Speaker 1 (00:00):
Twenty nine past seven here on the All Sport Breakfast
on New sag ZB. Let's look at Central League football
heading into a sunny weekend around the Wellington region and
our rotation this week sees us look at the women's
competition and a couple of games already played as part
of the Round under Lights. Last night, the Parmeston North
Derby saw Palmerston North United beat Palmeston North Marrist two nil.

(00:20):
Wellington United handed Waterside Corori their first loss of the season. Yes,
the defending champions United winning that one three to two.
So yeah Waterside Corori as it stands still at the
top of the table four from five now with twelve points.
Then pa Tony, Wellington United and Palmerston North United making
up that sort of top four at the moment, but

(00:42):
very congested and a lot of teams breathing down the
neck of Palmeston North United for that fourth spot as well. Well,
let's look at the rest of the weekend's three matches
now and great to welcome in someone that's going to
be helping us out with some of our women's centrally
coverage this year. Alex Curranzy. Morning to you, Alex, good
to have you on board.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Good morning, Adam, thank you so much for having me.
I really appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Great. And for people that don't know, I'm sure many
of our listeners do know, but just in case. You
are the goalkeeper for Seatoon and of course the big
year for seating back in the back in the Central League.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah, yes, it's been a great year already, even with
the games were played. Where really honored to be back
in Central League. The girls fought really hard to get
back in and they winning those games and cups and
now eventual back in the Central League was just fantastic
to bid the girls. So we're really spoked.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Great. Well, le's see, it sounds like I've been good
so far. Well shall we start with your game then?
And it's a trip across town to Victoria University. And
you don't have to be too neutral with this if
you don't want to, Alex, But what's your thoughts on
this game coming up? Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:45):
I know it's going to be an interesting one. It's
kind of like a I want to label like a
middle kind of table potential game kind of you know,
Vic Guney are looking for their first one. But there's
definitely no slouches when it comes to the Central League.
They are coming off a heavy defeat from last week
to Wellington United, so the main question is really how
they're going to respond to that, which is going to
be a really interesting one for us to go up

(02:07):
against the team. I don't think they're going to come
out in any way, shape or form thinking they're going
to lose. I think they're going to do their best
to roll us, which is exciting when they've got some
strong attack there. So it's going to be an interesting one.
On our counterpart, we've actually not played in two weeks
once one of our games been called off because of
this cyclone, so we're just looking to get back on

(02:28):
the pitch and the girls have been working really hard
these last two weeks to you know, look forward to
this game and get us back into it. We took
up this one over Taradale a couple weeks ago as
well to one and it was really nice to get
that one under our belt. So we've got some points.
I know Vick will be looking to take them off us,
so I think it'll be a good chance for us
to maybe underline ourselves as like a nice competitive team

(02:48):
in that middle of the table, but it won't be definitely.
They'll be coming to look for us and claim some points.
So it's'll be a really interesting match in terms of
prediction on who's going to win. But I don't really
want to be byas because they don't want it to
haunt me. But we're definitely looking for the win for sure.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Nice all right, Well, all the very best. One o'clock
on the turf at Boyd Wilson today. That's the one
Saturday game is part of the weekends around a couple
of games tomorrow for Sunday, Shall we start with the
Phoenix at Fraser Park. They've got Miramar Rangers.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Yeah, this one's shaping up to be quite interesting. Actually,
both teams have played pretty well. I would say they're
both quite competitive. They're in similar positions on the table
at the moment, so again Phoenix might not have started
as well as they'd want to and Mirrama having some
really heavy top of the table kind of clashes with
Toni and Kuti, so it's going to be interesting one

(03:40):
for both of them. Obviously, both have also played Palmerson
North United and both taken away a win there, so
they are both coming with some wins into this game
in terms of kind of who's going to sit better.
I think the Phoenix might have a little bit more depth,
So it'll be interesting to see how Miramar go up
against that. They are young academy gill so, but again,

(04:01):
Miramar's got some firepower up front and a really strong
defensive line. So it's going to be, I would say,
actually quite an even match. I don't think there'll be
too much in it, but it'll be one that both
teams will kind of want to establish where they sit
in the league. You know, it does kind of balance
out into you've got your top, your middle, or your bottom.
Neither of these teams are, you know, probably looking at

(04:23):
towards the bottom. No one never is, but it'll be
a good chance for one of these teams just kind
of put that foothold in and go yep. I'm cementing
myself trying to claw up the ladder. For the one
that loses. It might be a little bit of a
murky territory for them, But I do think it's going
to be a little bit tight score wise. I don't
think it's going to be a high scoring game potentially.
I do think the Phoenix will clinch it maybe with

(04:45):
maybe a two to one win, maybe a three to
one win. That'll be interesting to see, all.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Right, look forward to that one eleven o'clock tomorrow. Also
tomorrow midday. Two teams that have had a win so
far the season for Tony in some pretty good form,
but they've got the trip up to Hawk's Bay to
meet Taraday. Well, yeah, just tell us about these trips
up there, Alex. So I imagine that just that travel
always ads a bit of to mention to things.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
It really does. I mean, it's Taradyle's first home game
and so they'll definitely be looking to be like settling
and at home, and there's tough team to beat honestly
any day of the week home or away. And they're
so much more used to travel than a lot of
our Wellington based teams of course, so they'll be definitely
looking to too welcome to Toni with open arms and
they are tough to beat. But Tony obviously coming off

(05:29):
the back of an interesting last couple of weeks with
being united which is huge, but then obviously losing to
Kadori the other weekend. So on paper they're very competitive
and Taradelle's drawn a strong one there, but I wouldn't
count Taradele out necessarily. They can up toteck teams. They
are one of those teams that you know can come
out firing and absolutely annihilate teams at home. So it's

(05:52):
going to be an interesting one. They are developing well
and showing some good strong They didn't beat Marit did
lose Seaton, of course, but they've definitely got some potential there.
On paper, I would say Pattoni do have a little
bit more of that kind of cohesion as a team,
and they obviously coming off the back of the National
League in bits and pieces travel for them, they've obviously

(06:14):
it may be a little bit more used to it
than the rest. So it's definitely going to be a challenge,
but an interesting result that I'm quite looking forward to seeing.
I do think Patni will take it just given you know,
again they are kind of used to that travel from
National League. But again I don't think you'd count to
it out too much. I would say maybe a three
to one there to Patni, but you know, it's bigger

(06:37):
things that happened in this league already. It's shaping up
to be.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Yeah, great, and is that what your really indication? Is
that it's going to be a pretty hard for league
this year.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Yeah, I think so. I mean could already fall from
four at the moment. They're definitely the team to beat,
but it's definitely a good one here to kind of gauge.
I mean, so many of these teams, they're good enough
to take points off the top of the top for
the table. So it's going to be a really interesting
shape up these next few weeks as everyone settles into

(07:06):
the kind of rhythm. You know, we have had a
few changes and games, moves and bits and pieces, so
it is going to be an interesting one to see
how we go.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Brilliant Well, Alex, it's great to have you on board

for your game this weekend too. Thanks for your time
