Speaker 1 (00:00):
And Damie Nevado walks through the door. Oh my god,
what year is this? A cow just walked through the studio,
turning butter.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Away.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Right, Well, that's just kind of hokey and fun. I
don't know where to start, so I'm just going to
start somewhere, okay. Never been shy and telling you of
all the years we've been doing the show, out of
all the years I've been doing radio as a vocalist,
your voice still knocks me over every single time.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
You have a goosebump's voice.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Thank you, you're so sweet.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
I remember one time. I'm gonna start start the interview.
I don't have a negative note you look as a vocalist.
People who are not vocalist don't understand the voice of
the instrument. You can't always control where the body is
going to take you. You were doing a show for
somewhere and halfway through the show, now I know you
were about five or six songs into the show, and
it was not a long show. Your voice started to
(01:00):
get a little tender, right, And I walked up on
stage and I whispered in your ear, and if you
remember this, I said, if you want to do one more.
You don't have to, or we can say thank you
right now. And you looked at me and you said
thank you, and we walked off stage. You said, as
a vocalist, you never know where it's going to go. Yeah,
And I'm thinking, when you have a voice like Damie
Lovato's voice, how much training are you still going through
(01:23):
to keep your voice from just running away from you?
Speaker 5 (01:26):
Well, I sing all the time. I practice, especially getting
ready for tour. You know, I'm singing the songs on
the treadmill, trying to make sure my stamina is great
when I'm performing and singing on stage while dancing, and
so you know, I'm constantly singing and I'm constantly working
on it.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
A treadmill. I never thought of that.
Speaker 5 (01:44):
Yeah, Like it's not just for holding cardios cardio while
you sing.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
You know, it makes the workout a lot more challenging.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
But I have to make sure that my cardio is
up because I am doing so much singing while dancing
on tour.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Are you wearing heels on this treadmill while you're absolutely not?
Speaker 3 (02:05):
I started a line. Yeah, I appreciate that.
Speaker 6 (02:08):
One time you said touring was so taxing on your body.
It is, so what made you decide I'm ready, I'm
going out again.
Speaker 5 (02:15):
I really had a lot of fun making this album.
It's not that deep, and I knew that it was
just the next step in this era was to take
it on the road and to be able. The songs
are so celebratory and so fun and energetic that I
couldn't imagine not doing a tour with this music.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
There you have it. By the way, the tour kicks
off in April.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
And thank you for doing that. That back in the day.
That was really yeah, yeah, definitely, but thank you. Good
looking out look.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
You know, we were saying a few moments ago that
you know, we've been doing the show for thirty years,
and we've had all sorts of incredible artists rolled in
and out this door. Some of them are still around,
some of art you know of for whatever reason. And
but you and you're you asked them. Your voice and
your presence has always been one of my favorite parts
of coming to work because otherwise I got to work
with these people.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Hey, none of us are working out for singing on
a treadmill.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Yeah, I'm on a treadmill. Rather than singing, I just
walk right. I want to talk about the cookbook. Okay,
so there's there's another I want to get back to
the music and get back to the tour, but the cookbook,
one plate at a time. Yes, Uh, your relationship with
food is a part of this cookbook. I guess any
chef would tell you that. But what is your relationship
(03:31):
with food as applies to this beautiful, beautifully done cookbook.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
So I'm in recovery from an eating disorder, and my
journey with food hasn't always been seamless. I used to
be very intimidated by food. It would bring me a
lot of fear and discomfort, you know. I would to
the point where I'd step into a grocery store or
ordering food, you know, at a restaurant, I would just
break down into tears because it was so overwhelming, so
(03:57):
over stimulating for me. And now I've got into a
place where I have really started to connect with the
food through cooking, and I'm so excited. I feel like
I've found freedom with food now through my cooking, and
I wanted to bring that same freedom and that same
joy that I have in the kitchen to people that
are you know, who might be in recovery from disorder
(04:18):
eating themselves looking to take the next step in their recovery,
and also people who might just be wanting to learn
how to cook for the first time. These recipes are
really simple, flavorful, fool proof, and I'm really excited for
everyone to try them out.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Well, it's not as easy as one day I'm afraid
of food, the next day I'm writing a cookbook. So
this was a process it continues to be.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
And you know, it took me so long to step
foot into the kitchen. There were times I had been told,
you know, through my treatment team back in the day,
you know, it would be good for you to cook
for yourself, because cooking can be so healing for people
in recovery with eating disorders. And so I would step
foot into the kitchen, but maybe once or twice a
year at tops, and maybe I'd even go years without cooking.
