Wow, long long time. And now you're involved still though
you have been in rugby league for quite some time,
so you couldn't really exactly explicate yourself from the game.

Goody, No, you know, as we touched on, you know,
I haven't got the tap on the shoulder yet and
I'm loving what I'm doing. I've been involved for you
know almost Yeah, the time that I hung up the
Boots have been involved in some way, shape or form.
So whether that's through the Titans of Olden now with
my current role with the NRL.

This weekend, this is cruel. The Warriors are traveling so well,
so well, in fact, they've got a home game in Brisbane,
that's the way the magic ground works, and they're taking
on the home team with the Broncos. How challenging is
this for the Warriors up front? What do they have
to do?

Yeah?
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Look, for me, it's the biggest thing. I think a
lot of our true blue supporters out there will be thinking, like,
we don't need to change too much where we're a
you know, top four contenders. Were burnt Oale right to
be there, and you know this will be one of
those ones, a tip of the hat to you know,

fully establish us in there because we haven't played every
single team yet and you know, these top four teams
that have had years of experience been at that place.
We get to show them that we're the real deal
for twenty twenty six. So you know, the old cliches,
you know, that four pack layer down and allows our
outside backs and give you know them time, give them

confidence to sort of dictate where and how we want
to play.

What do you think they've excelled at so far this season?
Where have they really stood up? And I think you
look right across the board. I'd twice selate one possession.
But through your eyes, what have you been most impressed
about with this team? Oh?

Look, you can you know you can never go part
the injured room. The boys that lay the platform, but
they provide variety in their So James for sa harrisey
ain't just your smash it up and bash it up.
He's actually he's actually looking to tip on. He's actually
looking for backdoor plays. So he says he's got a
bit of variation to his you know, his job and

his role. And I think that's probably the key thing.
Everybody's doing their role, but they also got that ability
to express themselves in those moments. So it's not about
just life on a back round. I've just got to
run these lines. No, it's about you can give me
the ball early and I can step and ford them
and I can create some space. But I also can

run those lines to and be the robot that I need.

To and you've got that runaway mat truck jackson Ford.
He's just been playing out of his skin and he
shows no sign of stopping. He's just maturities are such
an amazing player. I don't think anyone would to pick
has formed this year from jackson Ford except may be him. No.

Look, I think he's He's always had that caliber of
play within him. I just think, you know, each year
his minutes have gotten longer and longer, and now he's
evolved into establishing themselves into being that that dominant thought.
And I think, you know, jackson has got to be

in the conversation when you when you're picking your new
South Wales team if that's you know something. He's even
had a thought of putting his hand up like it's
never been in a conversation. And this is probably the
biggest year for a lot of our Warriors players to
be included into the conversation. Look, and you've got to
look at Tanner Boyd. That wasn't too long ago that

you know, he was battling away in reserve grade to
be even considered as a contender for a half like
the starting halves. The way he's been playing and established
himself within the within the team.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Hope's listened to this because we don't want State of
Orizon taking any of our players. Look, I know they
want to go and I understand that, but they just
leave us alone over here in the shaky eyes. Clinton,
I'm glad you mentioned Tanner Boy because he's been at
the center of oh I would say controversy, but some debate,
And of course it came to a head this weekend

and Luke Metcalfe has been allowed to negotiate with other teams.
In fact, he's off to Saint George. How muchman interferences
us for a team When you get a guy who's
no longer taking the position he earned last year and
has decided to walk away from the team, does that
affect you, blokes much?

I think it would, Like you know, you only got
to think. Not too long ago, he was on the
mouths of everybody. You know, he was rolling off the
tongue of so many people that were loving his style,
loving that. He grew in confidence and you know he
was able to lift the mantle of you know, life
after SJ and the Holders Ground. He did it so well.

You know, he became a big part of the Warriors
community and everyone fell in love with him and it's
a shame that due to a few setbacks that and
I don't know what's going on there, but for me
it would leave a sour taste.

