Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Radio hodar kis Off the Record podcast with Greg.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Let's have it chat with Coast Arcade. Here to Tom morning.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
Greg.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
You are the man on the skins, the drummer for
Coast Arcade. How long have you been with the band
So Coast?
Speaker 3 (00:17):
They've never been a band for about four and a
half years. We started off in high school, been in
and out and then yeah, we're now doing what we're
doing and we're really excited for it.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
You get a little bit of an excent.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
I am originally from the northeast of England. I moved
to New Zealand eight and a half years ago now,
and yes I met my family immigrated together and then
we've been here ever since.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
We just loved it.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
When you were in the UK, we went to Buffy Claro.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
I was a huge Buffy Clara. If I'm growing up,
my parents played it to me like since I was born.
Basically albums like Puzzles was a massive part of my
like just childhood, grown up and ever since that day
kind of mum and dad had just it's been a
household band kind of as you grew up with, you know.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Did you ever get to meet the guys over there.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Didn't get to meet them in the UK, but when
we moved to New Zealand that first year they were
playing over here and not in a stalkrish way, but
me and my mom we had been heard rooms of
them doing a radio interview. Magically enough, they were there
in person. We got to meet Ben and James outside.
I think, funny enough, it may have been radio heard ach.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, I remember when they came in. So you were
that little fellow that was waiting outside.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Yeah, not in a crazy way, standing outside stalking, but yeah, no,
we'd I think funny enough. I think my mum had
actually emailed the station as well, contacting and being like
are they going to be there in person? What's the
chances of being able to potentially meet them? And worlds collided,
I guess.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
And so tonight you are opening up for them, You're
gonna be hanging out with them backstage, you're gonna be
on stage playing before them. What does it mean to you?
Speaker 4 (01:48):
It's a pretty three sixty moment.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
I know myself and the band when it came through,
we were buzzing, like all of us were just like,
this is such a sick opportunity and to now tonight
be then it's pretty surreal. It feels a bit like
a three sixty moment and everything's come together, and yeah,
just I can't wait to get behind the stage and
get playing.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Really, when you get to the sound Chick or whatever
and you see the Fellas for the first time.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Honestly, I've tried to put it through my head and
I think it will just be one of those things
where you introduced to say hello, and then hopefully it
just comes up in conversation. I don't want to seem
even more stalkers than it was a couple of years ago,
but yeah, no, just hopefully it comes together. It'd be
amazing to meet them and have that conversation and for that, yeah,
(02:35):
for them to see like my influence as a drummer,
to be played with co Starcade and then now to
be opening for them.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
It's such a cool opportunity.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
In a non storkery way, when you meet them, you
may have made some sort of non stalkery impact on them.
You may think they might recognize you when they see you.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
Oh, fingers crossed it. It would be really really surreal.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
If they're dead and I'm looking a bit taller and
older than I was back back in those days. But
my old man funny Enough was making some jokes this
week go and there's a four of us together and
he's like, I'll get it on a T shirt. I'll
wear that, I'll be at the front, and it did
make me giggle.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
A little bit.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Well, look all the very best for your slot opening
for Buffy Claro tonight.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Thank you very much, Greg, appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Oh worries and just quickly, what's your sit looking like?
Speaker 3 (03:21):
The Coast we released an album late last year in October,
and there's quite a few tracks from that album that
was kind of a definition of a heavier rock kind
of sound compared to our younger kind of original stuff.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
So pretty heavy, pretty rocky.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
There's a cheeky little cover in there that we love
to play, which is Slither by Relt Velvet Revolver.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
It's great track.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
And Bella always makes the joke on stage that her
and Leo wanted to play it for so many years,
and then when Arlo joined the band, he was the
man who could shred that it's gonna be pretty fun set,
pretty heavy, some great tunes in there.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Well, I say so from Coast perspective.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Our guest and you might get some new fans the
three guys playing after you.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Thanks Cross. I feel like Aunt and Beffy sound. There's
part and parcels where we really come together. And I
hope the fans, if they love Biffy, they hopefully love
ar stuff too.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
Fingers Cross, we get a good return and reaction from it.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