(05:04):
But I finally decided to start cooking about four years ago.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
I started with friends, and it was very joyful.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
It was such a fun experience and to feel that support.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Would cook your friends.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Yeah, what a plot twist.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
Of course, cooking with friends, and then it was cooking
with my husband, and then it started to become cooking
by myself and I started to feel more confident in
the kitchen, no pun intended, and you know it was. Yeah,
it's been a journey.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
Do you have a favorite from your book, like a
favorite recipe.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
I think one of my favorites is definitely the honeymoon
chicken recipe.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
We're ante and we'll get to that in a minute.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
But I also love my pantry chili like I make
that a lot. I love my beef stew. There's so
many recipes in here that I enjoy and love and
you know, er excited for all of you to try. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Well, okay, so let's say fifteen years if someone said
one day, demmy, you're gonna put a cookbook out, you
would laugh at their face. I don't think so fifteen
years ago. So I don't think a cookbook is anywhere
where my life is. But now the connection with the food,
connection with the recipes, Yes, there you.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
Go, and here I am, and my inner child is
just jumping for joy, like I'm so proud of myself, And.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah, I think it's a testament to how far I've
come in my well.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
For the inner child, I would cook the cheesy mac.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Oh, the cheesey mac is so good. I add a
little dijon in there and it's a really nice space.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Musterday mac and cheese is the way to go, absolutely
so good.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
I made it for Christmas like last year and the
year before, and my family just like they love.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
It, right and also the child within You have the
chicken nuggets or the chicken tender chicken. Yeah, those are
great too, but they're not dinosaur shaped.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
You could make them.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
So did you guys go through dom through? What do
you want to cook right now?
Speaker 5 (07:00):
Well?
Speaker 4 (07:00):
The one which I the most and I marked it
here was I feel like it was nicknamed after me
in high school easiest shrimp.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
You re voted easiest shrippen. Sure, I don't know what
that means.
Speaker 6 (07:20):
Yeah, Elvis actually made it for us once and it
was amazing. So I'm excited to try this recipe.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
Oh nice, Yeah, worked, I want to try that. You
gotta cook for me sometimes.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Please just banging some pots baby, Yeah, okay. Honeymoon chicken.
Now this recipe, not this recipe in particular, but the
honeymoon or wedding chicken concept has been around for a while.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
Marry Me Chicken, Marry Me Chicken, The viral recipe that
went around and is.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
It how you got someone to marry you? Chicken for
my now.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Husband, So.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
All it takes is a friggin chicken. Yeah, but what
is it's supposed to you you seduce them with your chicken?
I don't know, but it always has it always has
sun dried tomatoes in it.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yes, definitely.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
So that's like the common thing with all these seduced
me chickens.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
It's so delicious, so flavorful, and it was one of
the first things that I cooked for my husband and
I decided to put my own spin on it with
worzo pasta, and we call it the honeymoon chicken because well,
I'm married now.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Are given fun being married?
Speaker 5 (08:24):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (08:24):
And so much fun.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
He's not here, we can talk about it work.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
It doesn't feel like work.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
We've been and you know, it's just we laugh NonStop,
like we stay up late crying tears from laughing so hard,
and we just have so much fun together and like
it's it's I wouldn't say that it feels like work,
you know, it just feels like a really loving, supportive partnership.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Well, come help me with mine, yeah, over tonight. But
you know what, that's the thing when you're with someone
that you really love being with, uh, and you just
laugh at the stupidest things, right, something that no one
else would ever understand.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
No, And you try to repeat the stories to your
friends and they're like, what had to be there?
Speaker 6 (09:11):
Like shows you watch together, because I know, at the
end of the day, my husband and I love to
have a glass of wine, watch some shows together and
just veg out.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
Yes, we love to watch TV together. We watch a
wide spectrum of stuff. We won't watch reality TV to
script it. Is there a reality show that you're into
right now?
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Did you do the Love is Blind Dance?
Speaker 2 (09:30):
No?
Speaker 3 (09:30):
I'm over Love is Blind.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
I just feel like you've moved on to another victim.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Love is not Blind, that's what.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
And I just feel like it's the same thing every season,
and like there it's just people.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
People get on there for the wrong reasons. I don't know.
