Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's talk rugby though, in the parlaments of plymous And
Rugby Club with the National Club Sevens champions last year,
so what does that mean? Well, they have the hosting
rights for this year's national event, so in two weekends time,
the White Tonguey Long Weekend NATI Tower Domain will have
a bit of a buzz to it hosting the twenty
twenty six edition of the National Club Sevens. I wanted
to check in and find out how the preparations are

(00:22):
going Paraplum's Director of Rugby as Gerard Fusservalu, who's with
us now? Morning to Gerald, I guess all the planning
began back when you guys won the thing last year.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Oh definitely, definitely good to have a young Adam mum. No, no,
it's good to cup to host the National Middlesex Wavehalled
Club Tournament. It's not often a top from Onnington gets
the host because a majority of clubs are from north
of their plenty who tend to win it most most years.

(00:53):
So for us to host it down here and have
it done to Wannington and especially all the week of
White Tonguey, it'll be it for just the Wellington communities
that they're rarely around and support the event.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yeah, we'll get to the eventually, but just want to
talk about, you know, the result last year pretty special,
as you say, compared to you know often those those
clubs are up north to get it. How special is
that for the club just having that title under your
belt before you're prepare to host things.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Oh, it's too different than for those who've who've attended
and gone to the tournament. There's been a few clubs
from Wellington. It's not an easy tournament to win, especially
outside of Wellington in the Hurricanes region that they are
not too many seventh tournaments from sort of November three
to February, where as opposed to the Bay of Plinny

(01:39):
White Cuttle and all of Walkingon they tend to have
ongoing tournaments. So teams who do come into the tournament
pretty much really to go as opposed to the club
sort of Wellington and even in the South Island, there's
not too many tournaments to go around. And I mean
for us we went to last year, we were in
the biggest team there, but we were sure one of
the Polly that's not the fifth team there, So there

(02:01):
was a huge effort on our part and then the
boys to get through that. And obviously you have the
branding rights to host this year's National Tournament and.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
No one will be forgetting the dates, Jared, because it's
the club Seven's on February seven.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Yeah, that's right. Yeah, And a good preparation for the
teams that do tea part of the National Tournament leading
into their fifteenth season, you know, I mean in years
gone by, I mean the first one in the club
to win it was, but only in ninety seventy three
and year the likes of Andy Leslie, Don Dugan and
Alan Houston and then obviously Andy Leslie went on the
following in ninety seventy four he kept in the All

(02:37):
Blacks on their Southisfcant tour. So it's a good stepping
stone for a lot of players there and a lot
of clubs.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
How many clubs have you got turning up to this?
Have you sort of confirmed numbers yet in terms of
teams and the way the week you will play out?

Speaker 2 (02:51):
And that's what we've got fourteen confilmed teams, so it's
pretty much the winners of every provincial union. And what's
the tournament being hosted in Wellington? Us hosting it's almost
that middle ground, so teams from the north top of
North Island as well as a team from South Island.
There's a lot easier to travel where's you know. Over
the last couple of years on has been hosted in Auckland.

(03:11):
It's quite hard from a financial perspective for being from
the Southland who sort of spend two three days away
and therefore guys to turn around and get back to
work on that following week. So having fourteen fourteen teams
locked in to date with a few teams I think
six teams that are on standby in the event where
some teams may may fall out in the last week.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
And so Natita is going to be kind of transformed
into a bit of a faestival by the looks.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Well, that's the plan des between anywhere, Well, hopefully the
winner guys are on our side. On the week of
White Tonguey, so Saturday the February the seventh, that's the
full day tournaments and we have pretty much a full
range of marquees and think one along down ninety toward
the main with food vendors, drink vendors, you know, for
both non alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. A lot of sponsors

(04:00):
will be there, so it should be a good day
as well as the night before on Friday, the sixth
of February, which is the White Thing Day. Here's a
Q and A being hosted by Ken laban our local
TV man Sky TV Men. He'll be doing a Q
and A with Sward and Fitchens and Karen Orblexist and
hr Tarmody Allison.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Well, well that will be interesting hearing from Tarmody Allison
given everything that's been going on.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Okay, I mean it's mean to be a Q and
A about humans. I think it's going to be directors
to what going on. Rangers are part and you know
where there are at the moment, so I think, you know,
being open Q and A. I think you know, you
know people are for art questions and however that pans out,
but it should be a good evening and a good weekend.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Yeah, because I wanted to ask here and help. Can
people best support the club for this? People listening around Wellington.
Is it just simply coming along on the Saturday, Is
it getting tickets to that event on the Friday night
or or just a combination of it.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
All A pol collition in all of it. It is
an open event so that there's no charge, no cover times.
So bring the family down, bring the kids down, you
know kids. I mean as long as the top chips here,
I'm sure the kids would have loved it. And also
you know for being a playground lot too, you know
at the same venue. You know, kids can put around there.
And you know, a couple of beaches. I had a

(05:16):
beach spot around Nati Sautter, Maine. Uh, there's a lot
of things to do, uh for for that weekend.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Well, I'll have just up the road from Nazi Tower
and I'll tell you what. Hearing that there's going to
be some liquor licenses there. I'm tended to come down.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
I'll definitely come down, simply come down with your rubbie
shoulders who been around the ones in the reggae scene
and national scene. So it'll be a great spectacle, you know,
the both Matt Prince All has done a great job
walk the seven's program, but also the committee and subcommittee
have been really busy in hands on in terms of
you know, the preparation of him getting it really so

(05:50):
it should be an exciting weekend.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Yeah, And I guess and most all of us. Jared,
you've got a you've got a team that I'm sure
wants to defend its title as well.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
I absolutely thinking goes that's you know, it's hard winning here,
but it's even harder trying to try to defend the
title in and we would like to keep this tournament
here in Willington again. So the delays, they have been training
the house down, so it's not long ago now, so
it's two weeks away, so it'll be a great spectacle.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Amazing, Jared. The people are listening and do want to
find out more information or maybe even get some tickets
to that Q and A on the Friday night, which
sounds like it'll be fascinating. Ken Laban So Gordon Titchens
and Tarmoty Allison. Where can people find those tickets or
more information?

Speaker 2 (06:34):
They can jump on our club Rugby site, Plymouth and
Rugby Club. They can jump there all our Instagram handle.
So we'll put up a lot more information in regards
to the Q and A session the Friday night as
well as all the information you know people need leading
into the Saturday tournament. There will be limited parking, so

(06:56):
but there's a train station the mana train station as
right there, so it's us two wedeks you to walk
from the training session too, Nutsy towards the.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Main wonderful Gerard. Hey, it sounds like an amazing weekend
coming up on on the long weekend, so good luck
with the rest of your planning, mate, and we'll we'll
definitely keep in touch both beforehand and during the weekend
to check in on how things are going. So thanks
for your time. Make can you go maid and you go, well.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
No, thank you. We'll catch up there with you. For
