Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Radio Hodarkeys Off the Record podcast with Greg Preble.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Let's have a chat with Curly's duels. Cure to Gel,
Cure to My Love. How has the Capital City been
this week?

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Not too shabby, can't complain.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
We should talk about your band. How's things been going
as we approach the final night Halloween in fact of
October twenty twenty four. What's been going on for you
follows this last ten months? Fair bit?

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Actually, we've been in the studio doing a bit of recording,
trotting about the place, doing a bit of playing live music,
which is always a good time.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Where did you play well?

Speaker 3 (00:38):
To be Fear was my favorite? Sort of one of
late has been playing at one of our favorite places, Lovelands,
which is finishing up at the end of the year.
It's one of our favorite little spots.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
I haven't heard of Lovelands that.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
One's out and put it on and it's been around
for about fourteen years. It's yeah underground vibes, but finishing
up this year. Unfortunately. We've done few of our music
videos there in fact, and and the music video for
our new track was done here as well. Actually, been
around the place a little bit we've been up in
Napier doing some shows there and we're actually going back

(01:10):
there towards the end of this year, actually this month,
coming November. Gosh, it's getting close to the end of
the year all of a sudden. But yeah, so we're
going back to Napier again. So we've been up to
Paisley Lounge. It was another highlight. We hadn't played there
before and that was a great time.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
So yeah, pretty good being the singer when you're playing
at an upstairs place so you don't have to lug
drums around or guitars or am since the only can
give a hand, I guess, but the Paisley stage and
great place, but you know upstairs, Yeah, that is true.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
I love rocking up to places with my micro front
of my pocket.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
That's always a good time.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Tell me about the new song, Deluded.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
The music for it came around nicely. The guys put
it together. Aaron usually comes up with a bit of
a guitar part and we put it together ourselves, Aaron
and I usually, and then take it to the lads
and they put their flavor on it. But I was
sort of struggling with putting this one together. I have
to say it wasn't an easy song for me to
put down lyrics to it, which sometimes they are sometimes

(02:06):
they're not, And this one did take a little while
for me to put it together. But once it did
get its flow, I really love it now.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Someone was telling me the other day that all I
need to do is come up with the title. Once
I got that, the rest of the song just flows.
When did you come up with deluded? Was that after
you come up with a song and midway or what
you about that word?

Speaker 3 (02:26):
See, I'm a little bit backwards on that thing. Like
I normally come up with a title at the end
of it, I have to come up with a chorus
and then I have got it down. Like to be honest,
it normally comes with a verse first, but then the
chorus is what pulls it all together, if you know
what I mean. And that's where I get my title from.
And some reason it always ended up being a one
word title with me. I don't know what that is,

(02:47):
but it just happens like that.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
So what's going on in terms of the vibe of
this track?

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Bigness Big Guitars I suppose to describe us. It's just
I'm always like we're a wave of sound that's all in.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
The storytelling, sounds like we better hear it.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
This is Gel from Curly's Jewels and this is our
new track diluted and you are listening on Radio Hodaki Jill.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
It's a radio heard achy that is brand new from
Curly's Jewels. It's called to looted there and we're lucky
enough to have this singer on a zoom with us. Now,
Cure to Gel. Thanks for bringing us that tune.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Not a problem, Thank you for playing it.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Gel. You've recorded that song this year, twenty twenty four.
You've recorded others. You're holding on to them for a
little bit longer.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Just a little bit. We will be releasing another one
next year, probably early next year sometimes, so if you
want to have a listen out for that one, it'll
be all over our socials as soon as we're ready
to release it.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Cool and are you going to celebrate the release of
that song is only a week old now by going
out the roads somewhere around New Zealand.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Yes, we will be hitting our way very soon. Actually,
we'll be playing. Our next gig is actually November twenty
second up at Paisleyland and Napier. We had such a
good time there earlier on this year, so we are
heading back up that way, so November twenty second and
you can get tickets for that one under the radar.
So that's our next one our home base Lovelands that
I was talking about a little bit that we did

(04:36):
our diluted video ad that is closing shop unfortunately, So
that will be our very last gig there on the
seventh of December, So that'll be around on our socials
as well if anyone's interested in that one too. So
that will be our last gig for the year.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
And when's their final night? Is it like New Year's Eve?
Are they going out with a bang?

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Then no, that'll be the seventh of December, So that's.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
The final light for you playing there. But also that's
the final night of the venue.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Yeah, sadly, sadly, but you know, all things have to
you know, good things have to come to an end.
So unfortunately, very sad, but you know it'll be it'll
be a good night. So yeah, get along to that one. Wellington.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, so that's the end of an area that's in
Pottyda did you say it is? Yeah? And Wellington CBD
there's a new venue that's in the process of opening
up called mir Nui.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
We've had a wee bit of a nosey on the
way past. It's not yet open to have a prior
prying eyes into it, but very very much looking forward
to seeing how that one goes. It's I mean, we
can't be more happy to have venues opening up because
you know, we've had a few closing around the place,
so it would be very very nice to see. The
more places we can have live music happening, they better,
So you know, let's get them open and let's get

(05:44):
them support toed eh.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Yeah, exactly, And I believe that one has like a
thousand capacity, So emphasis on the Nui there. Hey, that's
for sure. And what else is going on for you guys,
I mean, obviously you've got your music going on. You're
very community minded as well. I think I saw you
on the telly last years at Mums. It was just
before Christmas and you were doing something where you were
handing out stuff for people.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
You know a lot about a lot of things, ah, Greg.
I like to get amongst community stuff and so to
a lot of people I know, thankfully. So over the
last few years I've been just sort of doing little
projects as I go along throughout the year to put
smiles on people's dials, just different random bits and pieces
here and there to help some people out at Christmas
who might need a bit of extra support. And it's

(06:27):
grown quite a bit. And then last year, I'm a
dear friend of mine Tony's put my name up for
the Good As Gold Recipient of the Year or whatever
it was. I can't even think of the whole name
of it, but it was a pretty awesome, amazing thing
to be put up for and I won. So they
turned up randomly with cameras in my lounge when I
was wearing not my Sunday best and with a lounge

(06:48):
full of stuff for ninety odd kids who were supporting
for Christmas presents and a low decul school and all
these people turned up with cameras and my friends and yeah,
and a prize. So that was really amazing, so very
much a grateful human at that time of the year.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
So yeah, you're a great New Zealander, Joel. And if
you want to find more information about the new song
Diluted that you guys have put out there, how do
we do that?

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Check out Cooly's Jewels. It's not got any grammar on it,
so just Cool's Jewels.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
