The curtain has come down on Christchurch’s “temporary” stadium, the Apollo Projects Stadium. 

Lesley Murdoch revisits the how, why, and the when – the stadium’s origins in the immediate aftermath of the 2011 earthquake.

Former All Black Colin Slade, along with a group of his mates, are running the Christchurch Marathon for charity. 

Aptly named the Fendalton Flyers, the group are running with the aim of raising $100 thousand for Full Bellies, a charity that provides school lunches for kids that fall outside the Government’s criteria. 

Slade joined Lesley Murdoch to chat about their efforts.

The quality is rising to the top at the Masters, with defending champion Rory McIlroy leading outright. 

The Northern Irishman has a whopping six-shot lead at the halfway mark, the biggest ever advantage at 36-holes.

With the Christchurch Marathon kicking off next week, the men’s champion has decided not to defend his title. 

2025 Champion Oska Baynes has instead become heavily involved in mentoring athletes in the art of long-distance running, including Nick Bewley.

Tactix defender Laura Balmer is adamant she can juggle her netball career with studying medicine heading the first ANZ premiership round this weekend. 

The 22-year-old made the move down to Christchurch to peruse her studies after playing for the Pulse last year.

Professional golfer Amelia Garvey has enjoyed a solid start to her year over in Australia with a couple of top 10 finishes.

Canterbury’s head coach is heading offshore at the end of the month, taking up a role coaching with English County Middlesex. 

But before he leaves, the team will be facing off against Wellington in the Ford Trophy Grand Final.

Both the lease renewal and a full rebuild of the St Leonards Park pavilion have been approved by the Waihoro Spreydon–Cashmere–Heathcote Community Board.
