Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's be good as always though through the summer months
by talking bowls and Rod Leach, board member of Bowls Wellington,
is with me in the studio this morning today Rods morning.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Adam going to be back busy Dave.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
For Bowls an exciting one too and nice that the
weathers come right for finals of Vinda Club. We'll get
to that in the moment because firstly, a couple of
things to wrap up. We had a rip game that
you talked about, or a couple of REP events that
you talked about last weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yeah, we kicked off the rep season last weekend with
the open men playing at Palmeston Development Men and Levin
and Development Lady Levin and the ladies open side went
to Fox and Beach. But a great result for Wellington
all around. We won all four disciplines. There's two trophies
up for grabs as a men's trophy and a Lady's trophy,
but so we won them both obviously because we won
all four disciplines. So it was a really good kickoff
(00:42):
to the season. Our next game is on the thirteenth
of Feeds only a couple of weeks ago. The men
open Men are going to Napier. The Open ladies are
going to Gisbon and the development side or junior side
is playing the hex Sagonal. They just a two day event.
We're an octagonal they're playing there is I think it's
in living again, So not too many changes to the
(01:03):
teams that them. Our open team has changed slightly through
player run availability and Robbi Bird has come back into
the mix. He's back up and running, so we interesting
to see how he goes. He's playing in a big event.
It's Capity singles this weekend and that'll be a big
test for fitness and stuff, and he's confident he's up
to it, so we know he's got their ability.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Great all right, Well, look forward to hearing how he
goes this weekend. Some penet's action as.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Well pennance action. Yeah, Wednesday the men's pennance kicked off
again after all the rain and stuff we've had. So
on Wednesday we've played Johnson. Will's gone back into the
lead in the in the Wellington Division, which is a
great result because this is very very hard tournament. People
don't believe how hard this toilement is. It's even I
believe it's tougher than the end of club, but they'll
get the cops of Flat for that. So Johnsonill's gone
into the lead on twenty six, Island Bay twenty three,
(01:45):
Plymoton eighteen, Victoria seventeen, TWA fourteen and Miramar ten. There's
still four rounds to go, but two of those rounds
johns will play Island Bay twice because of rainoffs that
we've had. In the Valley Event nine I have slipped
out a week, but they're on third see silver Stream
twenty five, twenty four, Up Up, twenty two, Stokes Valley,
y Neuis Stakes Valley four and y Nui three, so
(02:06):
they'll be out of the mix, but still anyone's there.
They've got four rounds to go and the Ladies kicks
off again early February.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
All right, well it's not far away now right, Big
day into club playoffs sends some new champions to be
found for us.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Yes, well new maybe carry through champions. The Ladies playoff
for the team that wins the round robin, the initial
round robin or the minor premiership as we call it,
they get to host finals day. So Johnsville are hosting
the Ladies up a Johnsonville. So if anyone's keen disease.
Some good balls get along and have a look. They're
not going to charge it to get in. They might
even have a barbecue game. So at Johnsville we've got
Johnsville playing Stokes. Well it's a round robin, but Johnsvill,
(02:40):
Stokes Valley, Plymoton and nine. I now, Johnsonville won the
event the round robin clearly, so they'll go in firm favorites.
But who knows. And in the men's Stokes Valley won
the minor premiership. So we're out there at Stokes Valley,
at Stokes Valley, Johnsville, Tarwar and Victoria. Now they tell
me that no team that's won the minor premiership has
ever got on to win the finals day, so they
(03:02):
host it, but they've never gone on to on it.
So Stakes Valley will be hoping to change that. I've
been told not to pick Johnsonville because I've ever picked them.
They lose, So let's put them at the bottom of
the table and see if they can they can do better.
But we wish them all all all the best out
there tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
And the old reverse psychology, Yes, indeed, I like it,
And I imagine Stokes Valley be open for anyone that
wants to come and have a look too.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Oh definitely, Yeah. I've got a big day planned out there.
They've got the ber tent up, they tell me in
the barbecue going so great. There'll be some great bowls
out there too. So yes, by all means front.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Of perfect Johnsonville and Stokes Valley for Playoff's day and bowls.
When does it all get underway?
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Rod?
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Does it sort of late mornings?
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Starts this morning? I think eight thirty sort of trial
ends and that it might be a nine o'clock kickoff.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
I think yeah, okay, great, so action all through the day,
day round, some power bowls action coming up, seeking entries.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Paara Bowls Year were seeking entries for that. We run
a singles and peers para bowl event at nine I
on the seventh and eighth of March. So any of
the pair of guys or girls that want to get
into that, get onto the website, get your entry in
because it is becoming quite a sought after event.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Great. Appreciate the update, Rod, Good luck with some of
those predictions, and we'll see how they pan out next Saturday.
