Speaker 1 (00:00):
I hope you long weekend to start it off. Well,
(00:01):
it's great to be back for twenty twenty six and
let's start things off by chatting bowls and Rod Leech
Chatter Bowls Wellington back with us.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Morning to rodin. Happy new year morning Adam. Great to
be back and great to get the season up and
running again.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Yeah great, Well, I know it's been quite busy through
the summer and there's been quite a notable result from
a Wellington perspective at a national level worth reporting on.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
National event ESA were held in christ Church just recently
the last week or so and Adrian Brown from Silverstream
One was in the winning team for the National Open
Disability Peirs. So he won that with Riley Patterson who's
from Bellcluther. It was a composite team but that's a
huge result for Adrian. And just on another note, with
the power of teams, there's the bowls. New Zealand is
(00:40):
now involving the power of teams in the Interceenter competition,
so there will be a men's and women's power team
and that Adrian must be a great chance to be
playing in that. We wish him well.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Great fantastic result. Congratulations to him right into club by
a very decisive previous round has been held.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yes, we had that last round back in December. So
the top four have now been finalized for the playoffs
coming up. So the top four and the men Stokes
Valley with the Minor premiers I've won that they will
come up against Victoria, Johnsonvill and Tawa in the women's event.
Johnsonville were a clear winner in the Minor Premiership and
they have nine I Stokes Valley and Plymoton, so Stokes
value on both events, Johnsville and both events. And yeah,
(01:18):
that will be played. I think it's sometime. Fair haven't
got the exact day. With that division, that Premier division,
we have every division. Actually we have promotion relegation, but
it's because we only house ten teams in the Great
and we have twenty odd clubs, so clubs are striving
to get in there. But the teams that were sadly
relegated this year from the men were Patni Central and
Wine were Mater Whine. We were only in for the
(01:39):
one year and out, so they go from the men's division.
And the woman had Patoni Central as well and Miramar
going out. So Patoni Central didn't have a great year.
The team's coming up from two. Silverstream get back into Premiere.
They've been in and out over the years, but they
thoroughly deserve a spot up there. And Island Bay get
back on a count back against Lyle Bay. It was
(02:00):
very very close Div two had. The Island Bay team
had a great round against Johnsville. I can say that
because I didn't plan it, but they won all three
games with a bonus point and that got them level
with Lyle Bay on points. But because of countbacks and
stuff that went in their favor to go up. So
Lyle Bay are Auntie Johnsall and Island Bay are are
loving us and in the woman's event, Lyle Bay come
(02:22):
up to premiers which is great, and Island Bay as well.
So Alam Bay had a good year.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah, congratulations to them to two from two in terms
of promotion. Let's also look back on some penance during
the week.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yes, penance that's kicked off again or for the men
it has the ladies don't kick off till later and fair,
but the men have kicked off great competition. The Wellington
Grade currently Island Bay on twenty one, Johnsville on twenty
t BA fourteen Victoria Plymoton fourteen, Victoria eleven and Mirrimar ten,
so that we have had a rain off round, so
Island Bay have got it. Sorry yeah, Islan Bay have
(02:52):
to play Johns for twice yet, so that's where we'll
be hoping to get back into the mix or get
ahead of them in the Hut Valley's own nine I
lead on twenty four up at twenty two, Silverstream nineteen,
Hut eighteen, Stokes Valley four and Wynui three, so that
those top four are still a big chance to You've
got to win the grade to make the playoff.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah. Great, and some peers have been held as well.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah, we had the Prestige Peers, which is a lady's
event that's been going since the nineteen eighties and it
used to be you had to have won a club
title to plan the event. We're unsure if that rule
still stands, but it's a great event and the ladies
love paying it. This year was an all nine I final,
with Leoni Goff and Tina Steer coming out the winners
over Pat Dixon and Kathy Cross from nine oh at
(03:33):
sixteen ten.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Great, all right, awesome, Now we've got this weekend obviously
know when's a club with that top four sorted in
the preme competitions, but some junior events at me across
the way.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Junior events, it's just used to be just purely a
Hut Valley event, but they've opened up to the wider
Bolls Wellington group now, which is great. It has been
for the last couple of years. They have thirty two
teams in the event. Some clubs like to enter three
or four, but we've had to relegate teams out because
it's very popular and we've had to cut back on
some of the entries. But it's played at Silverstream. The
Triples is on Saturday, that's the Gibbons Trophy and on
(04:03):
Sunday is the MacArthur Henry Shield and that's the fours.
So great event for the juniors. Great for them to
be able to put their hand up going forward for
the rest of the season.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Wonderful all right, well, all the best for them across
the weekend. Hope the weather plays ball as well. Great
to have you back, Roder. We'll Chatnick Saturday.
