Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from News talks'b Follow this
and our wide range of podcast now on iHeartRadio. Time
to go to Australia. Murriyold's good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Very good morning, has things.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
I'm pretty good. I hope you're well too, excellent, good,
always good to talk to you. Now, there's an Aussie
angle on the New Orleans dramas and tragedy.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Well, that's terrible in New Orleans, obviously, and it has
prompted a warning from the former boss of the Home
Affairs Department, a guy called Mike Pazzulo. Extremely well connected.
He's been involved with the Australian Domestic Intelligence Service for many,
many years, and basically he is saying Australia is not
(00:49):
immune to something, just like New Orleans. He says, Islamic
state is still a thing. It's still looking to exploit.
Anger around the world about the plight of Palestinian zin Gaza,
A lot of anger in this country, as we've all
seen in recent times about anti Israel but also anti
much pro Palestinian. In fact, Puzzullo warned back in August
(01:13):
that Australia, an individual or small group over here could
be planning an act, you know, some dreadful act that
could happen tomorrow, big or small. I mean this might
be a lone wolf. They talk about a lone wolf
or a small group. And of course the Australian opposition
over here under Peter Dutton, it's immediately seized on this
(01:35):
to say, well, hang on a second. The government here
under Anthony hell but Easy, has exposed Australia to a
threat perhaps by allowing in refugees from Gaza without you know,
proper background checks. They are allowed in women and children
as you know, as a humanitarian gesture for goodness sake.
So look, there's a lot of moving parts in this.
(01:56):
What happened in New Orleans is just a disaster, of course,
but warning from a very senior guy that Australia is
you know, is not immuned to something similar.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Well, great political fight for a man's been shot dead
by New South Wales police too.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Not sure what the background to all of this is,
but it will unfolded. In the little town just west
of tarin Up in northern New South Wales. He was
seen to be acting a better raphically. Police were called
to this country hospital. They think maybe there's a mental
health angle here, But in any event, police have turned up.
(02:36):
They've negotiated with this fellow. The guys fired shots in
the air. Half an hour later, officers are still trying
to engage with a fellow when he's pointed the weapon
at them and they've shot in dead. So this mental
health angle very much an active angle as far as
police are concerned.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
And you've had so much rain in Queensland. There's a
couple of major dams that are going to start releasing
some water.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
That's the way things happen up in Queensland. And of
course when there's water they try to release it in
the controlled fashion, but when there's this much, I just
can't think of the names of the dams. I've actually
driven up that part of the world. But at some
time ago, and we've seen this in the past, so
much water, the build up, and it's got nowhere to
(03:21):
go other than over the top of the dam or
they release it in the controlled fashion. What happens to
the town's downstream They're also been saturated and the water
comes pouring down and bang you get all sorts of
damage and problems. So how far this is going to go,
We're not sure at this pointment boy our boy, the
arrangement pelting down up there. Hopefully it's nice in Sydney
For the Test match today, the fifth Test between Australia
(03:44):
and India, Mitchell Marsh has been dropped for a Tasmanian
guy Bo. Webster know nothing about Bo other than the
fact that he's thirty one years old. He's built like
a big sture house and he can smash the ball
to all parts of the ground and involves medium pace
and spin. So if you're looking for an all rounder,
this chap has been dominating Sheffield Shield cricket in the
(04:07):
last couple of years. He gets a chance. The Indian
dressing room and disarray after what we saw in the
Fourth Cricket Test. So Australia can either draw this or
win it, and that means that Australia will win back
the border gave scouts.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Will Australia, sorry, Will Australia be playing for the win?
He's playing for balls? Draws? Pretty boring, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Oh, make there's no way, no they'll be playing for
a draw. They'll be playing to win the game, of course.
And you know at this point you'd have to think
that Australia is a decent chance because the Australian team
the Indian team are bigger parton the parent there's all
sorts of divisions inside. Getting smoked by New Zealand only
a minute ago wouldn't have helped. And you've got these
(04:50):
old swaggering types like we're at Cooley, who in his
day was just a fantastic cricketer, but maybe he's at
the end of his at the end of his time
in the team, his division inside the team. We understand
commentators like Sonny Gabasca and from the account Verat Coley,
(05:10):
Vera Coli, thank you. I mean guys like that are
looking in and Gavisca are saying I don't like what
I'm seeing here. He's a revered figure in in Indian cricket,
ares is Coli. But there's no way known in Australia
won't be playing for a win. They've got a really
good bowling attack, patting bolster, they hope by this fellow
bowt webster. So let's see what Let's see what happens.
(05:32):
It's it's a magic Test match to breast.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Are they expecting big crowds for that? I mean it
was amazing and Melbourne, wasn't it. I think we've just
lost you there, Mary. Your receptions has gone a bit
if he so, we might have to we might have
to leave it there. That's Murray Olds in Australia. For
