Good afternoon. I'm Malcolm Jordan and this is your midday
news FACS for Wednesday, the fourteenth of January. Horofenawas mayor
is shocked by a deadly shooting at a beach settlement
near Livin overnight. A man's dead and a woman and
two teens were critically injured in the shooting early today
at Watereri Beach. Bernie Wanden says it's a tragic family incident.

He says people's expectations for Waiteri at this time of
year are simply to enjoy summer.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
And a wonderful beach and being able to use all
the amenities that the beach provides, and so this would
have been really unsettling and I'm sure causing some anxiety
within the community.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
A young driver has died and two passengers are seriously
injured after a car caught fire when it crashed into
a truck north of Rotorua yesterday. Jamie Cunningham reports.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Police twice bite the silver Lexus before it crashed on
State Highway thirty six and Hamurana, when members of the
public helped extinguish the fire. Was earlier spotted driving dangerously
and more than eighty kilometers an hour over the limit
on State Highway one south of Cambridge. The car was
later linked to an aggravated robbery in Torunger on Monday.

A critical incident investigation is underway and the IPCA has
been notified. Donald Trump says help is on its way
to Iran and deserging anti government demonstrators to keep protesting.
The Trump administration's national security team has met today to
discuss its options, but the US President himself was not present.

There's very little information coming out of the strict Islamic nation,
but one Iranian security official has told Reuters the death
toll could now be two thousand. Meanwhile, Greenland's prime minister
says the country would choose Denmark over the United States,
as its president renews his rhetoric on taking control of
the Arctic island. Several US senators are preparing to travel

to Denmark this week after Donald Trump claimed that the
US needs to own Greenland so Russia and China can't.
Prime Minister Yen's fredericnell Nielsen says Greenland doesn't want to
be owned or governed by or part of the United States.

part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Now we are faced
with a geopolitical crisis and if we have to choose
between the USC and Denmark, here and now we choose Denmark.
