Good afternoon. I'm Malcolm Jordan and this is your midday
news fixed for Friday, the fifteenth of May. Investigators are
door knocking a christ Church Culdersack following a house fire
that's claimed the life of a child and injured six
other people. Emergency services were called to a rental property
on Whitehall Street near Hills Road at around eight point
thirty last night. At least say the cause of the

fire is not confirmed but not believed to be suspicious.
News Talk zedb's Hanaffect is at the scene where detectives
and investigators in boiler suits are scouring the property.

Some of them have got cameras with them and they've
been inside. You can see the flash of the camera
through the front of the window, but it is quite
covered with smoke.

Meanwhile, the Professional Firefighters Union has canceled today's scheduled strike
action in response to the fatal blaze. The boss of
Air New Zealand says the company has a plan if
jet fuel prices remain high. The airlines further down raided
its profit forecast and his warning of staff redundancies and
further flight reductions. Chief Executive Nikol Ravishanka says the airline

has already reduced to flight capacity by five percent through
to the end of the July school holidays. He says
they could be looking at more cuts after that if
the prices remain at the same levels. We'll be looking
at cut somewhere between five to ten percent, so it
won't be significant amount of cuts from August to Uktaba.
Taiwan remains at China's bottom line. Despite efforts to build

a more constructive relationship with the US. Donald Trump says
the Chinese president vowed to not provide military equipment to
Iran and offered to assist the US in resolving the conflict. Earlier,
Shijingping suggested Taiwan is the most important issue in the
US China relationship and could create a dangerous situation if mishandled.

New Zealand China Council Executive director Alistair Crozier says he
couldn't have made it clearer. Should the situation escalate, that
would be the least reading source of potential conflict between
China and the US. The rollout of the government's new
curriculum is being delayed for some subjects after teachers raised
concerns about the time frame. The new Health and Physical Education.

The Arts, Technology and Language's curriculum for primary students will
now be mandatory in twenty twenty nine rather than the
year before. Social sciences and science still need to be
taught next year. Education Minister Erica Stanford says science and
social sciences are just as important as maths and literacy.

so important we young people in their critical thinking. The
Warehouse Group has delivered a stable third quarter result, with
like the Like store sales remaining largely flat. Chief executive
