Means team, Peter Fulton Fults, Good.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
That's the story Ford Trophy final tomorrow in Wellington. Who
you're playing?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
I played since this Central districts beautiful? Yeah, they run
the two v three so yeah, so that it should
be should be good looking forward to it.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Cool? What's uh? What's the what's the conditions like we
were I supposed to be like in Wellington?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
I think they're supposed to be pretty good. I think
the weathers. The weather's okay, so I'm sure there might
be a little bit of breeze up there as they
normal earth that night. The weathers, the weather is good,
so we should have been against You're.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
You've been the head coach of the Cannery Means team
since twenty twenty. You won the Plunket Shield the first competition,
multiple Ford Trophy tournaments as well. But Pete, I guess
the big news coming out of the week is your
decision to move on from Kennery and head away to
Middlesex to talk us through it.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Yeah, just I was just a really cool opportunity that
in some ways I felt like I couldn't couldn't really
turn being down. So yeah, I love love my time
here at Kennbury'd a great, great group of guys to
work with, and yeah, just really really grateful for the
opportunities I've been given here, but your time to find
(01:18):
for a new challenge, It's something I'm pretty excited about.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
The reason for going, Pete. I mean, obviously, you know,
apart from the opportunity to go and coach in England,
what did you feel like there was some roadblocks PEPs
here in New Zealand and you you know there there
was no more real much more you could do here
other than I guess step up and coach the black Caps.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Oh yeah, no, not not necessarily. I mean I said,
I really enjoyed my job. Yeah, we're really happy with
with with my job, what I'm doing here, and family
obviously enjoy really enjoy being here as well. So yeah,
like I said, just test an opportunity to to work
at a different competition, coach different players, and you know,
(02:05):
a bit of a bit of an adventure for the
family as well.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yes, I was going to say that, so the family
is going as well.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Yeah, maybe not not Initially was dispally a bit difficult,
but yeah, eventually that's the that's the plan. So yeah, yeah,
they're looking forward to it as well.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
And what's the details of the contract, not not money wise,
but in terms of the tenure the tenure obviously is
it one two three year contract? Is it all three?
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yeah? Three years? Three years at the stage. So like
I said, it just yeah, we'll just get over there
and get stuck in and and and yeah, see see
how it goes.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
And is that the coach of all three forms of the.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Game pet, Yes, it is, Yeah, it is.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Okay, cool, Well that'll be Yeah, that'll be really exciting.
And gee, I mean one opportunity to immerse yourself I
guess in English cricket, and and I guess all the
the pomp and ceremony that goes with it. But let
let's focus on on this Ford Trophy final tomorrow Central Districts. Yeah.
I mean they've been a handful for for the Canopy
(03:03):
team and a number of tournaments over the last few years.
What are you expecting tomorrow? Nothing least, I guess, No, No, they've.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Got a very experienced team. Yeah. I think when you
when you sort of look at the players they've got
available they've got pretty much at full strength. And yeah,
similar to raft they've got they've got a lot of
guys in the team that have that have played for
New Zealand or played in his ZL and A, so yeah,
really experienced thing. We've had some good battles over them,
they did some as you say, and yeah we've played them,
(03:31):
played them twice already in the Poetraphy this year. It's
one game a piece, so yeah, this will be this
will be a nice little decider.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Indeed, and it's it's it's it's in Wellington. What time
is it going to get underway?
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Ten thirty ten thirty tomorrow, So.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Yeah, in your side night, what have you got? You've
got some of the big guns turning out.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Uh yeah, the same same sort of team that we've
had for the for the for the last few rounds,
obviously minus Cale McConkie who who got the opportunity obviously
got opportunity for him to to head over India for
the T twenty will cut. So yeah, yeah, Tom Latham
and Henry Nichols have been in really good form and
we've also got some young guys like Lofty Harper and
Ronni Kaporta who've made the most of the opportunities this
(04:13):
season as well. So excited for them to be playing
in the final two.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Absolutely, And this is it for you, Pete. So this
game tomorrow, that's it and then you're then you're then
you're away, are you.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah, I'm still I'm still sort of waiting on my
ready the visa and stuff sorted. I don't know exactly
when I'll be off, but yeah, I think just a
little bit cleaner for the for the team if I
if I finish up after this game and then hopefully
as soon as my visa gets gets finalized, I can
I can jump on a plane. So yeah, they said
a little bit a little bit bittersweet tomorrow, I'm sure,
(04:44):
but yeah, I said, hopefully we've got a we've got
one more good performance within us, and yeah, we'll see
how we get on.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Well. Look, mate on behalf of all the cricket fans
and Cannery, thank you very much for for what you've
done for the team. You've been a with the fresh year.

tenure as a coach and from a from a broadcasting
point of view, Mate on behalf of Leslie himself and
Nick and everyone else that works here at News Talks.
(05:13):
You'll be thanks for being so available. It's been it's
great just to pick up the phone and for you
quite often at short notice, but you've got a couple
of minutes and always been invalid way, so we really
appreciate them. Firstly, all the best for tomorrow and then mate,
all the best of Middlesex. Exciting opportunity for you.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, you know, thank you very much mate, mate, not
a problem and yeah, has been available on the phone mate,
It's probably might be a little bit more of a
hospitable time for me seven and a final night in
the UK, so yeah, not a problem.

Fault and the head coach of the can Recruit team.
