Speaker 1 (00:00):
Morning here going very good.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Thanks. Tell us a little bit about where you've come from.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
Originally from a farm to our south of christ Church,
playing for South Canterbury and came up to school up here,
and yeah, I just sort of played played through a
high school.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
And you came up to watch school here.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
I went to Cross College up here. Yeah, first leave
in there, which is good.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
And did you were you a star?
Speaker 1 (00:22):
I wouldn't say that. I have played al right, nothing
nothing to outstanding, but battered and bold and contributed if
I could and winter right, Yeah, left high school, went
to an Auburn Current club which has been fantastic, great
amount of fun there. Sort of been mixed in with
the a's program and especially when they're young, lots of
lots of injuries and niggles and things like that, which
(00:43):
has sort of put a whole time on things previously.
And yeah, just sort of been in the mix this
this sort of year or two with the with the
Kings and the men's squad, so training and things like
that's all come together now. So yeah, staying away from injuries.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Touch was but yeah, blood watching you on the debut
that was fantastic. I think you picked up a couple
of wickets, but you bettered pretty well too. I think
you got fifteen off six and you're a couple of
big sixes.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Yeah. The home debut, the bowling in the first My
actual debut game wasn't wasn't so good. Yeah, the home
debut was, you know, it was good. It was great
fun the first time sort of playing under lights at
Hagler as well, which is which is good in front
of the home crowd.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Always good because you talked about Saint Auban's and the
club and the fact that you've had fun and they've
assisted you in getting where you are today. How has
that happened?
Speaker 1 (01:34):
I started in a team where there was five to
eight guys who had played a lot of Cracker from
twenty seven to thirty five.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
The likes of Aaron Johnson, Ben Langret, James O. Gorman
on I thinking, Matt Holstein, Greg Dawson.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
No, they all assisted, and there was two of us
sort of that had just come fresh out of high
school in that team. And it was awesome though. Great
competitors and great cricketers and great on and off the field,
and just a really good club environment. I suppose with
that that just you know, all of them just chip
in whe whether it's on the field or off the field,
(02:10):
teaching you about the game and how to win and
situations and things like that. So yeah, you just take
bits and bobs from what they say and go from there.
I think I'm building building as well. So I think
a lot of it's to do with balance and put
your best foot forward and what you want to try
and achieve, and sometimes injuries and uncontrollables getting the way
(02:33):
of that. But I think you just got to keep
going and do what's in your best interest and day
by day kind of thing.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
So who do you build for?
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Good dogs? M keller. There's six of us, five or
six of us in that in that cre at the moment.
So yeah, he's based in christ Church, and yeah, it's
been it's been great. He's been awesome with letting me
have days off for trainings and games and things like that.
So that sort of balance being able to play and
train wouldn't wouldn't really happened if it wasn't for that
(03:02):
company and for Angus. So yeah, it's been great.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
I guess maybe next year you'll be hoping for a contract.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Yeah, we'll say. I'm very very sort of as I said,
day to day and week to wake, especially with the
way of going about it this season, it's worth bowling
and staying. But it's just a week to wake thing,
and yeah it'd be great, but yeah, well we'll just
see what happens and weak to wake and day to day.
But obviously there are big plans playing for New Zealand
(03:30):
and playing a lot of games to Canterbury and doing
well for Canterbury and that kind of thing. But yeah,
understanding there's a few steps getting the body right and
that kind of thing is important.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
How cool though, you know, if you look at your progress,
So you come up from South Canterbary, you're at christ College,
you're in mixing and maybe rep circles, you're getting older
and you're into the A program. Then suddenly you're thrust
into the two twenty and the Super Smash competition and
how cool being part of that environment with Canary.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah, no, it's awesome, a great privilege as well. So
I think it's a better work with Chuonquin the sports psychologists. Yeah,
I don't know. Through Club Cracker, especially this season, it's
just taking in the atmosphere and the background and the grounds.
You're playing at and enjoying and enjoying the small things,
(04:23):
and genuinely, when you're enjoying things, result takes cure of itself.
So yeah, it's awesome and really enjoying it.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
And favorite shot.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Probably a nice pool shot.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
And you're bowling right arm medium, Yeah yeah, or fast.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
I like to be fast, but we'll see what happens.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Yeah, can you move the ball both ways?
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Try to? Yeah, try to excellent on a good day.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
And I just love the thought that you play for
a club and there's still an opportunity for club players
to make Canary rip sides top sides.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Yeah, absolutely, Yeah, what we what we talk about a
lot of the time. It's an albans of you know,
doing well at club stuff. And I think you learn
a lot about you know, learn a lot about your
game and club cricket playing against the you know, some
very good players and club sides in the town camp.
So it's certainly a step when you come straight out
(05:19):
of school and then you know, you sort of find
your groove and go from there.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
What form of cricket do you prefer? Do you prefer
the white ball of tea twenty, the fifty over or
the longer form.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
I'd love to play a FOURD A or Yeah, twenty
twenties always pretty fun.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
So that would be your ideal.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Yeah, i'd Yeah, I'd love to play a four A
game with Red Bull. I think I feel like I'd
enjoy that format the most. But the twenty twenty stuff
so I was pretty fun with a crowd there, and yeah,
the way it's.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Set up, well, I hope you have many more opportunities
like that than with that same success.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Go well, thank you very much, appreciate it. That awesome.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
