You know when you watched the derby.

Last night, I thought there was just some great players
up and down that derby. And you know when you're
looking at the American team, Mike Trout, he's back.

You know, he's from Philly. That's a good story.

Uh, you know, he's from outside in Philly and Jersey.
But you were on Alvarez Man, one of the best
hitters in the game right now, Junior cam and Arrows
twenty two, twenty three years old, some of the best power,
Bobby Witt junior. So there's some guys, you know, has
been a great story for the Yankees.

There's some great storylines tonight too. So I know Judge
Is and Daryl Tawny, some of those guys. But there
are some.

Really good players in the game, and I think it's
gonna be really be a good one.

That's definitely a good look. And one guy we've talked
about him before. My favorite player might be Freddy Freeman.
You know why, every time I flipped the dob case
because I go from game to game.

I have the attention span of a third grader.

And and every time I see Freddy Freeman at the play,
he gives a great at that he never sucks. I mean,
I've never seen Freddy Freeman suck.

That's why he's so good due and that's why he's
thirty five, thirty six years old and he's still really good.
Because you know, it's funny to know Freddy Freeman too.
You know, I'm a big being the hitty coach for WBC,
I got a chance to really talk to different guys.
I remember talking to Will Smith, who was the catcher
for the Dodgers, and Dino Abel, who's the third base coach.
I said, tell me what Freddy Freeman's batting practice looks like.

They're like, he gets five everyone gets five rounds.

He said.

He lines almost every pitch over the shortstop's head. He's like,
it's the most boring BP ever, but it really sets
up his swing. And I think that's why he's so good.
He has such a good approach, such a good process,
and he doesn't waiver from it. You know, he doesn't
get pitches away, and that's what the elite players do.
And when I watch Freddie Freeman, I look at it
just like you do Double M. And this guy's gonna

put together good at bat. It's gonna be a tough
at bat, and he's probably gonna win.

Talking to Sean Casey here on the X case, you know,
it's funny. I know the All Star Games changed a lot,
and this is even a little bit before your time,
but I go back to nineteen seventy. I know you've
seen this highlight Pete Rose runs over Ray Fossy home
played to win the game case I was nine, talk
about making an impression. I can see that in my
in my sleep, but every time I closed my eyes,

I remember Pete Rose barreling over Ray Fosse.

You know what's so funny too, because obviously Double M
me playing those years in Cincinnati, that clip was always played,
and you.

Know it was like, oh, Pete Rude.

Ruined Ray Foss's career. Well turns out they were actually
good friends. But that's the way those guys played, and
they were playing for Kiefs back in the day.

Like wanting to win and if you played any if

Wise in anything, he's gonna want to, you know, take
you out.

exactly what happened. I mean, when you watch Brandon lau

does become contagious in the lineup. You know, you see
Reynolds having an All Star year again. What he's been

doing has been pretty incredible. O'Neil Cruz before he went down.
I think it's helped him the most because I think
last year maybe he thought he had to be this
incredible player because that lineup just had nobody that could
hit the ball to the ballpark, you know, and he.

Horwitz was the one guy last year that he's I
think He's the only guy that had over an ops

the way he's been playing it, you know, even putting
some thump in there too.

four two homers. I think I drove in six or seven.
I got on base seven times. I think I walked twice,
got hit by a pitch. I remember, I remember this
is the first time I had an encounter with Jim Leland.
He was he was the manager of the Rockies, I
believe in ninety nine, and I was like, I said,

walk Waukee. How were you his momentum in baseball? What
did the Pirates build by sweeping Milwaukee? And is the
All Star break hurt or help in that regard?

Well, I'm not going on momentum in baseball because it's
each game depends so much on what kind of what
kind of pitching? Do you get that any particular day,
So momentums sort of tough to uh, you know, keep
going during the ball game. I get that a little bit,
you know, you can. It's something I think you can

feel when you're down there on the field and in
the dugout watching the game, where you get this feeling, oh,
this one we gotta do something soon. This one's gonna,
you know, slip away from us, or you know, okay,
here we this guy. That kind of feeling is real
and and I've seen it work so during the game.
Other than that, I'm not a big believer in it.