Dissecting the sporting agenda, it's Sportsfix with Jason Pine and

This weekend's Magic Round is the biggest thing for rugby league,
short of Origin, the Internationals and Grand Final, so on
and so forth. But it's a massive weekend and Brisbane
it's a celebration of rugby league. It's a little sad
that the Warriors have to forfeit a home game to
play in the Magic Round. Not only that they're playing
a team that literally is at home in the Brisbane

Broncos go the NRL. They love treating us with such respect.
But away from that petty and bitter comment, let's look
at the Magic Round itself. It has been extended now
to be in Brisbane un till twenty thirty two. That's wonderful.
It's a destination. It's a wonderful ground, it's got great weather,

it's where people want to go, and the people of
Brisbane and of Queensland love the game of Rugby League
of that, there is no doubt. Of course, I immediately think
of the Super Round, which landed with such effect. It
was celebrated, and of course it was celebrated because it
was being played at a magnificent stadium in christ Jury.

The people came from far and why to celebrate super rugby,
and they should be allowed to carry on celebrating super
rugby for a decent chunk of time. Give them five years,
give them a decent time to create a must go
to event, a bucket list event. If you will, everything

is there, you don't have to share the love. It
doesn't happen over in Australia at the NRL, why should
it happen in Super for rugby. Who's ever in charge
of this shimozzle? Get the stamp, a big rubber one
that says yes to Otitai christ Jurch, stamp it and
let's get on with business. As far as getting the
event hijacked by the Blues and Carl Budge, I appreciate
(11:25):
he's trying the best he can for his franchise and city.
But mate, your dreaming and my dream is to have
an event like the Magic Round on a regular consistent
basis in exactly the same place. Make it happen.

Let's zero in on Warriors v. Broncos. How much of
a distraction if any, this week? Would the Loop Metcalfe
business have been for this team.

They claim that it's not. They'll say it's fine as
business as usual. We absolutely understand. But I don't think
this team, who has been traveling so well can quite
grasp this as simply as we'd like to think they can.
It has been a major interruption for the side. I
really think it has been. And Tanner Boyd is the

player of the future. We know that now he should
be fine, but just the fact that media have been
all over that it's been a bit of a shake up.
Suddenly one of their long term players who promise them
the future and good things is off to Saint George.
He's gone, so it would be upsetting. Maybe the trip
over the Tasman and to go to Magic Round, that's

probably the best thing for them.

Yeah, I totally agree to get away from it. I
mean they do go into the eye the storm though
over here where there will be all sorts of media.
I noted that Andrew Webster spent half of his twenty
minute media conference this week talking about Luke Metcalfe. I
think they're probably quite happy they've tied it up quickly,
that they've given him the release. He's got a new deal.
We know he's going to the Dragons. He's with the

Warriors for the rest of this year. It'll be really
interesting us to see how much of a part Luke
metcalf plays for the Warriors' first grade team for the
rest of this year.

Well, he'll play a part because Tanner Boyd's going to
get pigged for Origin, so they're going to need him
go figure.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Well, that escalated quickly. I mean you have to say, though,
that this is really due to the fact that Tanner Boyd,
who I think when he came in last year for
Luke Metcalf after metcalf was injured. I think Tanner Boyd
did a serviceable enough job last year without being absolutely amazing.
He's been very, very good this year, so much so
that the Warriors have said, well, you stay with us
until twenty twenty nine. And this has been the catalyst

for the whole thing. Hasn't it that if the Warriors
are all in on Tanner Boyd, then Luke metcalf Robbie thinks, well,
if they're all in on him, then where are they
with me?

And therefore he doesn't want to be a part of
a club. And if a player doesn't want to be
part of a club, there's no point in keeping him around.
You let him go. And that is so rugby league.
But Tanner Boyd accelerated and it's not just the odd game.
He is so consistent now high team pretty much as
as well. I'd say it's been having an absolute field day.
And of course that is time that the Titans didn't

get that exposure and now is in fact we like

CEA tonight. This is the second leg of their semi

I know you've talked to a couple of players this week.
Have you got any gauge on how they'll go tonight?

