Speaker 1 (00:00):
News talks ev on the All Sport Breakfast that is
twenty away from eight. Time to preview the weekend's action
now in Wellington Club Rugby. Adam Julian as our man
right across things all through the season for us. Morning
to you, Adam, Morning, Adam.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hopefully the weather is better than last Saturday. Some real
challenges in that Round three Paramount of Plymouth and Avalon
didn't play at a flooded NATI Tier domain. That game
to be rescheduled.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
They had to get pretty wilds, didn't it right?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Well? Adam?

Speaker 1 (00:27):
That should we start out east where it's probably starting
to get a little bit desperate for poniic here looking
at their first wins still hopefully for them today at
home at Kilberny Park hosting Tawa.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Absolutely Pornicky have had a horror beginning to the season,
losing all three matches. Last year they only lost five
in the whole season, but unfortunately they're playing a Tawa
side which has suddenly stacked. Remember tar Will were abysmal
in round one forty eight to three losers to Botoni,
but they've won twice since Mars Saturday. They had a

(01:00):
momentous thirty eight to twenty three Pats, marking Randall Bishop's
two hundredth game, and tomorrow they have some serious cattle back.
Jacob Denya, the young Hurricanes under twenties winger and fallback,
returns from injury, as does Maori all Black camera Jueti Patapata,
and they also have Patire the Hurricanes loose forward who's

(01:24):
played a single appearance this year and made such a
damaging impression in twenty twenty five. So a tough slog
ahead for Pornecki.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Unfortunately all right at Patni Recreation Grounds. Per TONI looking
to continue their one hundred percent records so far, and
they've got Johnsonville. I've got the one win to.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Their name and Johnson Ball's first win was last Saturday
and the slush of Helstone Park against Wellington, and it
was a vital win for the Hawks, who had blown
twenty one and nineteen point halftime leads in their first
two games.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
To lose last Saturday. They were very resolute on defense,
won their line out possession, which was a problem in
their second half collapse against Norse, and their experienced outside
backs like Jacob Wolfsey and Nile Della Hunty performed strongly
but This is a tough assignment for the Hawks, so

(02:20):
expect a close game.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Partamutter plymouthin As you mentioned, they couldn't play last week.
It was incredibly flooded around the Nazi Tower area last weekends.
You know, I saw that as I drove through, and
they'll be back home there this weekend though, Adam hosting
the Upper Hut Rams.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
I should note that Buttony on that previous fixture. Adam
do have Nani Puinavi from the Hurricanes playing for them,
and they also have Braith Ingram returning who is close
to the best open side flanka in the competition, marchitoa
de Main. Well. He was certainly a frantic scene out
there as they rushed to dry that field which was

(03:00):
completely flooded. Reports of knee high water out there at
the land of nay Toer domain. So Paramount of Plymouthon,
who do prefer a fast crack, will be delighted to
have a nice day and they have a very good
back line. Lewis Northcote has scored tries in every game

(03:21):
so far this season. Si Cohen Versai, who didn't play
in the opening round, is back, so Paramount of Plymouthon
should get back on track at home.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
All right, Huddle Boys Marius, they're back home. Great start
to the season for them. Adam Ol Boys University also
showing signs of improvement from last year too. Could they
be the ones that trip up Huddle Boys Marius to
start their record this season?

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Well, it is a possibility, although it is a fast study.
In contrast that game, Old Boys University comparatively small, mind you,
even Cyclops are small compared to Huddle Boys Marius. They're
a huge team and Oldbles University have won all three
games and largely they've outpaced teams in the second half

(04:06):
with their terrific backline which includes the likes of Hunter
Kennedy and a very good first five eight. But watch
for the battle upfront between Gareth Ward Allen. He's the
loosehead prop for Old Boys University and he made that
epic run in the twenty twenty four Jubilee Cup Final
which ABU won against Tawa at Jerry Colin Stadium in Parrua.

