After the Crusaders' win over the Chiefs to open the penultimate round of Super Rugby, the Hurricanes need just two competition points in their final two matches to cement the top qualifying spot for the playoffs.
They will also guarantee themselves top position with a win over the Highlanders in Wellington on Saturday.

Pasilio Tossy all Black Pripe, who's had a pretty high

Means a lot, especially doing it for this club as
a local where and he'd grown up forty five minutes
to an hour up the road and live in It's
always been a dream to play for this team. One
was one was cool, but being there would have run
out for fifty for this club means a lot. It's
been good starting. Obviously we missed the Big Bro and
seeing him in the jersey, but obviously he misses. He

makes himself present around the environment, you know, especially when
we're doing scrub meetings, leadership meeting. He still lead stuff
off the field as well, so it's still cool to

to training yesterday as the team was running around at
Henry Stadium getting ready for tonight's big derby. I spoke

to co captain Duplessy code for you. He will be
running off the bench tonight following his minor injury last week,
and I called him just after Cat caught him doing
some goal kicking practice.

I asked him what that was all about. There's been
a kicking practice there to finish off training. You're trying
to expand your game at all? No, not at all.
It's the party trick.

He used to play first five when I was when
I was a young fellow, say necessary that I still
got it. But more than a party trick, by the looks,
I don't think they'll be calling on my capabilities anytime
in a game.

That's for sure a sign that the injury is all
all clear and you're good.

To go this week. Yeah, good to go.

Yeah, we've got a great team here at the Hurricanes
who can get our boys back out on the field

by any means. But the week off was a well

Is it nice just as you say that depth, it
takes away that pressure. If I guess any thought of
trying to rush you back sooner than you should be.

It's such a pleasing part of our environment as a depth,
I guess you know, we see with boys like it,
they come in and just just own the role. We
worked really hard to create their depth to be honest
and just happy for the ball is when they get
the opportunities, they go out there and do a great job.

Yeah, well, it's to been most pleasing about where you
find yourself. I think about this time last year, there
was still a bit of a fight to actually make
the playoffs with a couple of rounds to go. Here,
you guys are the team being chased. I mean, what's
from your eyes? What would you be most proud of
the way this team's work together this year?

Well, we definitely learned a lot of a lot of
hard lessons from last year, and we put ourselves in
a bit of a hole earlier in the season, you know,
which we fought really hard to get out of and
made the quarter finals. But you know, it never any
never felt like we were in control of our own
destiny last years. I think this year it certainly feels
like we are, which is not easy to come by. So, yeah,
(04:43):
we just got to keep doing what we've been doing
well and you're doing up here, and there's a lot
of last there's good vibes.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Is that something you've tried to sort of instills this
team and this team as a leader.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Yeah, it's a nice observation. It's not manufactured at all.
That's just the natural feel of the group. You know,
when loss, we're never too high and never too low,
and we just try to enjoy each other's company.

But we do so naturally.

There's so many of us who have played together in
this group for upwards of fifty games.

I think we've got another couple of boys running out

But I had the chance to speak to him the
other day and just as the MANA and Or he
has in this team, special guys and really cool, malest
time for him to celebrate and after a busy year

Yeah, he's the gift that keeps on giving early.

He's got everything, but above above all, he's got a
huge heart and there's something that we really cherish here

who have supported him along the way, and same for

something that he thought was on the cards. But you know,

we're grateful to have him here and young Tom Ellen
running out for his debut. He's yeah, it's a testament
I guess his perseverance and his willingness to stay at it.
He's been with the crew for the best part of
two years now. Say for him to finally earn a
debut as actually well deserved. He contributes a lot to
the group and you know we're all just happy for him.

I know you don't spend much time early in the
season looking at the table, but I guess you look
at this game and a five pointer tomorrow would be
a good way to nail that top spot. You know,
how important is that for the team to take that
equation more seriously come this point of the season.

Like I said earlier, we're in control of our own
destiny and where things four come the finals. I feel
like the risk those when you start to look at
what you need to achieve a certain thing, for example's
top spot, you know, we start looking at what that
looks like and start thinking about worst case scenarios. So
it's important for us to keep an even keel there

and just go about our work like we have been
all year, which is, you know, preparing weekly and trying
to win games. And obviously, if we can do that
over the next couple of weeks, then the things that
we're talking about will come true, like finishing first in
the in the regular season. So yeah, it's definitely something
we as leaders acknowledge, but we never want to make
it about things other than.

You know, Highland is some tough kind of last months
for them, tough couple of injuries for them the right