I think it's impossible to say. But if you look
at the trajectory of the team this year and the
way they've behaved in such a mercurial manner, up down,
flat down, up all over the show, I don't think
you can predict what they're going to do. Press is
all on, then they're away and they've got to really
make it work because they didn't get that lead startup.

So how high they pressed, how aggressive they become, We're
only going to find out at the time. But I'll
tell you what. Steve Kirker, I spoke to him a
couple of days ago. He's a pretty relaxed individual around
what's going on here.

biggest year for a lot of our Warriors players to
be included into the conversation. Look, and you've got to
look at Tanner Boyd. That wasn't too long ago that
(07:54):
you know, he was battling away in reserve grade to
be even considered as a contender for a half like
the starting halves. The way he's been playing and established
himself within the within the team.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Hope's listened to this because we don't want State of
Orizon taking any of our players. Look, I know they
want to go and I understand that, but they just
leave us alone over here in the shaky eyes. Clinton,
I'm glad you mentioned Tanner Boy because he's been at
the center of oh I would say controversy, but some debate,
And of course it came to a head this weekend
(08:29):
and Luke Metcalfe has been allowed to negotiate with other teams.
In fact, he's off to Saint George. How muchman interferences
us for a team When you get a guy who's
no longer taking the position he earned last year and
has decided to walk away from the team, does that
affect you, blokes much?
Speaker 4 (08:50):
I think it would, Like you know, you only got
to think. Not too long ago, he was on the
mouths of everybody. You know, he was rolling off the
tongue of so many people that were loving his style,
loving that. He grew in confidence and you know he
was able to lift the mantle of you know, life
after SJ and the Holders Ground. He did it so well.

You know, he became a big part of the Warriors
community and everyone fell in love with him and it's
a shame that due to a few setbacks that and
I don't know what's going on there, but for me
it would leave a sour taste.

Dissecting the sporting agenda, it's Sportsfix with Jason Pine and
Darcy Waldgrave.

This weekend's Magic Round is the biggest thing for rugby league,
short of Origin, the Internationals and Grand Final, so on
and so forth. But it's a massive weekend and Brisbane
it's a celebration of rugby league. It's a little sad
that the Warriors have to forfeit a home game to
play in the Magic Round. Not only that they're playing
a team that literally is at home in the Brisbane

Broncos go the NRL. They love treating us with such respect.
But away from that petty and bitter comment, let's look
at the Magic Round itself. It has been extended now
to be in Brisbane un till twenty thirty two. That's wonderful.
It's a destination. It's a wonderful ground, it's got great weather,

it's where people want to go, and the people of
Brisbane and of Queensland love the game of Rugby League
of that, there is no doubt. Of course, I immediately think
of the Super Round, which landed with such effect. It
was celebrated, and of course it was celebrated because it
was being played at a magnificent stadium in christ Jury.

The people came from far and why to celebrate super rugby,
and they should be allowed to carry on celebrating super
rugby for a decent chunk of time. Give them five years,
give them a decent time to create a must go
to event, a bucket list event. If you will, everything

is there, you don't have to share the love. It
doesn't happen over in Australia at the NRL, why should
it happen in Super for rugby. Who's ever in charge
of this shimozzle? Get the stamp, a big rubber one
that says yes to Otitai christ Jurch, stamp it and
let's get on with business. As far as getting the
event hijacked by the Blues and Carl Budge, I appreciate
(11:25):
he's trying the best he can for his franchise and city.
But mate, your dreaming and my dream is to have
an event like the Magic Round on a regular consistent
basis in exactly the same place. Make it happen.