(04:28):
And he's marking Willi Talfuger, who's a monstrous tight head
prop for HUD Old Boys Marrist who's been on the
brink of the Wellington Alliance two of the best young
props emerging into the capital tussing against each other tomorrow
and that'll go a long way towards deciding the outcome
of this game.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
All right, couple of mid table teams at Pottydoor Park
and north hosting the Axe Men.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Well Northsea significantly improved side this year adam A fortnight
ago they toppled Johnson Bull which was their first win
against the club other than Wellington and Avalon since twenty
twenty two. And last week they made a scream and
come back against hudd old Boys Marist and only lost
by a solitary point. And ironically Luke a Rees was

(05:15):
playing number eight for Huddld Boys Marist and he scored
two tries. He was a prolific player when he was
at Northern United. He won two Jubilee Cups and he's
got over one hundred Premiere tries. And Norse have Bradley
Crichton in the front row. He's a Wellington line returning
from injury. They have some stability in the back line

(05:35):
now with Luke Walmsley and Johnny tallyunga experienced players, but
Willington too vastly improved though they listed an opportunity last
Saturday to beat Johnsonvill had a lot of possession and
territory in that game but didn't capitalize it. Luke Cup
and he's one to watch for the axe Men. This
will be a tight tussle, but I'm predicting Norse to

(05:57):
achieve their second win of the season.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
All right, looking for their first wins of the season,
both Ari's and Avalon. Any team that might be a
better chance for this one at the Polo ground.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Well you'd think Ari's, although they've lost five in a
row now that Magpie is this is the most extraordinary
collapse Adam. Last year they won the Swindale Shield all
thirteen games successfully four try bonus points in each one,
and they haven't won a game since. They have been
close in a couple of their games this season, while Avalon,

(06:29):
whose fixture was postponed last Saturday against Paramount Plimouton, have
been heavy losers in the first two rounds. Ori should
win this game, and if they don't there might be
an inquisition that there are because it's a shocking collapse
for Ari's who have been so strong in this competition
for many years.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Indeed, all right, and wrapping up the rounds action. We're
back out just down the road from the polo ground
at Evans Bay Park, MSP hosting why No He.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
This will be a fascinating game Adam. MSP had their
first loss against Tawe last Saturday, but it was a
competitive showing by MSP. No Imata had a close one
against Paunicky. They had to come back to win that game.
Marta have struggled to attract young talent, but they've got
a terrific lose Ford and Brandon Lowe who's made a

(07:19):
big impact over there. And they also have two brothers,
a Manual Solomona and Elijah Solomona who are young tear away,
so expect them to challenge an mspretty side that looks
far more settled under the coaching of Berendon Ready. He's
one of the really good guys and well in club
Rugby Brendon and he's back coaching Marison Pats after playing

(07:41):
for Samoa, coaching the Saint Pat's Town Verse fifteen and
doing various other age group sides. MSP narrowly at home,
but why we are mart to challenge all right?

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Well, looking forward to it. Some interesting games across the
borders sort of. I guess the gap gets wider in
some aspects between top bottom on the table. Adam, appreciate
your time as always, enjoy your weekend and just before
you go, I know it was a special weekend for
you know, one of the top rugby colleges here in
the capitol, Wellington College, a big anniversary last weekend for
their rugby program and a good result on the field too.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Wow. Absolutely. And in the twentieth of July eighteen seventy
six at the Basin Reserve, the first game of interprovincial
first fifteen rugby was played in New Zealand between Wellington
College and Nelson College. And they got together to celebrate
that occasion, firstly on Thursday with a golf day. Celebrities

(08:38):
in all blacks among the attendees there, not yours truly,
But on Friday I did have the privilege of going
to the luncheon where Sir Graham, Henry Dane Coles, Sean
Plunkett and Mark Allis made for a very interesting panel.
And then to the most relevant event itself, the game.
Wellington College. They had lost their previous even matches against

(09:01):
Nelson stretching back to twenty fourteen two years ago it
was forty seven Milton Nelson, but Wellington flogged them forty
three to five. They scored an early try and it
was one of those days where everything clicked and the
enterm of the crowd was behind them and they produced
a sterling performance, one that Roger Moses, the great headmaster
there for twenty four years, called the best he's seen

(09:24):
the Wellington College First fifteen play in a decade. It's
only April, but high hopes for Wellington this season. A
couple of terrific players to watch in that game throughout
the season. Julius Tomata, the prop. He played like Caesar.
He scored two tries, including the first one where he
took the ball on the wing, tumbling like David Boone
off Shane WARN's hat trick ball. And then they had

(09:46):
a terrific midfield combination Wellington College who made a lot
of holes in the Nelson defense. Ben Fi Tyler, whose
brother Charisma was in the First fifteen last year. And
Liam Phelps, who's a Centurions Under eighteen representative who's co
cross from Hibbs to make a big impression in an
important year for Wellington College.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Brilliance YEP looks like a great time head by all,
including sort of being a part of that crazy We're
the last week to Adam, great to catch up, enjoy
your weekend. Obviously big weekend for Super Rugby as well
across the board, so go well. We'll latchain next week.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Cheers Adam.