So you know what does the three games? It gives
you confidence that you're going to stay in this race
that okay, we pretty much had to sweep these guys
at least take two out of three. But if we're
going to be serious, we had to sweep them. And
and that's what they did. And the doubleheader was a
very hard, hard fought thing. Couple of one run ball games.

It's kind of rare to sweep the doubleheader and both
of them be one run games.

But they they pulled it off.

They did it, so they I think have reason to
still believe in themselves and and uh, you know, maybe

do believe that they're going to try and bolster this

bullpen because that I think is the obvious weak spot.

What do you make of Valdesk so far ten home
runs in his first twenty seven MLB games, Because his
continued emergence would open up a lot of options.

Oh yeah, if he continues to play like this, even
for another couple of weeks or so, then you have
to start thinking, Wow, this kid is really for real
and you know, could be one of the better players
in the league come next year. So yeah, there's a
lot of excitement. I think watching him, I can't wait
till he comes up to the plate every day.

You know he's got a big swing. He's a huge
power hits the ball. You know, I can hit the
ball out of anywhere and will strike out, it looks
like occasionally. But he's starting to already cut that down.
They try to attack him with the fastballs upstairs. He's
learned to lay off those. He will make contact with him.
(02:49):
They threw I think about a ninety sticks ninety seven
on our fastball upstairs during the last few games, I
can't remember now which pitcher was, and he had a
home run to right field. It was a big I
think it was that big three run shot to put
us ahead. And so you see him do things like
(03:10):
that and make adjustments. Two pitches before he hit that ball.
By the way, it was a lefty thrown a really
good change up down the way, missed the strikes on
by about three inches. In my experience young hitters coming
up to the big leagues for the first time, that
change up really bothers him, really gives him a hard time.
(03:30):
He didn't even check swing at that or anything recognize
that laid off it and then hit the home home
run two pitches later. So he's doing some things that
are impressive besides the fact that, oh he's hitting.

A lot of home runs in their long ways.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
The way he's going about his bats, if you kind
of dissect them a little bit also kind of you know,
makes you raise your eyebrows a little bit and say.

Oh wow, look at that.

So I'm I can't wait to see what he does
the last two and a half monts here, because he's
definitely carrying a huge load. I mean, when you see
guys come up and you know, within a week or
so they're they're hitting clean up for you on a
daily basis. Right handers, left handers, doesn't matter. It's just
you don't see it. And you put him next to Cruise,

uh and and Cruise. Before he got hurt, he was
really starting to get it clicking a little bit. Man,
What a incredible one two punch that is. And really
look up and down the lineup. You get everybody healthy
and in there at the same time, there's no resting
spots for an opposing pitcher.

Where is Paul Schiens at right now?
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Walkie after two pretty decent starts before the break.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
Oh you know, he's probably the last one that he
looked just pretty much normal for me to what we've seen.
Uh you know, I I am not really you know,
going crazy or anything about. You know, his year not
as quite as good as the prior to. I've he
wasn't going to have three years first three year in

a row with the e R and the ones that
wasn't going to happen. So now he's looking like a
normal elite pitcher where there'll be a couple of times
a year where you know, he has a couple of
bad games and he's going to have to get himself
out of it, and I think he does that. Everything
was amplified a little bit because in that streak we
(05:22):
played some bad baseball behind him. We couldn't catch a
ball or throw the ball to the right base or
the bullpen, had a couple of blow ups a couple
of times when scoring many runs. Then he started pitching poorly,
and now you look and you go, wow, we've lost
eight games in a row.

He's pitched. A couple of them were his fault. The
rest of him.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
He was just in that spot where the team didn't
play well on every fifth day, and he was the
guy that was out there that happened sometimes. You know,
hopefully he continues to pitch like he does the last
couple of times and he has a good, strong last
two months. Because if we can get the bullpen straight,
get some help there, then sure we're still in this hunt.

Way we can do we can do something. I obviously
have the offense for it.

You mentioned the bullpen a couple of times, and I
agree that is the biggest area of concern. How many
arms would it take additions to properly fix the bullpen
or are there some internal options?

