Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's continue to look around the local sporting fields and
courts heading into another weekend here on Wellington and next
on the list of previews, what's happening in Central League
Men's football. Joe Cercy, out of the Tackled podcast, back
with us moyne. Do you joking us me? Busy and
exciting weekend of football for our city, isn't it?
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yeah? Our capital is becoming the capital of football as
well or cementing its place as the capital of football.
And it'll be totally remissing me, Adam not to wish
the Wellington Phoenix team all the best in the Ninja
A League Final later today, after having watched them play
at Floral Park on Sunday, I say, bring on the
(00:38):
parade next week.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Absolutely, we can only hope and we wish them all
the very best for tonight. Plenty more to come on
the show through the morning on that too. And Joe,
we last spoke a couple of weeks ago when you
use the cycling analogy for the palette on the breakaway
and all that for the Central League Men's competition. We'll
give us an update a couple of weeks on how
that's tracking well.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
I'm glad you remember that, Adam. I think everyone that
follows the Central League has noted that four teams have emerged.
When we chatted a couple of weeks ago, I think
the gap between the Peloton, the Peloton's the main bunch
of teams and the breakaways the top four teams, I
think it was three points at the moments it's seven
(01:20):
points and we're still to have a Peloton team get
a drawer there alone a win against any of the
top four. And if we're talking about the top four, yes,
big game tonight with the Wellington Phoenix playing in that final,
and I'm looking forward to your chat with Ali Walker,
who's been a big part of that Phoenix success. But
(01:43):
locally at David Farrington, we've got a huge one. It's
Miramar play Napier City Rovers. These teams are unbeaten and
that neither of them have lost the game. The only
blemishes on their records was opening round. They both drew
their matches. And you know, if we're looking at these
teams records defense, Napier has only conceidered one goal in
(02:08):
their six games. Mirramart they also have four clean sheets.
The three games where I've considered a goal. There was
only one, so expected type one. I think both teams
will feel a little bit of pressure with this game.
Both are looking to protect their records. I talked to
Northern irishman the striker from Norma and Napier City Rovers,
(02:31):
Leo Brown, and one thing he mentioned was he's mean
and joined the bus ride home. But let's remember every
time Leo's come to Wellington they've scored three points and
he said to me he would hate to be doing
that long journey home without scoring a win. One last
point about this game. Have a look. Well, one player
(02:52):
to watch might be Mirama's Adam Houston. He's originally from
the South Island. He played for Napier City Rovers, but
the A he transferred to Mirrormale Rangers, so he's probably
someone who's familiar with both camps. Should be a tight one.
I'm going to sit on the fence. I think something
like a one all draw.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
All right, well, there we go. It sounds like a
great one that kicks with out the afternoon's action. David
Farrington Park, get along if you're out and about today,
let's go to Karori Park. Joe, what is like Corory
at home against West.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Well West is one of the top four and if
you look at the Golden Boot who scored the most
goals this season, one of the players on the list
is American Cole Carr. For West, he's on five. I
think he'll be looking at this picture to add to
his tally.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Very good the Phoenix and the big weekend for the
club the Mens Academy team with Adam but United at
Fraser Park.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Look, I think I have said this every week with
the Phoenix, I'm looking at the end of eighth place.
They've only won one, they've drawn one. I look at
their squad, They've got players there who've played a league
and I'm like they're in the they seem to be underperforming. Meanwhile,
Ireland Bay, they started the season with a four zero
win over Waterside Corry. They then played each of the
(04:09):
top four teams in consecutive weeks. Once they finished playing
the top four, they scored a five zero win against
FC Western before one win against Upper Hat at Maidstone Park.
So when you look at Island based form against other
teams in the Peloton, They've scored ten goals only considered one.
(04:30):
They've got nine points from those three fixtures. I'm thinking
Ireland Base should do okay in Fraser Park, but I
don't think that will dent Wellington Phoenix celebrations this weekend.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yeah exactly, all right. Then at three forty five Wakefield
Park Olympic at home hosting Patani.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Well again when he's an Olympics started the season below
path for their normal, you know, high standards. They played
the other three teams in the top four since the
end scored playing teams from the peloton, they've scored eighteen goals,
so they're on a bit of a run. Give some
for to Potoni in terms of you know, being in
(05:10):
the peloton. Playing the top four teams that coming off
the back of two one million losses and that was
against Napier City Rovers and West at Indeva Park. I
still think one of the Olympics will win, but Botany
they'll keep them honest, all right.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
This should be a good occasion there and the one
game on the Sunday this weekend, Upper Hat City have
the trip up to take on FC Western. Thoughts on
this one Joe up at Lynmouth Park.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Well Upart City started the season with two wins since
then played all of the top four teams that lost
to that lost to Ireland Bay probably a little bit
of concern for the team, especially because it was at
home at Maidstone Park, and honestly, since they returned to
Central League One last season, Madstone Park hasn't been a
(05:59):
gold field for Upper Heart. So they go into another
corner of the country, another corner of the North Island.
They should expect success with their travels up to New Plymouth.
And on another note, well done FC Western last weekend
against Miramar of all teams, they scored their very first
goal of the season. As I say, I think the
(06:22):
boys from the Upper Art Valley don't get the points
on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Very good, all right? That one is the sole Sunday
game as part of the weekend's round. Before you go, Joe,
obviously we had Chatham Cup last week. A few teams
had the buy and jeez, speaking of teams that had
the buye, there's an interesting matchup being drawn for round two.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah, Wellings and Olympic. We'll be hosting Mirrama in round two.
Special fort for Miramar, so they are about to go
through a very tough journey. Obviously today against Napier. Then
they've got Wests, then they've got the Chatham Cup fixture,
which is the King's Birthday weekend, the long weekend and
then they play Olympic again, so a real big test
(07:03):
there for Jamie O'Connor and the boys from the Peninsula.
See how they go. We'll start this afternoon.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Though, absolutely what a stretch and you look forward to
chating that one in a couple of weeks time. Joe.
Great to catch up as always, mate, Enjoy your weekends,
football plenty to watch and we'll chat zone.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