Let's pop inside the chamber. Let's talk NRL Magic Round.
Let's zero in on Warriors v. Broncos. How much of
a distraction if any, this week? Would the Loop Metcalfe
business have been for this team.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
They claim that it's not. They'll say it's fine as
business as usual. We absolutely understand. But I don't think
this team, who has been traveling so well can quite
grasp this as simply as we'd like to think they can.
It has been a major interruption for the side. I
really think it has been. And Tanner Boyd is the
(12:19):
player of the future. We know that now he should
be fine, but just the fact that media have been
all over that it's been a bit of a shake up.
Suddenly one of their long term players who promise them
the future and good things is off to Saint George.
He's gone, so it would be upsetting. Maybe the trip
over the Tasman and to go to Magic Round, that's
(12:39):
probably the best thing for them.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Yeah, I totally agree to get away from it. I
mean they do go into the eye the storm though
over here where there will be all sorts of media.
I noted that Andrew Webster spent half of his twenty
minute media conference this week talking about Luke Metcalfe. I
think they're probably quite happy they've tied it up quickly,
that they've given him the release. He's got a new deal.
We know he's going to the Dragons. He's with the
(13:02):
Warriors for the rest of this year. It'll be really
interesting us to see how much of a part Luke
metcalf plays for the Warriors' first grade team for the
rest of this year.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
Well, he'll play a part because Tanner Boyd's going to
get pigged for Origin, so they're going to need him
go figure.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Well, that escalated quickly. I mean you have to say, though,
that this is really due to the fact that Tanner Boyd,
who I think when he came in last year for
Luke Metcalf after metcalf was injured. I think Tanner Boyd
did a serviceable enough job last year without being absolutely amazing.
He's been very, very good this year, so much so
that the Warriors have said, well, you stay with us
until twenty twenty nine. And this has been the catalyst
(13:44):
for the whole thing. Hasn't it that if the Warriors
are all in on Tanner Boyd, then Luke metcalf Robbie thinks, well,
if they're all in on him, then where are they
with me?
Speaker 3 (13:52):
And therefore he doesn't want to be a part of
a club. And if a player doesn't want to be
part of a club, there's no point in keeping him around.
You let him go. And that is so rugby league.
But Tanner Boyd accelerated and it's not just the odd game.
He is so consistent now high team pretty much as
as well. I'd say it's been having an absolute field day.
And of course that is time that the Titans didn't

get that exposure and now is in fact we like
picking up x Titans. Domie, how's Loffey carm Pereira another
Titan who's just like playing the house down?
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Yeah? I love that guy. Aaron Clark another one. Yeah, yeah,
Well they come from the Titans and they become better
players at the Warriors. I don't mind that little friend. Hey,
just while we're in the chain, but can we talk
a little bit of football. Auckland f cea tonight against
Adelaide United and then the Wellington Phoenix women tomorrow when
the Grand Final against Melbourne City just on Auckland f
CEA tonight. This is the second leg of their semi

all square after the first leg. What are you thinking?
I know you've talked to a couple of players this week.
Have you got any gauge on how they'll go tonight?
Speaker 3 (14:53):
I think it's impossible to say. But if you look
at the trajectory of the team this year and the
way they've behaved in such a mercurial manner, up down,
flat down, up all over the show, I don't think
you can predict what they're going to do. Press is
all on, then they're away and they've got to really
make it work because they didn't get that lead startup.
(15:15):
So how high they pressed, how aggressive they become, We're
only going to find out at the time. But I'll
tell you what. Steve Kirker, I spoke to him a
couple of days ago. He's a pretty relaxed individual around
what's going on here.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Yeah, we's been there before, hasn't He as a Sydney
of C player and a Sydney of C coach, so
this isn't new to him. He's used to finals football.
But yeah, it'll be fascinating tonight to see how they go.
Just a word on the Wellington Phoenix Women tomorrow, ge
I can't wait for this. An historical day in New
Zealand football. Really, no A League team mental women have
ever made a Grand Final. Wellington Phoenix Women will play

against Melbourne City tomorrow. I just wish the very best
for Beef Priestman and this team. You know, they've they've
achieved already, you know, well beyond what a lot of
people thought that they might this season. So I would
just love to see them lift that trophy tomorrow afternoon,
come evening.

And all I can think of I'm thinking of the players, plainly,
I'm thinking of the club. I'm thinking of the A League.
But really I'm thinking David Dome is a guy who's
gone through so much since it all started, and he'll
be smiling at the Cheshire Cat right now. Finally it's
all falling into place, and yeah, let's hope that final
works out. But you've got to give respect to Domie

and what he's done for that club and how hard
he's worked for them.