I feel like the first few seasons were really good,
but we love We watched The Traders. Yeah, The Traders
is great. We watched I got him into the Real
Housewives of Salt Lake City.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
How did that happen?
Speaker 5 (09:56):
Well?
Speaker 1 (09:57):
I watched he did he go in begrudgingly and then he's.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Like, yeah, he was kind of like, what, like, okay,
but he loves good reality TV and that is some
of the best reality TV, so he was. He became
hooked quickly and we love watching that. But we're we
actually just started. We're rewatching The Walking Dead.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Oh my gosh, one of my favorite.
Speaker 6 (10:16):
It's one of my favorites, if not my favorite, but
after I'm not going to say who after a certain
time died. I was done.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
I know you can't say that. I know, I know
he was my favorite. I know someone dies and some
people and they say, I'm jealous.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
When do you take that makeup off? By the way, as.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
Far as the reality shows go, is there one that
you're like, I would crush it. If I was on
this show, I would dominate.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Don't do it?
Speaker 5 (10:48):
No, none, No, I don't think.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
So it's better watch other people make of themselves.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Yeah, I just I.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
Love to watch it all happen and sit in my bed,
cozy at home and just like, don't enjoy it from
a far Yeah, but about a.
Speaker 6 (11:03):
Cooking show like Beat Bobby Flay or something.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Yeah, I mean a cooking show would be awesome.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
That would be really we have connections by the way
did the botto is here? If you listen to us
in playback, you'll hear the beginning of the interview you
just missed, probably, but we're talking about our cookbook, One
Played at a Time, which is out. Now let's talk
about the music. Okay, the tour is in April, yes,
so how do you think this? You've been on tours
many times? How will this one be different? Well, you
(11:28):
don't know, you're not there yet, but how do you
think it might be a little more fun and a
little just wow? Okay, this is gonna be great because
now I'm here in my life.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
I think the songs are the flow of the show
is really really great and energetic, and there's a little
bit of everything. There's songs that are from my newest album,
it's not that deep, to songs from that you already
probably know, and then potentially even newer music than that.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Oh what a tease. Yeah, it's a lame ta. We
obviously know that.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Just thank you.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
We love to hear some new music from you. So
that is in April. Tickets do these tickets go and
sell different times for different markets or right now didn't
buy them? For God's sake, go buy them now. So
I know that there's a chance you have a new
single coming out. I found out the name of it.
I'm not going to divulge the name, but I'm hoping
(12:27):
that you will appear and we will play it.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
I'm hoping that.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
The entries yes, yes, through the miracle of however will
make it happen. Okay, because we'll be celebrating our thirtieth year.
We want you to be part of the celebration.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
I would love that.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
So thirty years we've been doing this show. Can you
think of anyone who had a better voice than Damian
levanpe putting you on the spot?
Speaker 6 (12:49):
You much, not at all? We always say that, but
we always say it's just pure talent and passionate you
so many things?
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Yeah, with you side?
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Wad you want to hear that brashy voice.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
In my dreams?
Speaker 2 (13:05):
I cast your lips a thousand.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Times sometimes seen you'll pass.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Outside mys A Mez looking bots.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
More level and my arm on.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
You and you don't do to.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
The job on tell you so the d is your payment?
And I played that and I started I started getting
a tear my eye. Daniel was like, are you okay?
(14:05):
I mean those are those moments you cannot control your
yourself when you hear someone move you like that. But
when you hear you do that, what do you hear.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
I'm proud of that performance.
Speaker 5 (14:17):
I'm really proud of that, and I'm I'm really critical
of myself, like something. I can be really hard on
my live performances and you know when I'm in the studio,
but like to hear that performance, that one, I'm really
proud of, you should be thank you.
Speaker 4 (14:33):
I love hearing musicians say that because so many times
you hear them, Oh, I can't listen back to myself.
Oh my god, that's embarrassing. Please don't do it. I'm
happy to hear someone.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Say I'm so proud of that. Thank you. It's great.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
And I know you said this album is very celebratory. Yeah,
and you know it's not that deep, so assuming it's
all about lessons that you've learned over time. And when
you think about younger you versus you, Now, what is
the one thing you wish you could tell younger you
about life? That's not that deep?
