Speaker 1 (00:00):
Look, I do have to ask you about I mean,
you know, I know that Raisor Robertson is no longer
a coach of the Crusaders, but he has fashioned a
record and given to the heritage of the Crusaders massive
amount massive. We could never probably say what that has
done for the Crusaders in a different way than other
people have already given. But it was a big week.
(00:21):
It was a big Thursday, wasn't it.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yeah, it was, it was, it was really it was
kind of it was very sad, I think in our
environment on Thursday when we found out. And you know,
I worked with Razor for really closely for ten years,
and you know, I've got a lot of admiration for
the man himself and secondly the coach that he is.
And yeah, it's tough to watch someone go through something
(00:47):
so public and you know, the rest of us in
the world, you know, if we lose our jobs, very
few people know about it. But you know, for him,
he's gone through that, you know, in the public view,
and he's got a family and you know that they
go through those things as well, and yeah, I just
I know he'll bounce back. He's a very resilient character,
(01:07):
and you know he will learn from this experience and
other opportunities will surely come his way. So yeah, but
we are we're a little bit sad for him and
his family.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
On another note, you have been part of rugby as well,
issus the Christich Football Club, Rugby Football Club. You've been
part of the black Caps coaching team in your time
as a betting coach. Scott robertson the fact that he
will not be the all Black coach. Now, it's a
tough gig, isn't it. Of all the coaching head coach
positions within this country, it's the toughest one, right.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Oh yeah, I mean yeah, the expectation obviously is that
you know, you win every game, and even if you
win the game and you have to win in a
certain way or by a certain number of points. Yeah,
incredibly tough. And yeah, I think there's probably probably a
case to be made that expectations maybe need to need
to change a little bit. Just will rugby it seems
so competitive. There's nothing really between the top seen or
(02:00):
eight teams, you know, which hasn't always been the case.
But yeah, I suppose you know, you could also argue
that that's what makes New Rugby, the brand or the
success that it has been because the expectations are so high.
So you know, I think I've heard a few other
people say it's never, never nice when someone loses their job,
and certainly for it to be sort of so public. Yeah,
not very President Ale.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Yeah absolutely, And look, we have a franchise rugby system.
We have Super Rugby. It is promoting coaches. New Zealand
Rugby has a say and who gets to coach those franchises.
We end up promoting and developing coaches as well. There's
got to be somewhere where they want to go when
they get better than that. It's a nice headache to have.
I this is what I'm saying, that you're going to
have all these coaches. They end up going overseas, they
(02:42):
come back at some stage somebody makes a decision about
who's going to get the top job. But man, you
have to be brave to take it.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah, yeah you do. And that's I suppose the part that, yeah,
when you're in those sort of roles, you definitely know
what you sign up for. Doesn't doesn't make it doesn't
make it any easier, but yeah, you definitely know what
you sign up for I think that's probably the other
part is that on the outside, everyone's got an opinion.
Everyone's likes to think that they know sort of what's
going on. But you said coaching, coaching is not always
(03:10):
about wins and losses, and you know, there's there's a
lot more that goes into that, and the performance of
the players is it goes a long way to sort
of deciding the success of a coach as well.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Sometimes Well, you've always had a lot of success with
the Canterbury teams, so are you doing a great job.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Well maybe I'm just really lucky you. We've got a
lot of good players here. I think le's leaks.
