Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Radio hodar kis Off the Record podcast with
Greg Treven.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Let's have a chat with Swerve City. Cure to Kevin, Yeah,
really well thanks. How are things with Swerve City? You
guys have been kicking around a few years now.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Eh, yeah, yeah, we got together an end of twenty nineteen,
so we got started just before we all got shut
down with lockdowns and stuff, so that was not really ideal.
But yeah, I've been going for five years or so now.
So this EP that we're just released on Friday, over
Oceans is our debut EP.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Nice. We'll get to the EP in a second, but first,
one of the songs that's on it has called Our Attention.
It's called Avalanche.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yeah, this one, just like most of our songs, I
just start off with one little riff or something and
then it kind of came together just really easily in
the jam room, which was cool.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yeah right, you mentioned the jam room.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Yeah. Our bass player, Shannon is the head of music
at Birkenhead College, so we're lucky enough to be able
to use the jam rooms up there, which is awesome.
We can use all their gear and leave our stuff
set up and stuff like that, which makes life a
bit easier.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
That's amazing because schools are pretty well keuted out these days.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Eh yeah, yeah, they got some good stuff, so that
definitely helps.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Is a little bit of a chain from when you
went to.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
School, well, actually homeschooled, so there was not too much
set up where I was, but I had a drum
kit and I was thrashing away on that and guitars
and stuff. And then yeah, I went to some music
schools when I was younger. It was called Papukuro Music School.
That was just on a Saturday morning. We just had
like group classes learning guitar and stuff. So that's kind
(01:46):
of where I got the basics down and then had
lessons from a more advanced tutor when I was like
in my teens and.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Stuff, And can you still play the drums? I dabble,
but you'll leave that to the drummer.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Yeah, leave that to Adam. He's got that on lock.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yeah, he sure has. Would you like to introduce the
song for us?
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Yep, this is Kid from Swift City and you're listening
to our new track Avalanche on Radio Hurricane.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
That's called whether.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
Staying Farm and stay in Good, Stay Together. I have nine
new shows yours I'm.
Speaker 6 (02:29):

Speaker 4 (02:35):
I hope it's done fair and that's king.
Speaker 6 (02:43):
I'm challenging small thanks as well. I'm I'm charting, Yes,
Captin Snop.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
A promising person. Your picture on the world. I'm closing windows.
Some wind will make it full.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
I'm known what's coming.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Oh that's hope.
Speaker 4 (03:28):

Speaker 5 (04:05):

Speaker 4 (04:07):

Speaker 6 (05:00):

Speaker 2 (05:51):
It's already a hurdy those brain new from Swerve City.
It's called Avalanche, and we're lucky enough to have kid
from the band on a zoom with us. Now Cure
to Kiv, Thanks for bringing us at tune, Thanks for
having me. Sound like you guys are having a pretty
good time on that track.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Oh yeah, that's a fun one to play for sure.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Is that one of the ones you came up with
in the jam room at the high school?
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Then, yep, that came together. I sort of had that
intro lick riff thing and then brought that along and
we kind of just fleshed it all out.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Together and that's on the new EP.
Speaker 6 (06:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
So EP is called Over Oceans. It's got six tracks
on it. It's basically a collection of songs from the
last five years. There's a few that we wrote really
early on and then a couple of newer ones and
so yeah, it's good to just have a place for
all of those songs so we can have them there
and then move on to new stuff.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
And I guess there's always an evolution of bands, and
it sounds like your next venture is going to be
slightly different than what we currently know as Swerve City.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Yeah, so our vocalist, songwriter and also second guitarist Jp
has decided to move on, a big loss for us
because he's a pretty epic songwriter and yeah, so we
will definitely miss him, but it's not the end, so
we're going to keep pushing on and see how things
go from here. At this point, I'm probably gonna try
(07:18):
and take over the lead vocals myself.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Have you done that much of that before?
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Never lead vocals backing vocals currently, So yeah, I got
a bit of work to put in to get up
to scratch for lead vocals, but getting some lessons and
stuff like that, So we'll see how that goes. It
should be fun.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Did JP have any parting words of advice before he
left the room.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
He just said he's looking forward to seeing us smashing
it out on stage in the future.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
So yeah, right. It sounds similar to what we're going
through here at Radiohodaki with our breakfast show. We had
one of our lead vocalists leave and currently looking for
a replacement.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Oh yeah, I did hear about that bit of a
whole hole to fill there as well.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Well maybe if you know, if the lead singer thing
doesn't work out for your keV, maybe the lead vocalist
and a radio station might you might want an audition
for us as well.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Yeah, that'd be a bit of fun. I don't know
about those early mornings though, Yeah, brutal.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
So in the meantime, if someone wants to be a
part of what they just heard of your band, Swerve City,
are you open to people getting in touch.
Speaker 6 (08:27):
Yet?
Speaker 3 (08:28):
Always? Yeah, if anyone's keen, then hit us up for sure.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Not trying to take it away from your ambitions as
being the new lead vocalist here, keV.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Yeah, well, I feel like if you want something done,
sometimes you just got to do it yourself. But if
there's anyone out there that is amazing singer and then
feel free.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
And what's the best way to get in touch with
you guys?
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Instagram is a good one. Just at Swerve City Band.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
And who are you getting lessons from to be the
lead vocalist?
Speaker 3 (08:55):
It's a good question. I haven't actually been to the
first one yet, but you get back to you on that.
I think he worked on X factor or something. That's
what I heard, so it should be good.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's not one of those like online
things where you're talking to someone on the other side
of the planet. You're actually get It's an in person
thing somewhere.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
And yeah, so it would be interesting because yeah, I'm
not too confident with the singing, but just going to
put yourself out there sometimes, so we'll see how it goes.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Yeah. I mean you say that now that you're not
that confident about it, but who knows. When adrenaline kicks
when you walk up to that stage, it might just
all change and you realize it's where you were born
to be. Yeah, well hopefully, well, well the best with that.
keV keV from Swerve City. Thanks for your time on Hidaki.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Yeah, thanks for having.