Speaker 5 (14:57):
I would say that there's a light at the end
to the tunnel, and all of the hard work becomes
worth it. Whether it's hard work on your recovery from
an eating disorder or whether it's recovery and sobriety, you know,
it's possible to find joy again and to live the
(15:17):
life that exceeds your wildest dreams. And I just wish
I could have heard that when I was struggling when
I was younger, and and that you're beautiful and that
you deserve recovery. You deserve everything that you're getting, and
I'm proud of you.
Speaker 6 (15:37):
You're going to make me fine right now because the
youth of today, and I have two kids, and I
know that what they see on social media and what
they talk about in school and everything that's going on
in this world has such an effect on them right now.
For you to say something like that, I hope that
everybody can hear it and know that, you know what,
(15:57):
it's going to be okay, because there's so many kids
right now now that I feel like it's not going
to be okay.
Speaker 5 (16:02):
I know, you know, yeah, And I used to be
one of them, and you know, I just would have
never imagined that I would one day marry the love
of my life and come out with music that was
celebratory and fun rather than like so emotional and heavy
(16:22):
and and that I'd have a cookbook some day, you know,
like someone that you know used to be so fearful
of food. For them to have a cookbook now is
like such a big accomplishment. I love it. Thank you.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Continue. I mean, not is not something I need recovery for,
but things that in my life that I'm terrified of.
So I'm gonna come out with a book of nude women.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
He hurts our feelings.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
I'm a gay guy. Work with me on that if
we could do that whatever.
Speaker 6 (17:02):
I don't want to change the subject, but we have
to just about Camp Rock and Camp Rock three and
the fact that you came out with the Jonus Brothers
a Met Life stadium and like everybody was screaming and
it was the coolest thing ever. And I know you're
producing it. How much are you going to be.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
In it that you'll just have to wait? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (17:20):
No, it was really fun performing with them at MetLife.
You know, we had a great time and it was
so nostalgic for us and it I like almost got emotional,
you know, or I did get a little emotional before
I went out. They there was a like video montage
of the camp rock scenes, and I was standing on
(17:40):
stage waiting to go out, and I could hear the
music that was Got to Find You by Joe, and
I just like I got I started to get choked
up a little bit, and then I was.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
Like, oh, it's time to sing. And so yeah, we
went out there and we had a blast. Well we
hadn't sang together in so long either, so it was
really cool.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
So you're going to be in the movie a lot.
Speaker 4 (18:02):
You don't have to win.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Okay, Look, that's another thing about doing the show for
so long, and I keep going back to that because
you are coming back to help to celebrate when we
play your new song. But anyway, watching watching all of
you guys grow up, yeah, I mean like the Jonahs,
the Jonahs brothers, I mean they grew up in this
studio with us, you know, basically, and watching all of
you guys going from then to now. But then again,
(18:31):
you know, you're just getting started. There's more growing up
to do. I mean, I'm sixty thousand years old. I'm
still trying to figure out and grow up. So you
never really truly grow up in magic of it all. Right, Yeah,
thank you so much for coming in today.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
Thank you so much for having me. It was wonderful
seeing all of you.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Demi Levada will be back to her new single, We're
gonna make it happen.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
I'm not saying anymore, You're just.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
That's a commitment. I've ever heard one which Timm song
should we play?
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Oh my god, there's so many, there's so many.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
I know you're not going to play the one I.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
Want to hear because it's a slow one and it's
a heartbreaking. I know that's not what we do in
the morning, stone cold good.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Wait, but can we talk about my favorite heart attack story?
Wasn't it like the American Heart Association? Okay, they attack?
Speaker 5 (19:28):
I want to say they asked me to sing that
because I flagged it beforehand and was like, isn't this
like not the vibe?
Speaker 3 (19:35):
We'll talk. They were like, no, they want to hear it.
I was like, okay, And then of course people online
are like, why did she sing that?
Speaker 1 (19:41):
I'm like, Yo, it wasn't me.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
I didn't ask.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
I loved it. I thought that was the worst idea
ever of yours. I thought that was the funny story anyway,
So let's play it.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Oh my god, her voice and this song is incredible,
and it's just the lyrics, everything about it. It just
hits me in this place of like goosebumps.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
I love it, Thank you Take It's on sale the
big tour. You got to get out and see her wherever.
Just go online to a search and she'll be in
your city. You'll be in every city known to man,
and best of luck on tour, but make sure you
don't forget to come back in the middle of tour.
