Murray Olds: Australian correspondent on One Nation overtaking Labor in new poll

New polling data shows One Nation is gaining more of a political foothold in Australia.

The latest The Australian Financial Review/Redbridge Group/Accent Research poll says that support for One Nation has jumped four percentage points to 31, while Labor's vote is on 28 percent.

Australian correspondent Murray Olds says leader Pauline Hanson is proving popular among prospective voters, with many dissatisfied with the Labor party.

the Australian body politic. And you know, for thirty years
she's been freaking from the sidelines, you know. But like Shakespeare,
what to do about nothing? All of a sudden she
has got significant legitimacy, at least as far as the
punt As are concerned. And now are the ones who

are going to the ballot box compulsory voting over here,
and the latest poll the Redbridge Pole has got Pauline
Hanson now in front of Labor no surprise, she's massively
in front of what passes for the official opposition over here.
But one nation now is in front of the Labor
Party in terms of popular support, only one pole, I

hastened to add. But Paul the enhancer has got momentum.
Perhaps that's all she has because you know, she has
no policies on education, or on defense, or on welfare
or on health. But she's been howling about immigration, and
she's been howling about net zero. Well as far as

immigration is concerned, ever since she hopped onto the public stage,
she's been howling about that for thirty years, and now
she's here with this extraordinary pole result.

Well, you know, everyone's been howling about the Coalition, everyone's
been howling about the labor so in a way, the
electric just as they are in the UK with Faraj
and Reform, they've decided, if we can't trust them and
we can't trust the others, well let's go for the
number three guys.

Well exactly, and over here, I mean Tony Abbott. Last
week the extra and then, as certain the most effective
opposition leader of this company's ever seen, Tony Abbott was
elected unopposed as the President of the Liberal Party. Now
what's that signify. It signifies the Liberals are prepared to,
you know, fight at the standard fight the conservative side.

The moderates want nothing to do with Tony Abbott. He's
a bit of a dinosaur from years gone by. But
what else are they to do? I mean, how the
hell do you fight Pauline Hanson. She's the everywhere you
go you turn on talkback radio. I like Pauline. She's
always stood up for the little person. He's always stood
up for Australia. One of these bloody liberals doing what

are the nationals doing? Labor? By the way, So all
of a sudden, Hanson has got this kind of popular legitimacy.
I played golf on the weekend and the couple I
played golf with have a guess where they come from.
They come from South Africa. They love Pauline Hanson. I said,
she hates migrants. You're a migrant. Both of you are

migrants and white. I'm a migrant as well. Oh yeah,
but you know as she likes some migrants, white migrants.
Well okay, yeah, maybe the white migrants. But she has
got this this kind of She's tapped to this reservoir
of anger, of despair. The Conservative vote over here. They
look at Angus Taylor and think you are joking. You've

rolled Susan Lee twenty five years the member for Parah
twenty five years. That's a pretty darn good career and
they kicked her out. Oh you know you're no good that.
You know, Angus could have a crack. Well, angus just
blew up. And now Pauline Hanson's got legitimacy with a
single person in the lower House's talk this morning, and

she's got to stand at the next election for the
lower House instead of being in the Senate. I even
saw her yesterday not discounting her becoming Prime Minister. I'm
not going to underestimate myself. Well, have you guess what's
happened in the last thirty years people have been underestimating.
