Pets play an important role in people's lives, and the death of a loved animal can hit people and their families hard.

Afternoons host Matt Heath looked back on his family's pet loss from a few years ago - and paid tribute to Apple the goldfish.

Yeah, so, as I said before, there, you know, when
my kids were really really little, they they lost a fish.
And this just shows how important pets can be because
the fish doesn't give you nearly as much as a
dog does or a cat does at all. But but
you know when kids first experience death, they can get
quite confused by it. So this is this is this

(00:41):
is audio of the funeral for a fish called Apple, Okay,
big gold fish called Apple. And this was a very
very long time ago when my kids were really little.
And this is when I was hosting the Matt and
Jerry show on on Radio Hodaki. So this is the
audio from that. So it's got a bit of a
lead in. We've just we've just managed to find it.
It was very hard to find. So it's got a

bit of a lead in from from from the show.
But see if you think, see how this affects you.
This this this fish funeral. Okay, so let's play that
fish funeral. Are we going to play it now? Or
we play it after kingsle No I think we should
play it now, Okay, So I just set it up
a little bit maybe, Okay. Well, Apple was my kids

were little. It was their first pet that they had
that passed away. It was a big, old, dirty old fish.
And I was surprised how poorly they took it. I
didn't think. I don't think they're aware of the concept
of death at this point. So here is the funeral
for Apple.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
Apple, you were a good fish.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
You were a big, big, big fish, our favorite goldfish
with it.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
They had.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
You jumped out of the tank one you lay on
the ground, we put you put your back in the
tank and floated around on your side for a while,
and then you came back to life. And then you
swim around for another five years of happiness. And then
one day there you went. You die. But you had

(02:29):
a great life.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Apple, So rest in peace.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Oh they get you right in the fields on with
Jerry cheapest mate.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
When you put on the spot to present a eulogy
to a fish, there's only so many events that the
fish had in its life. You know, you feed it
a lot, you cleaned the tank out. But Apple was
a good fish. Apple did jump out of the tank
at one point and We got up in the morning
and the kids were going apples on the ground. We
put apple back in the tank. But boy, that's hit

(03:03):
me listening to that. Those my little sons they took that,
you know, and that's a goldfish, so you know, I mean,
they're much bigger now. But you know, when Colin, our
dog passes, oh my goodness.

Just a little while. I love you so much, and
I've got to say, beautiful officiating from you, Matt Heath.
That was That was a proud dead moment right there. Oh,
someone's cutting onions in here.
