Hannah Wignall previews the weekend's Central League football women's competition

Hannah Wignall joins Adam Cooper to preview the weekend's action in the women's Central League football competition.

Let's go straight to football now, talk the Central League.
Our rotation this week sees us talking the women's competition,
and Hannah Wignall is back with us. God I, Hannah,
good morning. All right, well let's get into it. Obviously,
the season's getting closer to crunch time with the table
permutations and everything. Let's start off a bit later this morning, Hannah.
Patoni hosting Wellington Phoenix. What are you expecting of this

one here at Patony Memorial Park.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
I think this is going to be a really good game,
a really close game, Pa TONI will see all of
their games leading up to the end of the season
as must wins. We know that there's a twenty twenty
six National League spot on the line. Patoni are currently
second in the league thirty two points. Phoenix are fifth

in the league on twenty three points. The last time
these two teams played each other, but Tony won three
to one, no goals in that game until the seventy
third minute when Chelsea Whitaker broke the deadlock. Phoenix were
able to immediately fin back with a goal in the
minute later, but the Phoenix were unable to find anything

more in the tank and Tony got another two goals
in the last minutes of the game. Phoenix team they
play somewhat predictable formula. The aim is to teach these
players what good structure and teamwork looks like. They could
surprise us, however, I think Tony are definitely the strongest
side here and the favorites to win. They're at home,
so let's give it to them, all right.

And in a similar time vic Uni will have the
trip up to Palmers to North Maris and both these
teams will be eager to get away from where they
are down their bottom end of.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
The table totally and this will be again considered a
must win for both of these two teams. Palms North
Marris their ninth in the league on four points. Their
one win has come against vic Guney the last time
they played each other, a goal from Kaylee Fergus in
the fortieth minutes that killed them the win. Vic Guni
they're sitting just above them on eighth place. They've got

five points with one win two drawers. Their win came
from an eight to victory over Taradale, who are now
out of the competition as we know, so bottom of
the table clash could go either way. An interesting stat
for this game is that Visit on a goal difference
of negative forty six, Pami on negative sixty eight. So

I think if you were to look at who's more
likely to keep the opponent out, you'd say vic Uni.
And I know vic Uni are incredibly good at set pieces,
so I'd give it to them, all right.

That one's at eleven thirty at one three plays four
but still sort of separated by a fair few points.
What a side Corory and Palmas and North United?

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Yeah? Yeah, So for Coori, I must win for them.
They're needing to keep points and get points to have
that chance of a National League twenty twenty sixth season spot.
They're currently third place in the league, Palmers North United
below them on twenty six points. As you said, five

point difference. This will be a great game. It's a
grudge match, grudge match for Coori. The last time these
two teams played each other, Palmerston North United one two
nil in an upset a goal at forty five minutes
from Annabelle Irwin, with a follow up after halftime from
Carmen Sue that United are traveling to Wellington, so as

a gonna be h you know, that have that away feel,
and I know Couldori will make it as hard as
possible for them when they get onto the pitch, but
Palmers North United will have a belief that they can
take the game. If the weather holds, and they could
already pitch holds, then then we could see a really

evenly contested game. If the weather turns, I think that
could have a massive impact on the game. I watched

of weeks ago, and half the pitch was a bog
so could be could be another Palmers North United win?
But could AORAI a favorite?

Some paper all right, and then wrapping up the weekend's
action tomorrow, your Seaturon team, and I know you've been
bat playing for the premiere Seaturn team Henna after a
long injury absence, So tell us how everyone's feeling ahead
of the clash with Mirmar Rangers at David Farrington.

Yeah, we're really excited as always. I mean, I think
the team really cool thing about the Seaturon team is
everyone's up for it every game. They love the battle,
they love a fight, even if we're underdogs. It doesn't
seem to bother them, so it's a really cool environment
to be in. This game is actually going to be
quite a close game. It's a local peninsula derby. They're

setting six in the league on nineteen points. Seaturn were
just below them on fourteen points. I think it will
be fun game. It's also going to be an exciting
game because we've introduced a new cup for the two
teams to battle it out at the Stoddart Cup. The
name of the cup reflects an enormous contribution that Alexia

Studdart makes both our clubs and for women's football and Wellington,
so the cup will be contested whenever the two first
teams play. The last time Mirramar and Seton played each other,
Merriama took the win. It was a three to one
free one victory. This weekend we head to David Farrington

(05:20):
in Merrima to play. We've only lost one of our
last five games and so we've been really finding our
feet in the league and we're really excited to get
out there. I think we could see Seaton taking back
the cup all right.
