think Robertson does. But like I said a bit earlier,
do you remember we heard talk about the Penguins getting
Eric Carlson back when they got him.

says quotes, you can't make that last forever. Sure you can,
any responsible adult could. He complains about only eight million
per year. I haven't made eight million in my lifetime
and I'm more than good. And why is his mom
need four million a year for housing and living expenses?

You don't have to buy the house over and over again.
Once you buy it a spot property tax, but four

feel about what you saw without Mis on the mound?

The sports, and in particular Baseball don't care what the and
once anymore that said, you know, I had a decent
time at the game. Pirates had that ridiculous ten run inning. Uh,

they really have come up with the latter day version
of the Number Lumber Company. Now they just hit and
hit and hit and hit. And that's even with some
key pieces missing. So you've got to be encouraged with
the three games, Suek, I'd feel more encouraged if they
were closer to Miami than they were. They went from
twelve games to nine games, and who cares. The wild

card at best is still their territory.

The way I view the offense, I think the biggest
thing is they've managed to get some hot streaks and
good production out of guys that weren't expected to be leaders. Well,
the likes of Horowitz Rodriguez, O'Neil, Cruz and Connor Griffin
are all hurt. That's been huge.

Yeah, I think it's been incredible. It's guys that you
don't expect to come through. Look at Henry Davis today,
Tim In one inning, Ozuna got a ribby and Davis
got a home run. In another inning, Ozuna go to
home run and Davis got a rivy. I mean, talk
about a Festivus miracle twice in the same game. So
they're just getting these contributions from guys you wouldn't expect

while people are out.

Can that continue? When will these guys be back?

Can the pitching catch up enough to the hitting to
make it matter? The Pirates having their DNA that they
just come up short, they reverse fields once they get going,
they sacrifice momentum at the drop of a hat like
That'll hearn three run home one game that felt like
a momentum switch. Then they lost the two games after that.

So it's a really hard team to read.

Yeah, momentum is hard for them to sustain for a
day or two, let alone during the span of the
week off during All Star breaks.

But then again, Kim, isn't that just like the Pirates
to gather legitimate momentum with three wins right before the
All Star break and you got to go to Cleveland

these last thirteen games were all against pretty good opponents.

Think it was after going five hundred until the sweep
of Milwaukee, which I didn't see coming. How sustainable do
you think Valdez is.

It would I'd like to know if they think he's sustainable,
because if they think he's sustainable, you could you could,
in theory, make some very interesting trades at the deadline.

What was your opinion of them trading the comp pick.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
I thought it was dumb. They traded the thirty fourth pick. Overall,
that's a pretty high pick, right for a four A player.

I didn't like the trade.

I think it was a trade for the sake of
making a trade, a trade to look like you're trying
to win.

It was a little bit more of image than substance.
I'll agree with you there. I guess the mentality was
they wanted a guy who was a former first round
pick that was closer to the majors than the guy
that they were gonna pick. But how good of a
pick was that from Chicago in the first place. You know,
I almost would have rather just stuck with taking the
guy that I can develop, a guy who's close to

the majors. But maybe not this year. Then again, Mark,
maybe Sherrington's feeling a little bit. Maybe he's feeling the pressure.

Yeah, I mean pressure from an owner who doesn't want
to win, who just wants to, you know, make and
save money. I don't know about that, pressure from the
fans who cares what they think. But yeah, it was.
There's a lot they could do with the trade deadline. Now,
I mean, if you think Valdez Reynolds, o'hearne, Mangdum is

a good forceman in the outfield, you gotta keep Cruz.

Uh, there's just a whole lot they could look at
if you trust Valdez. Now, let me ask you, do

I don't know if it stays as steady as it's
been lately. The cruise thing is interesting, though, to mean Mark,
because how much of this offensive explosion do you think
is wired to the fact that you know Mangum's got
a good hit tool he gets on base, They're getting

power at bats from a different source besides Cruise, Like,
is it more than coincidence that some of this has
happened when you don't have Homer or nothing from Cruise
all the time wherever he's hitting.

I'm not a Cruise fan. You're asking the wrong guy.
I think teams would trade for his potential. I think
he's a guy that's always gonna have a market. I
think you could put Mangum in center field, he's a
decent defensive Dvoot above average, and then the other three
guys you could rotate through the outfield and through DH.
I think that's a good pattern, a good way to

set up your lineup, and you don't need Cruise to
do it. You don't want to trade Cruise wanted to
put him back at short stoff Paul Griffins out.

Maybe they thought he was too broken to ever be
a shortstop again.

But they're not good enough as deployed conventionally. They've proven
time and again they're not good enough to make the playoffs,
They're gonna take some chances, whether it's being a trade
you might not normally make or a lineup decision you
might not normally bank.

I would let him try to finish the perfect game.

all these guys and let them push the limitations, because again,

What I've written for Monday about Skeens is, you know,
the last two starts, he's been better. He hasn't been
what we think of Paul Skeens, but it hasn't mattered
because he's gotten twenty six runs of support, which previously
had been what six outings for him in his first
two years in Pittsburgh.

Yeah, I mean, I thought he looked okay today. He
didn't craft a hundred. I don't think he even cracked
ninety eight. So I still wonder where the missing velocity is.
I think that's a big question nobody wants to ask.
Got Wow, he's throw so much junk in the first
two innings where he threw like what I think, seventeen
pitches to get through the first two innings, sixteen pitches.

think that is part of it. I think he's pulling

that is remarkable, which is why they've only done it

So I'm not disappointed by the US. I'm not surprised
ballistics of Punk left the biggest game of his life.

run around in the heat against you know player X,

think he's been a very entertaining World Cups Long story short,

I think the real final is a semi final. I
think France versus Spain are the two best teams.

he has to say, so I take every criticism of

feel about some of the things he had to say
about soccer's development in the US.

I agree with Alexei Lallis in a lot of things,
especially as regards the World Cup. I think he's America's analyst.
This is America's World Cup. I'd rather listen to him
than much Moss Latin and carryon reed because those two
bring everything back to how good they were. As far
as Lallas talking about development, like the pay for play stuff,

how it's okay, it's not okay. You have to be
able to afford to be a soccer stand out in America,
and that's why we don't have enough good players that
because the best athletes always gonna play another sport, like
Chris Johanno Ronaldo, as I always say, if you had
grown up in America, would be a strong safety. But
as far as Lalas saying that these the guys who

developed soccer players should make as much money as they can,
I don't buy it, and it's not gonna change. But
pay for play has really kept the development down in
every sport but soccer among the most.

Are the Penguins still in position to potentially make a

even though he applied for arbitration, even though that seems
to me to indicate he's going to stay in Dallas

I mean, he did a short term deal. He'll get whatever,

mite and if you want to be encouraged as a
Penguin fan, reminds me of the summer they got Eric Carlson,
