Round two of football's Chatham Cup features a mouth-watering contest between the two leading teams in the Central League, Wellington Olympic and Miramar Rangers.
Joe Serci from the Tackld Podcast joins Adam Cooper with his thoughts on the weekend's action.

us talking the men's game, So time to preview Round

Good morning to you and you're right. Local football in
Wellington is what we were chatting about. But in some
ways I wish it was local football and bonosaris. Tim
Payne is at the World Couples Standing period the World
Cup in Florida with the rest of the All Whites
and he would have woken up. And he's got over
a million followers on his Instagram due to the fact

that an Argentine and Argentinian football influenza on TikTok and Instagram.
What he did was a bit of research to see
who was the least followed player. He found Tim Payne
thought that would be an uncontroversial player to put forward
and now Tim Payne has over a million followers I
think this is bigger than lotto for Tim.

Could well be a million counting too, Joe. It's very
impressive stuff, isn't it? For a rather unassuming sort of guy,
pretty low key sort of guy.

Well, you know, a defensive wing back for Wellington Phoenix
in many ways you look at his account, probably doesn't
nurse it, doesn't manage it as some of the other
players do, but will deserved. I sort of feel maybe
me and you will be next with our social media.

Well we'll sit here hoping, Joe. Let's look at the
weekend's action and before we get into the Chatham Cup
fixtures today as part of the round are obviously centrally
taking a bit of a pause aside from one catch
up game this weekend. A what have you made of
were things sit? At the moment?
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Well Central League has reached its midpoint, so the first
nine rounds have been played and Wellington Olympic have crept
back up to the top. They are leading on gold
difference over Mirramar. Last weekend Mirama lost their first game.
It was away added in a park against West bit
of a blemish to finish, shall we say? The first

half of the Central League four Miramar Rangers. The previous
week they had beaten visiting Napier City Rovers. Boy, that
was a tough game. I called that one. It was
almost like wwe Adam. It was physical, it was a
tough battle. They then went to West and that was
more of a strategic game, more of a tactical game.

So it was almost like WWEE meets Chess. All in
the space of a week. Four Miramar. A big win
for West because it keeps them in the picture in
the top four. Interesting stats with West though, so in
the first nine games, I've played six of them at home,
so the second round they've only got three home games
and they're going to have six games away. But in

looking at their stats as well, six of the nine
games they've played West, six of the nine games I've
played have been clean sheets, so they're keeping it tight
in the back. As you alluded to. On today, Napier
City Rovers will play Island Bay. This is a catch
up game because a few weeks ago there was that
cycling warning in the North Island. Island Bay didn't travel

up to Napier on that occasion. I think with this game,
Napier should win it and then they'll join Olympic and
Miramar on twenty two points. West sits a little bit behind.
And the reason they sit behind, Adam, I've been talking
to you about the Peloton and the breakaway group. It
finally happened. One of the teams from the Peloton, from

the bottom six teams has scored points from the top
four teams. That was Waterside Corry scoring a tool draw
against Wests. So those two points that West loss means
that slightly down a peg. They're on twenty points.

All right, Well, that will be interesting to see where
that catch up game goes. Okay, well, let's look at
the Chatham Cup. Eight Wellington based games from the Central
Zone as part of Round two nationwide of the Chatham Cup.

Obviously most of them will played over the course of
the long weekend. I guess when you look at all
late listed on paper, there's certainly one in particular that
gets a big, big bold circle.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
You're one hundred percent correct. It is Mrramar Rangers against Olympic.
These two teams met as first round of the Chatham
League and it was a one all drawer. It was
almost a game of two halves. Olympic got out of
the Gate. They scored early in the first half. Mirramar
Rangers then dominated the second half. We're talking about one
of the Olympics. They are the defending cup holders. I'm

sort of thinking Wakefield Park. This should be a good
number of followers for supporters for the Greeks at this fixture.
In some ways, I'm thinking Mirramar Rangers done more infused
by doing well in the Central League. Mermound Rangers still
got a few injuries from that Napier City Rovers clash.
I think the Olympic, one of the Olympics will hold on.

If you miss this fixture today, don't worry next weekend
it is Mirramar Rangers versus Olympic back at Wakefield Park
the Central League, so it's a double header for these
two teams. It'll be an interesting competition. It will be
a tight tussle. It should be a good one. I'm
expecting a few people to be out there at Wakefield Park.

A good game to watch in terms of a Channel
Cup fixture, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Two o'clock kickoff there and any of the other fixtures.
Taking your interest in particular.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Joe, well, all I want to say is if you
don't can't make it to Wakefield Park. Across the board,
there's good games going on in Seatune. They're taking on
Upper Hot City. This could be the boilover. So it's
a Central League two team that's Seatune that's sort of
been inconsistent taking on Upper Heart City. Tawer they're taking

on Stop Out, so that's an all Central League two fixture.
And then Patany taking on Greaytown at Memorial Park, Great Town.
Interesting story there. They've got a few celebrities playing for them.
That could be an upset as well. But the other
and that I would definitely recommend if you are looking

for a Channel Cup fixture. It's actually on Wednesday night
at Paterni Memorial. It is Phoenix Reserves against Island Bay.
It's a seven thirty pm kickoff. These are two closely
matched teams from Central League One. When they last time
they met it was at phrase as A Park and
Phoenix took the honors. But Island Bay didn't have their

coach there. He was away in Australia looking after the
women's on the twenties team. He's back and it'll be
interested to see the difference of coach makes brilliant.

Well yeah, eight games in our region as part of
obviously games up and down the country this long weekend. Well,
great to catch up as always, joke. Thanks to your

special note. If you are driving past Henry Stadium, you'll
see a lot of activity because this weekend it is
the Cancer Society Relay for Life. Lots of secondary school
students and I guess survivors of cancer, people who feminine
family members maybe succumb to cancer. It's a huge fundraiser.
