Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good morning, I never Readymanu, and this is your morning
news fix for Monday, ninth of September. In this update,
more than four hundred Christian organizations are singing from the
same hymn sheet in opposition to the government's Treaty Principal's Bill.
The Prime Minister has agreed to support the bill to
the Select Committee stage, but no further. The group has

(00:24):
written an open letter to the government asking them to
pull it before it gets there. Tartanaki Cathedral's very Reverend
Jay Rooker says truthful discussion of the treaty is helpful,
but the government isn't telling the truth. If we truly
want to honor the treaty, then that's been undemocratic and
that's just simply not true.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
There's nothing more democratic than honoring your agreements.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
QB Rail will be sentenced today over last year's dramatic
drifting incident involving the Kentucki Ferry and the Cook Strait.
The inter Island of vessel lost power after its engines
failed in January twenty twenty three and it began drifting
towards rocks with more than eight hundred people on board.

mills between Oakune and Wyourdu, blaming soaring electricity prices curbing profitability.

(01:27):
Nearly three hundred workers were expected to learn their fate today,
but Mere Western Curtain understands the meeting has now been
delayed until tomorrow afternoon. Raymans and Clear's partner works at
one of the mills and says closure would be disastrous right.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Everyone from here loves for work like they love to
go to work. Going to hurt the country a lot
more when everyone's sitting on the goal. As sad as
that is, but that's what's going to have happened, because
there's no jobs and how are we meant to feed
our babies.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
A homicide investigation continues in the far north of the
country after a man died over the weekend. The man
was dropped off at kind Higher Hospital with serious injuries
late on Saturday night and died shortly afterwards, and a
criminal defense lawyer says it's very rare to see the
public court and the crossfire of a homicide. Since the
start of August, police have launched eleven homicide investigations around

(02:15):
the country. One has since been deemed not a homicide
and has been referred to the coroner. Lawyer John Munroe
told Ryan Bridge police may be stretched.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
The promising thing is that we have a very very
good police force. They're very well equipped. The good police are,
they're competent and.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
A nineteen year old man charged with murder in relation
to the death of an Auckland teenager is due in
the Auckland District Court today. He's also facing three counts
of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Sky
City's voluntary closure of its Auckland casino is expected to
cost the company some serious money. It's been closed since
midnight and will remain so until Friday midnight because of

(02:53):
a breach of host responsibility. Herald Property editor Ann Gibson
says Sky City was losing a million dollars plus a
day when it had to close for the pandemic and
in spot the NRRAL League's top eight has been found.
In the first week of finals, the Panthers host the
Roosters Minor Premiers, the Storm played the Sharks, the Cowboys
meet the Knights, and the Bulldogs face the Sea Eagles.

(03:15):
Canoeist Peter Cowen has claimed a bronze in the two
hundred meter VL three event to complete New Zealand's Paris
Paralympic campaign. The team's final medal count was one gold,
four silver and four bronze, leaving them thirty fifty first
rather on the table and Primosh Ronglich has won his
fifth Grand Cycling Tour and fourth Volta Espana Espana. I'm

(03:40):
never ready, Manu, that your latest news figs. We'll be
