Good afternoon. I'm railing Ramsey. This is your afternoon news
fix for Thursday, the thirteenth of August. Armed police have
rushed to Auckland Sylvia Park as witnesses report hearing the
sound of gunshots. A witness says he heard five or
six shots, which he initially thought was a car backfiring.
More than a dozen police vehicles were seen streaming down

the motorway towards the shopping center just after three. Another witness, Nick,
says he was driving through the complex and saw a
car crashed by the entrance.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Right in the middle of the island where you're pulling
into the mall, and it looked like it had been
hitched by something or hit the island.

Another witness ed says he saw the crash and heard
the rear of the car hit the paving.

I saw a little Suzuki Swift actually jumped the paving
right next to us for a number of police cars
also just pulling in the dark. Units were dispatched and
I saw police officers of raffle.

Witness Martin was speaking to Newstalks edb'st Tyler Adams when
a police officer told him to leave his car. Are you,
saying that we're not allowed to sit in our car
at the moments. Police say the incident's no longer ongoing,
but is yet to provide any further information. Cabinet Minister

Ericus Stanford is denying she has leadership ambitions. Speculations continued
the senior National MP was planning to challenge Chris Luxen
at yesterday's urgent caucus meeting. Earlier today, she confirmed she
has confidence in Luxen, but didn't address whether she mounted
or planned to mount a challenge. After further questions, Stanford

said she has consistently supported Luxen and has no interest
in becoming a leader. The Police Minister is continuing to
criticize Senior coop Rakesh Naido for not disclosing his labour
candidacy earlier, despite a new time frame coming to light.
Naido was announced as a candidate in June, but police

launched an investigation after Commissioner Richard Chambers said he was
only told forty eight hours earlier, but document show Nidoo
told his manager about his intentions as much as two
weeks earlier, which wasn't passed on to Chambers. Naido's managers
apologize for the confusion, but Mitchell says two weeks still

isn't good enough. Getting into politics is a great thing.
There's been lots of ex police officers that have gone
into politics and I think that's great. But have a
bit of integory about the way that you do that.
Nine former Gloria Vale members are seeking damages and declarations
of slavery in servitude following a court ruling against the
Labor Inspectorate. The Employment Courts found inspectors made legal errors

in two employment investigations at the West Coast Christian community
in twenty seventeen and twenty one. Rosie Leishman reports.

The nine levers claimed they were failed after inspectors didn't
properly investigate extremely serious allegations of forced labour, child labor,
slavery and servitude. Chief Judge Christina Ingalls found the Labor
Inspectorate and misunderstood its jurisdiction and failed to consider children.

Multiple Fanger part Our Peninsular businesses north of Auckland have
been forced to close after being inundated with sewage from
a rain damaged pump station. Water Care's John Piggott says
heaving rain last night caused flooding at the Hobbs Bay
Station damaging pump motors. Temporary pumps are operating in Sport, Canterbury.