Well, there are some internal options, uh that that could
help and play, but uh what I if you could
just say, what do you want? I would like to
see him go out and get a stud very, you know,
verifiable closer reliever, because I think it makes everybody else
in that bullpen a lot better. But if they can't

do that and you have to patch a bunch of
stuff together, I think there are some internal options, but
then you're gonna have to move some pieces around and
you're gonna have to I think, go outside of the organization.

For for more pitching depth in the bullpen.

You know, Majenski's role could change, for instance, and you know,
instead of being you know, kind of piggybacking off of
the guys and throwing you know, three innings, you might
move him into more of a you know, closer's role
and see how he does there and then and then
that would you know, push everybody up forward a little

bit in some different roles, you know, roles where they're
not having the as much pressure on them, and uh,
you know, maybe everybody pitch is a little bit better.
I mean, these are just some kind of throwing stuff
against the wall right now, but these are some things
they could do. Like I said originally, though, I would
love him to go out and find a top notch

you know closer. Now maybe that's easier for me to
sit here and talk about than actually do it, but uh,
that would be what I would like. And I think
that a lot of the dominoes would start going the
right direction if you could put a really a.

I think the trickle down, like you said, for the
entire bullpen would be beneficiary. Where do all these this
hitting come from? That's such a basic question. The most
runs in MLB at the All Star break. We guy,
I knew the hitting would be better with some of
the guys they added, but this has turned into the
lumber company.

Yeah, I am, I'm shocked by you know what has happened.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
It's it's been pretty awesome, a lot of fun to watch,
you know. I think of all the games, all the
teams that I have seen as an announcer, and even
the teams that I have played with, and these guys
can can slug it out with any of those those groups.

The way they hit home runs.

You know a lot of people say, he can't have
a home run hitting team and P and C Ballpark
at P and C Park, Well, you know that's a lie.

You take a look at these guys.

You know that they're hitting the heck out of the
ball I guess if you want to, like say, well,
what one thing is, well, they've kind of tailored the
lineup to the ball park. We got a lot of
little left left, left handed power guys, you know, and
then you get lucky enough that you call up this
twenty two year old kid because you have to, and

he's a right hand hitter, but he just starts hitting
the ball out all over. Well, you know, that's that's
a little bit. I think luck there. I think that
you know, no, but not even Valdez probably thought he
was going to be doing this in the big leagues
this season. So that's you know, sometimes part of the
process is to be a little a little lucky. But
then we lost Griffin and he was he had turned

himself into immediately, I think, showing that he's the best
all round baseball player on the whole club. I think
that's been a huge absolutely absolutely yeah. But as I
said this, when it happened, if there is one place
where maybe we could afford a big injury, it was

our offense. Uh, you know, I hate hate that it
was that it was the kid. I mean that that's
that's horrible, but it happened. But at least, you know,
we have a chance to, you know, to get over
that because we got a lot of hitters. If you
would have lost one of our top dogs on our
pitching staff, that would have been a blow that we
might not be able to fix.

Finally, walking and I've been waiting since Sunday to ask
you this question. Milwaukee hit three Pirate batters on Sunday
Reynolds twice, O'Hearn once, and the Pirates did not retaliate.

Should they have, Well.

You know you're gonna get thrown out of the game
and suspended, So if you think it's worth it, then
you go ahead and do it.

When I played, of course it was worth it. You know,
we threw it people all the time. People threw it
us all the time. It was part of baseball. But
they've tried to get that out of the game. Earlier
this year, we had a reliever that we just called up.
I think you only pitched a couple of games for us,
you know, shame on me for I can't remember his
name right now, but he threw a pitch inside on somebody.

I don't know if you remember, not to get jackknifed
out of the way. There hadn't been anything happened before
in the ball game. Nobody had been hit, and the
umpire behind the plate threw our guy out of the
game and he got suspended for three days, I believe,
and fined for just for throwing inside, not for hitting anybody.
Uh So that that's kind of where we're at right now.

