Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from News Talks'd be follow
this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Richard Arnold from the United States. Goodboarding, Richard, Good morning, Andrew.
So what's the lattest out of America about Iran?

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Yeah, well, Trump is leaving unclear the photo of US
military action against Iran as the anti regime protests continue there.
It's a bloody crackdown, collapsing economy. The US president says,
Iran has told him the killing has stopped, but Trump
has pulled off misleading employees in the past in relationship
this think back to the attack on the nucleosides in June.
Trump now is saying.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
They told me that there'll be no executions, and so
I hope that's true because it's just mean.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Military action is now off the table against Iran.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
We're going to watch and see what the process is.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Well.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Iran says it will not hang twenty six year old
Iranian protester f And Sultani, who was set to be
executed today. He will now face prison instead, is what
they are saying. There is new video today, however, body
bags with more than two hundred bodies piled up outside
of makeshift morgue on the fringes of Tehran. While a

(01:16):
US human rights group says they have details of at
least twenty five hundred people killed, other estimates put the
numbers of twelve thousand or even higher. So what do
we make of all of those revolving figures. Amnesty International
says there have been unlawful killings on a quote unprecedented scale.
Iran is largely cut off from the rest of the world,
with the Internet shut down, no foreign reporters there, phone

(01:36):
you severely restricted. Some telephone calls are getting through. However,
I spoke to an Iranian expati yesterday who had heard
from a family member who said it's simply too dangerous
to go out onto the streets because that simple action
can lead you to being shot. How do you get food?
Supplies are running short, all kinds of issue. So the
killing is stop quote unquote does not seem to describe

(01:58):
the actuality of this ongoing crisis on a broader scale.
Trump reportedly has been told that a single air attack
might not mark the end of the regime, and the
White also has been lobbied by some Middle Eastern leaders
who are concerned that retaliatory Iranian strikes on US bass
in the region could affect them directly. A Benam Talibu
of the Foundation for the Defensive Democracy says, if the

(02:20):
US remains on the snidelines as it has at times
in the past, after telling Iranian protesters that quote help
is on the way, that would be very significant.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Protesters will be disappointed and that'll be the understatement of
the century.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Meantime, in Los Angeles, a forty eight year old man
has been arrested for reckless driving after he took a
rental truck and drove it right into a crowd of
anti Iranian government protesters here this week. This fellow claims
he had no intention of hurting anyone. Many in the
Iranian exile community simply do not believe that.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Now we've had another shooting of an anti ICE protester
once again, it's in Minnesota, and this is just ramping
up the tension.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
It really is. Trump has been voicing support for anti
government protesters in Iran, not taking the same stancevery Minneapolis,
where there has been yet another shooting by ICE agents.
This time, Homeland Security says a man was shot in
a leg after he fled during a traffic stopped and
then allegedly began attacking offices along with a couple of
other people. Trump now is threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act. Now,

(03:20):
this thing was passed in eighteen oh seven, so it
goes back aways, doesn't it, and allowing a president to
deploy military troops here or to federalize the National Guard
domestically in specific situations like any move to put down
an insurrection. Protests erupted again in Minneapolis after this later
shooting where the man was shot in this way. Here
is some of that demonstration, so it's still very intense.

(03:52):
The city's mayor, Jacob Frye, who has been revocal in
all of this, says, now.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
This is an impossible situation that our city is presently
being put.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
In, but no sign of things easing, and all in
the wake, of course of the killing of RENETI good
bye that ice agent.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
And we've got as sick astronaut off the International Space Station.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
That's right, first time this has happened. First time that
the space station crew four astronauts in this case have
been returned to Earth early about six weeks early because
of health worries. The returning space capsule lit up the
night skies as it crossed over California and landed in
the waters off San Diego to be greeted, it seems,
by dolphins. So that's nice, isn't it. The head of
NASA says, now all crew members are currently undergoing the

(04:33):
routine post splashdown medical evaluation.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
The crew member of concern is doing fine.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
We're still not being told the name of that ailing
astronaut or the nature of the medical issue. The crew
will remain in that San Diego hospital for a bit,
then they will be transferred to Houston for further medical assessments.
There are three astronauts remaining on the International Space Station.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Richard has been a pleasure to talk to you over
the Southern Breakfast.
