Speaker 2 (00:24):
Hi de Peter, Yeah, Hi, Ramen ringing from the capital, Wellington,
and I'd like to mention about two newspapers that I've
been mentioned in The Evening Post. Was the first one
that's not around now it's been combined with The Dominion.
Nineteen ninety six, I was mentioned for sports Personality of
(00:47):
the Year in Wellington and they had a photo there
and it had Martin Crowe, Brian of Worr and Dame
Dame Nolen from the netball So I was quite proud
of that one. I've still I've put that in as
(01:07):
scrap book there. And the other one, well, hang.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
On before before you go on, Peter, what was your
Why were you in their sports personality? What was that
all about?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Sports Personality of the year. I provided work on Network
two ZB on the different sports of time. I did
it for about ten years and I covered up to
about forty forty sports and I'm interested in the athletics
(01:41):
and I included the athletics and I was also Leo
the Lion at the time, and I worked and worked
as an official in the athletics track and field, and
I was at the Commonwealth Games and earlier in nineteen
ninety so they someone decided to nominate me for that,
(02:04):
so I was very proud of that. I've still got
the still got the trophy year at home.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
That's a great accolade. Were you involved with athletics at
the time of Jess and Amelia Kerr?
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yes, I was, and they were much later. They were
from the Olympic Club, and yeah, they showed, they showed high,
high promises as athletes, but unfortunately they took cricket as
there as their sport. For good on them.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
It was a lovely time. My youngest daughter used to
run against Jess and Amelia was too small to be
running back then she'd stand in the grandstand with her parents.
But they've got a very strong connection with athletics and
cricket and very talented.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yes, yes, oh no, no, definitely. And the other time
Romand was in two thousand and twenty and seventeen I
got Royal honors for all the work I'd been doing
and athletics and the rugby and community out collecting money
(03:14):
out in the streets and that and I got a
qs M for that one, so I'm quite proud of
that one. And they mentioned you were mentioning about local papers. Well,
at those times I got mentioned in the Eastern Suburbs Sentinel,
the Cooks Straight times they were they were quite good. Oh,
(03:38):
I think they were really good local local rags we
call them and we could send in articles and sending
results and local personalities. It's it's very very sad that
they've gone Roman And do you think.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
It's a mental effect on the sense of community with
all those little local papers disappearing?
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Not all of them, Ah, yes, I think that they
were part of the communities out our way, particularly in
the Eastern Suburbs out in Miramar and Love Bay, and
they were part of it.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
And yeah, they really were, Peter, and I think you've
covered it very nicely. I think it's great that people
listening will know who you are with your connection to
Wellington and athletics and two z B when it was
known as too z B in Wellington. Good stuff.