So I guarantee you if we were to retaliated, You're
you're you're losing your picture for that game, which you
know maybe is so whatt you know, but he's also
going to be suspended. He's also going to be fine.
Is it worth, you know, standing up and sending a message?
Like I said, when I played that, that wasn't a question.
You obviously did it. It was and nobody better than

he gives a great at that he never sucks. I mean,

You know, I'm a big being the hitty coach for WBC,
I got a chance to really talk to different guys.

for the Dodgers, and Dino Abel, who's the third base coach.
I said, tell me what Freddy Freeman's batting practice looks like.

They're like, he gets five everyone gets five rounds.

He lines almost every pitch over the shortstop's head. He's like,

up his swing. And I think that's why he's so good.

And when I watch Freddie Freeman, I look at it
just like you do Double M. And this guy's gonna

put together good at bat. It's gonna be a tough
at bat, and he's probably gonna win.

it's funny. I know the All Star Games changed a lot,

seen this highlight Pete Rose runs over Ray Fossy home

about making an impression. I can see that in my
in my sleep, but every time I closed my eyes,

good friends. But that's the way those guys played, and

Now, I did the Pirates gain legitimate momentum with those
three wins that sweep in Milwaukee because it was certainly
a fun weekend.

I mean, I think I think they really sent the message.

I think that division, you know, it could be up
for grabs if the Brewers start to, you know, take
a step backwards. But winning three against them was it

Oh no, no question, especially killing him fourteen to five
in the third game and the Pirates lead mlbing run scored,
and I got to tell you, I didn't see that coming.
But the nearest guess I can make is when you
bring in guys let Goharne and Law who are real
professional hitters, maybe it was a domino effect case. I mean,
did the whole lineup fall into place maybe a little

bit better because of those guys.

Dude, I really think so double and I think that's
exactly what happened. I mean, when you watch Brandon lau
and and Hearn put together at bats that you know
they're putting together. You know they're going three two, they're
going deep, they're not chasing outside the zone, and if
you make a mistake then they the pay and that
does become contagious in the lineup. You know, you see
Reynolds having an All Star year again. What he's been

doing has been pretty incredible. O'Neil Cruz before he went down.
I think it's helped him the most because I think
last year maybe he thought he had to be this
incredible player because that lineup just had nobody that could
hit the ball to the ballpark, you know, and he.

Did so well.

Horwitz was the one guy last year that he's I
think He's the only guy that had over an ops
plus over one hundred, so he was a you know,
I think when I talked to Ben Sherington back when
they traded for him, he was like, he puts together
good at bats and that's what we need.

I just feel like, top to bottom, you're right, double end.
Speaker 8 (26:54):
There's something contagious about the way the process of the
bats looked so much better in that whole lineup right now.

Yeah, in the depth, like Mangum is doing real well.
I mean, they have a surplus kind of to trade
from now, and I'm interested to see what they do
with it, whether it's to get a bullpen guy, maybe
more than one bullpen guy.

Why, you're right, I mean, who'd have thought that right
here at the All Star breaks, we'd be talking about
the Pirates having too much offense with some of these
guys that'll be coming back, you know, O'Neil, Cruz and
Horowitz and these guys will be coming back. Who'd have
thought Mangum would be hitting over three hundred and playing
the way he's been playing it, you know, even putting
some thump in there too.

It's got close to an eight hundred ops.

So you know, he's been, you know, not just hitting singles,
you know, he's been really an impact bat. So I
think it's a great thing to have right now. The
more guys you can have that you can match up
against right he's and lefties that Donny kill Kelly can
have is a good thing.

I do believe if the Bucos want to make some
noise in the postseason, which they definitely can, they've got
to get at least one electric arm or maybe two
guys that could really really help out in that bullpen.

What do you do with Lejinski, because I think he
deserves better than the role he's in.

Yeah, you know what, I actually do think that you
know that, you know, I'm just.

Well, well you do kind of look at Mitch Keller
right now, and you're like, man, it, does Mazensky.

Go back into the rotation, does Keller is Keller a
trade piece or does Keller go out to the pen.

There, but I think it's a great problem to have
because in years past, Magensky's no doubt in that rotation.
He's obviously pitched pretty well, probably deserves to be in it.
But the role that he's been in, you know, being
the guy that could you know, these guys aren't going
