Speaker 1 (00:01):
What a treat to welcome in from Ashburton College our
new head prefects, our head students for twenty twenty six
as named at the year eleven and twelve combined prize
giving the event sent to last night Nate Woods and
Layla Wards.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Congrats, thank.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Nate.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Why did we start with yourself? We had this year's
departing lot in a few weeks back and they gave
us a heads up on the process running for this.
You were up against what twenty four others?
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Yep, there were twenty four in the first.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
That's a boog pol Man, Yeah, it really was. And
then that was worked down to ten and then what
the final stage was to give a speech to the
whole school at the Blues Assembly.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Yes, yep, we all had to prepare a ninety second
long speech.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
What was the theme of yours?
Speaker 3 (00:46):
I decided I would do mine a little bit differently.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Obviously it worked. Well, did you do interpretive dance or something?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
No?
Speaker 3 (00:54):
No, So I was speaking my speech about how I
don't want to just hide behind some words on a
age and then at the very end of my speech
I held up my paper and it was completely blank.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
So, oh, Dad's yeah, Well, you are a trained thesepien,
so I like that. What about you? What was the
theme of your speech?
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Lalor So mine was started off about like my journey
through school, and I linked that with like a sprint
from one block to another at the school, and then
I linked that with challenges we all face that school
and how I want to help people overcome those challenges
as he prefix and stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
So yours was like a CrossFit exercise, and it symbolic
that life is like a blank piece of paper, you
describe whatever you like, like the never ending story. Nice.
So why were you keen on the roll labor for me?
Speaker 4 (01:47):
I and like yes, seven and A. I was kind
of like off the leadership role area. I always wanted
to do it, but I was too scared. And then
in year nine a lot of teachers and friends kind
of said to me, look, you would be good at this,
and then from there I kind of plan to go
for it and go for other leadership roles and stuff
like that.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
And especially watching the head.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Prefix this year, like Yeah's Jake, Sophia and Nullah. They
did such a good job and it was great to
see how they embraced diversity within the school.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
And I was like, actually, I'll give it a try.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
We'll see we can win, some will lose some, we'll
find out if jbits.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Yeah, they've done a great job of I feel cultivating
a great culture this year. Everybody seems to have had
a great time, so that must be rather exciting. What
are you hoping to achieve in the role yourself, then, hate.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Well, obviously I want to make school an awesome place,
just like the previous head prefix they've done for me
and so many others, So that's definitely my top priority.
But I also just want to start building some connections and,
like my speech said, actually speak to everyone and not
just hip behind somewhere's on a page.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
You're the people's president.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
That's the one.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
My man. Heyre here's a week question. You've just been
given a million bucks to spend on the school. What's
the first thing you'd buy?
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Okay, yeah, that's definitely a bit of a curveball question.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
What's on your wish list?
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Well, I suppose some drinking fountains that you can fill
up your water bottle from would be.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Also nice, nice cold water that's not like.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Mountain Fresh. Get it shipped directly from the from the
glaciers of the Southern Alps. Perfect, that'd be nice. There's
a business opportunity in that. Yeah, well played. Hey, so yeah,
it was a big night last night. And then we're
standing by for exams, which what'll start next week?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Yep, yep, next to Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
So that that's for regular schooling. We're done?
Speaker 4 (03:43):
Yep?
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Wow, what if you got up first?
Speaker 3 (03:46):
I've got up maths first.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
On Tuesday? Ye opening days?
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Not doing?
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Your reaction suggests that you don't have that. What's your
first one?
Speaker 2 (03:58):
I have English on Thursday?
Speaker 1 (04:00):
It meat, you know, I want to chick that. Just
turn up, hey and super quick, either of you guys
in Red House?
Speaker 3 (04:08):
No?
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Yeah, I am congratulations again I hear did you want
it by one point?
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Something really close like that? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Yeah. Somebody told me on the weekend that the house
competition was won by Read by one point? An are
you defending champs too?
Speaker 2 (04:25):
No? Orange House won last year?
Speaker 1 (04:27):
How good? How good? Where did Green come lost? It's
my old house? Are you Green? Laylor?
Speaker 4 (04:34):
No?
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I'm an Orange House.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Nice to know that something reminiscent of myself in Greenhouse.
